During my first year of learning Chinese, I found that my high school had a sister-school-exchange program (项目) in Nanjing, China. Every summer, some students can study there and stay with host families for two and a half weeks. When I first heard about the chance to go to China, I knew I couldn’t miss it out. Fast forward to a summer, I waved bye to my family and flew to Beijing. In the first morning in China, I experienced a Chinese breakfast unlike anything I had ever tried. We spent three days in Beijing, going around the city and visiting famous landmarks. The highlight of our trip was the Great Wall. Seeing it in person for the first time was amazing even though I had seen hundreds of videos and pictures before. After our three days in Beijing, we took a bullet train to Nanjing, where we would stay with our host families and attend classes given by our sister school. Although my host family did not speak English, they were super welcoming, which made me feel at home. On weekdays, we attended different classes at our sister school, including cooking, music, Kung Fu, custom (习俗), art, etc. I learned a lot about Chinese culture and how different it is from the American lifestyle. Although the study has been over, I am forever thankful to my high school for giving me the opportunity to exchange in China and to immerse (沉浸) myself in its culture and meet amazing friends who I still keep in touch with to this day. I hope that one day I will have the chance to return to China and perhaps even live there at some point in my life! 1.How many days may the exchange program last? A.24 days. B.18 days. C.14 days. For me, fall is the most beautiful time of the year in China. Its cooler temperatures make it more comfortable to be outdoors. When I look up into the sky now, an amazing experience I had last fall in the United States enters my mind. Last year, I had a chance to study in the US as an exchange (交换) student. One day in October, all of the students in class got to go on a two-day camping trip in New York. At first, I was uncomfortable with the idea of sleeping in a house in the wilderness (荒地) and being surrounded by people I wasn’t familiar (熟悉) with. However, it turned out to be one of the best trips I have ever taken. On the bus, I sat next to a US boy I had met only once or twice before. As soon as the bus set off, we started chatting. The conversation lasted about an hour and I learned that we shared a common interest in sports, It seemed that I could learn a lot from attending (参加) the camping trip. After arriving at the camp, it was completely dark outside, yet no one could wait to go out into the woods to enjoy a bonfire. While sitting by the fire, we all started talking with each other. It was nice to see local students and exchange students chatting together - it seemed that the bonfire was strengthening (加强) friendship between us. The second day came quickly. We went hiking in the morning, and I enjoyed the feeling of being in the wilderness. It was hard to say goodbye to this place. We went back to school too soon, but I made friends with a few US students on this trip. The bonfire may have gone out, but our friendships are still burning strong. 1.At first, Emma felt sleeping in a house in the wilderness was________. B.There was still light when they went into the woods. C.Local students were afraid to chat with exchange students. D.Students started talking to each other while sitting by the fire. 3.What can we learn from the passage? A.A camping trip is the best outdoor activity in fall. B.Everyone likes going camping with their classmates. C.Students should hold every chance to exchange in the US. D.Attending outdoor activities helps strengthen friendship with others. For the past two months, I have been living in Southampton, England, as an exchange student. I arrived in Southampton on July 13. It felt unreal to think about living in a new country and in a new family for one year. On my first day, my host mum Tracy showed me around the neighborhood, and we drove down to the sea. The weather was great, and everything looked beautiful. My school started the week after. I had chosen my subjects before. I had to do English and Math, and I chose History, Geography and Film Studies. The Itchen Sixth Form College is a big school with about 2,000 students who are between the ages of 16 and 19. My school day starts at 8:40 and ends at 15:30. During the week, I don’t do that much with my free time. Sometimes, I stay in school a little longer to talk with my friends, and then I go home and do my homework. Due to COVID-19, students take only two classes per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. In this way, we don’t have to change rooms very often and won’t need to walk too close to one another in the narrow hallways. All the teachers are really nice and supportive. The school used to organize trips to London or Winchester for its exchange students. However, because of COVID-19, everything is canceled right now. That’s why we have planned some day trips ourselves! A few weeks ago, I went with some of my friends to Portsmouth, a seaside city about an hour’s drive from Southampton. We visited the Spinnaker Tower and saw the city from above. The view was magnificent. So, this has been my first two months in England. I hope you enjoyed reading my first entry. I am looking forward to telling you about all of the experiences I have over the coming months. 1.This article has probably been taken from ________. Over the years, I had become more and more interested in Chinese culture. When there was a chance to study in Beijing as an exchange student, I took it at once. In my first twenty-four hours in Beijing, I felt both excited and nervous. I didn’t see one foreigner. But on my first day of school, I was greeted by many foreign faces. The students came from all around the world. I would be in a class with Chelsea from Norway and Charlie from my motherland—the UK. None of us had studied Chinese before, but our language skills improved quickly. By the end of the first month, we could all make simple sentences. Some of these sentences, though, were quite funny. We often sent our language teacher Sophie into wild laughter. The first month was very tiring. There were so many new things to become familiar(熟悉)with. Thankfully, our school organized many student events. We talked a lot about cultural differences and our future plans. It was a great opportunity for us to practise speaking Chinese. In October, David finally had time to show me around the city. Both of us were very excited to see each other. David took me to some of his favourite restaurants. Chinese table manners are very different from those in the West. Eating Chinese food was like an adventure(冒险), and it became my favourite part about living in Beijing. My six-month stay in China was really enjoyable. It has made me look forward to visiting China again to look for more adventures. 1.Why did the writer come to China? A.To live all his life in China. John Smith is an exchange student from New York. Here is a letter to his friend in his hometown. Dear David, How time flies! It’s been 3 months since I came to China. I’m having fun on my student exchange program here. I am used to life here and have known a lot about traditional Chinese culture. I will share some with you. In China, there are many different kinds of traditional art forms, such as paper cutting, Chinese clay art, kite making and so on. Among them, the kite interests me most. The first ancient Chinese kite appeared more than 2,000 years ago. Then flying kites spread to Japan, Korea and Malaysia during the Tang Dynasty and the Song Dynasty. Kites are regarded as the earliest craft(飞行器). They played an important role in the process of inventing the plane. Tea culture is important in China. Tea was discovered as a kind of drink by accident about 5,000 years ago. It is believed that tea was brought to Korea and Japan during the 6th and 7th centuries. It didn’t appear in England until around 1,660. The tea trade from China to Western countries took place in the 19th century. Now tea has become one of the most popular drinks around the world. Lastly, I’d like to tell you something about the Mid-Autumn Festival. Chinese people have been celebrating it and enjoying moon cakes for centuries. If you’d like to know more about traditional Chinese culture, I will talk about it in the next letter. Best wishes! Yours, John 1.From this passage, we know that John Smith is from ________. Students at Whitewater Middle School in the US once looked at 200 pounds (90.7 kg) of food, including pizzas and salads, which had been thrown away after just one of their school’s daily meals. To deal with this problem, Whitewater has added environmental science as a new school program this year. Teachers will lead students to do research on the ways in which food is related to (有关) the environment, poverty (贫穷), and people’s health. Whitewater teachers make sure students know how their own eating habits are part of bigger problems. In environmental literature (文学) class, students read books such as Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American-Meal. Teacher Mollie Lyman works with several language arts classes. These classes discuss topics like how poor neighborhoods often have less access to (有更少的机会接触) healthy food. Lyman says she wants students to ask themselves some basic questions: “What do we eat? My name is Naomi. I am 16 years old. B.To study as an exchange student. C.To see his penfriend David Lu. D.To spend his summer holiday. 2.Which of the following statements is true? A.David invited the writer to dinner on the first day. B.David showed the writer around on the first day. C.The writer and Charlie were from the same country. D.The writer and David studied in the same class. 3.According to Paragraph 2, why did Sophie often laugh wildly? A.Because some of the students’ sentences were funny. B.Because some of the students learnt Chinese very well. C.Because some of the students send Sophie nice gifts. D.Because some of the students’ language skills were poor. 4.What can we infer from the passage? A.It was boring for the writer to stay in Beijing. B.The writer did not like to eat Chinese food at all. C.The writer was familiar with Chinese table manners. D.Eating Chinese food often gave the writer surprises. 【答案】1.B 2.C 3.A 4.D 【导语】本文主要讲述了作者在十岁时与北京的David Lu成为笔友,并对中国文化产生了浓厚的兴趣,后来作为交换生来到北京学习的经历。 1. 细节理解题。根据“When there was a chance to study in Beijing as an exchange student”(当有机会作为交换生在北京学习),可知作者来北京是作为交换生学习。故选B。 2.细节理解题。根据“I would be in a class with Chelsea from Norway and Charlie from my motherland—the UK.”可知作者和Charlie在一个班,并且两人都来自英国,故选C。 3.细节理解题。根据“Some of these sentences, though, were quite funny. A.David came to China three months ago. B.Tea didn’t appear in England until around the 16th century. C.Kites played an important role in the process of inventing the plane. D.John isn’t used to life in China. 5.John wrote this letter to David in order to ________. A.share something about traditional Chinese culture with him B.tell him the tea trade from Western countries to China took place in the 19th century C.tell him the Mid-Autumn Festival is in August every year D.make a travelling plan to China with their classmates 【答案】1.B 2.C 3.C 4.C 5.A 【导语】这是一封约翰写给他家乡朋友大卫的信。信中提到了中国的传统艺术形式剪纸、中国粘土艺术等,风筝最吸引约翰,信中还介绍了中国的茶文化和中秋节。 1.细节理解题。根据“John Smith is an exchange student from New York”可知,约翰·史密斯来自美国的纽约。故选B。 2.推理判断题。根据“Lastly, I’d like to tell you something about the Mid-Autumn Festival.”可知,中秋节是中国的节日,不是艺术形式。故选C。 3.细节理解题。根据“Tea was discovered as a kind of drink by accident about 5,000 years ago”可知,茶叶是在大约5000年前被偶然发现的一种饮料。故选C。 4.推理判断题。根据“They played an important role in the process of inventing the plane.”可知,风筝在发明飞机的过程中发挥了重要作用,故选项C正确。故选C。 5.主旨大意题。根据“I am used to life here and have known a lot about traditional Chinese culture. What do we waste?” 1.What is the news about? A.How to cook meals for students. B.Delicious fast-food in the US. C.Environmental science in school. D.Students say no to food waste. 2.What does the name of the section mean? A.Things in foreign countries. B.Look out of the window. C.Students from English school. D.Life of exchange students. 3.We can guess the book is probably about ________. A.healthy food recipe B.people’s eating habits C.the best cooks in the world D.the ways to save food 【答案】1.D 2.A 3.B 【导语】本文主要讲述了美国一所学校面对食物浪费问题展开的一系列措施。 1.主旨大意题。根据第一段“Food waste is common in many schools.”,第二段“To deal with this problem, Whitewater has added environmental science as a new school program this year.”和最后一段“Lyman says she wants students to ask themselves some basic questions: ‘What do we eat? What do we waste?’”可知,这篇新闻主要是关于学生对食物浪费说不。故选D。 2.词义猜测题。根据最后一段“These classes discuss topics like how poor neighborhoods often have less access to (有更少的机会接触) healthy food.”可知,这些课程讨论的主题包括贫困地区如何经常得不到健康食品。结合标题“A LOOK OUTSIDE”可知,该部分的名称意为让学生们看看外国发生的那些常常得不到健康食品的事情。故选A。 3.推理判断题。根据第三段“Whitewater teachers make sure students know how their own eating habits are part of bigger problems. In environmental literature (文学) class, students read books such as Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American-Meal.”可知,教师确保学生知道他们自己的饮食习惯是更大问题的一部分。在环境文学课上,学生们阅读诸如《快餐国家:全美国饮食的黑暗面》之类的书籍。由此推知,这本书大概是关于人们的饮食习惯。故选B。 2 同步新教材,周周有练习,月月有重点! 7 同步新教材,周周有练习,月月有重点! 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
