One afternoon in 2022, something on the Internet caught my eye:a tiny hedgehog (刺猬) held by a big hand. The post read: “HELP! My hedgehog abandoned her two babies, and I cannot raise both of them because I have to go to school fulltime. Good home with experience needed as soon as possible!”
I had no experience with baby hedgehogs. I was an animal person through and through and had raised cats, dogs, birds, and guinea pigs. But this tiny animal was new to me, and it touched me that he was abandoned, that maybe I could love him and be the best mom for him.
I wrote the most heartfelt email I could. That was how I found my Louie. True to my word, he was my baby. Louie didn’t know he was a hedgehog. He never curled (蜷缩) into a ball, and he liked my two cats, no fear. The cats, however, were afraid of him, as he often moved into the room, running after the cats and blocking my way.
By the time he reached old age, Louie had only three feet. However, he still managed to climb the stairs to visit other animals. He helped me realize my dream of hedgehog photography, a hobby that began during childhood with cats and dollhouses. I love showing off his modeling.
Life has meaning because of the purpose we have. Louie needed a good home and mom, and in return, I got to be a good mother and be needed. Hedgehogs require great amounts of patience, trust, and knowledge—but the payoff (回报) is pretty great.
24.The author got Louie from ______.
A.a pet shop B.a family friend
C.a hedgehog owner D.a hedgehog rescue center
25.How did Louie seem to feel at the author’s home?
A.Frightened. B.Relaxed. C.Lonely. D.Tired.
26.What can we learn about Louie from paragraph 4?
A.He disliked climbing stairs.
B.He enjoyed being left alone.
C.He always refused to be in photos.
D.He was active despite his difficulty in moving.
27.What does the author say about raising Louie?
A.It was easier than expected. B.It gave her a sense of safety.
C.It made her lose her patience. D.It was satisfying and meaningful.

If it seems like all your friends have smartphones, you may be on to something. A new report by Common Sense Media, which reports on technology and media for children, found that by the age of 11, more than half of kids in the US have their own smartphone. By age 12, more than two-thirds do, and by 14, teens are just as likely as adults to own a smartphone. Some kids start much younger. Nearly 20% of 8-year-old kids have their own smartphone!
Well, I study the effects of media and technology on kids, and I’m here to say that there is no single right answer to this question. The best I can offer is this: When both you and your parents feel the time is right.
Here are some points to consider to help you and your parents make this decision.
Be responsible. Have you shown that you are generally responsible? Do you understand the value of money, and can you save up to buy things you want?
Keep safe. Do you travel to or from school or after-school activities without an adult? This is when phones often go from a “want” to a “need”. Sometimes parents report that they feel better knowing they can reach their children directly, and that their kids can reach them, too.
Be careful. Do you treat your friends with kindness and respect? Do you know the fact that once something goes out onto the web, it can never truly be deleted?
When you have a smartphone, your parents are the No. I most important influence in your life. If parents use their phones all day, guess what? Their children probably will be like that, too. However, if parents have smartphone habits like putting the phone away during meals, that will go a long way toward helping kids develop the same habits.
28.What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.The benefit of the phone. B.The need for the phone.
C.The right age for the use of the phone. D.The way of using the phone
29.A phone goes from a “want” to “a need” when children use it to ______
A.keep in touch with their parents B.get some information online
C.chat with their friends online D.send messages to their friends
30.What should parents do according to the last paragraph?
A.Teach their children to use phones. B.Use their phones as little as possible.
C.Control their children’s using phones. D.Set a good example for their children.
31.What would be the best title of the passage?
A.The advantages of having a phone
B.How children use their phones
C.How old children should be to get phones
D.The problems with children’s having phones

“The failure to play is now a serious issue and it calls for action for change,” says Sir Ken Robinson, a leading expert in education, creativity and human development. This is the driving force behind Outdoor Classroom Day—a global teacher-led campaign, supported by Dirt is Good, a company producing daily chemical products.
Outdoor Classroom Day, taking place on 17th May and 1st November this year, will see schools around the world swap the inside for the outside and take learning into the playground and beyond to make playtime a key part of the school day. This might involve using natural objects like stones to do sums, or going on an insect hunt to encourage curiosity. By now, Outdoor Classroom Day has grown from a grassroots movement to a global campaign that is expected to benefit five million children and over 40,000 schools from all around the world in 2018.
This is helping to change the trend that sees many schools selling up or building on their playgrounds and cutting back on playtime to make more room for academic studies, while at home children’s lives are increasingly filled with organized activities intended to help them learn. Today globally 61% of parents surveyed in the Dirt is Good Qualitative Study said that children don’t know how to play without using technology.
Outdoor Classroom Day is making playing time happen, with 22% of participating schools having increased their playtime since joining the campaign. 93% of teachers surveyed saw improvements in children’s creativity after playing outside, and 97% believe that time outdoors is necessary for children to reach their full potential.
Scientific studies show that real play—the active, physical, self-directed play—is essential for children to develop key life skills that are not taught elsewhere. Few would question the value of developing creativity, leadership, resourcefulness, and curiosity.
32.What do children do on Outdoor Classroom Day?
A.Have P.E. classes on the playgrounds.
B.Have a day off and go playing anywhere.
C.Learn and play by using natural things outside.
D.Play on their own without the teachers’ guidance.
33.Why do children spend less time outdoors?
A.Schools stop providing playgrounds.
B.Adults ignore the importance of playtime.
C.Parents prefer to home school their children.
D.Technology helps children learn better at home.
34.What’s the school teachers’ attitude towards the campaign?
A.Opposed B.Cold C.Enthusiastic D.Favourable
35.What’s the passage mainly about?
A.To introduce an activity. B.To advertise a product.
C.To entertain the public. D.To persuade students to play.
