(24-25高三上·浙江·阶段练习)How to Keep a Pet Bird Quiet
Birds can be excellent companions, but they can also make a lot of noise. Sometimes that noise is unavoidable, but there are a few steps you can take to train your bird out of loud or continuous squawking (尖叫).
1 Most birds tend to make some noise, either by singing or squawking. Birds tend to be most vocal during waking hours in the morning and before going to sleep in the evening. Some birds are more likely to make noise than others, but understand before bringing a bird home that some noise will be unavoidable.
Teach your bird to speak softly. Praise your bird when he whistles or whispers, instead of squawking or yelling. 2 It’s often easier to teach them soft- spoken words compared to other types of sounds. Furthermore, it's important to maintain a calm and gentle tone when interacting with your bird. 3 Because this could strengthen the behavior you are trying to discourage.
Avoid quick movements. It’s possible that you or someone in your household is moving too quickly around your bird, causing him to feel anxious or over- stimulated. 4 If you have children living at home, teach them not to run through the room your bird is in.
Provide your bird with comfort and security. Birds in the wild participate in “flock calls” as a way of communicating with other birds and ensuring the safety of the flock. If your bird is likely to squawk when you leave the room, it could be his attempt at sending you a flock call. 5
A.Understand bird behavior.
B.Train your bird to be quiet.
C.This may be especially useful for parrots.
D.Give him a treat for quietness to earn your love.
E.Try squawking back to let him know that you’re safe.
F.Do not raise your voice in response to your bird’s volume or tone.
G.Move slowly around your bird, and encourage others to do the same.
(2024·浙江嘉兴·一模)Boxing has been practiced for centuries— it was even one of the sports in the original Olympic Games in ancient Greece. 1 Hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life participate in the sport every week. But why? The answer lies in the physical, mental and even social benefits boxing can bring.
Its physical benefits are clear. Whether it’s practicing with a punching (拳打) bag, training with a partner or facing an opponent in the ring, boxing can be an intense form of exercise and give a full- body workout. 2 And it can also increase anaerobic (无氧的) fitness— allowing someone to work out harder, for longer. These can, in turn, positively impact other aspects of physical well- being, like heart health and weight management.
3 Boxing can also positively impact someone’s mental well- being. Dr Jessica Pinchbeck, Senior Lecturer in Sport and Fitness at the Open University, says that boxing can relieve some of the symptoms (症状) of anxiety and depression. Exercising regularly is already widely known to be good for mental health, but boxing can also bring a sense of discipline and focus.
And there is a third benefit to putting on the boxing gloves. Practicing punches can be done alone, of course. 4 It also involves working with others to train and stay safe. Dr Gavin Williams, Senior Lecturer in Education at the Open University, says that this cooperation and team work can create a sense of identity and belonging. 5
A.It can improve muscular strength.
B.But boxing is not just an individual activity.
C.So the interactive elements bring social benefits.
D.So boxing also strengthens a sense of community.
E.More recently, boxing has become the mainstream in the UK.
F.But the high physical demands of the sport aren’t just good for the body.
G.It promotes self- defense skills, helping build confidence to protect oneself.
(24-25高三上·浙江·阶段练习)Holidays abroad are easier than ever thanks to smartphones. With the autumn weather fast approaching, it’s the perfect time of year to jet off and get away from hustles and bustles. 1 Here are some top tips to make sure you’re not caught out on your break abroad.
Treat yourself to a power bank
The batteries inside our phones are typically designed to last for around a day of moderate usage. 2 So you’re going to want some extra support so you don’t end up going AWOL (absent without leave) when your phone dies. That’s why I recommend picking up a USB power bank, which will give you a little bit of extra juice to keep you connected to the rest of the world.
Enable Data roaming (漫游)
3 The good news is that it is easier than ever to stay connected to the net when abroad. Make sure you check with your network provider what your roaming plan is. In many countries it is straightforward to buy a SIM card for a local network, with a much more generous data allowance. 4 If you’ve got a newer phone, it will probably support “eSIM” — where you can simply use an app like Holafly or Airalo while connected to wifi to set yourself up on a new network temporarily.
Download offline application software
And finally, you need to get your apps in order. Once you reach your destination you’ll need a mapping app, and maybe even a translation app — Apple and Google make their own version of both. And modern translation apps are particularly exciting. 5 Then you get a clear translation. Make sure that all of the critical data is downloaded so that apps work offline and you can travel the world like a local. Bon voyage!
A.What good is a phone without Internet access?
B.You simply wave your phone at the scanner instead.
C.In fact, you may not even need a physical card anymore.
D.Why do you need to get your phone ready to be connected?
E.But when you’re away from home, you’re probably using it so much more.
F.You can typically just wave the camera of your phone over pretty much anything.
G.But before leaving for the airport, ensure your phone is ready for the journey ahead!
(24-25高三上·浙江·阶段练习)Human activities have made global rainfall more unstable over the past century, a new study suggests. 1 . Published Friday in the journal Science, it shows that rainfall variability has increased since the 20th century, ranging from global to regional scales and from daily to seasonal.
Rainfall variability refers to the unevenness of rainfall timing and rainfall amount. 2 For example, some places may receive a year’s rainfall in just a few days, experience downpours after long dry periods, or rapidly change between droughts and floods.
By analyzing a wide range of observational data, the researchers found that rainfall variability has increased by about 75% since the 20th century across the land areas studied, especially in Europe, Australia and eastern North America. 3
4 They identified the dominant role of anthropogenic (人为的) emissions of greenhouse gases. “The increase in rainfall variability is mainly due to anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, which have led to a warmer and more humid atmosphere,” said Wenxia Zhang, lead author of the study. This means that even if the atmospheric circulation remains unchanged, the extra moisture in the air will lead to more intense rainfall events.
Large and rapid fluctuations (波动) between extreme climates not only challenge the existing capabilities of contemporary weather and climate prediction systems, but also have chain effects on human society, threatening the economic development, ecosystem functions and terrestrial carbon sinks. 5
A.Immediate adaptation measures are crucial to meet these challenges.
B.Higher variability may bring more rain in a certain region.
C.The study was conducted by researchers from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
D.To understand the causes of increased rainfall variability, the team furthered the research.
E.Higher variability means that rainfall is more unevenly distributed over a period of time, leading to wet and dry periods.
F.It was also found that daily variability in global rainfall has increased by 1.2% per decade.
G.The study indicates that global rainfall will still increase in the next century。
(24-25高三上·浙江·阶段练习)In Chinese traditional architecture, a skywell is an open courtyard or well-like space usually located at the heart of a building or group of buildings. 1 Their designs often feature the classic Chinese dou gong overhangs to provide shade and collect water into a central basin.
Chinese skywells are so effective in cooling homes because they can control natural airing. Cool air is drawn into the building from the lower levels, and warm air escapes and rises through the upper levels. 2
The skywell’s layout and construction materials also help in thermal(热量的)regulation. During the day, the courtyard absorbs heat from the sun, acting as a thermal mass. 3 This day-night cycle helps maintain a balanced and consistent temperature indoors.
Most traditional skywells include water features, such as fountains or ponds. A recent study has shown that the most significant part of a skywell’s cooling effect comes from these water bodies. 4 As water evaporates(蒸发)from these features, it absorbs heat from the surrounding air. This reduces the temperature within the courtyard and surrounding rooms.
5 One fitting example is the National Heavy Vehicle Engineering Technology Research Centre in Jinan,an 18-story building that has a giant open space at its heart from the fifth floor to the top floor. The toilets, elevators, and meeting rooms surround this space. This enhances natural airing and natural energy consumption, according to the Shanghai-based CCDI Group.
A.This promotes fresh air flow, especially during hot summer days.
B.It is often a square surrounded by the building’s rooms and wings.
C.This cooling was disadvantageous in regions with hot and dry climates.
D.It’s probably why temperatures around them are 2.6℃ to 4.2℃ lower.
E.These wonders continue to inspire architects to seek sustainable solutions.
F.The magic of skywells stands as witnesses to the wisdom of ancient builders.
G.The stored heat is gradually released as the outdoor temperature drops at night.
(24-25高三上·浙江杭州·开学考试)Studies have shown that physical activity can improve mental alertness and cognitive function. Your brain works better and you can think more clearly after exercising. 1 If you are looking for a way to boost your studying, try incorporating daily exercise into your routine.
Try light exercise while you study.
A few studies have shown that performing light exercise while studying can help recall of information. These studies found that vigorous exercise while studying may hurt recall because your brain is focused on the workout instead of the information. 2 You can use the stationary bike while you study for at least half an hour, making sure to keep the intensity light.
Exercise at your desk.
You can get your blood pumping at your desk while you study. If you don’t want to leave everything and go for a quick 15-minute stroll, try getting some physical activity in where you are. Do some chair squats at your desk. 3 Hover just above the chair for about 10 seconds. Repeat this 20 times.
Take a walk on breaks.
If you are studying in the library, break up your study sessions with physical activity. 4 You can also do this if you are studying in your dorm or a coffee shop. Taking a break helps refresh yourself and gets blood flowing to the brain, which can help you think and remember better.
5
Consistent daily workouts, integrated with your study and class schedule, are more effective than cramming 150 minutes of physical activity into the weekend. Regular physical activity throughout the week enhances brain function when you need it most — during your study sessions — rather than isolating it to the weekend.
A.Focus on consistency.
B.Make the exercise an enjoyable experience.
C.Stand up from your chair, and then squat down without sitting down.
D.If you are going to exercise while studying, just make sure to keep it gentle.
E.Get up and take a fifteen-minute stroll around the building or around campus nearby.
F.Physical activity also helps boost memory and recall, which is important when studying.
G.Do low-impact gentle exercises, such as walking or swimming, at least 30 minutes a day.
(24-25高三上·浙江·阶段练习)Pursue Your Dreams Today, Not Tomorrow
Have you caught yourself daydreaming about your dreams? We often postpone our dreams, trapped in a cycle of delay. But why wait? 1 You don’t have to take a huge, life-changing step. You can take minute steps toward a brighter future. And start right now.
2 If you never try, you’re going to be weighed down by your regrets. You’re always going to wonder how your life would’ve turned out if you actually took a chance on yourself. Don’t let your future self be disappointed by your present self.
It doesn’t matter how old you are or how many people have warned you that you’re never going to succeed. Even the most successful people have had their hesitations about whether they had what it took to make it in their field. 3 Embrace a mindset of determination, knowing that success is within your reach.
At the end of the day, you need to carve out a path for yourself that will lead to the most satisfaction. If you allow your fear to get the best of you, you’re never going to forgive yourself. 4 . It’s what you would encourage your friends to do, so why aren’t you giving yourself that same push?
Sometimes, following your passion means spending a lot of your time each day. It may require making slight adjustments to your schedule, but you don’t have to sacrifice everything to follow your hearts. Try to strike a balance between your current life and your dreams. 5 .
Pursue your dreams now, even though that means you might need to break out of your comfort zone, and even though it means entering the unknown.
A.If things go well, you can gradually make further shifts.
B.Ask yourself what would be worse.
C.Starting small is completely acceptable.
D.You need to move past your insecurities and explore your full potential.
E.New opportunities may lead to personal growth.
F.Hard as it is, it’s crucial to wave off the doubts in the back of your mind.
G.You owe it to yourself to go after your dreams.
(24-25高三上·浙江杭州·开学考试)A fixed mindset of interest can harm creativity and innovation. If people believe they are limited to only a few particular interests and, in consequence, do not explore other areas, they may miss seeing important connections across different dimensions. 1 Those who with a growth mindset are also more likely to be creative when solving problems.
2 In June, we published findings from an intervention that succeeded in that aim. In two studies involving more than 700 first- year liberal arts undergraduates, we began by assessing how our participants saw themselves. The majority held strong interests in the arts, humanities and social sciences. 3
We then randomly assigned students to either our intervention or a study skills module. Our intervention included reading and reflective writing activities that helped students think about interests and passions as cultivated rather than as simply found and fixed. 4 The study skills module had a similar set of exercises but with an emphasis on building classic skills, such as time management and active learning.
These students were required to take at least one math and science course during their first year. That meant we could check how the intervention may have influenced their perspectives on math and science.
By the end of the year, students who had received the intervention were more interested in their required math and science courses than those who received the study skills module —— and this boost was particularly apparent among students who initially reported that they were not a“ math- and- science person”. 5 These students became more skilled in math and science and grew into interdisciplinary (跨学科的) scholars.
A.So can a growth mindset of interest be taught?
B.How can a growth mindset of interest be cultivated?
C.Meanwhile, a growth mindset of interest comes with many advantages.
D.Moreover, most reported that they were not a “math- and- science person”
E.They also earned better grades in courses than those receiving the study skills module.
F.However, a growth mindset of interest can fuel people's further exploration to different fields.
G.For example, students read an article stating the benefits of viewing interests as developable.
(24-25高三上·浙江·开学考试)Shame has been called our “most dreaded emotional experience.” We know the feeling only too well: Our pulse quickens. 1 The feeling is so bad that we want to escape at all costs. Here are some things you need to know about shame and some tips for how to feel less of it.
Shame and guilt are different emotions.
You feel guilty when you think you’ve done something wrong, but you feel shame when you believe that you are wrong. While guilt arises when you have made a mistake and can fix it, shame develops when you see yourself as the mistake. 2
Shame has warning signs.
There are many signs that you are experiencing shame. 3 And when someone brings up something you feel ashamed about, you may look down and avoid eye contact and talk in a soft voice.
4
Shame can lead to high blood pressure, stomach problems, insomnia, alcohol or drugs addiction, eating disorders. One study determined that external shame — the fear that others are judging us negatively — is associated with anorexia, while internal shame — our negative self- evaluation self-generated criticism — is associated with bulimia.
There is a cure for shame.
When you have a caring person to share your shameful and otherwise painful stories with, you will be able to fully express yourself and finally release the old, stored, toxic feelings that have been weighing you down. 5 At the same time, you will stop seeing yourself as bad or wrong. The change you will feel is profound.
A.Our faces flush.
B.Our eyes light up.
C.Shame can harm your physical health.
D.Sham e may make it harder for you to stay focused.
E.Free of those, you can shift your beliefs about yourself.
F.The critic inside your head tells you that you are a bad, worthless person.
G.You avoid being the center of attention and wish you could shrink into the walls.
(24-25高三上·浙江·阶段练习)Do you feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or uninterested in life lately? 1 There are some effective ways to deal with these feelings and regain control over your life.
2
If you’re feeling lost, the first step to regaining direction is to admit your feelings to yourself. Remind yourself that it’s perfectly normal to feel disappointed, or unfulfilled sometimes— everybody does at some point! These feelings are natural reactions to overwhelming events or changes.
Ask yourself why you’re feeling lost.
You don’t have to unearth the answer right away. Just ask yourself introspective (内省的) questions while journaling or meditating to turn your attention inward. 3 The journey to find your way again is highly personal and there are no right or wrong feelings to have!
Replace negative behavior or habits with healthier routines.
Do you have any less-than-helpful habits that weigh you down, like endlessly scrolling through social media or snapping at loved ones when you’re stressed? 4 Instead, swap these habits with new, positive ones.
Work with a mental health professional if you’re stuck.
It’s normal to need outside guidance to find your way in life again. If you find yourself at a loss for what to do next or aren’t sure how to cope with your feelings, see a therapist or counselor. 5 Additionally, they can show you how to make meaningful changes in your life to make you happier, healthier, and more enthusiastic about the future.
A.Do things that make you feel good.
B.If you do, know that you’re not alone.
C.Acknowledge and accept your feelings.
D.Allow yourself to think and process without judgment.
E.They can help you identify your feelings and the causes of them.
F.When you’re lost, it’s normal to lean into these unhealthy routines.
G.So, identify your top priorities and focus your time and energy on them.
(24-25高三上·浙江·开学考试)Why are Police Officers Called Cops?
Police officers are often referred to as cops. 1 Some argue the term is shortened from “copper” and comes from copper badges (徽章) worn by a policeman. Others say that it stands for “Constabulary of Police”.
General agreement on the word origins of “cop”, however, suggests that the term is based more on the policeman’s job than on his clothing or job title. In Latin, the verb capere can be defined as “to capture.” In French, the verb is caper. “To cop” in English is to seize or to take. 2
Some also believe that the Dutch word kapen, which also loosely translates to “to steal or take”, is related to policemen being called coppers or cops. Essentially, the police force was there to take criminals off the streets. 3 And since American English especially draws from German, French, and Latin, the specific language origin of kapen or capere creates a ready path to the term “cop”.
4 And it is no longer considered rude. However, certain other terms for police officers are definitely unwelcome. While British Police might not mind being called “bobbies”, no police members like to be referred to as “pigs” or the “fuzz”. Some don’t mind the term the “heat” as applied to the whole police force, but the police force does not generally take kindly to terms given to them by criminals.
The term “cop” is in such common usage now that a show documenting their work on the job is called Cops. Even though J. Edgar Hoover once highly objected to the term, it is now fine to refer to a policeman or a police woman as a cop. 5
A.The term is slightly less familiar to people.
B.So, the Latin, Dutch, and French terms are all similar.
C.These words define some of what a police officer does.
D.The profession of a police officer was not respected then.
E.But the origins of this nickname are something of a debate.
F.However, the term “police officer” is generally most correct.
G.Today it is appropriate to call members of the police force cops.
(2024·浙江绍兴·一模)Teamwork Doubles the Strength
Admittedly, teamwork is literally important for any class or team to achieve its goals and objectives. Let me give three reasons why it is advantageous.
As individuals, we possess diverse talents, strengths, weaknesses and experiences. A team is just like a tapestry (织锦) that weaves what each of us possesses, resulting in an end product that is diverse yet homogenous (同种类的). As team members exchange thoughts and experiences, there can be more efficiency and effectiveness at problem-solving. This pooling of talents can also lead to greater innovation and success. 1 . It won the Premier League in 2016, to the utter disbelief of many soccer fans. Leicester City, previously regarded as the underdog of the League, displayed extremely impressive teamwork, which led to its unbelievable victory in soccer history.
Next, teamwork means members share the workload. When work is distributed and each of us in a team specializes in specific tasks, the stress on each of us is reduced and the completion of tasks before deadline is ensured. 2 .
3 . Team members learn from more experienced members who may offer deeper insights and perspectives. Newer members may also contribute new ideas. Besides encouraging the sharing of knowledge and experiences, teamwork also develops soft skills like communication and interpersonal skills. 4 .
Some may think that working in isolation (单独) is more efficient since more time is taken when cooperating with others. For more talented individuals, working alone means being the star of a project. 5 . But, the loss of synergy (协同作用) that only team effort can generate may also prevent the team from reaching its full potential.
A.Take Leicester City for example
B.Thus we can expect greater job satisfaction
C.Team members can also be divided in opinions
D.They don’t need to share the success with others
E.Let’s not wave away the chance to work in teams
F.And finally working in a team multiplies learning opportunities
G.We learn to respect differences in working styles and opinions, and develop trust

E.More recently, boxing has become the mainstream in the UK.
F.But the high physical demands of the sport aren’t just good for the body.
G.It promotes self- defense skills, helping build confidence to protect oneself.
【答案】1.E 2.A 3.F 4.B 5.C
【导语】本文是说明文。文章主要围绕“拳击”这一主题,从多个角度(身体、心理、社交等)介绍了拳击的好处,并辅以专家观点和具体描述来增强说服力。
1.由上文“Boxing has been practiced for centuries— it was even one of the sports in the original Olympic Games in ancient Greece. (拳击运动已经有几个世纪的历史了,它甚至是古希腊奥运会的比赛项目之一。)”可知,前一句提到拳击已经存在了几个世纪,甚至是古希腊奥运会中的一项运动,接下来需要描述拳击在现代的普及情况。E选项提到“More recently, boxing has become the mainstream in the UK. (最近,拳击已经成为英国的主流运动。)”与前文形成了对比,能承接上文,符合题意。故选E项。
2.根据前文“Its physical benefits are clear. Whether it’s practicing with a punching (拳打) bag, training with a partner or facing an opponent in the ring, boxing can be an intense form of exercise and give a full- body workout. (它对身体的好处是显而易见的。无论是用沙袋练习,与伙伴一起训练还是在拳击场上面对对手,拳击都是一种激烈的运动形式,可以锻炼全身。)”可知,此处在讲述拳击对身体的好处,所以A项“It can improve muscular strength. (它可以增强肌肉力量。)”符合本段主题,并和后文“And it can also increase anaerobic (无氧的) fitness— allowing someone to work out harder, for longer. (它还可以提高无氧适应性 —— 让人们锻炼得更努力、更持久)”构成并列关系。故选A项。
3.设空位于段首,为本段中心句,根据后文“Boxing can also positively impact someone’s mental well- being. (英国开放大学体育与健身高级讲师杰西卡·平奇贝克博士说,拳击可以缓解一些焦虑和抑郁的症状。众所周知,经常锻炼对心理健康有益,但拳击也能带来自律感和专注感。)”可知,本段主要讲述拳击对心理健康的好处,所以F项“But the high physical demands of the sport aren’t just good for the body. (但是这项运动对身体的高要求不仅仅对身体有好处。)”符合本段主题,和上文构成转折关系,并引出下文。故选F项。
4.根据前文“Practicing punches can be done alone, of course. (当然,练习出拳可以独自完成。)”以及后文“It also involves working with others to train and stay safe. (它还包括与其他人一起训练和保持安全。)”可知,B项“But boxing is not just an individual activity. (但是拳击不仅仅是个人的运动。)”和前文构成转折关系,并引出下文,符合文意。故选B项。
5.设空位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“It also involves working with others to train and stay safe.

【答案】1.F 2.A 3.D 4.G 5.E

3.G选项“You avoid being the center of attention and wish you could shrink into the walls.(你避免成为众人瞩目的焦点,希望自己能缩进墙里。)”是羞耻感的一个明显表现,即想要逃避他人的注意,与前文的“There are many signs that you are experiencing shame.(有很多迹象表明你正在经历羞耻感。)”相呼应。故选G项。

1.空前“Do you feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or uninterested in life lately? (有一些有效的方法可以处理这些感觉,重新控制你的生活。)”引出了有些方法可以处理这些感觉,说明人会有空前所说的不知所措、沮丧或对生活失去兴趣的感觉,B选项“If you do, know that you’re not alone. (如果你是这样的,要知道你并不孤单。)”说明不光你,还有其他人会有空前所描述的那些感觉,因此B选项承上启下,符合语境,故选B。

【答案】1.E 2.C 3.B 4.G 5.F
【导语】本文是说明文。文章讲述了警察为什么被称为cops的由来。
1.根据下文“Some argue the term is shortened from “copper” and comes from copper badges (徽章) worn by a policeman. Others say that it stands for “Constabulary of Police”.( 一些人认为这个词是“copper”的缩写,来自警察佩戴的铜徽章。也有人说它代表“警察总队”。)”可知,关于“cop”这个昵称的起源存在争议。因此推断E项“但这个绰号的起源却存在争议。”符合语境。故选E。
2.根据上文“General agreement on the word origins of “cop”, however, suggests that the term is based more on the policeman’s job than on his clothing or job title. In Latin, the verb capere can be defined as “to capture.” In French, the verb is caper. “To cop” in English is to seize or to take.( 然而,关于“cop”一词起源的普遍共识表明,这个词更多地是基于警察的工作,而不是他的服装或头衔。在拉丁语中,动词capere可以被定义为“捕获”。在法语中,动词是caper。“To cop”在英语中的意思是抓住或拿走。)”可知,在不同的语言中有不同的词定义了警察的部分工作,因此推断C项“这些词定义了警察的部分工作”总结上文,these words指代前文的词汇。故选C。
3.根据上文“Essentially, the police force was there to take criminals off the streets.( Some also believe that the Dutch word kapen, which also loosely translates to “to steal or take”, is related to policemen being called coppers or cops.(一些人还认为,荷兰语kapen也可以粗略地翻译为“偷窃或拿走”,与警察被称为coppers或cops有关。从本质上讲,警察的存在是为了把罪犯赶出街头。)”和下文“And since American English especially draws from German, French, and Latin, the specific language origin of kapen or capere creates a ready path to the term “cop”.(由于美式英语主要来源于德语、法语和拉丁语,kapen或capere的特定语言来源为“cop”一词创造了一条现成的路径。)”可知,荷兰语kapen可以粗略地翻译为“偷窃或拿走”,与警察被称为coppers或cops有关,美式英语来自德语,法语和拉丁语,因此推断B项“荷兰语和法语的术语都很相似”承上启下。故选B。
4.根据下文“And it is no longer considered rude.(它不再被认为是粗鲁的。)”可知,现在称警察为cops不粗鲁,是合适的。因此推断G项“今天,把警察称为cop是恰当的。”符合语境,下文是对此的详细解释。故选G。
5.根据上文“The term “cop” is in such common usage now that a show documenting their work on the job is called Cops. Even though J. Edgar Hoover once highly objected to the term, it is now fine to refer to a policeman or a police woman as a cop.(“cop”这个词现在被如此普遍地使用,以至于一个记录他们工作的节目被称为“Cops”。尽管J·埃德加·胡佛曾经强烈反对这个词,但现在把警察或女警察称为cop是可以的。)”可知,现在称呼a policeman或者 a police woman是最好的,与前一段是转折关系,因此推断F项“然而,“police officer”这个术语通常是最正确的”。故选F。
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.F 4.G 5.D
