Saini Yang at Beijing Normal University in China and her colleagues analyzed global climatological data from 1979 to 2019 to identify relations in temperature and precipitation between the Amazon rainforest and other areas. Such links are called “teleconnection1s”. They focused on the Amazon rainforest in particular because of its significance as a major carbon sink and as a climatic “tipping point” (爆发点) that could see forest turn to savannah (稀树草原) beyond a certain threshold (阈,界) of warming and human-driven deforestation. The researchers found that since 1979, warm temperatures in the Amazon rainforest were related to warm temperatures over the Tibetan plateau and the West Antarctic ice sheet; more precipitation in the Amazon rainforest was associated with less precipitation in those regions. By analyzing changing temperatures in the regions between the Amazon rainforest and those distant areas, they were also able to trace the path through which energy or materials such as black carbon released in forest fires might spread through the atmosphere. Their analysis showed the route remained consistent under different future warming scenarios. The collapse of the West Antarctic ice sheet is a known tipping point. Melting snow on the Tibetan plateau is not, but the region is warming more rapidly than much of the rest of the globe, and changes to snow and ice there could have consequences for ecosystems and the billions of people that rely on its snowmelt for water, says Yang. Victor Brovkin at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Germany says the teleconnections are an interesting find, but is skeptical that variability in the Amazon rainforest causes the changes elsewhere. He says the Amazon rainforest is too small an area to overcome the influence of the tropical oceans and the researchers don’t present a physical mechanism to explain any influence. If the Amazon rainforest does have an influence on these regions, however, it could mean there is à higher risk that the Amazon rainforest tipping point might set others off, says Jonathan Donges-at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany. “It adds an additional potential domino (多米诺骨牌) that can fall. ” 32. Why was the Amazon rainforest the focus for Saini Yang’s research? A. Because it played a role as a main carbon sink. B. Because it was the most important carbon sink. C. Because it was very likely to turn to savannah. D. Because it was at a high risk of becoming a climatic “tipping point”. 33. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The benefits of the research. B. The findings of the research. C. The means of analyzing the data. D. The results of the Amazon rainforest being deforested. 34. Which of the following points may Saini Yang agree with? A. The temperature of the Tibetan plateau changes the fastest. B. The variability in the Amazon rainforest may not lead to changes elsewhere. C. The more the Amazon rainforest rains, the less rainfall the Tibetan plateau may have. D. The consequences of the collapse of the West Antarctic ice sheet are little-known. 35. What can we learn about the Amazon rainforest from the last two paragraphs? A. Teleconnections have kept the researchers interested for a long time. B. The Amazon rainforest tipping point is likely to set off those of other areas. C. The findings of the research on the Amazon rainforest are controversial. D. The Amazon rainforest is large enough to remove the influence of the tropical oceans. A 33. B 34. C 35. 根据第二段中的“They focused on the Amazon rainforest in particular because of its significance as a major carbon sink and as a climatic “tipping point” (爆发点) that could see forest turn to savannah (稀树草原) beyond a certain threshold (阈,界) of warming and human-driven deforestation. (他们特别关注亚马逊雨林,因为它是一个重要的碳汇,也是一个气候“爆发点”,超过一定的变暖和人为砍伐森林的阈值,森林就会变成大草原。)”可知,因为亚马逊雨扮演了主要碳汇的角色,所以杨赛霓教授的研究的焦点是亚马逊雨林,故选A。 【33题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段“The researchers found that since 1979, warm temperatures in the Amazon rainforest were related to warm temperatures over the Tibetan plateau and the West Antarctic ice sheet; more precipitation in the Amazon rainforest was associated with less precipitation in those regions. By analyzing changing temperatures in the regions between the Amazon rainforest and those distant areas, they were also able to trace the path through which energy or materials such as black carbon released in forest fires might spread through the atmosphere. Their analysis showed the route remained consistent under different future warming scenarios.(研究人员发现,自1979年以来,亚马逊雨林的温暖温度与青藏高原和南极西部冰盖的温暖温度有关;亚马逊雨林降水越多,这些地区降水越少。通过分析亚马逊雨林和这些遥远地区之间的温度变化,他们还能够追踪森林火灾释放的能量或物质(如黑碳)可能通过大气传播的路径。他们的分析表明,在不同的未来变暖情景下,这一路线保持一致。)”可知,第三段主要谈论了研究结果。故选B。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“The researchers found that since 1979, warm temperatures in the Amazon rainforest were related to warm temperatures over the Tibetan plateau and the West Antarctic ice sheet; more precipitation in the Amazon rainforest was associated with less precipitation in those regions. (研究人员发现,自1979年以来,亚马逊雨林的温暖温度与青藏高原和南极西部冰盖的温暖温度有关;亚马逊雨林降水越多,这些地区降水越少。)” 可知,Saini Yang会同意亚马逊雨林降雨越多,青藏高原的降雨量就越少的观点,故选C。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Victor Brovkin at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Germany says the teleconnections are an interesting find, but is skeptical that variability in the Amazon rainforest causes the changes elsewhere. (德国马克斯·普朗克气象研究所的维克多·布罗夫金说,这种远程关联是一个有趣的发现,但他怀疑亚马逊雨林的变化会导致其他地方的变化。)”和根据最后一段“If the Amazon rainforest does have an influence on these regions, however, it could mean there is à higher risk that the Amazon rainforest tipping point might set others off, says Jonathan Donges-at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany. “It adds an additional potential domino (多米诺骨牌) that can fall. If you get injured in a sport, what should you do? Your first question after a sport injury will ___63___(probable) be, “When can I play again?” This depends on the injury and ___64___ your doctor tells you. Even if you can’t return to your sport right away, the doctor might have advice on what you can do to stay healthy. Always talk with your doctor ___65___ trying any activity following an injury. 56. to deal 57. happening 58. equipment 59. yourself 60. who##that 61. held 62. is lying 63. probably 64. what 65. before 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了在运动中受伤时,如何自救或救助他人。 此处用动词不定式作way的后置定语,the way to do sth. 故填to deal。 “pull 4 out of the game”为祈使句,省略了主语you(你),pull为及物动词,故后面使用反身代词yourself作宾语。 故填who/that。 故填what。 It lasted just 24 seconds, but it’s an unforgettable moment that has caught hearts everywhere. During a basketball game at Zeeland East High School in Zeeland, Michigan, the crowd fell quiet, giving high school junior Jules Hoogland an opportunity to take a shot. Hoogland, who is blind, followed along as a woman tapped (轻敲) a yellow pole against the backboard and a teammate guided her to the perfect position. Thirteen seconds later, the 11th grader nailed a free throw and the silent audience erupted in roaring cheers and applause. Zeeland Public Schools shared the extraordinary moment, filmed by Brandy Navetta, the school district’s communications and marketing director on Twitter, along with the words, “You thought national basketball tournaments were infusive, but Zeeland Public Schools Unified Basketball took over the court this morning. And the crowd went wild!” Hoogland’s mom Karen said she was so proud of her achievement. She also praised the young students for their respect and sensitivity towards her daughter. Hoogland set a new record on what blind people can achieve and wanted this video to inspire all those who are facing challenges. “I’m hoping this video will inspire others to keep trying no matter what their challenges are,” she said. Students from both Zeeland East and Zeeland West High School witnessed Hoogland’s uplifting shot, part of an inclusive basketball game with zLinks. Nathan VandeGuchte, a special education teacher with Zeeland West, added that inclusive sports has made a significant impact on students at Zeeland schools since the zLinks program started. “It was so moving to see Hoogland hit that shot again in front of 2,500 people,” said Nathan. “The lens (视角) with which many of our special education students are viewed has now been forever changed. They know that they are important, and they recognize that they are contributing members of our student body!” 24. Why did the crowd go wild as Hoogland nailed a free throw? A. Because she couldn’t see. B. Because she was competitive. C. Because it was her first shot. D. Because it was the end of the game. 25. What does the underlined word “infusive” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Addictive. B. Puzzling. C. Informative. D. Exciting. 26. What message does Hoogland convey to us through her story? A. Dream big, dream early. B. Never fear to fight challenges. C. Interest is the best teacher. D. The more one does, the more one can do. 27. What can we infer about the special education students from Nathan’s words? A. They were usually overestimated. B. They got confidence from the program. C. They should be given more opportunities. D. They were eager to explore the unknown. 24. A 25. D 26. B 27. If you get injured in a sport, what should you do?
