We are truly a classroom without walls, offering educator-developed programs and field trips.(奥克斯农场是一个经验的组合,旨在让你的学生从事有趣和令人兴奋的学习机会。 根据The Dairy Adventure部分中“Understand the nutrition of the animal products, and how robots are used in the Voluntary Milking System.(了解动物产品的营养,以及机器人如何在自动挤奶系统中使用)”可知,人们在那里可以见证智能挤奶的过程。 根据“Whole Adventures — include admission to the Pig Adventure, the Dairy Adventure, and the Crop Adventure ($7/student)(全程冒险——包括猪冒险,乳制品冒险和作物冒险的入场券(7美元/学生))”以及“The Dairy Adventure ($5/student);The Crop Adventure ($4/student)(奶牛场历险记($5/学生);农作物冒险($4/学生))”可知,若三个项目都参观,最少花费是7美元,如果单独参加需要5+4=9美元,故只参观the Dairy Adventure和the Crop Adventure最少花费也是7美元。故选A。 B In 2016, Portia Putatunda, a former journalist, was sad by the loss of her father. “I felt lost without my father, who had always been my pillar (支柱) of support.” Her father was dedicated to assisting underprivileged (贫困的) children and firmly believed in the transformative power of education. The deep-rooted passion to help people was also long rooted in her. Today, Putatunda runs a free boarding school in Komic. Situated at 15,500 feet, Komic is said to be the world’s highest village. The former journalist is now playing the role of a teacher, a caretaker and in many ways a motherly figure to these underprivileged children. “Starting a boarding school was a decision born out of necessity and a desire to make a meaningful impact on the region’s education.” Having spent two years teaching local kids there, she realized that a centralized boarding school was the most logical and efficient solution. It would provide access to education for children from across the region, bridging the gap in educational opportunities. According to her a boarding school could not only address the transport difficulties but also ensure a safe learning environment for these children. Putatunda has been primarily using her savings to support the no-charging school. Additionally, she has received support from sponsors who have stepped up to help cover the costs of some students and the monthly expenses. However, there are still some problems listed by Putatunda. Limited manpower, difficulties in construction and transportation, and harsh weather conditions are the major difficulties that come in the way of her mission. “Knowledge sharing and finding similar role models in this remote region is also a challenging task. Additionally, Komic’s landscape overshadows the challenges, making every breath an effort,” she explains. Despite the many barriers in Putatunda’s journey, she remains determined not to give up. “The unparalleled (无与伦比的) beauty of living at 15,500 feet makes me feel closer to heaven and my father. I long to adopt a child or two and make Komic my permanent home,” she signs off. 4. What motivates Putatunda to set up a boarding school? A. Her father’s influence. B. Her former job’s experiences. C. Her passion for nature. D. Her desire to be a teacher. 5. What can we learn from the fourth paragraph? A. Putatunda’s school may lack funds. B. Students can access the school easily. C. Students experienced increased school fees. D. Putatunda limited educational opportunities. 6. What are Putatunda’s plans for the future? A. Attracting more people to work there. B. Taking on Komic’s landscape challenges. C. Planning to get married in the boarding school. D. Intending to stay in Komic permanently. 7. What is the main idea of this text? A. Devoted students will make a big difference. B. The difficult process of constructing a school. C. A girl and her father work together to run a school. D A former journalist dedicated to education in the mountains. A 5. A 6. D 7. 根据第一段中“Her father was dedicated to assisting underprivileged (贫困的) children and firmly believed in the transformative power of education. The deep-rooted passion to help people was also long rooted in her.”(她的父亲致力于帮助贫困儿童,并坚信教育的变革力量。 故选A项。 根据第四段中“Putatunda has been primarily using her savings to support the no-charging school. Additionally, she has received support from sponsors who have stepped up to help cover the costs of some students and the monthly expenses.”(Putatunda主要用自己的积蓄来支持这所不收费的学校。 故选A项。 根据最后一段中“I long to adopt a child or two and make Komic my permanent home,” she signs off. 通读全文,尤其结合第一段中“Her father was dedicated to assisting underprivileged (贫困的) children and firmly believed in the transformative power of education. The deep-rooted passion to help people was also long rooted in her.”(她的父亲致力于帮助贫困儿童,并坚信教育的变革力量。帮助人们的深厚热情也早已根植于她心中)、第二段中“Today, Putatunda runs a free boarding school in Komic.”(如今,Putatunda在科米克开办了一所免费寄宿学校)和最后一段“Despite the many barriers in Putatunda’s journey, she remains determined not to give up. “The unparalleled (无与伦比的) beauty of living at 15,500 feet makes me feel closer to heaven and my father. I long to adopt a child or two and make Komic my permanent home,” she signs off.”(尽管在Putatunda的旅程中有许多障碍,她仍然决心不放弃。“生活在15500英尺的无与伦比的美丽让我觉得离天堂和父亲更近了。我渴望收养一两个孩子,让科米克成为我永久的家,”她在结束语中写道)”可知,本文主要讲述了受其父亲影响,前记者Portia Putatunda在山区致力于教育事业的故事。故选D项。 C A recent study published in Nature Neuroscience challenges the traditional idea of sleep as a state of complete disconnection from the external world. Traditionally, sleep has been described as a time when consciousness of one’s environment stops, leading to the belief that individuals do not react to external stimuli (刺激物) during sleep. However, this study suggests that there may be moments during sleep when this boundary between the mind and the outside world can be crossed. The study, led by Delphine Oudiette, a cognitive (认知的) scientist at the Paris Brain Institute in France and a co-author of the study, and her colleagues, observed 27 individuals with narcolepsy, a condition characterized by frequent clear dreams and daytime sleepiness, as well as 22 people without the condition. During their sleep, participants were repeatedly asked to either smile or frown (皱眉). Surprisingly, all of them responded accurately to at least 70% of these prompts. Overall response rates were notably higher during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, the phase of deepest sleep with significant brain activity. These findings challenge the conventional view of sleep, suggesting that certain physiological states may allow the brain to continue to receive external signals during sleep. This opens up the possibility of communication with individuals who are not aware that they are dreaming, which was previously thought to be impossible. The implications of this research extend beyond considering sleep in a new way. It paves the way for a better understanding of sleep disorders, such as sleeplessness and sleepwalking, and could provide insight into the parts of the brain that remain active during sleep and their relationship with consciousness. This study represents a shift in sleep research towards more complicated approaches that combine electroencephalogram (脑电图) with various tasks and stimuli. This method offers a promising way to investigate specific sleep-related conditions and gain a deeper understanding of the complex relationship between the brain, sleep, and consciousness. 8. How does the traditional belief interpret human sleep? A. Sleep is a process of no consciousness. B. Sleep is a chance of vivid dreams. C. Sleep is a state of increased awareness. D. Sleep is a time for deep relaxation. 9. What does the underlined word “prompts” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Questions. B. Explanations. C. Instructions. D. Suggestions. 10. What conclusion can we draw from Delphine Oudiette’s experiment? A. The surroundings affect sleep quality. B. Sleeping people can follow simple orders. C. Sound sleep leads people into dreams. D. REM sleep contributes to quick responses. 11. The medical significance of the study lies in ______. A. analyzing the behaviour of dreamers B. discovering the nature of odd dreams C. reshaping our understanding of REM D. offering better insights into sleep disorders 【答案】8. A 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第一段“Traditionally, sleep has been described as a time when consciousness of one’s environment stops, leading to the belief that individuals do not react to external stimuli (刺激物) during sleep. 故选A。 根据第二段“During their sleep, participants were repeatedly asked to either smile or frown (皱眉). Surprisingly, all of them responded accurately to at least 70% of these prompts. 根据第三段“These findings challenge the conventional view of sleep, suggesting that certain physiological states may allow the brain to continue to receive external signals during sleep. This opens up the possibility of communication with individuals who are not aware that they are dreaming, which was previously thought to be impossible. 根据第四段“It paves the way for a better understanding of sleep disorders, such as sleeplessness and sleepwalking, and could provide insight into the parts of the brain that remain active during sleep and their relationship with consciousness. D。 D On average, young adults in Canada spend several hours on their smartphones every day. Many jump from TikTok to Netflix to Instagram, putting their phones down only to pick up a video game controller. A growing body of research is looking into the potential dangers of digital media overuse, as well as the potential benefits of moderate digital media use from a mental health standpoint. A recent McGill University study of 425 Canadians between the ages of 18 and 25 has found that young adults who have more frequent psychotic (精神病的) experiences also tend to spend more time using digital media. Interestingly, the study, which surveyed the participants over a period of six months, also found that spending more time on digital media did not seem to cause any change in the frequency of psychotic experiences over time, said lead author and psychiatry resident at McGill, Vincent Paquin. “Our findings are comforting because they do not show evidence that digital media can cause or worsen psychotic experiences in young people,” said Paquin. “It is important to keep in mind that each person is different. In some situations, digital media may be highly beneficial for a person’s well-being, and in other cases, these technologies may cause unintended harm.” The researchers hope their findings will help improve mental health services for young people. By better understanding the types of digital contents and activities that matter to young people, mental health services can be made more accessible and better aligned (一致) with individual needs, they say. “It is important for young people, their families, and for clinicians and policymakers to have scientific evidence on the risks and benefits of digital media for mental health,” Paquin said. “Considering that young adults with more psychotic experiences may prefer digital technologies, we can use digital platforms to increase their access to accurate mental health information and appropriate services.” 12. What is the function of the first paragraph? A. To show findings. B. To give an example. C. To offer a background. D. To make a suggestion. 13. What is Vincent Paquin’s attitude to digital media use? A. Unclear. B. Approving. C. Doubtful. D. Objective. 14. What does Vincent Paquin suggest people do about young adults’ mental problems? A. Make joint efforts to fight digital media. B. Take advantage of digital media properly. C. Avoid the risks of digital media to mental health. D. Understand the mental health information better. 15. Which of the following could be the best title for the text? A. Mental Health Concerns Increase in the Digital Age B. Digital Media Overuse May Result in Mental Health C. Is Digital Media Use a Risk Factor for Mental Health? D. What Are the Potential Dangers of Digital Media Overuse? C 13. D 14. B 15. 根据第一段“On average, young adults in Canada spend several hours on their smartphones every day. Many jump from TikTok to Netflix to Instagram, putting their phones down only to pick up a video game controller. A growing body of research is looking into the potential dangers of digital media overuse, as well as the potential benefits of moderate digital media use from a mental health standpoint.(加拿大的年轻人平均每天花几个小时在智能手机上。 根据第三段“In some situations, digital media may be highly beneficial for a person’s well-being, and in other cases, these technologies may cause unintended harm.(在某些情况下,数字媒体可能对一个人健康非常有益,而在其他情况下,这些技术可能会造成意想不到的伤害)”可知,Paquin对数字媒体的使用的评价是客观的。 根据最后一段“Considering that young adults with more psychotic experiences may prefer digital technologies, we can use digital platforms to increase their access to accurate mental health information and appropriate services.(考虑到有更多精神病经历的年轻人可能更喜欢数字技术,我们可以使用数字平台来增加他们获得准确心理健康信息和适当服务的机会)”可知,Paquin建议我们可以利用数字平台增加年轻人获得准确的心理健康信息和适当服务的机会。 根据第一段“A growing body of research is looking into the potential dangers of digital media overuse, as well as the potential benefits of moderate digital media use from a mental health standpoint.(越来越多的研究正在从心理健康的角度研究过度使用数字媒体的潜在危险,以及适度使用数字媒体的潜在好处)”结合文章主要说明了越来越多的研究正在从心理健康的角度研究过度使用数字媒体的潜在危险,以及适度使用数字媒体的潜在好处。 Ways to Save the Ocean It’s no doubt that the ocean needs our help._____16_____Only through building collective power can we force states and corporations to take responsibility for the damage they’ve caused to the planet. Still, however much we understand that reducing and recycling is not enough, small actions can help us save the ocean. With this in mind, we’ve rounded up some simple actions we can all take to save the ocean._____17_____There are also other ways to save the ocean. Commit to a plastic-free lifestyle. So, in order to help save the ocean, many people are committing to a plastic-free lifestyle. The United Nations (UN) has even encouraged the public to think about how they deal with plastic and the ways they can live without it, or replace it:_____18_____If you really need to use plastic, recycle it responsibly. Turn your food waste into compost Composting food waste is an easy way to reduce methane (甲烷). Not only does compost reduce methane production, it can also help you fertilize your personal garden._____19_____When you go shopping, stick to a prewritten grocery list and buy unwrapped products. _____20_____Try investing in energy-efficient appliances, eating locally sourced food, walking or riding a bike, conserving water, and shutting of flights when you aren’t using them. Sure, these are small actions—especially when compared to the big carbon footprints of big-name corporations—but these changes can add up. A. Reduce your carbon footprints. B. Use those reusable things in your daily life. C. And try decreasing your food waste by shopping locally D. Just remember: the fight for saving the ocean doesn’t end here. E. Of course, there are many other essential organizations in the world. F. It's likely that a lot of your self-care products contain damaging materials. G. The best thing that you can do for the ocean is to join a movement to save it. G 17. D 18. B 19. C 20. 根据空前“It’s no doubt that the ocean needs our help.(毫无疑问,海洋需要我们的帮助。)”和空后“Only through building collective power can we force states and corporations to take responsibility for the damage they’ve caused to the planet.(只有通过建立集体力量,我们才能迫使国家和企业为他们对地球造成的破坏承担责任。)” 2. 根据空处后面一句“There are also other ways to save the ocean.(还有其他拯救海洋的方法。)” 3. 根据空处前的“The United Nations (UN) has even encouraged the public to think about how they deal with plastic and the ways they can live without it, or replace it:(联合国(UN)甚至鼓励公众思考如何处理塑料,以及如何在没有塑料的情况下生活,或者更换塑料:)”并结合空处后的“If you really need to use plastic, recycle it responsibly.(如果你真的需要使用塑料,负责任地回收它。)” 根据本段的内容“Try investing in energy-efficient appliances, eating locally sourced food, walking or riding a bike, conserving water, and shutting of flights when you aren’t using them. Sure, these are small actions—especially when compared to the big carbon footprints of big-name corporations—but these changes can add up.(试着投资节能电器,吃当地产的食物,步行或骑自行车,节约用水,当你不使用它们的时候关闭航班。 I’ve loved taking pictures since my parents gave me my first camera at age 10. My family had been planning a yard sale for several weeks. Our five-year-old son, Braxton, asked if he could set up a lemonade (柠檬水) stand during the yard sale. He wanted to make a little money and save up to buy a set of Lego bricks, which might add up to $100. “I will earn it myself!” he declared proudly. He had been talking about it almost non-stop and couldn’t wait for the day to finally arrive. Two days ago, we put up the sign “Yard Sale” in front of the driveway, telling neighbors about the time and items. On the very day, Braxton woke up early at 6:00 am and couldn’t hide his excitement. After setting everything out for the yard sale, he made the lemonade and baked some cookies to begin his business adventure. After about an hour or more, we had several customers, but Braxton still had not sold any lemonade. He was a little sad. Then a young woman walked up with her baby to browse the items. While making small talk, we told her about Braxton’s plan to save his money for his little dream. She then selected a couple of baby toys for just $6 and paid with a $10 bill. “Keep the change, boy!” she said gently. Braxton offered to give her the lemonade and cookies he made. He couldn’t have been happier to receive his first little bit of money for the day. The woman left with the baby toys, the lemonade and some cookies. We didn’t give it much thought after that, but the story didn’t end there. Several minutes passed and the woman returned. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Holding the envelope and the bill, we were so moved. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: Several minutes passed and the woman returned. “Is there anything wrong?” I thought to myself. I actually thought she was here to ask for her change back. Of course, I couldn’t have been more wrong. She was carrying an envelope this time. She handed it to us and said, “The lemonade and cookies are so delicious that I want to buy all of them. I hope you can give them away to whoever passes by your stand for me.” We thanked her and she walked away. We opened the envelope after she left and found a $100 bill in it. Paragraph 2: Holding the envelope and the bill, we were so moved. It was just a random act of kindness by a total stranger that would make a little five-year-old boy’s wish come true. At the same time, she delivered that kindness to other strangers by offering them lemonade and cookies for free. She obviously did not do it for praise or recognition. She just did it out of the kindness of her heart. Contrary to what some may think, the positivity in this world really does outweigh the negativity. There are good people around us doing good deeds, asking for nothing back. 词汇激活 行为类 ①打开:open/unfold ②赠送:give away/present ③实现:make sth. come true /realize 情绪类 ①赞美:praise/compliment ②积极:positivity/optimism 【点睛】[高分句型1] The lemonade and cookies are so delicious that I want to buy all of them. B In 2016, Portia Putatunda, a former journalist, was sad by the loss of her father. “I felt lost without my father, who had always been my pillar (支柱) of support.” Her father was dedicated to assisting underprivileged (贫困) children and firmly believed in the transformative power of education. According to her, a boarding school could not only address the transport difficulties but also ensure a safe learning environment for these children. D. A former journalist dedicated to education in the mountains. C A recent study published in Nature Neuroscience challenges the traditional idea of sleep as a state of complete disconnection from the external world. A. analyzing the behaviour of dreamers B. discovering the nature of odd dreams C. reshaping our understanding of REM D. offering better insights into sleep disorders D On average, young adults in Canada spend several hours on their smartphones every day. Ways to Save the Ocean It’s no doubt that the ocean needs our help._____16_____Only through building collective power can we force states and corporations to take responsibility for the damage they’ve caused to the planet. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
