Goodbye, Chinese paddlefish(白鲟)
It might be many people's first time hearing about the Chinese paddlefish, and they probably have never seen them swimming in the Yangtze River with their own eyes. Chinese paddlefish have lived for more than 150 million years, sharing the same sky with dinosaurs. But it didn't survive 2022.
Chinese paddlefish, often known as “king of freshwater fish (淡水鱼)” in China, could weigh as heavy as 500 kilograms and an adult fish could grow to 7 to 8 meters long. It had a long, silver-gray body and a very large mouth. With poorly developed eyes, the fish used its long, sword-like nose to sense electrical activity to find food.
The decline of Chinese paddlefish has been put down to human activities. These giants were once commonly seen and caught not only in the Yangtz but also other rivers in China. Their huge size made them a popular target for fishermen and a welcome dish to dinner tables. Overfishing(过度捕捞) caused their populations to decline sharply in the latter half of the 20th century.
In 2003, an adult Chinese paddlefish accidentally appeared near Yibin, in south-central China. Scientists hoped to follow its movements, but within hours all signals were lost. It turned out to be the last of the species ever seen alive.
The sad news of Chinese paddlefish's extinction(灭绝) spread quickly online. One said,“I've never met you before. The moment I do, it's goodbye forever.”

Look at the mind map below, write a short passage to introduce Chinese paddlefish and call on people to protect more endangered animals. The content includes:paddlefish
history
appearance
Where to live
The reasons for decline
Sample:
Chinese paddlefish have a history of more than 150 million years. They usually weigh 500 kilograms and an adult paddlefish is 7 to 8 meters long. They have a long silver-gray body with a sword-like nose, a large mouth but poorly-developed eyes. They mainly live in the Yangtz and other rivers in China. In the latter half of the 20th century, Chinese paddlefish declined sharply because of human activities, especially overfishing. The last of the species ever seen alive is near Yibin, in south-central China.
So let’s work together to protect other endangered animals. It’s our duty to take action now.
