Surrounded(围绕) by trees and filled with ponds(池塘) and pools of water, the Chinese village of Ding Wuling should be covered with mosquitoes(蚊子), especially during the sum- mer time. However, it is reported that mosquitoes haven't been seen here for almost a century.
The village with a long history is in the mountains of China's Fujian Province. There are many special stone houses. But in recent years, the culture and buildings of this village have been overshadowed(使失色) by a mystery— the absence(缺乏) of mosquitoes.
It's unclear whether scientists ever made a survey to get to know this mystery. But most of the people in Ding Wuling believe it has something to do with the toad- shaped(蟾蜍形状的) stone. They believe that the“ god toad” prevents the mosquitoes from entering the village.
Another popular explanation(解释) has to do with the local villagers’ habit of collecting rubbish and burying(埋) it on the hillside near the village. When Chinese newspaper People's Daily first reported the mystery of this mosquito- free village , the local villagers hoped that experts(专家) could soon offer a certain answer to the mystery and put Ding Wuling on the tour- ist map.
Unluckily, I haven't been able to find newer information about Ding Wuling and its mosquito mystery, so it's possible that the whole thing was made up to help develop tourism in the area. Then again, there might be something special about that toad- shaped stone. Who knows?

B. suggest that the media(媒体) made up the whole story
C. further show the locals’ hope for scientific explanation
D. give people a way to show their own opinions
46. Why did the writer write the passage?
A. To tell us the good habits of people in Ding Wuling.
B. To tell us something about the mystery of the mosquito- free village.
C. To suggest a good place to travel.
D. To explain people's findings in Ding Wuling.
D
Scientists in Switzerland said that new devices(设备) helped a 40- year- old man walk a- gain, 12 years after an accident left him paralyzed ( unable to move parts of the body). It is the first technology of this kind to be successfully used in humans. The technology could also help people with the same problem get control over their bodies again.
Gert- Jan Oskam was in an accident in 2012 that harmed his spinal cord(脊髓). The spinal cord connects the brain to the rest of the body, allowing messages to be sent. When the spinal cord is hurt, signals(信号) from the brain can’t get through to certain body parts. For Oskam, they were his legs.
Reserchers put devices in Oskam's skull(头骨) and spine. They acted as a“ bridge”, allowing information to travel from his brain to the rest of his body without passing through the wounded part of the spinal cord.
After lots of training, Oskam can now walk a short distance(距离) with a cane(手杖) —— even when the devices are off. This might mean that Oskam's spinal cord seems to be making new connections.
The“ bridge” solution(解决方案) isn’t perfect. It costs and needs difficult operations(手术) and lots of training. But the scientists are hopeful that in the future, this technology will allow many paralyzed people to walk again.
47. What happened to Gert- Jan Oskam in 2012?
A. He got control over his body again.
B. He lost his legs in an aceident.
C. He got help from scientists from Switzerland.
D. He was badly hurt in an accident and couldn't walk.
48. Where did the scientists put the devices?
A. In Oskam's arms. B. In Oskam's skull and spine.
C. In Oskam's heart. D. In Oskam's knees and spine.
49. What are the problems with the technology?
①It costs a lot of money. ②It is not easy to implant(植入) it.
③It needs a fot of training. ④It shortens(减少) people's lives.
A.①②③ B.①③④ C.①②④ D.②③④
50. What's the main idea of this passage?
A. Gert- Jan Oskam is an unlucky man.
B. Technology makes people's life colorful.
C. The dlifficult life of paralyzed people.
