Goldfish have pretty boring lives, so maybe it’s a good thing that they can only concentrate for nine seconds! But according to a new research, humans are becoming like goldfish. Our attention span (时长) is getting shorter and it’s all because of technology.
“We move quickly from one site to another on the web,” says Doctor Ted Selker, a computer scientist from Massachusetts, “and we are losing the ability to concentrate.” With millions of websites to choose from, the attention span of the average Internet user is just seconds. There are other digital distractions (分心) too: e-mail, instant messaging and short movies on websites.
Some people are worried about the effect on young people. “You need time to understand and think about what you read”, says Julia Wood, from London. “Young people search the net all the time and their brains become full of useless information but there is no time to make sense of it. I am trying to persuade my pupils to read more books, so that they concentrate on one subject for longer.”
Other teachers are trying more unusual methods to improve students’ concentration. Anne Savan, from Wales, was so worried about her students that she started playing Mozart during her science lessons. She says that it had an amazing effect, “The music made them calmer, and their concentration was much better.”
But not everyone believes that there is a problem. Ray Cole, an educational psychologist says, “On the web, young people learn to make quick decisions about what is and isn’t worth reading. They might look at five unhelpful websites very quickly, before stopping and reading a sixth useful website more carefully. In a world with so much information available, this is an important skill.”
24. Why are humans becoming like goldfish?
A. They have a wealthy life. B. They like to go fishing.
C. They are influenced by digital distractions. D. They feed more goldfish in their life.
25. What may be the reason of human’s losing the ability to concentrate?
A. There are too many Internet users. B. They have to skip around the Internet.
C. They can move very quickly. D. They are too young to concentrate.
26. What will help students deal with the short attention span problem?
A. Receiving emails. B. Texting messages.
C. Watching short movies. D. Reading more books.
27. What is Ray Cole’s attitude towards looking through websites quickly?
A. Positive. B. Opposed. C. Negative. D. Unclear.

A broken heart and a sad ending to a long friendship. That’s something most of us have experienced, or probably will. After all, it’s part of human life. But the experience can be hard to get over.
But research shows there are pathways through the heartache. Listening to sad music is a major one. It can help you begin to feel joy and hopefulness about your life again. It can arouse the desire to connect with others.
Sad music can help heal and uplift you from your broken heart. A recent study from Germany found the emotional influence of listening to sad music is an arousal of feelings of empathy (同情), and a desire for positive connection with others. That, itself, is psychologically healing. It draws you away from concentration on yourself, and possibly towards helping others in need of comfort.
Another experiment, from the University of Kent, found that when people were experiencing sadness, listening to music that was “beautiful but sad” improved their mood. In fact, it did so when the person first consciously accept the situation causing their sadness, and then began listening to the sad music. That is, when they intended that the sad music might help, they found that it did.
These findings link with other studies that show accepting your sad situation emotionally leads to healing and growth beyond it. It seems unbelievable but it does make sense. For example, research from Cornell University found that accepting discomfort about a life experience or new situation, and viewing it as a step towards growth and change, encourages people to find a pathway through it, beyond it. As Churchill famously said, “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” That discomfort points you towards creating a plan, a new action. It brings hope.
28. What can we learn from Paragraph 3&4?
A. Sad music can make people help others.
B. Sad music can make sad people feel better.
C. Sad music can make people believe in themselves.
D. Sad music can make people concentrate on themselves.
29. What does the phrase underlined in the last paragraph mean?
A. Hearing a swear word used by enemies.
B. Avoiding a place to go after death.
C. Getting an extremely pleasant time.
D. Having an unbearable experience.
30. How does the author develop this article?
A. By presenting research findings. B. By giving directions.
C. By listing authoritative figures. D. By comparing examples.
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the article?
A. How to Find Pathways through Heartaches
B. How We React to a Broken Heart Matters a Lot
C. What We Can Do to Overcome Discomfort in Life
D. Why Listening to Sad Music Heals Your Broken Heart

Planetary changes which will have an influence on many are drawing near because of the poor ecological state of the planet. Actually change has already begun through climate changes, but most humans haven’t noticed this yet. Climate change has begun to influence the world already and will begin to worsen within the next few years.
As the planet is under big geological (地质的) stresses, which are continuously increasing, it will in the future no longer be able to support its population. Shortage of resources, over-farming, lack of clean air, not enough clean drinking water and drought are some of the issues that will all play a much greater role in the near future.
Humans have caused large ecological destruction. The lifestyles of many people are changing at a fast speed; however, this will finally result in a shortage of some valuable resources. When this shortage begins to happen, people will no longer be able to have sustainable (可持续的) lifestyles.
It’s important to understand that everyone plays a role in the whole process of life. Each person’s decision can finally affect the future. These decisions, all combined, can have a very good effect on what the future will be like for humans. So the future depends on the choices we make at the present moment.
While more and more people are becoming aware of climate change and other environmental problems related to global warming, not all are fully understanding how far-reaching its effects will be. Unfortunately, most of the humans realize that the planet isn’t functioning well, but they don’t understand that this is creating a major problem for the future survival of humans.
So, every person should make the necessary changes to reduce their influence on the environment and help create a more sustainable future
32. What do we know about climate change from the text?
A. It is not casy for people to understand. B. It is expected to become worse soon.
C. It is mainly caused by natural disasters. D. It is well realized by most humans.
33. What are paragraphs 2 and 3 mainly about?
A. Resources humans are running out of. B. Healthy lifestyles humans need to lead.
C. Problems humans will be faced with. D. Geological changes humans have caused.
34. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To call on people to contribute to a sustainable future.
B. To inform people the planet isn’t functioning properly.
C. To warn people of the danger of ecological destruction.
D. To tell people the right way to obtain enough resources.
35. What can be the best title for the text?
A. The Causes of Planetary Changes B. The Influence of Ecological Destruction
C. Ways to Build a Sustainable Future D. Environmental Damage and the Human Future

I was never a fast runner and thus I always didn’t like running. Throughout my childhood, whenever we competed in the 50-meter run, the 400-meter, or any other type of race, I would finish in the bottom half. In my late teens, as a member of a baseball team, I was the slowest runner on the team. In the preseason training, I was always the one running by myself at the end.
Therefore, twenty years later, when I entered my first official running race — a 3,000-meter challenge in my city — at age 38, I certainly didn’t expect to win or come close to winning.
I was there because my college friend Jim Hosek was the director of the race, and he asked me to run. The race was aimed at raising money for the unfortunate patients in a hospital and encouraging the patients and their fanilies to be brave, determined, and confident with sportsmanship.
It was a heartwarming program.I wanted to support it, so I showed up, paid the entrance fee, had a number pinned (把……别住) on my back, and moved over to the starting line. There, I waited with about 300 other runners for the race to begin. I was nervous. Would I be the last one to finish a race again? Could I even finish the race? I wondered.
Before long, someone spoke into a microphole, “Anyone weighing over 200 pounds comes down to the scale (秤), please.” Knowing I was over 200 pounds, I walked down to the scale. A man told me to stand on it. “Two hundred and three pounds,” he said. Then he wrote down the race number that was on my back. Out of curiosity, I asked him why he did so,and then I was told there would be an award ceremony (仪式) after the race. One award was for the first finisher in the over 200-pound group, and this special award would be announced at the end of the ceremony.
Not expecting the award, I ran towards the starting line, never realizing there were only two runners weighing over 200 pounds.
Paragraph 1:
Soon after, the race started.

Paragraph 2:
Then came the last award, and to my surprise, my name was announced.

【答案】Dear Henry,
Glad to learn that you are to visit China in the summer holiday. I’m writing to recommend to you my favorite tourist attraction.
When I read your letter, the first place that popped into my mind is Xishuangbanna, located in the southwest of China. You can enjoy the fascinating dances of Dai people there as well as all kinds of delicious food, especially the local snacks. What impresses me most is the Water Splashing Festival, at which people splash water onto each other to express their wishes. Colorful culture and customs are another chief reason why I recommend the place.
I’m sure the trip will be a visual feast for you.

第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】 Soon after, the race started. While I was running, I saw many runners pass me on the way. Minutes later, I already felt tired. However, to encourage those in need, I tried to show the best of me, without worrying about the result. I kept moving forward as fast as I could. After most runners finished the race, I finally made it to the finish line. Despite the tiredness, I was satisfied. Shortly after the race, the award ceremony began and several awards were presented.
Then came the last award, and to my surprise, my name was announced. Confused and excited, I walked up to the winner’s platform and was awarded a medal. As the crowd cheered and clapped loudly, I felt warmth in my heart. After the ceremony, I learned from my friend Jim that there were only two runners weighing over 200 pounds. Although I only beat one person, Jim praised me for my determination, courage, and kindness. Honestly, I was proud of myself. This race increased my love for running and my confidence in myself.

The old man who had come in ahead of us was lucky er he had a stick to help him find his way like a blind man. It's very funny not to have any lights on before the film starts. We heard others passed by, but we could not tell how big the audience was. Obviously, however, the cinema did not get very crowded at that time of day. IT must be two o'clock already. My husband said, getting restless. Can you see your watch? My eyes had now grown accustom to the darkness. And by bringing my watch close to my eyes, I could just make out that this was a little after two. Just then the program started, but we were disappointed, defined that there had ban a change. The second of the two films which we were not interested in seeing was being shown first. The cinema was in total darkness when we went in, and IT was no easy matter, making our way to our seats.
