Theme parks and amusement parks will be standing tall this season, not just in the sense of proudly displaying their shiny, brand spanking new rides. The most expected ride of 2020, however, will take you for a face-to-face encounter with thrilling adventure.
Banshee at Kings Island, Mason, Ohio.Inverted (倒置的) feature trains that hang suspended from the track above and leave passengers’ legs hanging. They typically offer tight turns with lots of positive G-forces. With a ride time of 2 minutes 40 seconds and a track length of 4,124 +feet, Banshee is the world’s longest inverted coaster and is getting so many praises from ride fans. That is really wonderful and exciting.
Despicable Me Minion Mayhem at Universal Studios Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. The extremely silly characters from the popular Despicable Me movie bring their powerful funny actions to an engaging 4-D ride film. It’s loaded with laughs, and like the movies, includes some surprisingly touching moments as well.
Goliath at Six Flags Great America, Gurnee, Illinois. The creative company that is building this new coaster has an impressive track record of delivering incredibly smooth and satisfying thrill machines. So the expectation is high for Goliath, which will boast a 180-foot, 85-degree drop and a top speed of 72mph, which will make it the world's tallest, fastest, and steepest wooden coaster.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, Florida. It’s both a mildly thrilling coaster with a unique cradle (摇篮) design that allows the cars to swing back and forth and a forcing “dark ride” that takes guests into the colourful mine to see the Seven Dwarfs at work. The animated characters are particularly striking in the attraction, which is the capstone of the park’s New Fantasyland expansion.

Hello everyone! Meet my new friend Marco. He says Ciao! This means hello in his language. Marco traveled with me this month. When he showed me his country on the map, I was attracted by its shape. It looks like a high-heeled boot(高跟靴) in the Mediterranean Sea that’s kicking a strange-shaped ball. Can you find the name of this ball on the world map?
Marco told me that he loves cars and that his country is well-known for super-fast cars like Ferrari,Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati. Isn’t it cool? The people also love soccer here. They call it “Calcio.” He told me that they have won four World Cups. The most recent win was in 2006! When he shared this with me, he was very excited and full of pride.
We visited the country’s capital and I was amazed to find that it was more than 2500 years old! We walked around and soon it was time for dinner. Marco told me that people there eat pasta (意大利面食) at least once a day. The different sauces and toppings(酱汁和佐料)mean they never get bored of it. Also, they love including seasonal vegetables in their dinners. I couldn’t wait to enjoy the pizza and pasta with different toppings and sauces. The cappuccino and focaccia bread also made me happy. It’s no wonder that the world has adopted (采用) so much of their food! The people in this country celebrate many holidays and enjoy eating big meals with their family. The festive atmosphere (节日氛围) makes everyone happy.
I was lucky to travel to this country in March and enjoy the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, or La fiera del Libro per Ragazzi. It is held for four days every year. We also visited the Colosseum, Panthon, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which was really wonderful! Before I said goodbye to Marco, I made a promise to visit again. Most city parks are places where you can escape from big, ugly structures of metal and stone. The Manhattan High Line is different. Raised 25 feet above the ground, this large metal structure once supported a rail line. The line opened in 1934 to bring trains directly into factories. It was hardly used after the 1960s, and much of it was torn down. However, one part remained in a region of Manhattan called Chelsea. Chelsea was becoming high-class as restaurants, art galleries and apartments were built, but the ugly railway structure remained as a dead weight. Everyone knew that at some time, it would have to be removed.
But the High Line was not destroyed. In fact, now the old rail line serves as one of the most peaceful places in the city. It holds an incredible park, with beautiful gardens and great views of the city. The idea to turn the rail line into a park came from Joshua David and Robert Hammond. In 1999, they attended a meeting to decide how to deal with the High Line. David and Hammond were the only people at the meeting interested in saving the historical structure. Later on, when they asked railway officials to take them up to look at the High Line, they saw a mile and a hall of wild flowers growing in the middle of the city, and they realized that the High Line had potential to become a park. There was growing interest in improving city centers, and so the project quickly developed and money for construction was easily collected.
The first part of the High Line opened in 2009 and immediately became popular with tourists and locals alike. Each part of the park has a different atmosphere. Some areas are like balconies (阳台) with wonderful city views. Where the rail line goes between buildings, trees are thickly planted. Other sections have wide lawns (草坪) and walkways with wild flowers. Only the final section remains the way it has been for the last fifty years.
8.What does the underlined part “a dead weight” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Something with historical interest. B.Something with potential to be better.
C.Something which is a danger to people. D.Something useless which slows progress.
9.Why did David and Hammond originally want to save the High Line?
A.They wanted to reopen the train line.
B.They thought it had historical value.
C.They were interested in improving the city.
D.They thought it would become a good park.
10.What can we learn about the High Line from the text?
A.Only part of the line remains.
B.The railway companies still use the line.
C.It began to become popular in the 1960.
D.It was designed by David and Hammond.
11.What is the text mainly about?
A.Closing a train line. B.An unlikely place for a park.
C.Protection of cultural relics. D.Improving city transport.

The biggest and the smallest of the world’s animals are most at risk of dying out, according to a new analysis, with vertebrates (脊椎动物) in the so-called “Goldilocks zone”—not too big and not too small—winning out. Action is needed to protect animals at both ends of the scale, they say. The research adds to evidence that animals are dying out on such a scale that a sixth extinction is considered under way.
One clue is body size. Research on birds and mammals has shown that those with larger bodies are more likely to go extinct. Yet, when the researchers made a database of thousands of birds, mammals, fish, amphibians (两栖动物) and reptiles (爬行动物) at risk of extinction, they found disproportionate (不成比例的) losses at the large and small ends of the scale.
“Surprisingly, we found that not only the largest of all vertebrate animal species are most threatened, but the very tiniest ones are also highly threatened with extinction,” Prof. Ripple told BBC News.
Large animals, such as elephants, rhinos (犀牛) and lions have long been the target of protection efforts. However, fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians that are the giants of their kind, such as the whale shark, Somali ostrich (鸵鸟) and the Chinese giant salamander (蝾螈), tend to be overlooked. Meanwhile, small species at risk--such as frogs and shrews (鼩鼱)--receive very little attention.
“I think, for the smallest species, first of all we need to bring higher awareness to them, because the larger ones get a lot of attention, but the smaller ones get very little,” said Prof. Ripple.
In the study, vertebrates with the smallest and the largest bodies were found to be most at risk of disappearing, whether they were on land or living in oceans, streams or rivers.
Heavyweights are threatened mainly by hunting, while featherweights are losing out to pollution and cutting down forests. “Ultimately, reducing global consumption of wild meat is a key step to reduce negative impacts of hunting, fishing, and trapping on the world’s vertebrates,” they write in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
12.What made the researchers feel surprised?
A.A sixth of animals are dying out.
B.Small animals are in great danger.
C.Great losses of birds and mammals.
D.Big animals are at risk of disappearing.
13.What should we do first for the smallest species according to Prof. Ripple?
A.Transform our habits. B.Change our concepts.
C.Find ways to save small animals. D.Take measures to stop pollution.
14.What presents the great threat to vertebrates according to the last paragraph?
A.Loss of forests. B.Climate change.
C.Human activities. D.Environmental pollution.
15.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.Size Matters When It Comes to Extinction Risk
B.Large Animals Are Badly in Need of Protection
C.Why a Great Number of Animals Are Dying out
D.What We Should Do to Protect Endangered Species
City parks and open space improve our physical and mental health, strengthen our communities, and make our cities and neighbourhoods more attractive places to live and work. 16
17 In Boulder, Colorado, a greenbelt added $5.4 million to the total property values of one neighbourhood. Other things being equal, there was a $4.20 decrease in the price of property for every foot one moved away from the greenbelt, and the average value of homes next to the greenbelt was 32% percent higher than those 3,200 feet away.
Parks attract tourists. 18 As community landmarks, parks offer a marketing tool for cities to attract businesses and conferences. Parks can be used to hold festivals, concerts and athletics events, bringing additional boosts to the local economy.
Green space provides rich ecosystem services. 19 The U.S. Forest Service found that over a 50-year lifetime, one tree produces $31,250 worth of oxygen, provides $62,000worth of air pollution control, recycles $37,500 worth of water, and controls $31,250worth of soil erosion (流失).
A park’s trees store water, reducing the rate at which it flows into a city’s stormwater treatment facilities. Parks increase the amount of a city’s pervious surfaces, which allow rainwater to pass slowly into the ground. 20
A.Your local city park may improve your health.
B.Homebuyers prefer homes close to parks and open space.
C.It makes a great contribution to the improvement of our living environment.
D.They help fill hotel rooms and bring customers to local stores and restaurants.
E.Building facilities to deal with that amount of stormwa ter would cost $38 million.
F.Lots of studies have shown all kinds of benefits parks bring to a city and its people.
G.Having trees and parks can decrease the necessary size of the city’s stormwater management system.

“Ready to pick lychees (荔枝), Hannah?” Daddy asks as we pull into my grandmothers driveway.
“Ready.” I smile and get out of the car.
Daddy closes his car door. He walks to the lychee tree in my grandmother’s front yard. “Hello, Family Tree,” Daddy says.
There Daddy goes, treating that tree like it’s a person. I’m smiling at Daddy when the door opens and my grandmother shows up. I call her “Nainai.” a Chinese word for “Grandma.” Nainai used to live in China, in a province called Guangdong. That’s where she learned to grow lychees.
“Hungry for lychees. Hannah?” Nainai asks.
I shake my head. I don’t want them. Lychees look different from all the fruits I like.
I laugh happily as Daddy climbs up the tree. The lychees are many and most are up high. After Nainai passes Daddy the cutter he cuts the end of a branch (树枝) heavy with fruit.
“Daddy! Why are you cutting the tree you love?”
Daddy smiles. “Don’t worry. Cutting the ends of branches doesn’t hurt Family Tree. It makes her stronger.”
He cuts down more branches, and Nainai and I pick their fruit. Each lychee looks strange to me. Nainai eats a lychee. With a smile I drop my lychees into the boxes we will take to relatives. Nainai shares with everyone in our family.
“Are you almost done?” I ask Daddy.
“Not yet,” Daddy says. The branch he stands on seems not to support him.
“Isn’t it dangerous up there?”
“Nonsense.” Daddy picks a lychee. “You won’t hurt me will you, Family Tree?”
There Daddy goes again.
“Plunk (扑通一声)!” say the lychees when they hit the bottom of a box. Then I hear a loud sound of a branch breaking into pieces. Nainai starts shouting, and I walk around to face the tree. There’s Daddy on the ground again. Near his feet is a broken branch!
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

根据第一段“It looks like a high-heeled boot (高跟靴) in the Mediterranean Sea that’s kicking a strange-shaped ball. (它看起来就像地中海上的一只高跟靴子在踢一个形状奇怪的球)”可知,作者在第一段描述Marco的国家时提到了“形状”,所以A选项“Its shape. (它的形状)”符合题意。故选A。
根据第二段“He told me that they have won four World Cups. The most recent win was in 2006! When he shared this with me, he was very excited and full of pride. (告诉我他们赢得了四届世界杯。最近的一次胜利是在2006年!当他和我分享这件事时,他非常兴奋,充满了自豪)”可知,Marco提到足球时是非常“自豪的”,他们赢得了四届世界杯,所以B选项符合题意。故选B。
6.推理判断题。根据第三段“ It’s no wonder that the world has adopted (采用) so much of their food! (难怪全世界吃了这么多他们的食物!)”可推测出Marco国家的食物在全世界都比较受欢迎,传播广泛,所以B选项“It has spread around the world. (它已经传播到世界各地)”符合题意。故选B。
7.推理判断题。文章通篇都在介绍Macro的国家的一些风土人情,包括国家形状,足球文化,饮食等,结合最后一段“Can you guess the name of this country? (你能猜出来这个国家的名字吗)”可推出这篇文章的目的是为了介绍Macro的国家,所以C选项“To introduce a country. (为了介绍一个国家)”符合题意。故选C。

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要向读者介绍曼哈顿铁路公园——由废弃的曼哈顿铁路干线转变成的一个公园。
8.词句猜测题。根据第一段“However, one part remained in a region of Manhattan called Chelsea. Chelsea was becoming high-class as restaurants, art galleries and apartments were built, but the ugly railway structure remained as a dead weight.” 上文“one part remained in a region of Manhattan called Chelsea. Chelsea was becoming high-class as restaurants, art galleries and apartments were built(有一部分被保留下来的区域被叫做Chelsea,随着饭店、画廊和公寓被建,这里变成了高级场所。)”
根据第二段“David and Hammond were the only people at the meeting interested in saving the historical structure.(David和Hammond是会议上唯一对拯救历史建筑感兴趣的人。)”
根据最后一句话“Only the final section remains the way it has been for the last fifty years.(只有最后一部分保持了过去五十年来的样子。)” 故选A。
根据文章开头“Most city parks are places where you can escape from big, ugly structures of metal and stone. The Manhattan High Line is different.(在大多数城市公园里,你可以逃离巨大、丑陋的金属和石头建筑。曼哈顿铁路公园则不同。)”及下文介绍可知,这篇文章主要是关于一个不太可能成为公园的地方——曼哈顿铁路公园。故选B。
12.B 13.B 14.C 15.A
根据第三段““Surprisingly, we found that not only the largest of all vertebrate animal species are most threatened, but the very tiniest ones are also highly threatened with extinction,” Prof. Ripple told BBC News.(“令人惊讶的是,我们发现,不仅最大的脊椎动物受到的威胁最大,而且最小的动物也面临着灭绝的高度威胁,”Ripple教授告诉BBC新闻。)”
根据倒数第三段““I think, for the smallest species, first of all we need to bring higher awareness to them, because the larger ones get a lot of attention, but the smaller ones get very little,” said Prof. Ripple.(“我认为,对于最小的物种来说,首先我们需要提高人们对它们的认识,因为较大的物种会得到很多关注,而较小的物种却很少得到关注,”Ripple教授说。)”
根据最后一段“Heavyweights are threatened mainly by hunting, while featherweights are losing out to pollution and cutting down forests. “Ultimately, reducing global consumption of wild meat is a key step to reduce negative impacts of hunting, fishing, and trapping on the world’s vertebrates,” they write in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.(重量级动物主要受到狩猎的威胁,而羽类动物则因污染和砍伐森林而遭受损失。
故选A项。

47. Daddy says, “The branch broke so slowly and lowered me softly down.” He points to where the low-hanging branch used to connect to the tree and laughs uneasily. Nainai is worried. Daddy gives a thumbs-up. “I’m good.” He hands me a lychee.“A special gift from Family Tree.” I’m nervous to taste the lychee, but I don’t want to make Daddy sad. I take the lychee’s ugly skin off and look at the soft fruit before I eat. Then I try it. The lychee sure tastes sweet.
Daddy leans against the tree and asked “Do you like it now that you’ve tasted it?” Instead of answering, I take another lychee from a box. This time, Daddy laughs at me. “Family Tree’s got a few surprises up in her branches, but she always grows good lychees.” I smile as I eat my second lychee. Then I touch our tree softly like Daddy does as if I finally understand the meaning of family. “Delicious lychees, Family Tree.”
