Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have for one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to do. David, Aged 19 I’m not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening. But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid of anyone; Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all. Don’t worry. Frank, Aged 21 I think almost every kid feels both anxious and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck! Eddie, Aged 20 When I started high school I was really nervous, especially since I had been home schooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it. 21. What advide does Sharon give about high school? A. Students should stay up late to improve their grades. B. Students must ask their teachers for help. C. Students had better learn to solve their problems and make good use of time. D. Students should learn to follow others’ example. 22. Who mentions the importance of joining in activities? A. David. B. Frank. C. Sharon. D. Eddie. 23. How did Eddie feel on his first day of high school? A. Excited. B. Worried. C. Bored. D. Relaxed. B My name is Sara. When I was little, I played the drums. I also had a guitar. In fourth grade, I started playing the trombone (长号). I practiced about four hours a week. All of this might not seem like a big deal for a lot of kids, but there’s something about me that makes me a bit different from others. I was born without hands. Since I was about one year old, I’ve worn prosthetics (假手). This year, I got an invitation to join the high school marching band I told my mom I wanted to do it. But I had a teacher who thought I would not be able to march in the band — not because it was a high school band and I’m only in Grade 7, but probably because my body is different. All I wanted was to show that I could do it, so I joined the band. And it paid off! Music gives me energy. That happens sometimes. One time I was so down, I didn’t even want to get out of bed. Then I hit my mp3 player by accident. A song came on, and I got up and started dancing. It helped me say to myself, “OK, I can get through today.” Around my musician friends, we all share the same problems, like working out how many beats there are to a measure. I have a hard time counting the beats, but so do a lot of the other kids. It’s a normal problem that we musicians share. When I’m with the band, I don’t feel as different as I do in other situations. It’s just another way that music makes me want to go on, and not to just sit down by myself and not care about life. 24. As for Sara, which of the following statement is true? A. She kept playing the trombone for the longest hours. B. She knows how to play many instruments. C. She learned to play the drums at a very early age. D. There’s something wrong with her body. 25. When invited to join the marching band, Sara ______. A. believed that she would make it B. had no idea what to do C. followed the teacher’s advice D. said no at first 26. How does Sara probably feel when she’s with the band? A Bored. B. Worried. C. Relaxed. D. Afraid. 27. What would be the best title for the text? A. A high school band B. The music of me C. A young drummer D. My magic hands C Friends are important in our lives, but we sometimes have to separate from our friends. There are many poems about saying goodbye to a friend. “A Farewell (告别) Song”, a well-known one, is written by Wang Wei, a great poet living in Tang Dynasty. He is good at writing poems and drawing. When talking about Wang Wei, people often say there are pictures in his poems and there are poems in his pictures. His poems are full of beauty and imagination. “No dust is raised on the road wet with morning rain”, “The willows by the hotel look so fresh and green”, a picture of silence and peace gets into our eyes. After a morning rain in spring, the road, the willows (柳树) and the hotel are completely different. The hotel looks green. The willows look fresh. Everything is nice, gentle and silent. Willow branches are considered as a typical symbol of farewell in China. In ancient times, Chinese people often used them as gifts when they said goodbye to their friends. “I invite you to drink a cup of wine again” is the poet’s warm and real way of not wanting to say goodbye to his friend. Having another drink together is like a symbol of their goodbye. Lastly, “West of the sunny pass no more friends will be seen” shows the feeling of being alone and missing someone. It also shows his sincere love and care for his friend. “A Farewell Song” creates a feeling of quiet sadness. It mixes beautiful pictures and human feelings to deeply express the common experience of saying goodbye. 28. When did the writer of this poem live? A. Song Dynasty. B. Qing Dynasty. C. Tang Dynasty. D. Yuan Dynasty. 29. What is often used as gifts as saying goodbye to friends in China? A. A willow branch. B. A cup of wine. C. A morning rain. D. A red bean. 30. Which of the following rhymes (押韵) are RIGHT for this poem? A. ab-ab. B. ac-bd. C. ab-cd. D. ad-bc. 31. Which of the following statement is true? A. All the people drink a cup of wine before farewell. B. The willows look fresh because they are newly grown. C. Wang Wei will give up drinking because his friend has left. D. The poem shows Wang Wei’s sadness before farewell. D Teenagers who talk on the cell phone a lot, and hold their phones up to their right ears, get worse score on one type of memory test. That’s the finding of a new study. That memory impairment might be one side effect of the radiation (放射线) of the phones. The teens took memory tests twice, one year apart. Nearly 700 Swiss teens took part in a test of figural memory. This type helps us remember abstract (抽象的) symbols and shapes, explains Milena Foerster. Each time, they had one minute to remember 13 pairs of abstract shapes. Then they were shown one item from each pair and asked to match it with one of the five choices. The study volunteers also took a test of verbal memory. That’s the ability to remember words. The two memory tests are part of an intelligence test. The researchers also surveyed the teens on how they use cell phones. And they got call records from phone companies. The researchers used those records to know how long the teens were using their phones. This allowed the researchers to work out how big radiation exposure (接触) each person could have got while talking. A phone user’s exposure to the radiation can differ widely. Some teens talk on their phone s more than others. People also hold their phones differently. If the phone is close to the ear, more radiation may enter the body, Foerster notes. The teens’ scores in the figural memory tests were roughly the same from one year to the next. But those who normally held their phones near the right ears, and who were also exposed to higher levels of radiation, scored a little bit worse after a year. No group of teens showed big changes on the verbal memory test. Why might one type of memory be related to cell phone use, but not another? Foerster thinks it could have to do with where different memory centers sit in the brain. The area that deals with the ability to remember shapes is near the right ear. 32. The underlined word “impairment” in Paragraph 1 most probably mean “______”. A. result B. improvement C. mistake D. damage 33. Which of the following can be learned from Paragraph 2 and Paragraph 3? A. The teens’ ability of remembering symbols is shown in verbal memory test. B. The teens needed to report the time spent on their phones. C. The teens took two types of memory tests four times in total D. The teens’ ability of remembering words is shown in figural memory test. 34. According to the study, teens who use their phones to their right ears do worse in ______. A. matching numbers B. reading signals C. learning words D. remembering shape 35. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Teen’s Cell Phone Use Linked to Memory Problems B. Facts About Cell Phone Use at School C. Dangerous Levels of Cell Phone Use Among Teens D. Cell Phone Use and Safety Warnings Starting high school is a great experience for any teenager. I called the woman, and my husband and I drove to her home. As I looked around, I noticed a cute Maltese named Casper. My husband and I decided we would like to adopt him. The foster mom asked us if there were any way we would open our hearts to Casper’s friend, Kato, as well. She told us that the two boys, who had only each other for comfort, had recently been rescued from a puppy farm, where they had spent the first seven years of their lives. When the local SPCA shut down the puppy farm and seized all the dogs, Kato and Casper had been put in her foster home. She told us that when she first picked them up, their fur was in such terrible shape that they hardly looked like Maltese dogs. They were brown, whose fur was wet and dirty, and their paws were swollen. For seven years, they were locked in a dark doghouse and the only human contact these boys had was when they were thrown their food. Hearing all this, I turned and looked down at the little Maltese named Kato. But he’s so ugly, I thought. And he isn’t even friendly. He barked angrily when we looked at him. When I reached for him, he pushed himself against the back wall of his doghouse, whispering. Still, I felt a tig at my heart and agreed to take Kato also. As we drove home, my husband and I worried that maybe we’d taken on too much. We’d never had dogs that had been so abused(虐待) for such a longtime. The first day at our home was very difficult for the two dogs. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Though difficult, I did everything I could think of to help these dogs. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null 横峰中学2024-2025学年度第一学期高一年级第一次月考 英语试卷 时间:120分钟 满分:150分 第一部分 听力(共两节, 满分30分) 第一节 (共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 What does the man like doing? They found themselves swimming for the shore when their plane had to land in the sea just three minutes after taking off from Sydney Airport. The pilot managed to bring the aircraft and its 50 passengers down safely in the calm waters of Botany Bay where boats were able to come to the rescue of the children. It was a weekend, and there were hundreds of boats in the bay enjoying the good weather. This undoubtedly helped the rescue operation. The children said they owed their lives to the skill of the pilot. But the pilot replied modestly that it was all part of a days work. However, all their musical instruments were lost and they never got to play at their concert. A Sharon, Aged 22 The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. D There’s something wrong with her body. 25. When invited to join the marching band, Sara ______. A. believed that she would make it B. had no idea what to do C. followed the teacher’s advice D. said no at first 26. How does Sara probably feel when she’s with the band? A. Bored. B. Worried. C. Relaxed. D. Afraid. 27. What would be the best title for the text? A. A high school band B. The music of me C. A young drummer D. My magic hands 【答案】24. D 25. A 26. C 27. 根据第一段中“I was born without hands. In fourth grade, I started playing the trombone (长号).(我叫Sara。当我小的时候,我打鼓。我还有一把吉他。四年级时,我开始吹长号。)”和最后一段“It’s just another way that music makes me want to go on, and not to just sit down by myself and not care about life.(这只是音乐让我想要继续的另一种方式,而不是独自坐下来,不在乎生活。)” 所以“The music of me (我的音乐)”作为文章标题最为合适。故选B。 C Friends are important in our lives, but we sometimes have to separate from our friends. D. A red bean. 30. All the people drink a cup of wine before farewell. B. The willows look fresh because they are newly grown. C. Wang Wei will give up drinking because his friend has left. D. If the phone is close to the ear more radiation may enter the body, Foerster notes. Cell Phone Use and Safety Warnings 【答案】32. D 33. C 34. D 35. 词汇积累 高兴的:glad→delighted 喜欢:enjoy→be fond of 此外:moreover→what’s more 集中精神:focus→concentrate 2. I used to dislike sports too, but now I enjoy running. Though I used to dislike sports too, now I enjoy running. 1】When I started running, I found it difficult at first.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】Then try listening to music or thinking about your favourite things while running, which will make running more enjoyable.(运用了which引导的非限制性定语从句) 第二节 (满分25分) 67. A few years ago when I was looking for a small dog to add to our family, I contacted the local SPCA(Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and got the name of a woman who was fostering(领养,代养) some rescued Maltese dogs for them. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】The first day at our home was very difficult for the two dogs. Because of such a long period of imprisonment, these two dogs are particularly resistant to humans. Whenever we tried to get close, they always showed their teeth and let out a deep and fierce. We put the dog’s favorite bone in front of them and tried to gently touch their ears. My husband’s hand almost got bitten by them. So they can only be temporarily confined in a cage. Though difficult, I did everything I could think of to help these dogs. After a few days of getting along, they seemed to be accepting us. The paws were slowly swelling down. In the spacious and clean swimming pool, they became clean and tidy. We prepared two soft and warm dog houses and decided not to keep them in the cage anymore. Looking back at their fearful eyes and swollen claws, their dirty fur told us what kind of abuse they had experienced, which always made me sad. When I held them in my arms, tears couldn’t stop falling. Don’t worry, boys. Every day in the future, the sunshine will embrace you. 词汇激活 行为类 ①接近:get close / approach ②露出:show/expose ③限制:confine/limit/refuse politely 情绪类 ①恐惧的:fearful /scared/be grateful ②积极:sad / heartbroken 【点睛】 【高分句型1】Whenever we tried to get close, they always showed their teeth and let out a deep and fierce.
