At Countryside High School in Clearwater, Fia., 16-year-old Sage Waite is already taking a class in cyber security, and she’d welcome one that’s in the works on cyber disinformation.
“For the longest time, I didn’t actually know what disinformation was,” said Waite, who’s in the 11th grade. “There was always the idea that things could be wrong in what you’ re hearing and what you’re being told. But the idea of misinformation and disinformation wasn’t in my day-to-day.” This past year, she says, has been an eye-opener. “My friends and I definitely started looking into stuff more and doing more research after that,” she said.
A new program on “digital literacy”, with a focus on topics like disinformation, is in the pipeline, thanks in part to Mike McConnell, who is now working to fight false information aimed at young people. “We need to understand this so we can appreciate what’s happening to us, and be able to not only understand it, but also to navigate through it,” McConnell said. “That’s what I call digital literacy.”
McConnell is executive director of Cyber Florida, which is based at the University of South Florida in Tampa. The group works with kids throughout the state at universities, high schools, and even those in younger grades. Cyber Florida helped set up the cyber security program now being taught at many Florida schools. The new project, Cyber Citizenship, is even more ambitious. “We think if we can do this for Florida, we can spread it across the nation,” he said.
The expanded program now in the works aims to make digital literacy something all Florida students get, at several grade levels, before they finish high school.
There’s no date yet for the cyber disinformation classes in Florida, but computer teacher Jason Felt says it can’t come soon enough and he is ready to embrace it.
“The Internet is a wonderful tool. It’s connected us in a way that’s never really been seen before. But it’s a blessing and it’s also a curse.”
Teaching students the difference, he says, is a huge challenge.
41.The past year has been an eye—opener for Sage Waite, because of____________.
A.A recent class she took on cyber security.
B.Her further studies and researches on cyber disinformation
C.Her personal experience with misinformation
D.An introduction of a new digital literacy program
42.According to Mike McConnell, what is essential for young people in relation to digital literacy?
A.To avoid using the Internet altogether B.To understand and deal with information
C.To focus on traditional literacy skills D.To become proficient in cyber security
43.What is the main goal of the Cyber Citizenship project mentioned in the article?
A.To create a national cyber security curriculum
B.To ensure all Florida students receive digital literacy education
C.To reduce the amount of misinformation on social media
D.To teach students how to code and program
44.How does Jason Felt view the Internet, according to the article?
A.As a purely negative influence on society
B.As a tool that only brings challenges to education
C.As a double-edged sword with both benefits and drawbacks
D.As a necessary evil that should be ignored
45.What aspect of the new digital literacy program is highlighted in the article?
A.It will be compulsory for all high school students.
B.It will focus exclusively on cyber security.
C.It will reach students at multiple grade levels.

C
When you meet someone for the first time, you will form an impression in your mind of that person in the first moment. Your reactions to other people, however, are really just barometers (晴雨表) for how you perceive (理解) yourself. Your reactions to others say more about you than they do about others. You cannot really love or hate something about another unless it reflects something you love or hate yourself. We are usually drawn to those who are most like us and tend to dislike those who display those aspects of ourselves that we dislike.
Therefore, you can allow others to be the mirror to illuminate (阐明;照亮) more clearly your own feelings of self- worth. On the contrary, you can view the people you judge negatively as mirrors to show you what you are not accepting about yourself.
To survive together peacefully with others, you will need to learn tolerance. A big challenge is to shift your view from judgment of others to a lifelong exploration of yourself. Your task is to evaluate all the decisions, judgments you make onto others and to begin to view them as clues to how you can cure yourself and become whole.
Several days ago, I had a business lunch with a man who displayed objectionable table manners. My first reaction was to judge him as rude and his table manners as annoying. When I noticed that I was judging him, I stopped and asked myself what I was feeling. I discovered that I was embarrassed to be seen with someone who was chewing with his mouth open and loudly blowing his nose. I was astonished to find how much I cared about how the other people in the restaurant perceived me.
Remember that your judgment of someone will not serve as a protection against you becoming like him. Just because I judge my lunch partner as rude does not prevent me from ever looking or acting like him. In the same way, extending tolerance to him would not cause me to suddenly begin chewing my food with my mouth open.
When you approach life in this manner, those with whom you have the greatest dissatisfactions as well as those you admire and love can be seen as mirrors, guiding you to discover parts of yourself that you reject and to hug your greatest quality.
46.The purpose of the author writing this passage is to advise people to _________.
A.Learn tolerance towards others. B.Avoid inappropriate manners.
C.Pay attention to others’ needs and feelings. D.Judge others favorably in any case.
47.The underlined word “objectionable” in Paragraph 4 has the closest meaning to _________.
A.discouraging B.disappointing C.distinguishing D.unpleasant
48.According to the passage, the following statements are all true except _________.
A.Our first judgment of a person mostly comes from our personal opinion.
B.We are easily attracted by someone who is similar to us.
C.You can’t really love or hate others if they are similar to you.
D.The moment we see a stranger, our mind forms an impression of that person.
49.Throughout the entire story, the last paragraph serves as a (n) _________.
A.conclusion B.example C.background D.explanation
50.It can be implied from the text that _________.
A.the writer’s first reaction to the man was to judge him impolite
B.we shouldn’t focus on judging others but should constantly reflect on our own
C.we will need to learn tolerance to exist together with others
D.the writer didn’t care about other people’s view of him.
D
There are various developments throughout the world. Among them, sustainable development is put great emphasis on. At present, sustainable development is applied to just about everything from energy to clean water and economic growth, and as a result it has become difficult to question either the basic assumptions behind it or the way the concept is put to use. This is especially true in agriculture, where sustainable development is often taken as the only measure of progress without a proper appreciation of historical and cultural perspectives.
To start with, it is important to remember that the nature of agriculture has changed significantly throughout history, and will continue to do so. Medieval agriculture in northern Europe fed, clothed and sheltered a primarily rural society with a much lower population density than it is today. It had minimal effect on biodiversity, and any pollution it caused was typically localized. In terms of energy use and the nutrients captured in the product, it was relatively inefficient.
Contrast this with farming since the start of the industrial revolution, competition from overseas led farmers to specialize and increase yields. Throughout this period food became cheaper, safe and more reliable. However, these changes have also led to habitat loss and to diminishing biodiversity.
What’s more, demand for animal products in developing countries is growing so fast that meeting it will require an extra 300 million tons of grain a year by 2050, yet the growth of cities and industry is reducing the amount of water available for agriculture in many regions.
All this means that agriculture in the 21st century will have to be very different from how it was in the 20th. This will require people change the ways of thinking thoroughly, for example, we need to move away from the idea that traditional practices are inevitably more unavoidably more sustainable than new ones. We also need to abandon the notion that agriculture can be “zero impact”. The key will be to abandon the rather simple and static (静态的) measures of sustainability, which center on the need to maintain production without increasing damage. Instead we need a more dynamic interpretation, one that looks at the pros and cons of all the various way land is used.
There are many different ways to measure agricultural performance besides food yield: energy use, environmental costs, water purity, carbon footprint and biodiversity. It is clear, for example, that the carbon of transporting tomatoes from Spain to the UK is less than that of producing them in the UK with additional heating and lighting but we don’t know whether lower carbon footprints will always be better for biodiversity. What is crucial is recognizing that sustainable agriculture is not just about sustainable food production.
51.How do people often measure progress in agriculture?
A.By its productivity.
B.By its sustainability.
C.By its impact on the environment.
D.By its contribution to economic growth.
52.What does the author think of medieval farming practices?
A.They aren’t necessarily sustainable.
B.They are environmentally friendly.
C.They have remained the same over the centuries.
D.They have not kept pace with population growth.
53.What have specialization and the effort to increase yields resulted in?
A.The shrinking of farmland. B.Competition from overseas.
C.Localized pollution. D.The decrease of biodiversity.
54.What will agriculture be like in the 21st century?
A.It will supply more animal products.
B.It will go through immense changes.
C.It will abandon traditional farming practices.
D.It will cause zero damage to the environment.
55.What is the author’s purpose in writing this passage?
A.To remind people of the need of sustainable development.
B.To urge people to rethink what sustainable agriculture is.
C.To advertise new criteria for measuring farming progress.
D.To suggest ways of ensuring sustainable food production.
They say to find out what you really want, go back to when you were a child.
When I was a kid, I really wanted to be a painter, but I was never great at it. I was discouraged, because in art classes my paintings were never the most beautiful. In the third grade, we were given a project to create a portrait. I used the skills and tips we were all taught in class. After we were done, we presented our portraits. We stood in front of the class and explained our technique. I remember looking at other portraits thinking, “We were given the same skills, why do theirs look so professional and mine looks so amateur?”
But I still really enjoyed painting because it’s a forgiving art. If I don’t like what I’ve put on paper, I can paint over it. I can mix colors and make new ones. Also, I can release some creative juices, use what has inspired me and allow that to pour out of me in a way I may not have imagined.
But because I have always wanted to paint beautiful pictures, I just decided to change what beauty looked like. I changed what beauty meant to me.
Throughout school, they taught us about Picasso, Van Gogh and Leonardo da Vinci who were always painting whatever was in front of them and around them. But that’s not what I saw around me.
Then I learned about Basquiat, who inspired me to paint abstract pictures. I paint when I’m moved, and I am often moved by what’s natural: emotions, nature, and other forms of art. I am also very moved by pain. When there is pain in the world or in my heart, it can be unbearable. I had a conversation with an activist in St. Louis named Spook, and I explained to her this feeling and she told me, “Pain is energy. You have to learn how to channel that energy into something productive.” So sometimes I channel that pain into art, into a painting.
Even if the picture doesn’t turn out aesthetically (美学地) pleasing by society’s standards, it’s still beautiful that I was able to create something. My paintings may not be a Basquiat, but they’re mine, so I love them anyway.
56.What was the author’s dream as a kid? (no more than 5 words)
57.What did the author find after the portrait presentation?(no more than 15words)
58.What factors motivated the author to keep his passion for arts? (no more than 15 words)
59.How do you understand the underlined word in Paragraph 6? (I word)
60.Besides painting, what other art form would you use to express your feelings? And explain why. (no more than 25 words)

B.Her further studies and researches on cyber disinformation
C.Her personal experience with misinformation
D.An introduction of a new digital literacy program

A.To create a national cyber security curriculum
B.To ensure all Florida students receive digital literacy education

D.As a necessary evil that should be ignored
45.What aspect of the new digital literacy program is highlighted in the article?

故选A。
根据第五段“Remember that your judgment of someone will not serve as a protection against you becoming like him. Just because I judge my lunch partner as rude does not prevent me from ever looking or acting like him. In the same way, extending tolerance to him would not cause me to suddenly begin chewing my food with my mouth open. (记住,你对某人的判断不会成为你变得像他一样的保护。仅仅因为我认为我的午餐伙伴粗鲁,并不妨碍我看起来或行为像他。同样的,对他宽容也不会让我突然张着嘴咀嚼食物)”可知,我们不要总是去判断别人,而是要反思我们自己。因为在我们不喜欢的人的身上有很多我们的所不喜欢的自己的性格的反应。故选B。

【答案】51.B 52.A 53.D 54.B 55.B
51.细节理解题,根据第一段的“This is especially true in agriculture, where sustainable development is often taken as the only measure of progress without a proper appreciation of historical and cultural perspectives. (在农业领域尤其如此,在没有正确认识历史和文化观点的情况下,可持续发展往往被视为衡量进步的唯一标准。)”可知可持续发展经常被认为是农业进步的标准,故选B。
52.推理判断题。根据第二段的“Medieval agriculture in northern Europe fed, clothed and sheltered a primarily rural society with a much lower population density than it is today. It had minimal effect on biodiversity, and any pollution it caused was typically localized. In terms of energy use and the nutrients captured in the product, it was relatively inefficient. (中世纪的北欧农业为当时人口密度远低于今天的农村社会提供衣食住行。它对生物多样性的影响很小,而且它造成的任何污染通常都是局部的。就能量使用和产品中捕获的营养物质而言,它的效率相对较低。)”和文章第五段“This will require people change the ways of thinking thoroughly, for example, we need to move away from the idea that traditional practices are inevitably more unavoidably more sustainable than new ones. (这需要人们彻底改变思维方式,例如,我们需要摆脱传统做法必然比新做法更不可避免更可持续的想法。)”可知,作者认为我们不能再认为传统耕作方式一定比新方式更具有可持续的特征,因此推断中世纪的耕作方式不一定是可持续的。故选A。
根据第三段“Contrast this with farming since the start of the industrial revolution, competition from overseas led farmers to specialize and increase yields. Throughout this period food became cheaper, safe and more reliable. However, these changes have also led to habitat loss and to diminishing biodiversity. (与工业革命开始以来的农业相比,来自海外的竞争促使农民专业化并提高产量。在这一时期,食品变得更便宜、更安全、更可靠。然而,这些变化也导致了栖息地的丧失和生物多样性的减少。)”可知,专业化和提高产量的努力导致了生物多样性减少。故选D。
54.细节理解题。根据第五段的“All this means that agriculture in the 21st century will have to be very different from how it was in the 20th. This will require people change the ways of thinking thoroughly, for example, we need to move away from the idea that traditional practices are inevitably more unavoidably more sustainable than new ones. (所有这些都意味着,21世纪的农业将与20世纪大不相同。这需要人们彻底改变思维方式,例如,我们需要摆脱传统做法必然比新做法更不可避免更可持续的想法。)”可知, 21世纪的农业生产和20世纪的截然不同,也就是说21世纪的农业生产将发生巨大的变化,我们应该彻底改变原有的想法,故选B。
55.推理判断题。根据文章首段“There are various developments throughout the world. Among them, sustainable development is put great emphasis on. At present, sustainable development is applied to just about everything from energy to clean water and economic growth, and as a result it has become difficult to question either the basic assumptions behind it or the way the concept is put to use. (世界各地都有各种各样的发展。其中,可持续发展受到高度重视。目前,可持续发展几乎适用于从能源到清洁水和经济增长的所有领域,因此很难质疑其背后的基本假设或该概念的使用方式。)”以及最后一段的“What is crucial is recognizing that sustainable agriculture is not just about sustainable food production.
56.To be a painter. 57.Others’/Other kids’ portraits looked so professional and/but his looked so amateur.
Others’/Other kids’ portraits looked more professional than mine; The author’s portraits looked amateur. 58.His childhood dream; His belief that painting is a forgiving art; The inspiration he got from Basquiat; The fact that he could channel pain into art. 59.Turn/Change 60.Open. I use singing to express my feelings. By singing my favorite songs, I can voice my passion and appreciation ease my depression in my life.
根据第二段的“When I was a kid, I really wanted to be a painter, but I was never great at it. (当我还是个孩子的时候,我真的很想成为一名画家,但我从来都不擅长)”可知,作者小时候的梦想是成为一名画家。故答案为To be a painter.
根据第二段的“I remember looking at other portraits thinking, “We were given the same skills, why do theirs look so professional and mine looks so amateur?”(我记得看到其他肖像时,我在想,“我们被赋予了同样的技能,为什么他们的看起来如此专业,而我的看起来如此业余?”)” Others’/Other kids’ portraits looked so professional and/but his looked so amateur.或者Others’/Other kids’ portraits looked more professional than mine; The author’s portraits looked amateur.
根据第二段的“When I was a kid, I really wanted to be a painter, but I was never great at it. (当我还是个孩子的时候,我真的很想成为一名画家,但我从来都不擅长)”,第三段“But I still really enjoyed painting because it’s a forgiving art. If I don’t like what I’ve put on paper, I can paint over it. I can mix colors and make new ones. Also, I can release some creative juices, use what has inspired me and allow that to pour out of me in a way I may not have imagined.(但我仍然很喜欢画画,因为这是一种宽容的艺术。如果我不喜欢我在纸上画的东西,我可以在上面画画。我可以混合颜色,制作新的。此外,我可以释放一些创造性的果汁,利用激励我的东西,让它以我可能无法想象的方式从我身上倾泻而出)”以及及第六段的“I am also very moved by pain. When there is pain in the world or in my heart, it can be unbearable. I had a conversation with an activist in St. Louis named Spook, and I explained to her this feeling and she told me, “Pain is energy. You have to learn how to channel that energy into something productive.” So sometimes I channel that pain into art, into a painting.(我也被疼痛所感动。 His childhood dream; His belief that painting is a forgiving art; The inspiration he got from Basquiat; The fact that he could channel pain into art.
Turn/Change
I use singing to express my feelings. By singing my favorite songs, I can voice my passion and appreciation ease my depression in my life.
