Now every aspect of her life is environmentally friendly, from her son Adam’s birthday parties to her clothing, and she recycles everything from empty pens to milk bottle tops. “Changing our family lifestyle to green has saved us around £11,000 every year, which has given us more financial stability,” Carrie says. “Living green has made us healthier and I feel younger now. It is fun seeing what you can make with unwanted or broken things. Growing your own food is great exercise, good for wildlife, and the food is much more nutritious and tastier.” “My concern for the way we humans are treating the planet was really roused when Adam was born. When he arrived, I suddenly had this huge, greater awareness of the kind of planet we’re bringing our children into though I learnt something about it in university.” She began going to talks, reading books, watching documentaries and attending green meetings in order to educate herself in the details of green living. Carrie set up the local campaign group Sussex Green Living six years after her son’s birth. Later, she gave up her high-powered job, as she ran a video company with her brother, to do her job full-time. Today, she organizes talks and workshops. She runs a repair cafe, where people can bring everything to be fixed. Her recycling program helps people reuse wastes. Toothpaste tubes, for example, which Carrie sends to the Philippines, are turned into purses by an organization. “My goal is to inspire more people to lead greener, more environmentally friendly lives, to enable us to live in greater harmony with nature, now and for future organizations. I achieve this using various Sussex Green Living communication programs and working with other organizations who have the same goals and values.” 24. How did Carrie feel about her environmentally friendly lifestyle? A. Unwanted. B. Unhealthy. C. Expensive. D. Economical. 25. Which of the following is true about Carrie? A. She made good preparations for living green. B. She recycled what people ignored for fun. C. She does daily exercise by growing food. D. She majored in planet protection in university. 26. What does Carrie rely on to make her achievements? A. Her repair cafe and workshops. B. Her own programs and others’ work. C. Her well-paid job and her brother’s support. D. Her independence of realizing her green dream. 27. When did Carrie begin to form her environmentally friendly lifestyle? A. After winning an award. B. After giving birth to her son. C. After being stuck in poverty. D. After attending green meetings 【答案】24. D 25. A 26. B 27. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。主要讲述了英国51岁的母亲Carrie Cort和她9岁的儿子因在环保方面取得的成就获奖,被评为英国最环保的家庭。 【24题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段““Changing our family lifestyle to green has saved us around £11, 000 every year, which has given us more financial stability,” Carrie says.(“改变我们的家庭生活方式为绿色,每年为我们节省11000英镑,这使得我们的财政稳定,”Carrie说)”可知,Carrie认为自己环保的生活方式可以节省钱,是经济的。故选D。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“She began going to talks, reading books, watching documentaries and attending green meetings in order to educate herself in the details of green living.(她开始参加讲座、读书、看纪录片和参加绿色会议,以了解绿色生活的细节)”可知,Carrie为自己的绿色生活做了充分的准备。故选A。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“Carrie set up the local campaign group Sussex Green Living six years after her son’s birth.(Carrie在儿子出生六年后成立了当地Sussex Green Living运动组织)”以及“I achieve this using various Sussex Green Living communication programs and working with other organizations who have the same goals and values.(我通过使用各种各样的Sussex Green Living交流计划,并与其他有着相同目标和价值观的组织合作,实现了这一目标)”可知,通过自己成立的组织以及和别人共同合作的努力,Carrie取得了成就。故选B。 【27题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“My concern for the way we humans are treating the planet was really roused when Adam was born. When he arrived, I suddenly had this huge, greater awareness of the kind of planet we’re bringing our children into though I learnt something about it in university.(当亚当出生时,我对我们人类对待这个星球的方式的担忧真的被唤醒了。当他出生时,尽管我在大学里学到了一些东西,但我突然对我们带孩子进入的星球有了更大的认识)”可知,Carrie在生下儿子后,对人类对待地球的方式产生担忧,开始养成环保的生活方式。故选B。 C Competitive eating has become big business. The International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE) holds events for competitive eating all around the world. One of the most popular contests (竞赛) is held every 4th of July on Coney Island in New York. Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest started in 1916 and the event has been dominated (占据优势) by Takeru Kobayashi. The Japanese competitor set his first record in 2001, when he ate 50 hot dogs in 12 minutes and has won the contest six years in a row. The main types of food eaten in the contests are fast food. Hot dogs, chicken wings, pickles, corndogs and pizza are main foods of the contests. The contests usually last from around 8 to 12 minutes. Now most of the competitors are men, but there are also women who take part in competitive eating. Being large and overweight isn’t necessarily an advantage in competitive eating. The biggest advantage a competitor can have is the ability to actually stretch (扩张) their stomach. Many competitors will drink plenty of water over a period of time in order to achieve this. Apart from having an unusually stretchable stomach, another important thing seems to be hand to mouth speed. The IFOCE has very strict safety guidelines laid out regarding competitive eating. Competitions must take place in a controlled area and only competitors over the age of 18 are allowed to enter. They also advise against any type of home training. There has been much talk regarding the inclusion of competitive eating as an Olympic sport. Although the IFOCE has talked about that with the Olympic committee, it seems that they will not agree to it at present. 28. Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest _____. A. has a history of over 200 years B. takes place once a year in Japan C. is becoming less popular than before D. has made Takeru Kobayashi famous 29. What do we know about eating contests? A. Fast food is the only type of food. B. They usually last ten minutes or so. C. Only men are allowed to enter a contest. D. They are open to competitors of all ages. 30. What is the third paragraph mainly about? A. How to win an eating contest. B. The history of competitive eating. C. Safety guidelines from the IFOCE. D. The disadvantages of eating too much. 31. What’s the main purpose of the text? A. To report. B. To advertise. C. To introduce. D. To warn. 【答案】28. D 29. B 30. A 31. C 【解析】 【分析】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了竞吃比赛的有关情况。 【28题详解】 细节理解题。由第一段中的“The Japanese competitor set his first record in 2001 ... has won the contest six years in a row”可知,Takeru Kobayashi在美国纽约的内森国际吃热狗大赛上连夺六届冠军,这使得他名声远扬。故D选项正确。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。由第二段中的“The contests usually last from around 8 to 12 minutes”可知,竞吃比赛通常持续十分钟左右。故B选项正确。 【30题详解】 段落大意题。由第三段“The biggest advantage a competitor can have is the ability to actually stretch (扩张) their stomach. Many competitors will drink plenty of water over a period of time in order to achieve this. Apart from having an unusually stretchable stomach, another important thing seems to be hand to mouth speed.” D After waking up, you may feel frustrated that you cannot recall the dreams you had last night. Artificial intelligence may be able to help. Previously, there have been AI models that can turn text into images. They can do this by learning from a large amount of data from both tests and images. This time, researchers from Osaka University in Japan have trained an AI system called Stable Diffusion to recreate images based on people’s brain scans, reported Science magazine. The researchers used an online data set provided by the University of Minnesota, US, which consisted of brain scans from four participant as they each viewed a set of 1,000 photos. The scans were recorded by functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI). The AI then learned about the brain activities by analyzing changes in blood flow shown by the fMRI data: when a part of the brain is activated, more blood will flow to it. It then matched the brain activities with the photos. Finally, the researchers tested the AI on additional brain scans from the same participants when they viewed photos of a toy bear, airplane, clock and train. If the person looked at an airplane, for example, the AI would use the brain scan data to create an image of a very blurry airplane. Then , it would turn on the previous “text-to-image” model and improve the quality of the image by feeding itself the keyword “airplane”. The final images were “convincing” with about 80 percent of accuracy, according to the researchers. The new study created a novel approach that incorporates texts and images to “decipher the brain”, Ariel Goldstein from Princeton University, US, told Science magazine. B A mother, Carrie Cort, 51, from Sussex, and her nine-year-old son have been named the UK’s most environmentally friendly family after winning an award for their environmental achievements. Later she gave up her high-powered job, as she ran a video company with her brother, to do her job full-time. C She does daily exercise by growing food. D. After attending green meetings C Competitive eating has become big business. 28 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest _____. A. has a history of over 200 years B. takes place once a year in Japan C. is becoming less popular than before D. has made Takeru Kobayashi famous 29. What do we know about eating contests? A. Fast food is the only type of food. B. They usually last ten minutes or so. C Only men are allowed to enter a contest. D. To warn. D After waking up, you may feel frustrated that you cannot recall the dreams you had last night. In the future, scientists hope that the technology can be used to record imagined thought and dreams or allow people to understand how differently other animals perceive reality. 32. What makes Stable Diffusion different from previous AI models? A. It can turn text into images. B. It can reproduce images based on human’s brain scans. C. It can learn from a large amount of date. D. It assist people recollect their previous memory. 33. How did the researchers test the AI if it can recreate image? A. On additional brain scans from the same participants when they saw photos. B. They analyzed changes in blood flow. C. They used functional magnetic resonance imaging. D. They analyzed the date. 34. What is the meaning of “decipher” in the last paragraph? A. Know about. B. Break down. C. Take over. D. Become ill. 35. Which can be the best title of this passage? A. A new study. B. Artificial Intelligence. C. Functional magnetic resonance imaging. D. Visualizing our dreams. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) ____36____ Maybe it’s a walk in a forest, having a small garden or a few household plants.
