Mélissa LambertTenasco attended the first show and is now a big fan.“Laughter is big in our communities,” she says, “and it was really nice to laugh with a group of Native people.” And while the show is “for our people, with our people,” Niles also wants “Got Land?” to help increase Canadians' general knowledge about Indigenous culture.“It's a safe environment for us not only to get along with each other, exchange laughs and get some knowledge,” she says, “but also to tell some unpleasant truths.”
Niles says her next step is to bring Indigenous comedy into the mainstream (主流).She wants to see Indigenous comedians share the stage next to big stars like Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr. Her own comedy dream is to be featured on “Just for Laughs”.“With ‘Got Land?’,I'm trying to pull everyone together,” says Niles.“As I make my way through comedy, I want to bring everyone with me.”

Mom and I walked side by side through the town.I was twelve years old, and dependent on her.She raised me by herself, and except for when I was at school, we were almost always together.
She was a nurse, but after my birth she quit her job to care for me.It was said that she was once one of the best nurses in a big local hospital.Recently she had returned to work there. She said she wanted to spend more time being with me, but she couldn't.
I didn't like her going back to work. She left at 5:45 a.m., which made me responsible for waking myself up, fixing breakfast and walking to the 7:30 a.m. bus.
I hated being left home alone in the mornings, but I especially hated having to take the bus.Once I had missed it, I wasn't only late to school, but I had also caused Mom to scramble to find someone else to drive me.After that, I was so worried about missing the bus that I left for the bus stop too early every day.I stood by myself before the other kids arrived, in wind, rain and snow, having to bear the embarrassment when crowded by adult passengers sometimes.
Mom worked the day shift so she could pick me up after school.Every time she didn't go to the hospital, she would drive me both ways. Those were the best days.
On such a day, as we walked on the sidewalk, I saw an old man coming close to us.When he saw us, he suddenly showed a wide smile, but I didn't recognize him.“Leigh! Leigh!” he said, calling my mother's name.My mother also greeted him cheerfully. He asked me whether I was the daughter of my mom.I said “yes”.I didn't know him and just looked at him, unsure of my role.“Well, it is very nice to meet you, young lady.I hope you know how lucky you are!” he said.
Not knowing why he said so, I looked at him uncertainly.
Mom said there was no need to thank her, but the man insisted.

W:If he is in, his key will be here. Yes, sir. Room 202. He is in his room.Would you like to ring up first, sir?
(Text 5)
M:Why don't you and Ervin join us for dinner tonight? The five of us haven't gone out together for a long time.
W:Ervin says it's always too noisy to enjoy the meal at nightclubs.
M:Shall we go somewhere quiet?
(Text 6)
M:Could you take this down to the accounting office for me, please?
W:Sure, Mr Stone. I was just on my way down to the shipping department which is on the 5th floor, anyway. The accounting office is just one floor above it, so it's right on the way.
M:Great. Maybe when you get back, I could take you to the Thai restaurant you're always telling me about.
(Text 7)
W:What did you think of the speech by Professor Green yesterday afternoon?
M:I thought it was long and boring. I left the lecture hall before the speech ended.
W:Where did you go then?
M:I went to the library and borrowed some books and then read some magazines in the reading room. Did you stay in the lecture hall all afternoon?
W:Yes. Another three professors gave speeches besides Mr Green.
M:How about their speeches?
W:I thought all the speeches were interesting and meaningful. I think I learned a lot from them. I really think you shouldn't have left the lecture hall before the speeches ended.
(Text 8)
M:Hello. Could I speak to Mr Smith's secretary, please?
W:Yes. It's Mr Smith's secretary speaking.
M:Oh, hello, this is Mr Green's Service in London.
W:What can I do for you?
M:Well, my boss Mr Green is coming out to Tokyo in the first week of December and I want to check whether you know he is coming.
W:I did already know about it. He's coming for the conference.
M:That's right, and he would really like to take up Mr Smith's offer to visit the factory.
W:When would it suit Mr Green? The conference will be running from Tuesday to Thursday.
M:Er, well, either Monday or Friday would be good. Which day do you think would be better for Mr Smith?
W:Er, as far as he's concerned, Monday will be fine.
M:Oh, that's great.
(Text 9)
W:Mark is so popular. Everywhere I go, people know him. He must be a native of Chicago.
M:No, he's been here for only one year. I've been in town twice as long as he has, and it seems I only have a handful of friends.
W:That's amazing. Why is he so popular?
M:Well, it's probably his personality. He's funny, of course, but I think people like him because he is always willing to spend time with them and help others.
W:That would explain it. What about you? Why are you having trouble keeping up with Mark?
M:I don't know, but it's probably because I'm the opposite of Mark. I'm always serious. My work is busy, too, so I don't have a chance to meet many people.
W:Do you want me to throw a party to introduce you to some of my friends, John?
M:Jessica, I want to meet them, but I'm a little shy. Do you think I really need as many friends as Mark?
W:Maybe not, but don't you wish you could spend more time with other people?
M:Sometimes. But I can always go online and chat with someone, so I don't think I need to be so popular.
(Text 10)
M:Well, Monica, I'm sure you'll enjoy working here. I'm the librarian. We're open from half past eight in the morning until eight in the evening but you're not expected to be here all that time. You start working at a quarter to nine and finish at a quarter past five, OK?
Now, students aren't allowed to bring large bags into the library. But staff can bring their bags in and leave them in the office. You have an hour for lunch. But I don't like staff eating in the library. Of course you can have a cup of coffee there while you're working. If you bring sandwiches for lunch, there's a common room downstairs where you can eat them.If you want to buy lunch, I'd recommend the dining room upstairs. There are cafés in the town center but it's a bit of rush to get there and back in an hour though they're cheap. OK. Any questions?

The journey began when Ms.Dolan rented a downtown space in Woodstock, Vermont In 2013, ArtisTree's biggest development ...ten years into Ms.Dolan's long journey, ArtisTree had a location it owned.
Mrs.Frates apologized for the low attendance ...It doesn't matter if it's two or 20 people.Everybody matters just as much
More and more people came to experience the arts .
Its theater productions drew actors and performing arts fans ...a new dose of vitality (活力) it hadn't seen in many years.

选项F中的This 指的是前一句的keep the tone light。

Not knowing why he said so, I looked at him uncertainly. He didn't know my situation at all, and how could he say that? I didn't think I was lucky at all.I was unhappy with his words. The man sensed that, but just smiled and patted me on the head tenderly. He told me that when he was in hospital, helpless and alone last month, it was my mom that took the best care of him.He said Mom made every day better for him, and that he would never forget her help.
Mom said there was no need to thank her, but the man insisted.I looked into this stranger's eyes, which were filled with gratitude to Mom.I was greatly moved.Right then, I realized what it meant for my mom to be a nurse, and what it actually meant for her to be busy with her job while I was at school. She was serving, caring for, and loving unfamiliar strangers, often during some of the darkest times in their lives. It was the first time that I had understood why I stood at the bus stop every morning.
