Most people think of racing when they see greyhounds (灰狗) and believe they need lots of exercise. They can actually be quite lazy! Greyhounds are good at fast races but not long - distance running. They do need regular exercise but they like to run for a short burst and then get back on the bed or a comfortable seat. Another misunderstanding is that greyhounds must be aggressive (好斗的) because they are big in size. In fact greyhounds love people and are gentle with children.
Greyhounds can live for 12 —14 years but usually only race for two or three years, and after that they make great pets. They don’t need a lot of space, don’t make a lot of noise, and don’t eat a lot for their size.
Normally, greyhounds can be as tall as 90 cm. There is, however, a small-sized greyhound, which stands only 33cm. Greyhounds come in a variety of colors. Grey and yellowish-brown are the most common. Others include black, white, blue, red and brown or a mix of these.
Greyhounds have smooth body coats, low body fat and are very healthy. Because they’re slim (苗条的) they don’t have the leg problems like other dogs the same height. But they do feel the cold, especially since they would much rather be at home in bed than walking around outside.
40. The text is written mainly .
A. to tell people how to raise greyhounds
B. to let people know more about greyhounds
C. to explain why greyhounds are aggressive
D. to describe greyhounds of different colors
41. Why does the author say that greyhounds make great pets?
A. They are big in size.
B. They live a very long life.
C. They can run races for some time.
D They are quiet and easy to look after.
42. If you keep a pet greyhound, it is important .
A. to keep it slim
B. to keep it warm
C. to take special care of its legs
D. to take it to animal doctors regularly

“Who made your T-shirt?”A Georgetown University student raised that question. Pieta Ravioli, a professor of business, wanted to find the answer. A few weeks later, she bought a T-shirt and began to follow its path from Texas cotton farm to Chinese factory to charity bin The result is an interesting new book, The Travels of a T-shirt in the Global Economy (经济).
Following a T-shirt around the world is a way to make her point more interesting, but it also frees Ravioli from the usual arguments over global trade. She goes wherever the T-shirt goes, and there are surprises around every corner. In China, Ravioli shows why a clothing factory, even with its poor conditions, means a step toward a better: are for the people who work there. In the colorful used-clothing markets of Tanzania, she realizes that, “it is only in this final stage of life that the T-shirt will meet a real market,” where the price of a T-shirt changes by the hour and is different by its size and even color. Ravioli’s book is full of memorable people and scenes, like the noise, the bad air and the “muddy-sweet smell (泥土香味) of the cotton.” She says,“ Here in the factory, Shanghai smells like Shallowater, Texas.”
Ravioli is at her best when making those sorts of unexpected connections. She even finds one between the free traders and those who are against globalization. The chances opened up by trade are vast, she argues, but free markets need the correcting force of politics to keep them in check. True economic progress needs them both.
43. What do we learn about Professor Ravioli?
A. She used to work on a cotton farm.
B. She wrote a book about world trade.
C She wants to give up her teaching job.
D. She wears a T-shirt wherever she goes.
44. By saying T-shirt “meet a real market”, Ravioli means in Tanzania ______.
A. cheaper T-shirt are needed.
B. used T-shirt are hard to sell
C prices of T-shirt rise and fall frequently
D. prices of T-shirt are usually reasonable
45. What does the word “them” underlined in the last paragraph refer to?
A. Free-markets.
B. Price changes.
C. Unexpected connection.
D. chances opened up by trade.
A Dutch company has developed technology to follow the movements and activities of cows. The high-tech system, powered by AI and motion sensors (运动传感器), is called “The Intelligent Dairy Farmer’s Assistant”. The company, Connecterra, developed the system in the United States in December 2017 after several years of testing and operations in Europe.
A device (设备) is put around the neck of the cow to record its movements. The information is then collected by a computer that uses AI to learn about the animal’s behavior over time. The system can tell farmers what the cow is doing in real time. This information can help predict when cows get sick or become less productive.
Richard Watson owns the Seven Oaks Dairy in Waynesboro, Georgia. He is one of the first American farmers to use the high-tech system. “It can pick up whether the cow is eating, whether it is walking, whether it is drinking, whether it is running or standing up.” Watson said the system was a big help because it was impossible for farmers to keep up with the activities of each cow individually (个别地). He added that having a computer show which of his 2,000 cows need attention could help improve farm productivity by up to 10 percent. He says this difference could greatly increase his profits.
The leader of Connecterra, Yasir Khokhar, says the idea for the system came while he was living on a farm south of Amsterdam. He says modern agriculture greatly needs new technology like this. The company says information about the cows can be collected and seen on a smartphone or other mobile devices. He says he will see the technology being used in many large farming systems if it continues to be successful over time.

D. They are quiet and easy to look after.

C. She wants to give up her teaching job.
D. She wears a T-shirt wherever she goes.
44. By saying T-shirt “meet a real market”, Ravioli means in Tanzania ______.
A. cheaper T-shirt are needed.
B. used T-shirt are hard to sell
C. prices of T-shirt rise and fall frequently
D. prices of T-shirt are usually reasonable
45. What does the word “them” underlined in the last paragraph refer to?
A. Free-markets.
B. Price changes.
C. Unexpected connection.
D. chances opened up by trade.
B 44. C 45. A

根据最后一段“Ravioli is at her best when making those sorts of unexpected connections. She even finds one between the free traders and those who are against globalization. The chances opened up by trade are vast, she argues, but free markets need the correcting force of politics to keep them in check. True economic progress needs them both. (拉维奥利在建立那些意想不到的联系时表现得最为出色。她甚至发现了自由贸易者和反对全球化的人之间的某种联系。她认为,贸易开辟的机会是巨大的,但自由市场需要政治的纠正力量来控制them。真正的经济发展需要两者并存)”可知,自由市场需要政治力量作为调节力来加以控制,真正的经济发展需要自由市场和政治力量两者并存,“them”指的是前一句中的“自由市场”。故选A。
Richard Watson owns the Seven Oaks Dairy in Waynesboro Georgia.
46. What can the system tell farmers? (no more than 10 words)
__________________________________________________________
47. Why did Richard Watson say the system was a big help? (no more than 15 words)

48. What does the underlined word “profits” in Paragraph 3 mean? (no more than 5 words)
__________________________________________________________
49. When did Yasir Khokhar come up with the idea of the system? (no more than 10 words)

50. What do you think of the system on the farm? Explain your reasons. (no more than 20 words)
__________________________________________________________
46. What the cow is doing in real time.
47. Because it helped farmers to keep up with the activities of each cow.

根据最后一段中“The leader of Connecterra, Yasir Khokhar, says the idea for the system came while he was living on a farm south of Amsterdam. (Connecterra的领导人Yasir Khokhar说,这个系统的想法是他住在阿姆斯特丹南部的一个农场时产生的)”可知,Yasir Khokhar住在阿姆斯特丹南部的一个农场时产生了这个想法。故答案为While he was living on a farm south of Amsterdam.
I think it is smart and useful, because it can help the farmers manage their cows’ health.
