(23-24九年级上·湖南长沙·期中)Shyness can be an unhappy feeling. What makes people shy? Scientists say such things as genetics (遗传), life experiences, and environment can influence whether a person is shy. For example, in some families, everybody seems to be shy.
How do people overcome (克服) shyness? This is what Gilbert tells us. “When I started off trying to get over being shy, I decided to do little steps at a time, including practicing smiling and saying hi to people. And it worked for me.” But shyness is not the kind of thing that most people can get over overnight. Overcoming shyness takes time and needs practice.
Here are some tips given by scientists.
Think of what to talk about before you leave home. Prepare things to talk about before you’re in a social situation. For example, if you know your classmates are interested in an upcoming event, learn about it so you can join in the conversations.
Let people know you’re shy. If you’re shy, just show it. Instead of letting people guess, tell them the truth. Explain that you are shy and feel nervous but enjoy talking to people.
Make things easy for the other person. Remember, you’re not the only shy person around. Do what you think might help others feel good—for example, say hello or smile.
Pick one social skill to practice at a time. Start simply. For example, smile or be the first person to say hi. Choose skills you feel comfortable enough with to practice for a day, a week, a month, or even a year.
1.According to the scientists, which of the following is NOT the reason that makes people shy?
A.Family relationship. B.Genetics. C.Environment.
2.The example of Gilbert in Paragraph 2 is given to ________.
A.explain the steps of overcoming shyness

4.Which of the following is the right way to overcome shyness?
A.Get ready before you join in a social situation.
B.Wait for others to say hello to you first.
C.Choose several skills to practice at a time.

The Ameca Robot is Getting Better The Ameca robot is once again making headlines. In a video released by Engineered Arts, the humanoid robot is shown engaging in conversation. For each question posed by the human participant, the robot briefly pauses before delivering a response that mixes words with proper facial expressions. Besides, this Ameca demo uses GPT3 for conversation and translation.

That was part of the point, explained Piot Mirowski, the show’s co-maker. “We do not use humans to show off Al, we use AI to show its limitations (局限性), to show human creativity on the stage.” said Mirowski.
Artificial Intelligence and Education
On October 21st, at the New Oriental Family Education Summit Forum, Yu Minhong stated that AI is not very beneficial (有益的) for children in terms of education. Robin Lee retorted (反驳): “I think this is a misunderstanding.” Yu Minhong said, anyway, if a boy writes a particularly beautiful love letter to a girl, don’t believe it was written by the boy himself, it may be written by artificial intelligence. (23-24九年级上·湖北随州·期中)Learning Chinese is a challenging but good experience as it gives you the opportunity to communicate with more than a billion people.
Foreigners think Chinese is a mysterious (神秘的) and difficult language because it is very different from the Roman alphabet (罗马字母). In fact, Chinese is not much more difficult than learning any other language. One reason is that Chinese does not require memorizing the kind of complex tenses (时态) like European languages.
Although it is certainly not easy for foreigners, in my experience you can learn Chinese fast. You will certainly find differences between the language in textbooks and people’s everyday speech. One example of this is the difference between languages on the street and written Chinese. It produces new phrases and vocabulary. In real life nowadays, people often use short, less conversational phrases to communicate with each other. China has many provinces and their dialects are different. After you learn and understand the Beijing dialect, you may find it is hard to understand Shanghai dialect.
The language continues developing. So it is still not easy for learners, no matter how well they learn from textbooks.
I hope that one day more Chinese courses are able to be connected with “real” spoken Chinese and the way in which Chinese people speak daily. It will help foreign learners to help bridge the gap between learners and native (本土的) speakers.

A.Chinese is more difficult to learn than any other language.
B.People often use long sentences in the real life nowadays.
C.The development of language is still going on.
D.Foreign learners don’t have to connect Chinese courses with “real” spoken Chinese.

A.Learn some dialects in Chinese daily life.
B.Learn written Chinese in Chinese daily life.

Like the lion dance, it is most often seen in festival celebrations. It is believed that performing the dragon dance keeps people away from all the bad luck and brings in good luck and wealth.
In the dance, a team of dancers hold the dragon—which is an image of the Chinese dragon—on poles (竿). The lead dancers lift and sweep, making different skillful movements with the head. The dragon’s body is made of cloth and bamboo. Its length can be different, some reaching 100 meters long and held by many people. Today, most dragon dances are performed by ten people, with one holding a bead (珠子) in front of the team. To perform an excellent dragon dance, the performers of a dragon dance team must be able to run in the correct footsteps which shouldn’t be too quick or too slow.
B.show how people get over shyness
C.introduce a shy girl called Gilbert
3.What does the underlined word “overnight” in Paragraph 2 most probably mean?
A.Correctly. B.Suddenly. C.Slowly.

______________
Anyone can put on a show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and this year even robots were getting in on the act. One of Fringe’s big shows even used a small robot to come up with jokes from audience suggestions, which were then performed by humans. The results could be very funny, but sometimes they weren’t funny at all.
Robin Lee replied, “It depends on his ability to write key words.”
