Every day, from early in the morning until late in the evening, under the hot sun, the slaves picked cotton and put it in their sack. When finishing, Legree weighed it, and there was whipping(抽打)for the slaves that didn't pick enough cotton. Tom learned to pick cotton quickly.
One day a new beautiful woman, Cassy, arrived to pick cotton. Tom noticed that she was very fast, and he also noticed that an older slave, Martha, was in pain. She was slow, and her sack was almost empty.Tom went near Martha, and silently put a lot of his cotton into her sack.
"No,don't!” said the new woman.“They will punish you."
Just then Sambo arrived.
"What's happening?" he said, and he kicked Martha and whipped Tom across his face.
"Work faster, you animal!" But when he left, Tom quickly gave her some more of his cotton.
Suddenly, the new woman put much cotton in Tom's sack.
“Tom is going to make much trouble. He kept putting cotton into Martha's sack," Sambo told Legree.
"Then we'll have to teach him a lesson,"said Legree.
Slowly the tired slaves came into the room for the weighing of the sacks. First Legree weighed Tom's sack, and it was enough. Martha's sack was next. The weight was enough, but Legree shouted at her.
“You lazy animal! This is not enough! Stay here and wait." He finished weighing all the other sacks, and then turned to Tom.
"Come here," said Legree. "I want to give you a better job than picking cotton, and you can start tonight: take this woman and whip her-you know how."
"I'm sorry, Master," said Tom. “I can't do it.”
Legree whipped Tom across his face and then hit him with his fists many times.
"There!”he said. "Now will you tell me you can't do it?”
"Yes, Master," said Tom, with blood running down his face. "I will work night and day, but I will never whip another person.”
"I bought you, and you're mine, body and soul," Legree said, kicking Tom.

Over the past two years, micro-dramas on online platforms have experienced a rapid growth in the Chinese market. What is a micro-drama? It often lasts only a few minutes, some even less than 60 seconds for each episode.
It is typically played on mini-programs or social platforms. For example, micro-dramas like Unrivaled went beyond ¥100 million in eight days, while Night Shift Diary got more than one billion views. Please,Don't Spoil Me played on Tencent Video, went beyond ¥30 million, and the three-episode scrips Escape from the British Museum trended on Weibo for a long time.
Nowadays, micro-dramas are a new global fashion, and several Chinese micro-drama platforms developed abroad. Reelshort is one of the most popular apps of them. Some people believe that micro-dramas are wonderful with many advantages. They have mixed some elements of online literature and live streamed short videos in a small structure. The micro-dramas allow audiences to enjoy the episodes without wasting much energy and time. They are easy to get, which leads to their widespread acceptance, from public transportation to lifts. However, other people disagree. In their opinion.micro-dramas may have some harmful influences. To get higher clicks and viewership, the content may be about violence(暴力)and other unhealthy stories.
Anyway, the future of micro-dramas is worth looking forward to if micro-drama makers improve their content and search for better IPs. More importantly, micro-dramas' future lies in their mainstream and high-quality transformation, which is also the key to their continuous growth. I had to make a safe place to live. I could not stay where I was because there was no fresh water there.I found a good piece of flat ground up a hill, with a cliff on one side and a good view of the sea. I put up my tent near the cliff. I cut some wood and made a strong fence around the area. The fence did not have a gate or door. I used a ladder to get over it to reach my tent and then pulled the ladder inside the fence.Nobody else could come in. I was safe. I brought all my things inside the fence. It took a long time to do this, sometimes in heavy rain.
I made a kind of cave in the cliff behind me and I put a lot of things there to keep them dry. During one storm, I was afraid that lightning would hit my gunpowder, and I would lose it all. After the storm,I divided the gunpowder into small piles and put them in different places. Every day, I went out with my gun to shoot something that I could cook and eat. I found that there were goats on the island, and I soon shot one.
Every day, I made a mark on a piece of wood with an axe. This way,I knew how long I had been on the island. I had some paper and ink from the ship, and I made notes about my new life. It was a terrible, lonely life, but at least I was alive. And I had saved many useful things from the ship, which would help to keep me alive.
I found a tree that had very hard wood to make a spade so that I could dig. This helped me to make my cave bigger.
I made a table and a chair. They were very difficult to make and took a long time. However, I did not worry about time because I had nothing else to do except to feed myself and stay alive. Sometimes, I climbed up the hill to see if there might be a ship, but I never saw one. I also continued to write my diaries until I had no more ink.
I was busy for months. I made my fence stronger. I shot birds and goats. I saved one goat, and it became a pet. I had thrown some old pieces of corn on the ground beside a rock, and I was surprised some time later to see it grow. I could not understand this at first because I had forgotten about the corn I had thrown there. There was also some rice. When it grew up, I saved the seed and planted it again. Still, in my first year, I decided to not eat the crops. I planned to save them until I had enough seed and crops. This would not be until my fourth year on the island.

Moreover, I have few close friends to share my worries with. I'm glad to find you are good at listening and comforting. So would you please be online at 7:00 pm on Friday? I need your help.Maybe you can listen to my problems and I think I'd also like to read some of your writings if possible.
I am looking forward to your early reply.
