The day of the Ridge City Skate Race (滑冰比赛) was finally here. All the animals got ready for the race all year and were excited.
Molly Mouse, the smallest skater, almost could not see the starting line (起跑线). Everyone thought she was too small to win. Happy Lion, the biggest skater, was ready to race, too. Pinky Pig and Lazy Cat couldn’t wait because both of them almost won last year.
The skaters lined up, the flag (旗帜) came down, the skaters took off.
Thump! Faster and faster Happy Lion skated down the street, and he was winning! Suddenly, his skate hit the curb (路牙) and fell to the ground. The other skaters raced past him.
Lazy Cat came first now while Pinky Pig unluckily landed on sand (沙地), wasn’t hurt but dizzy (晕的). He tried hard to catch up but failed. Molly Mouse was the last skater to come around the comer.
“Should I stop?” She said to herself. “If I stop, I’ll never catch up.” Finally she decided to help Pinky Pig go on skating.
Around the next corner was a path which went up a high hill. “Skating uphill is hard,” Lazy Cat said. “The other skaters might catch up with me.” She thought for a while and turned the sign. ①My daughter gave me an address book for my birthday. She knows the one I have is old. The gift is lovely: the cover is colourful, and the pages are white. But I don’t feel like I am free to use this new address book because I’m still tied to my old one.
②My address book tells my own story—the way I moved around. Names were added in different colours from different periods of my life. When I moved back home to Niagara, my address book included the old information I needed in order to be able to get in touch with some of my old friends again.
③There are certainly stories of friendships in this book—the comings and goings of my friends. Their address has been corrected again and again, filling up one line after another. I have started using pencil for some of them because they are taking up too much space! Some friends went on to marry each other. For such things, I used arrows (箭头) to show how these two families had become one. Children’s names were added one by one. Then some got their own lines as they moved out.
④This book also includes the stories of my family—two generations (一代人) of relatives. I can remember all their phone numbers, and I can picture their houses in detail. Some have died, but their addresses are still there in my book.
⑤“Don’t you have all that on your phone?” My daughter, who never uses address books, asked me once when she saw me checking my address book. I know that having it on a phone is super useful and can save a lot of trouble. But making changes on a phone is always done completely. When you don’t see a person any more, you delete (删除) all his information. It’s like he was never there.
⑥My old address book now sits on top of the new one. The magnet (磁铁) on its cover is as strong as ever, keeping all the people from A to Z in order. But my new address book whispers a story of new possibilities. It offers me space for those new friends that I haven’t met yet. I’ll get to it. It’s just a matter of time.
33.The old information in the old address book can help the writer ________.
A.move back home to Niagara B.connect with old friends again
C.move around the world D.make more new friends
34.The writer drew arrows in his address book when ________.
A.two friends became husband and wife B.two strangers became friends

A.The writer decides to put all her friends’ information into a phone.
B.The writer doesn’t like the new address book.
C.The writer has decided to throw her old address book away.
D.The writer will start to use the new address book soon.
36.What is the proper structure of the passage?
A.①—②③④⑤—⑥ B.①②③—④—⑤⑥
C.①②—③④—⑤⑥ D.①—②③④—⑤—⑥
D
We usually send and receive information through the movement of our bodies. Body language can show different feelings. We often use gestures (手势) or body movements to show and express our mind. For example, when someone is giving a talk, he or she may often use his or her hands to emphasize (强调) points.
The victory (胜利) sign, the OK sign, the goodbye wave and the blowing of a kiss are all popular gestures in America. However, most of these gestures are not accepted (接受) by people in other countries. For example, the OK gesture means acceptance in America, but it has other meanings in other countries. In France, it means worthlessness (无价值), while in Greece it is a sign of quite disrespect (不尊重).
There are some other differences in the non-verbal (非语言的) messages of people of different sexes (性别). In American culture, men usually sit or stand with their legs apart and hands outward, while women usually keep their legs together and their hands at their sides. Women sit quietly than men most of the time. Women are also better than men at expressing themselves using gestures.
In short, body language is simple and useful, so we should learn how to use it in our daily lives.
37.Which gestures are talked about in this passage?
①the stop sign ②the OK sign ③the goodbye sign
④the quiet sign ⑤the victory sign ⑥the kiss sign
A.①②③⑤ B.②③⑤⑥ C.①③⑤⑥ D.②③④⑤
38.The writer believes that ________.
A.gestures are easy to learn for women
B.different countries have the same gestures
C.men usually sit quietly more often than women
D.women are better at expressing themselves by using gestures
39.We learn from the passage that ________.
A.if we want to emphasize our points, we must use gestures
B.the blowing of a kiss is thought to be rude in Greece
C.there are differences between men’s and women’s non-verbal messages
D.many people don’t like to express themselves by using gestures
40.What’s the best title for this passage?
A.Body language. B.The OK sign.
C.Different Cultures. D.Popular languages.

Everyone is born with the ability to learn. But whether you can do this well depends on (取决于) your learning habits. Research (研究) shows that successful learners have some good habits in common.
Creating an interest in what they learn.
Studies show that if you are interested in something, your brain is more active and it is also easier for you to pay attention to (注意) it for a long time. 41 For example, if they need to learn English and they like music or sports, they can listen to English songs or watch sports programs in English. This way they will not get bored.
42

Developing their study skills.
It is not enough to just study hard. 43 For example, they may take notes by writing down key words or by drawing mind maps. They also look for ways to review (预习) what they have learned. They may do this by reading their notes every day or by explaining the information to another student.
Asking questions.
44 They even ask each other and try to find out the answers. Knowledge comes from questioning.
Learning is a lifelong journey because every day brings something new. Everything that you learn becomes a part of you and changes you. 45
A.Don’t be afraid of failure (失败).
B.Practising and learning from mistakes.
C.Good learners know the best way they can study.

“Should I stop?” She said to herself. “If I stop, I’ll never catch up.” Finally she decided to help Pinky Pig go on skating.

A.move back home to Niagara B.connect with old friends again

A.two friends became husband and wife B.two strangers became friends

D.The writer will start to use the new address book soon.

B.the blowing of a kiss is thought to be rude in Greece
C.there are differences between men’s and women’s non-verbal messages
