Dear Mike,
We celebrated Thanksgiving Day a few days ago, which reminds me of my English teacher Linda. She is about 35 years old and comes from the north. She came to work in Shenzhen after graduating from university. She gets along well with her classmates and is very kind and patient. She is strict with us in our studies and always encourages us to ask questions and think independently. She also helps us improve our English skills. That’s all about Linda. Please write to me and tell me something about your teachers.
Yours,

It was a hot summer day and I bad just pulled into the gas station to fill up my car. After filling it up, I started to walk inside to pay. That is when I noticed them. Two elderly women were standing back from their car. There was shock and fear on their faces. I looked and saw what they saw, five yellow jackets (小黄蜂) building a nest around their gas cap. I suddenly felt scared. I shared the ladies’ fear.
Yellow jackets have never been friends of mine. Several times these wasps (黄蜂) have attacked me while I was cutting the grass, stinging (蛰) me each time I ran over their nests. The worst time, however, was when I was a young boy. A friend of mine and I were playing in my backyard. I must have stepped on one of their nests again because before I knew it, both of us were being chased and stung by the yellow jackets while we ran away screaming. I ran to my mom with tears in my eyes. She ran a cold bath and put us both in it to ease (减轻) the pain before giving us medicine to help us feel better.
Still, I knew I couldn’t let fear stop me now. I reached into my pocket for a paper towel I had there, tore out the nest and stepped on it while the wasps buzzed around me. Both of the ladies thanked me for what I did.
You can’t let the fear of being stung-either physically or emotionally—keep you from doing what is right. We need to love each other and change the world for the better. And the only way you can do this is through helpful acts and kindness. Don’t let the yellow jackets in your life hold you back.

A. animals are harmful to human beings B. elderly people always need our help

1. Better way for us to fly
NASA developed a plane that makes flying more environmentally friendly. The X-Plane is an experimental all-electric aircraft. Instead of fuel-powered engines, the X-Plane gets its power from batteries. The aircraft is also quieter than fuel-powered planes, as its electric components (部件) change the way it sounds. It has 14 electric motors and propellers (螺旋桨), allowing it to fly more efficiently (高效地). It began to be tested in 2020.
2. Can potted plants help?
It was long thought that keeping potted plants in your home can make the air fresher. New research says that this is not true. US researcher Michael Waring reviewed a NASA study that said that potted plants could remove pollution from the air. However, the NASA experiment was done in a sealed chamber (密封室), which is different from a typical home. Keeping a couple of windows open is a better way to keep the air fresh in your home.
3. New way to fight germs
Researchers in Hong Kong have found a way to stop superbugs, which are bacteria (细菌) that are highly resistant (有抵抗力的) to most medicine. The researchers have created a new class of antibiotics (抗生素). These antibiotics work by stopping two proteins (蛋白质) that bacteria use to grow. Older antibiotics don’t work as well as they used to because bacteria have learned how to resist them.

A. It’s powered by electricity.
B Electric components make it quieter.

When you go to the park, you might notice many older people listening to audiobooks (有声书) instead of reading paper books. 26 Why are more and more people choosing audiobooks over traditional books? Is listening to an audiobook. just as beneficial (有益的) as reading a book?
Reading needs us to focus all our attention on the words in a book, and we also need to find time and a place to sit down and read. 27 Besides, it gives your eyes a break, too.
But the big question is, do we get knowledge from audiobooks as effectively (有效地) as we do from paper books? 28 In a study published in the Journal of Neuroscience, researchers scanned (扫描) people’s brains when they listened to and read books. 29
However, some people still believe that they learn better from reading paper books. One reason might be that when we listen to audiobooks, we are often doing many things at the same time. “ 30 . Daniel Willingham, a professor of psychology at the University of Virginia, told The New York Times.
