Unit 2 Bridging Cultures Period 1 Reading and Thinking 教材分析 本单元阅读文本详实报导了中国商科学生谢蕾作为英国伦敦某大学交换生在半年学习期间的所遇所学所为,尤其是她在适应英国文化的同时积极传播中国文化的行为,旨在引导学生了解英国文化,尊重不同文化的价值,理解文化传播的重要性,感受多元文化交融对个体成长所起的促进作用,从而帮助学生树立国际视野。 该文本为新闻报故事。全文共八段,篇章结构为“背景介绍—生活适应—学习适应—当下现状—表达祝愿”:第一、二段介绍了谢蕾的背景信息,第三、四段描述了谢蕾因生活差异所做的适应调整,第五、六段描述了谢蕾因学习方式差异所做的适应调整,第七段描述了谢蕾的现状,第八段为作者对谢蕾表达的美好祝愿。也可以在此基础上将全文分为三部分:第一部分包括第一、二段,介绍谢蕾背景信息;第二部分从第三段到第七段,描述谢蕾遇到的各种调整及其适应;第三部分为第八段。 学情分析 活动主题是 “阅读交换学生 Xie Lei的留学经历” (Read about Xie Lei's experience on an exchange programme) Xie Lei的学习和生活经历反映了大多数留学生初到国外时的真实体验,他们身处陌生的环境,难免遇到各种各样的困难;由于语言和文化背景等方面的差异,他们在跨文化交际过程中会有沟通不畅的情况,有时甚至会造成误解。留学生遇到问题后经常会陷入茫然和不知所措中,甚至产生焦虑和恐慌。这种在进入一个完全陌生的文化环境后表现岀的一系列不适应的反应叫作文化冲击(culture shock ) 当然,整个文化适应过程中的心理状态是一条U形曲线,正如文章中叙述的那样,留学生经历文化冲击的不适达到最低点后往往会迎来微妙的拐点,随之产生应激反应,开始接纳新的环境,尝试调整自己的行为,最终成为新环境中如鱼得水的一员。留学生在此过程中感受不同文化碰撞产生的新奇感和危机感,对自己、对生活有了新的认识,在不断适应的过程中获得成长。 教学目标 1. predict the content according to the title and analyze the genre as well as structure of a passage. 2. learn about Xie Lei’s experience of learning abroad in Britain. 3. discuss the special identity of overseas students and their function in cross-culture communication. 4. learn how to handle the challenges they would meet in cross-culture communication. 教学重难点 教学重点: Summarize the two clues of the text and use it to understand the information organization. 教学难点: 1. Lead students to explore the reasons behind the events and sort out the emotional and logical lines. 2.  Encourage students to analyse the structures of the passage. 3. The quotation from Mary Anne Radmacher on the title page is shared and students are invited to voice their separate understanding.  Q: At the beginning of today’s class, let me share with you a quotation from Mary Anne Radmacher, “I am not the same, having seen the moon shine on the other side of the world. ” How do you understand it? 热身活动旨在创设情境使学生在分享想法的同时感知不同文化能带来一定的变化,同时激发学生思维,为课堂积极主动学习营造氛围。 (预测课文) Activity 2: Predicting the content logically.  Students are invited to read the title together and then predict what might be written about in the passage according to the title and the picture beside it.  Q: What might be written in the passage according to the title and the picture? ❶ Xie Lei must have gone to another country because someone says “Welcome, Xie Lei” to her.  ❷ As a business student, Xie Lei might be building some kind of bridges. 预测活动旨在培养学生阅读文字与图片信息的能力以及依据信息进行逻辑预测的能力。活动必须摒弃无理由预测行为,对此行为,教师需适当纠正。 (泛读略读) Activity3: Scanning the passage for the keys. Read Para. 3-6 and Para. 3-6 and fill in the table. Xie Lei’s Challenges and solutions! Draw a graph to show the change of her feeling from the beginning until now. The best way to prepare is to try to immerse themselves in English before they go abroad. They should watch a variety of English-language films and TV programmes without using subtitles, listen to English songs, and use every opportunity to speak with native English speakers. Locals, however, will generally be understanding that the student is new to the country, and will appreciate attempts to learn and understand more about their culture.
