第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A.
There is a day in the life with AI, who follows your move: the way you travel, the food you eat, how you spend your money, the news you read and your social interactions...
7 a. m You wake up and glance at your iPhone, which unlocks itself using facial recognition
Apple’s Face ID changes your face to a set of numbers that act as your own unique identifier. This biometric portrait is not set in stone-it uses AI to track changes in your appearance, updating its model if you grow a beard, change your makeup style or get older and it also detects whether your eyes are open and your attention is directed at your phone.
8:30a.m You drive to work in your electric car
Cars such as the Tesla can do most of the ordinary aspects of driving. The vehicle’s AI system collects data from eight cameras, identifies obstacles, lanes (车道), intersections and traffic lights and decides what action to take, whether moving skillfully into an awkward parking spot or over- taking a slow lorry. But self-driving cars know only how to deal with situations they have seen before and an ongoing challenge is how to equip them for rare and unexpected events.
4:30p.m Your phone rings with a message from your Amazon Ring doorbell-a package has been delivered to your doorstep
Last year, about one in five households in the UK reported having an AI-based home security system. Amazon Ring uses a motion-activated camera, heat sensor and radar and uses computer vision software to make users different when a person, or a package, is outside their property. Humans have a heavy heat signature and with the radar, the object moving in 3D spaces can be detected.
9:30 p. m You scroll (滚动) through a newspaper article that contains a special ad
As you read news articles, scroll through social media, make Google searches and buy things online, you leave a trail of clues about who you are, what you might want to spend your money on-that is incredibly valuable for digital advertisers. AI sift (筛) this data for insights into your age, gender, lifestyle, income and your hobbies. This allows companies such as Google to serve up specific, targeted adverts that pop up as you scroll through a news article.
1. Which of the following is the disadvantage of electric cars?
A. Tendency to cut in. B. Lack of information about emergencies.
C. Uncontrolled parking areas. D. Speeding on the lane.
2. What can we learn about AI from the text?
A. Apple’s Face ID may change your facial features.
B. Self-driving vehicles can replace human drivers.
C. AI can work out your personal online preference.
D. About 20% of English homes adopt Amazon Ring.
3. What information does the text tell?
A AI enters many fields of our life. B. We will live a better life with AI.
C. The smartphone is a necessity for us. D. Personal information is no longer secure.
B.
Born in 1940 in Nyeri, Kenya, Wangari Maathai spent her childhood in the Kenyan countryside and her young adult life in the United States. She studied biology at Mount St. Scholastica College in Kansas, then obtained a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh. After returning to Kenya and pursuing her PhD at the University of Nairobi, Wangari became the first woman in East Africa to receive a doctor’s degree.
In the 1970s Wangari was an active member of the National Council of Women of Kenya. Women came to the council in part to search for solutions to the environmental problems—deforestation and desertification had caused many of the resources women relied on for food and clean water to decrease.
Fuelled by her knowledge of biology and her passion for helping others, Wangari decided to take action. Wangari had two goals in mind: to help restore environmental resources and give women the ability to support their families in a self-sufficient, sustainable way. To achieve her goals, she came up with a practical but impactful idea: to plant trees. The trees would reduce the effects of deforestation, in addition to providing food and firewood for local families. Wangari’s plan inspired the formation of the Green Belt Movement in 1977, an organisation dedicated to environmental conservation and poverty reduction in Kenya.
As the Green Belt Movement grew, Wangari began to focus on several different but interconnected causes: environmental conservation and human rights. In the late 1980s, she called on her community to oppose the construction of a skyscraper (摩天大楼) in Uhuru Park, Nairobi’s central public space. In 1999 she led a protest against the privatisation of Karura Forest in Nairobi, during which Green Belt Movement members were beaten by private guards. Despite facing ongoing opposition and even danger, Wangari’s belief in her work was never shaken.
Wangari served on the boards of countless environmental organisations, and spoke to members of the United Nations. Due to her tireless work Wangari received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004.
4. What do we know about Wangari Maathai?
A. She had a hard childhood in Kenya.
B. She acquired an excellent education.
C. She was the first woman to get a degree.
D. She came back to Kenya due to her colour.
5. What contributed to the foundation of the Green Belt Movement?
A. Wangar’s family’s support.
B. Wangari’s achievements in biology.
C. Wangari’s tree-planting idea.
D. Wangari’s desire to fight world poverty.
6. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Wangari’s efforts to expand her influence.
B. Wangari’s ways to fight for human rights.
C. Wangar’s strategies to establish a reputation.
D. Wangari’s plans to handle growing opposition.
7. Which of the following best describes Wangari Maathai?
A. Honest and hard-working. B. Patient and unselfish.
C. Considerate and generous. D. Determined and inspiring.
C.
In the movie “The Wrong Trousers”, a pair of futuristic trousers lets people walk on walls and ceilings. Inspired by the movie, researchers in England created “The Right Trousers”, a set of trousers embedded(嵌入) with electrical pumps to force air into tiny tubes that expand and can help elderly or disabled people with issues like getting up or improving blood flow. Now, material scientists, computer programmers and fabric designers are working to advance robotic clothing.
In June, researchers in Australia created robotic fibers, which can make fabric move automatically. Last year, scientists at MIT built fiber batteries that could be embedded into clothes and power robotic clothing. In recent years, Google partnered with brands like Levi’s and Adidas to put sensors in jackets, backpacks and shoes, letting users access their phones instantly. Researchers said they could soon unlock an era where clothing will act more like a computer, sensing how your body feels and telling your clothes how to help.
At the University of New South Wales in Australia, researchers are creating fabrics that can shape-shift. Thanh Nho Do, a senior lecturer at the school, said his team has created tiny tubes that can weave into sheets of fabric. These tubes can make fabric take various preprogrammed shapes. But challenges still remain for Do’s team, notably around making these robotic tubes smaller so they can weave easily with other fabrics.
Rebecca Kramer Bottiglio from Yale University agreed that many challenges remain before smart clothing “reaches their full potential.” It will be challenging to make these clothes, equipped with fibers and technology, strong enough to go through multiple cycles in the laundry, she said. Despite that, she says researchers will figure out a way forward. “Recent breakthroughs point toward a not-so-distant future where smart clothing will be a part of our everyday life.” she said.
8. What inspired the researchers to come up with “The Right Trousers”?
A. A film.
B. A blood issue.
C. The way electrical pumps work.
D. The way the elderly and disabled move.
9. What did scientists at MIT do last year?
A They put sensors in clothes.
B. They created movable robotic fibers.
C. They made batteries for robotic clothing.
D. They released smart clothing connected to cellphones.
10. What does Do’s team find challenging?
A. Making robotic tubes smaller.
B. Keeping robotic tubes properly shaped.
C. Producing stronger robotic tubes.
D. Programming the shape of robotic tubes.
11. What is Rebecca’s attitude toward the future of smart clothing?
A. Doubtful. B. Indifferent. C. Worried. D. Hopeful.
D.
Will chatbots that can generate fascinating articles destroy education as we know it?
New York City’s Department of Education recently banned (禁止) the use of ChatGPT. “While the tool may be able to provide quick and easy answers to questions,” says the official statement, “it does not build critical-thinking skills, which are necessary for academic and lifelong success.”
Banning such use of technology from the classroom is a nearsighted response. Instead, we must find a way forward in which such technologies combine well with, rather than replace, student thinking.
Banning ChatGPT is impossible in practice. Students will find ways around the ban, which will cause a further defensive response from teachers and administrators, and so on. It’s hard to believe that a close race between those digital natives and their educators will end in a decisive victory for the latter. In fact, chatbots may well speed up a trend (趋向) toward valuing critical thinking. In a world where computers can fluently answer any question, students need to get much better at deciding what questions to ask and how to fact-check the answers the program generates.
So how do we encourage young people to use their minds when real thinking is so hard to tell apart from its simulacrum (假象)? Teachers, of course, will still want to watch students taking old-fashioned, in-person, no-chatbot-allowed exams to check that they do not cheat.
But we must also figure out how to do something new: how to use tools like GPT to inspire deeper thinking. GPT often generates text that is fluent and “reasonable” — but wrong. So using it requires the same mental heavy lifting that writing does: forming an opinion, creating an outline, picking which points to explain and which to drop, and looking for supporting facts. GPT can help with those tasks, but it can’t put them all together. Writing a good essay still requires lots of human thought and work. Indeed, writing is thinking, and good writing is good thinking.
One approach is to focus on the process as much as the result. For instance, teachers might require four drafts of an essay. After all, as John McPhee, the famous writer, said, “the central nature of the process is revision.” Each draft gets feedback from the teacher, from peers or even from a chatbot. Then the students produce the next draft, and so on.
Will AI one day outperform human beings in thinking? Maybe, but for now, we must think for ourselves. Like any tool, GPT is an enemy of thinking only if we fail to find ways to make it our partner.
12. How does the author feel about the ban?
A. Understandable. B. Irresponsible. C. Unwise. D. Necessary.
13 Why is it impossible to ban ChatGPT in practice?
A. Because students are digitally fluent. B. Because schools will defend the ban.
C. Because ChatGPT will keep developing. D. Because people treasure critical thinking.
14. How does the author explain his idea in Paragraph 6?
A. By quoting others. B. By presenting facts. C. By giving examples. D. By showing similarities.
15. What is the passage mainly about?
A. Is GPT a process or a result? B. Will GPT outperform students?
C. Why Chatbots become a new trend? D. How can Chatbots serve education?

The last few years have witnessed the rise of education technology and online tutoring (辅导) firms.______16______ Such people, however, have completely ignored the one thing that makes studying in a proper classroom irreplaceable and that is the importance of teachers.
The internet has more information about any given topic than any one person can ever hope to possess._____17_____Knowing that ‘tomato is a fruit’ is information, and not putting it in a fruit salad is wisdom. This example does a perfect job in illustrating just how important wisdom is in daily life. Books and the internet can give you information, but only a teacher can pass on wisdom._____18_____
You can develop the most amazing online tutoring platform and fill it with amazing and interesting videos but it is never enough. Every single student is unique in his or her own way._____19_____They can hardly be sufficient for the problems that students face in their life outside the classroom. Only teachers who have spent time with their students can guide the students in a way that can help them figure a way out of any problem they might be facing in their life.
_____20_____While the list of reasons stating the importance of teachers is a bit too long to put in a single article, these two are enough to silence anyone who believes that going to school to be taught by proper teachers will soon become obsolete (淘汰的).

The summer finally came. That afternoon, the hot sun was shining brightly, making the tree leaves almost burn and making people’s bodies seem to be on fire. Having nothing interesting to do at home, I decided to go to the pool to enjoy the coolness instead of going swimming. The reason was simple — I still couldn’t swim. I was impatient, and I always failed to do something and suffered losses. So the swimming lesson was put off again and again.
Upon arriving at the gym’s pool, I was greeted by a lively scene. Some people just jumped into the water, with hands entering first and the body following in a smooth motion. Some were kicking their legs rhythmically below the surface. All were happy. That was infectious, and I couldn’t help but feel deep admiration. Then I made a decision!
Taking a deep breath, I followed their example, closing my eyes and jumping into the “vast water” with a plop (扑通声).
At this moment, my head was pointing to the ground and my feet to the sky. When I “plopped” to the bottom, my whole body was swinging hard and my hands and feet lost their ability to feel. I just felt water rushing towards me, and my nose was filled with water. It was very terrible. Suddenly, I was hit by something. I struggled out of the light blue water bit by bit as if being dragged.
“That’s horrible!” I shouted 1oudly, and while I was complaining, I suddenly realized that I couldn’t swim in the first place, so why should I be shocked? Just when I decided to stay away from water, someone gently patted my shoulder and said, “Don’t be discouraged, little girl. Look, swimming requires...” The lady introduced herself as Allison. She gave me a “1ecture” on how to hold my breath, how to kick gently, and how to start with floating with the help of a swimming ring, being patient while giving me a demonstration.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“Why not try one more time?” said Allison.

As the Green Belt Movement grew Wangari began to focus on several different but interconnected causes: environmental conservation and human rights.

A. They put sensors in clothes.
C. Worried. D. Hopeful.

C. Unwise. D. Necessary.
13. Why is it impossible to ban ChatGPT in practice?
【答案】12. C 13. A 14. B 15. D
根据第三段“Banning such use of technology from the classroom is a nearsighted response. Instead, we must find a way forward in which such technologies combine well with, rather than replace, student thinking.(禁止在课堂上使用这种技术是一种目光短浅的反应。相反,我们必须找到一条前进的道路,让这些技术与学生的思维很好地结合在一起,而不是取代学生的思维。)”可知,作者认为这一禁令很不明智。故选C。

细节理解题。根据第四段第二句“Students will find ways around the ban, which will cause a further defensive response from teachers and administrators, and so on.(学生们会找到绕开禁令的方法,这将引起教师和管理人员进一步的防御性反应,等等。)”可知,不可能在实践中禁止ChatGPT是因为学生们对数字技术很精通。故选A。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据第六段最后五句“GPT often generates text that is fluent and “reasonable” — but wrong. So using it requires the same mental heavy lifting that writing does: forming an opinion, creating an outline, picking which points to explain and which to drop, and looking for supporting facts. GPT can help with those tasks, but it can’t put them all together. Writing a good essay still requires lots of human thought and work. Indeed, writing is thinking, and good writing is good thinking.(GPT通常生成流畅且“合理”的文本,但却是错误的。因此,使用它需要和写作一样的脑力劳动:形成观点,创建大纲,选择要解释哪些要点,哪些要点要放弃,寻找支持事实。GPT可以帮助完成这些任务,但它不能把它们放在一起。写一篇好文章仍然需要很多人的思考和工作。的确,写作就是思考,好的写作就是好的思考。)”可知,作者通过陈述事实来解释他的观点。故选B。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Will AI one day outperform human beings in thinking? Maybe, but for now, we must think for ourselves. Like any tool, GPT is an enemy of thinking only if we fail to find ways to make it our partner.(人工智能有一天会超越人类的思维能力吗?也许吧,但现在,我们必须为自己考虑。像任何工具一样,只有当我们找不到方法让它成为我们的伙伴时,GPT才是思考的敌人。)”和全文内容可知,作者核心在讨论如何让ChatGPT服务教育而非在未来超过学生。故选D。

52. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“Why not try one more time?” said Allison.

As the day drew to a close, I still could not swim very well.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Version 1:
“Why not try one more time?” said Allison. Her words echoed in my mind, and I found myself nodding in agreement. After all, I had come here with a purpose — to learn how to swim. So why give up now? With renewed determination, I took a deep breath and prepared to give it another go. This time, I focused on her instructions and tried to mimic her movements as closely as possible. Surprisingly, I was able to stay afloat for a few seconds longer than before. Progress, however small, was still progress.
As the day drew to a close, I still could not swim very well. But I didn’t feel defeated or discouraged. Instead, I felt a sense of accomplishment and pride. After all, I had taken the first step towards overcoming my fear of water and learning a new skill. And even though I wasn’t quite there yet, I knew that with practice and patience, I would eventually get it. Besides, today had been more than just about learning how to swim. It had also been about finding the courage to face my fears and trying something new. And for that, I was grateful to Allison and the encouragement she had given me.
Version 2:
“Why not try one more time?” said Allison. She smiled at me encouragingly, her eyes filled with warmth and confidence. “You can do it, girl. I know it seems scary, but with the right techniques and some practice, you’ll be swimming like a fish in no time.” She handed me a swimming ring and gently guided me back to the shallow end of the pool. Together, we began the slow process of teaching me to float and then, eventually, to swim.
As the day drew to a close, I still could not swim very well. But I had made progress, and that was what mattered. I could now float comfortably with the help of the swimming ring, and my kicks were becoming more coordinated. Allison praised me for my efforts and told me to keep practicing. She knew that with time and dedication, I would overcome my fears and learn to swim. And so, with a renewed sense of determination, I bid farewell to the pool that day, knowing that my journey to becoming a confident swimmer had just begun.
