Thanks to new technology, rice now being planted in the Taklimakan Desert in Xinjiang has a shorter growth time.
Recently, a traditional type of rice in greenhouses built on the wasteland in Hotan, Xinjiang took about 60 days to mature (成熟), while normal rice farming takes about 120 to 150 days to mature.
Yang Qichang, a scientist, led the project. He started looking into the possibilities of making rice growth faster in 2016. By 2021, Yang and his team had managed to cut the growth time of rice by half in an experiment (实验) in Chengdu. However, the man-made environment was expensive in Chengdu because of the large amount (量) of energy needed to simulate (模拟) sunlight and warm temperatures.
“The cost of building greenhouses in Hotan is much cheaper than in many other parts of China because many are built on wasteland,” Yang said. “Hotan is a perfect place to do farming research.”
A lot of sunlight and the huge temperature difference between day and night in Xinjiang also encourage crop (庄稼)development and help cut down the amount of energy required to simulate such conditions.
Scientists are now thinking about using the same technology to make other crops, such as corn, grow faster in the desert.
23. What does the underlined word “greenhouse” mean in Paragraph 2?
A. 绿房子 B. 功能室 C. 温室
24. How long did it take the traditional rice in Hotan’s greenhouses to mature?
A. About 60 days. B. About 120 days. C. About 150 days.
25. What makes Hotan a perfect place for farming research?
① A lot of rain and water. ② Much cheaper cost of building greenhouses.
③ Lots of sunlight and heat. ④ Huge temperature difference between day and night.
A. ①②③ B. ①③④ C. ②③④
26. What can we know from the last paragraph?
A. Scientists’ advice on how to grow crops faster in the desert.
B. Scientists’ expectations for the wider use of the new technology.
C. Scientists’ worries about whether the experiment can succeed again.
【答案】23. C 24. A 25. C 26. B

根据第二段“Recently, a traditional type of rice in greenhouses built on the wasteland in Hotan, Xinjiang took about 60 days to mature”可知,最近,在新疆和田的荒地上建造的温室里的一种传统水稻,大约60天就能成熟。故选A。
【25题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中“The cost of building greenhouses in Hotan is much cheaper than in many other parts of China because many are built on wasteland”可知,在和田建造温室的成本比中国许多其他地方都要便宜,因为许多温室都是建在荒地上的;根据第五段“A lot of sunlight and the huge temperature difference between day and night in Xinjiang also encourage crop development and help cut down the amount of energy required to simulate such conditions”可知,新疆大量的阳光和昼夜巨大的温差也促进了庄稼的生长,并有助于减少模拟这种条件所需的能量。由此可知,使和田成为农业研究的理想之地的因素是②建造温室的成本更便宜;③大量的阳光和热量;④昼夜温差巨大。故选C。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Scientists are now thinking about using the same technology to make other crops, such as corn, grow faster in the desert”可知,科学家们现在正在考虑使用同样的技术,使其他作物,如玉米,在沙漠中生长得更快。由此可推知,从最后一段我们能了解到科学家们对新技术的更广泛使用的期望。故选B。

①The dragon is often the main character in Chinese celebrations. Dragon dances have been recorded at traditional celebrations since the Han Dynasty, while fire dragon dances began appearing in records during the Qing Dynasty. Some historians say fire dragon dances date back to (追溯到) the Ming Dynasty. Today, fire dragon dances can be seen all over China as a part of the Spring Festival celebrations.
②In Hunan province, the Xiangxi Steel Fire Dragon Dance takes place every year during the Lantern Festival. It is popular thanks to the local people who tirelessly introduce it online. Fireworks shoot out from many bamboo pipes (管子) placed on each side of the dance route (路线) and dragon dancers face the sparks (火花) bravely. Some of the dances end by running the dragon into a river; others aren’t over until the dragon is completely burnt out.
③In Sichuan province, Huanglongxi Ancient Town hosts its fire dragon dance on the first five days and the 15th day of the first lunar month. Instead of fireworks, molten iron lava (铁水熔岩) is thrown into the air. As the lava cools and sends sparks into the air, the dragon “follows” a lantern, creating an amazing show.
④In Guizhou province, Dafang County Fire Dragon Dance falls on the ninth day of the first lunar month every year. Instead of lighting the dragon on fire, it has a colorful lantern that has an artistic design and is lit from within. Fireworks are laid on the ground to create a shiny performance around the dance route as dancers move around the town with their dragon.
⑤These different fire dragon dances are necessary to Chinese culture. If you have time, you must see them!
27. When did fire dragon dances start appearing in records?
A. In the Han Dynasty. B. In the Ming Dynasty. C. In the Qing Dynasty.
28. How does the Xiangxi Steel Fire Dragon Dance become popular?
A. Local people put it on the Internet. B. Local people celebrate it every month. C. The government provides much money.
29. What makes the Dafang County Fire Dragon Dance different from the others?
A. The custom of the dance. B. The way of lighting the dragon. C. The use of fireworks on the ground.
30. What’s the structure (结构) of the text? (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2…)
A. B. C.

第四部分 读写综合(共两节,满分25分)
阅读下面的短文, 根据短文内容回答问题。
Hello, I’m Adam Smith. Do you know that many people are trying to learn a new language these days? Some of them consider it as a hobby, while others have to learn a language because it is required by their jobs or study. As a foreigner, I’m really interested in Chinese culture. That’s why I like learning Chinese. Now I’d like to share the experience of how I have learned Chinese well with you.
It is thought that a person needs to know at least 3,000 Chinese characters (汉字) to understand most Chinese newspapers. The problem for most foreigners, however, is that knowing 3,000 characters sounds like an impossible task, for many of the Chinese characters look the same. That’s why some people give up halfway. It’s the most difficult part for me, too. But I try to learn how to write each character by watching videos online. Whenever I saw a character I didn’t know in the street or on a menu, I would just write it down on my phone and then look it up. Slowly I’ve learned the characters that are common in daily life.
As for speaking, I practice talking about different topics in Chinese when I am cycling around, talking to myself or in my head, thinking through different conversations and scenes. For example, whenever I was going to a shop, I would think how to say that in Chinese. It helps me to think in a Chinese way, which is really important.
Learning a language is never easy. But as long as I learn it step by step, I will make progress day by day.

61. 例文
Dear Tom,
I’m glad you’re coming to Changsha. I heard that you found it difficult to improve your spoken Chinese. It’s really not easy for Chinese learners, but don’t worry, I’m here to help.
To improve your spoken Chinese, I have a few suggestions for you. First, try to have conversations with Chinese friends as much as possible. This will give you a chance to practice your listening and speaking skills in real-life situations. Second, watching Chinese TV shows or movies can also be a great way to improve your understanding of the language and pick up some useful expressions. Additionally, there are many Chinese learning apps available that offer practice exercises and conversation simulations. These can be very useful for building your confidence and vocabulary.
Of course, there are other methods you can try, such as joining a Chinese language corner, reading Chinese books, and practicing your pronunciation by mimicking native speakers. Remember, the more you practice, the better you will become.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua

A. 绿房子 B. 功能室 C. 温室

A. B. C.
