一、阅读理解
① Sixty-eight cultural relics (文物) that were recently returned to China were warmly welcomed by Chinese people.
② The relics, which were smuggled (走私) to the United Kingdom in the past, arrived in Beijing on Oct 20. These relics include a number of fine works of art such as plates and teacups. Dating back to a time lasting from the Spring and Autumn Period to the Qing Dynasty (朝代), they come from many different provinces, including Fujian, Hebei and Guizhou.
③ Back in 1995, British police found these relies while investigating (调查) an international relic-smuggling group. After learning of the discovery, China set up a special working group to bring the items home.
④ However, a local buyer of the relics didn’t agree to return them, so British police held the relics for 25 years. But communication between the Chinese and British governments never stopped.
⑤ In January, the British police told China that the local buyer was missing and that the relics therefore had no owner. The UK offered to return the relics to China, Global Times noted.
⑥ In the history, it has not been easy to fight the crime of cultural relic smuggling, but this time it was successful. The return is a successful example of cooperation (合作) between China and the UK in fighting cultural relic smuggling under the 1970 Convention (公约) which requires its members to take action to protect relics.
⑦ Not only is the 1970 Convention helping cultural relics return to their countries, China is also taking action. Over the past 20 years, China has worked to protect and recover cultural relics. In recent years, it has become more common for people to purchase cultural relics and give them to museums for free. For example, a famous Chinese businessman Stanley Ho purchased Qing Dynasty bronze statues in 2003 and 2007 and then donated them to the National Museum of China.

In the past, if doctors wanted to learn about the human body, they don’t have many choices: studying from books, or doing research on animals or plants. Well, time has changed. Now, there’s something new called 3D printing, and it’s making big changes in how doctors learn.
Last year, a research team from the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences invented hydrogel (水凝胶), a new material for 3D printing. As the “ink” for printing, hydrogel has helped the research team create 3D printed organs (器官), including the brain and heart. People found it hard to print the complex structures inside human organs before. It’s also hard to control the organs’ hardness (硬度). Luckily, this team has managed to make meaningful progress in these two aspects. ▲ . A doctor who tried these models said that he wouldn’t know they were not real if he was not told.
On the other hand, the research team had another problem to solve. Human organs have different textures (质地). For example, our brains are the softest. The team added special material to the hydrogel to create different textures for each organ. They also printed tiny holes and channels (通道) inside the organs. This will help medical students learn better. Compared to human organs and animal organs, 3D printed organs are also cheaper and more acceptable for medical students.
Apart from doing research, scientists are also working on 3D printed organs used in organ transplants (移植). Hydrogel cannot be used because the human body will fight against it. But scientists are looking for other materials that can grow inside the human body. Currently, a bladder (膀胱) has been successfully transplanted using 3D printing because it’s one of the simplest organs. Experts expect that this technology will help more patients within a few years, according to CNN.
1.Why is 3D printing changing how doctors learn?
A.Because it allows them to practice on live animals.
B.Because it allows them to create 3D printed organs.
C.Because it allows them to study biology using their bodies.
D.Because it allows them to control the hardness of organs.
2.This chart (图表) shows how the research team made the printed organs close to the real one. Which is the missing part?
A.Scientists added special materials to control the 3D printed organ’s texture.
B.Scientists asked doctors for their opinions.
C.Scientists helped medical students to learn animal organs.
D.Scientists added more things after the organs are printed.
3.Which sentence can be put in ▲ ?
A.Scientists think hydrogel is not good enough.
B.The printed organs are very close to real organs.
C.The research team wants to grow new organs from old ones.
D.Doctors will use 3D printed organs on animals.
4.What can you infer from the passage?
A.Humans can live longer because of 3D printed organs.
B.3D printed organs can help medical students learn better.
C.More 3D printed organs can be transplanted in the future.
D.3D printed organs can work better than human organs.
Whether we’re young or old, rich or poor, we have one thing in common: The moon has always looked down at each of us when it lights up the night sky.
Just like a mirror, the moon reflects the sun’s light. It can also reflect people’s feelings. This is probably why the moon is always popular among Western and Chinese music, poems (诗歌) and other forms of literature. So when we look at the moon, what exactly do we see looking back at us?
Well, that depends on who’s looking.
The ancient Greek poet (诗人) Sappho, for example, saw the moon as a woman who lit up space with her beauty.
Later in England, however, the moon’s image (形象) was completely different. In the Middle Ages, English people often drank to get away from difficult life. In their eyes, the moon was a man who liked drinking. In London, at least three pubs (酒馆) were named Man in the Moon. It’s probably because the bright moon at night looks like a man’s red face after drinking. A popular song sung in pubs at that time even went, “Our man in the moon drinks wine…”
The moon is also a popular subject in Chinese poems. Chinese Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai’s Quiet Night Thoughts reads, “Up towards the glorious moon I raise my head, then lay me down and thoughts of home arise.” Similarly, Zhang liuling wrote in another poem, “Looking at the moon and thinking of one far away.” So in Chinese culture, when people look at the moon, they may miss their hometown and someone. Very interesting, right?
1.Which phenomenon (现象) does the underlined sentence show?
A. B. C. D.
2.What does the moon probably stand for in ancient Greece?
A.A beautiful woman. B.The hometown.
C.A wine- loving man. D.The person who you miss.
3.Why were the pubs named Man in the Moon in London during the Middle Ages?
A.Because people believed that a man lived on the moon.
B.Because people liked looking up at the moon while drinking.
C.Because people wanted to get away from their difficult life to the moon.
D.Because people thought the bright moon looked like a man’s red face after drinking.
4.What does the text mainly talk about?
A.The further study on the moon.
B.The moon’s images in different cultures.
C.Different ways to praise (赞美) the moon around the world.
D.The relationship between the moon and people in different times.
Facial recognition technology (人脸识别技术) is widely used today. For example, police use it to search for bad guys. It’s also used to unlock phones, open doors or make quick payments. Even when people wear masks, they can be recognized. Now, a similar technology, known as facial detection (探测), is entering a new field: the business of advertising.
Such systems are going through tests in a small number of stores. One facial detection system can judge (判断) a person’s “happiness” or “fear” level. That helps businesses see how people feel as they look at products or advertisements in the store. Another system can detect whether someone is wearing eyeglasses. If so, stores can send advertisements for new glasses to him.
Facial detection technology is also placed inside some large advertising boards. Cameras in those boards can detect information like people’s ages and five levels of feelings from “very happy” to “very unhappy”.
Supporters of the technology say it could improve buyers’ experience by showing products they might like or by offering them products at lower prices.
Some are against the idea of using such systems. Pam Dixon, head of a privacy (隐私) group, is one of them. She thinks ______. For example, a business could raise the price of a product according to a person’s age and feelings. However, one store testing the technology explained they wouldn’t store people’s information like names or ages. And the advertising board system maker said it didn’t keep any personal information or record any videos.
1.What does the underlined word “they” refer to?
A.Supporters. B.Prices. C.Products. D.Buyers.

Scientists have put human brain cells (细胞) into the brains of baby rats, where the cells grew and formed connections. The research is part of an effort to study human brain development and diseases influencing the brain.
Scientists put human brain cells into baby rats that were two to three days old. Pasca, a professor at the Stanford School of Medicine, said this is the first time these cells have been placed into their brains of baby rats. At that age, brain connections are still forming. The cells grew so that they took up a third of the rat’s brain. Neurons (神经元) from the cells formed working connections with the brain.
To test how the idea might be useful for studying human health, scientists put human brain cells into both sides of a rat’s brain. One side had cells created from a healthy person and the other side had cells of a person with Timothy syndrome (蒂莫西综合症). Five to six months later (信号), they saw the influence of the disease in the activity of neurons. The neurons from the person with Timothy syndrome were much smaller and did not grow too much to pick up signals from nearby neurons.
The researchers said they could do the same kinds of experiments (实验) using the cells of people with disorders (疾病) such as autism (自闭症). Such studies could help them learn new things about how these diseases influence the brain.
Dr Flora Vaccarino of Yale University said the study moves the field forward. “What they do here is very valuable (有价值的). It can help us better understand human brain development,” said Vaccarino, who was not in the study.

①Confucius is a master of thinking. He came up with many great ideas. But what’s the most well-known and influential one? That may be the idea of the golden mean. Have you heard of it? Do you know its real meaning? According to Zhongyong, the golden mean is an interesting topic. In Confucianism (儒家思想), it is seen as an important virtue (品德). Confucius speaks highly of it.
②However, it is easily misunderstood. People often think it means not working hard or pursuing (追求) perfection. The key point of the golden mean is to keep balance (平衡), neither too little nor too much. The character “Zhong” means to be moderate in one’s words and behaviors. “Yong” has two meanings—being common and unchanging. This way of thinking is useful in our daily life.
③For example, when we write a story, we shouldn’t use too many fancy (华丽的) words. But it doesn’t mean we can’t use any beautiful language in the story.
④Also, when we are exercising, we can’t do too much every time or we might get hurt. But it doesn’t mean we should never exercise. The key is to walk a fine line.
⑤This kind of thinking makes a difference to our life. The golden mean is always being praised by our nation. President Xi Jinping said we should respect cultural diversity (多样性). We should be confident but not too arrogant (自负的) in cultural exchanges.
1.How does the writer lead into the topic in the first paragraph?
A.By giving examples. B.By raising questions.

You know, the Chinese high-speed rails are very famous for the scales(规模). There are twice as many high-speed trains in China as the rest of the world. Cities like Beijing have several hundred high-speed trains stopping at the city every day, much more than any other big cities abroad. And every year when the Chinese Spring Festival comes, about 3 billion trips take place(发生) within 2 weeks. It would be the same as every American taking 10 trips during Christmas, or every European taking 5 trips during Christmas. All the train tickets are gone within 10 seconds once they can be bought online.
The high-speed trains are really great. Firstly, China’s trains are based on(以……为基础) Japanese, German and French models. Then, the scale of Chinese high-speed train is unthinkable to other countries, which has high-speed train network(网络).
I had my first chance to ride the high-speed trains last week when I had a meeting in Hangzhou. The train was really amazing. It is clean and the seats are very comfortable. You can’t even feel how fast the train is moving. If there were no windows, I wouldn’t be able to tell when we were stopped or when we were raveling at 300 km/h. I had traveled on an Amtrak train before in the US, and hated how slow it was and how many stops there were. Chinese high-speed trains are of great difference.
I’m traveling again this week by train and I’m excited.

Do you like traditional Chinese operas(戏剧)? Among all traditional Chinese operas, facial mask(脸谱) in Peking Opera is popular around the world. Different colors are used to show different roles, but at first, only three colors were used: red, white and black. Here are the meanings of them.
Red is generally used to show that a role is honest and loyal. In fact, the color red was just to show what a person looks like in the beginning. Because many roles use red and black to show they’re very brave and honest, red gradually has another meaning. An example of “red full face” is Guan Yu, known for his loyalty to Liu Bei.
The role with the white face is bad in human nature. This kind of roles includes Cao Cao in the time of the Three Kingdoms, and Qin Hui, who put the national hero Yue Fei to death. The black mask shows either a rude and brave person or a fair and selfless one. Li Kui of Water Margin, and Bao Zheng are of this kind.
Later, other colors are gradually added to them, such as yellow standing for bravery, blue for someone with a strong personality. People can clearly tell the difference through these colors.
Nowadays, more and more young people like to know Peking Opera. Even some schools start to teach Peking Opera. And more and more people know that different colors mean different things. It is a good way to study and spread our traditional culture.

Temperature Goes Up Underground
①As climate change brings dangers to people, we are now facing another problem—underground climate change.
②With the development of cities, the rising underground temperature is causing the ground to heat up and deform(变形), reported by a study team from Northwestern University. In the last three years, the team had put more than 150 temperature sensors(感应器)under Chicago. The temperatures they recorded were surprising. For example, the team created computer models to see how temperatures will influence the ground until 2051.
③The models showed, when heated, the ground may go up by as much as 1.2 centimeters, or go down by as much as 0.8 centimeters. This may even cause the ground to break up, leaving people who live and work above in dangerous situations.
④However, Rotta Loria, who led the study, said in a report, “It takes a long time to see the bad effects.” As scientists have already known a lot about underground climate change, future plans for cities should be considered. Materials that take in heat can be used to keep the heat from entering the ground.
⑤The team also pointed out that the rising temperature could be seen as an opportunity. City planners can try to collect heat underground and send it above for heating.

C.The underground temperature has risen to 25℃.
D.The rising underground temperature is causing the ground to heat up.
4.Which is the best structure of this passage?
A. B. C. D.
Double Ninth Festival is also called Chongyang Festival. It is a day for people to climb mountains, drink chrysanthemum (菊花) wine and eat Chongyang cake.
A famous poem about this festival by Wang Wei in the Tang Dynasty described the scene and feeling of mountain climbing. It says, “Alone, a lonely stranger in a foreign land, I doubly pine for kinsfolk on a holiday. I know my brothers would, with dogwood spray in hand, climb up mountain and miss me so far away”. Now, family members or good friends get together to climb mountains to enjoy the beautiful scenery and share happiness of the holiday with each other.
Chrysanthemums are in full bloom (盛开) during the festival, so it is a pleasure to enjoy big chrysanthemum shows. People always admire chrysanthemums with family on that day. And they think that by drinking chrysanthemum wine, all kinds of diseases and disasters can be driven away.
Chongyang cake is a kind of steamed cake which has two floors with nuts (坚果) and red dates (枣) put between them. Since cake in Chinese is pronounced “gao” which means high, personal progress is thought to be made in the following days after people eat the cake.
As nine is pronounced “jiu” meaning long in Chinese, so the number nine is given the meaning of long life. And in 1989, Double Ninth Festival was set as Senior’s Day—a day to respect the elderly and to let them enjoy themselves.

When you think of seafood, which place will come to your mind? Qingdao, Xiamen or Weihai? But you may never think of Xinjiang for sure. Recently, fishery products produced in Xinjiang have become popular, especially after Japan put nuclear-contaminated water (核污染水) into the sea.
In Nilka County in Xinjiang, about 6,000 tons of rainbow trout, a kind of fish, will be produced this year. Rainbow trout belongs to the same family as salmon, which is a kind of well-known seafood. It tastes like salmon too.
Why do farmers there choose to grow fish? The weather in some parts of Xinjiang is seldom hot, and the rivers are fed by meltwater (融水) from the Tianshan Mountains. Water deeper than 6 meters always stays at 10℃. As the meltwater is very clean and cold, it’s a “comfortable” home for fish, Li Chunyu, a worker at a fish company said.
To make sure the river stays clean, the company uses machines to clean fish waste in the water. They also use net cage (网箱) that are good for the environment. The nets are about 51 meters wide and lie 25 meters deep in the river.
Meanwhile, in Xinjiang, whiteleg shrimp, another kind of fish, can also grow well. Saline soil (盐碱土) covers a large part of the desert where few plants are able to grow. Farmers used to put water from the Yellow River onto the farmland to wash away the salt. This was a waste of salty water.
Scientists then decided to create “seawater” with the salty water by adding in some other chemicals (化学物质). Whiteleg shrimps can live well in this kind of water. They taste no different from the same kind of shrimp that grows in the sea.
Thanks to the rich natural resources (资源) in Xinjiang and the wisdom of the scientists, salmon, shrimps and many other kinds of “seafood” can become a delicacy (佳肴) on the dining tables not only in Xinjiang homes, but also across the nation, which protects us from nuclear-contaminated water at the same time.

Microbes (微生物) help us do lots of things here on Earth. They can make bread rise and cure infections (感染), among many other things. Researchers have done lots of experiments with microbes in space and their latest findings show that these microbes could help us explore more of our universe.
Last summer, the European Space Agency did an experiment called BioRock on the Iternational Space Station. In this experiment, three species (物种) of bacteria (细菌) were tested on their ability to pull rare earth elements (REEs) out of rocks in three types of gravity (重力) —normal Earth gravity, Mars gravity and microgravity.
This method of using microbes to extract resources (提取资源) from rocks is known as “biomining” (生物采矿). We’ve been doing it for some time here on Earth, mainly to extract copper (铜) and gold. But would it work in space or on another planet?
The results were encouraging. Of the three species, one in particular was able to pull 14 types of REEs out of rocks in all three types of gravity. The rocks used in the experiment were made of basalt (玄武岩)—a type of rock that is commonly found on Earth, Mars and the moon.
While the findings might be interesting on their own, how can they help us explore space? For one thing, space exploration in the future will require us to find resources on the moon and Mars that we can use to continue our exploration efforts. Biomining can help us do this cheaply and easily.

Many parents set rules for their children’s online activity, such as limiting the amount of time they can spend online. But some children in the US and UK are saying that they’d like to make rules for parents, too. They mainly complain that their parents share too many photos of them online.
In a 2016 study, it was found that parents in the US share an average of 116 photos of their kids after they are born. Most were taken before the child turned 8 years old. Many of the photos showed kids in embarrassing situations, like having food all over their faces.
Parents like to share their child’s progress as he or she grows up. However, their kids don’t like it as much. In a survey of UK children between the ages of 12 and 16,70% said they felt their parents didn’t respect their online privacy (隐私).
In addition, many kids said that other students at school sometimes pick on (捉弄) them after their parents post photos online. In one case (欺负) by boys at school after they found her mom’s blog, which had many family photos.

03 阅读理解20篇(重庆期中真题)解析版
