【原文】M: After longing for his stolen guitar for almost half a century, Canadian rock star Randy Bachman has finally been reunited with the instrument, which an eagle- eyed fan tracked down in Japan. Bachman, who wrote the original“ American Woman” with his band The Guess Who, recovered his guitar in Tokyo — 46 years after his cherished guitar was stolen from a Toronto hotel.“ With that guitar, I wrote many million-selling songs… it was like my magical guitar. And then when it’s suddenly gone, the magic is gone.” Bachman said. He bought the guitar as a teenager in the early 1960s with $400 saved up from washing cars and babysitting. He had long admired the instrument, spending hours staring at it in a shop window with his friend and fellow musician Neil Young. Over the decades, Bachman hunted for his guitar. A Canadian fan, William Long, decided to help with the search in 2020. “Yeah, I’m a detective,” Long said. “I was confident I was going to find it.” Finally he found that a Japanese musician called Takeshi played Bachman’s beloved guitar in a video. Takeshi bought Bachman’s guitar in 2014 for around 850,000 yen ($6,300). Long alerted Bachman to his discovery, and the musicians arranged to meet in Tokyo to exchange Bachman’s original guitar with another of the same type, also made in 1957.

With light brown eyes and jet-black hair, my mom is my favorite hello and most difficult goodbye. For as long as I can remember, she has been my idol. While working as a judge, she is in pursuit of justice for others. As a mother, friend, and woman, however, she shows a softer side. Her actions show sensitivity, optimism, and kindness unlike any other I have ever known.
As an only child, I never received the gift of a sibling (兄弟姐妹) with whom I could share laughs, secrets, or knowing glances from across a room. The older I’ve got, the more I have realized I never needed a sibling, anyway.
Back home, my mom and I would wake and have a quick breakfast together, and leave for Jersey City — she is off to work and I went to school. Regardless of cold weather, heavy traffic, or my anxious stomach ache prior to a day of exams, we always had fun. She would tell jokes and we would laugh. With her infectious smile and confident attitude, my mom managed to turn every sad morning of mine into a better day.
Now that I am at Rochester, we are separated by nearly 400 miles of sloping highway. I no longer have the chance of looking out a classroom window and seeing her office building standing tall a mile away. Moving away from home was a major shift — and not just because of my new suburban rented room, minimized food options, and much bitter winters.
When I am missing my mom especially, I recall the words she told me when I would cry as a young girl: a line from her favorite poem, by author E. E. Cummings.
“I carry your heart with me; I carry it in my heart,” she’d smile, wiping away my tears.
As I reflect upon that sentence, I can see that there is a piece of my mom with me wherever I go. I guess those 400 miles between the two of us isn’t so distant, after all.
24. What kind of person is the author’s mother?
A. She is a strict judge. B. She is a popular poet.
C. She is a humorous comedian. D. She is a considerate role model.
25. Why did the author say she never needed a sibling?
A. She didn’t like siblings. B. She didn’t want to share a room.
C. She was old enough to live alone. D. She was content with her mother’s company.
26. What can we infer about the author’s life at Rochester?
A. It is boring. B. It is tough. C. It is unbearable. D. It is unexpected.
27. What is the main idea for the text?
A. Fun life of my mother. B. Poems for my mother and me.
C. Memory of my separated mother and me. D. Praise for my relationship with my mother.
【答案】24. D 25. D 26. B 27. D
【解析】

【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中的“Moving away from home was a major shift- and not just because of my new suburban digs, minimized food options, and much harsher winters.(离开家是一个重大的转变——不仅仅是因为我在郊区的新住所,尽量减少了食物的选择,以及更艰难的冬天。)”可知,“我”在 Rochester的生活艰难。故选B。
【27题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章内容以最后一句“As I reflect upon that sentence, I can see that there is a piece of my mom with me wherever I go. I guess those 400 miles between the two of us isn’t so distant, after all.(当我回想这句话时,我可以看到,无论我走到哪里,都有一个我妈妈的影子和我在一起。我想我们俩之间的400英里毕竟并没有那么远。)”可知本文主要讲的是作者和她妈妈之间的和谐关系,她非常喜欢这种关系并受到这种关系的积极影响。D项“赞美我和妈妈的关系”适合作本文主旨。故选D。

Thanks to technology development, healthcare services are more accessible than ever. Hospitals have committed to digitally enabled care going mainstream and more health services have gone online than ever before. But are older people who don’t use the Internet being left behind?
A study by Lancaster University found that lots of older people still avoid online life completely or use the Internet only on occasion. There are various reasons why older people don’t use the Internet. For many, a lack of confidence in their own ability to use technology raised fears about security, particularly with online banking.
Whatever the reasons are, one of the biggest concerns about an off line older generation is the likelihood that they will miss out on big developments in health accessibility, especially as many useful health services move online. Madeleine Starr MBE, director of business development and innovation at Carers UK, said, “Though many of us use technology in our everyday lives, seven out of ten people don’t yet think of technology when it comes to caring. So, many are not yet realizing the benefits of this technology. Accessing appointments, ordering prescriptions (处方) or having consultations online can all help reduce visits to doctors and unplanned hospital visits.”
In an aging society, the Internet can make a huge amount of difference to older people requiring a bit of extra support and those caring for them. “Advice from specialist websites or symptom checkers is great for those who are unsure if their symptoms are cause for concern or find it difficult to get to a doctor’s appointment. Technology is making it easier to offer remote care and support for older people, helping them remain independent. The information on the Internet can prevent older people from taking their health into their own hands,” adds Caroline Abrahams, charity director at Age UK.
However, services need to remain accessible to those who aren’t online. While it’s fine to support older people getting online, those who choose not to or cannot do so, for whatever reason, should not be treated like second-class citizens. They must still be able to access services in other ways that suit them.
28. What is the main purpose of paragraph 1?
A. To list some important facts. B. To raise a topic to be discussed.
C. To express the main idea of the text. D. To introduce new advances in science.
29. What might be the big concern about off line older people?
A. They will suffer from terrible loneliness.
B. They will face risks from online banking.
C. They will fail to benefit from advanced online healthcare.
D. They will underestimate the role of modern technology in healthcare.
30. Why does the author mention Caroline Abrahams’ words in paragraph 4?
A. To stress the popularity of the Internet.
B. To reveal technology is developing very fast now.
C. To indicate the big challenges an aging society faces.
D. To show the Internet is of great importance to older people.
31. What is the message the author wants to convey in the last paragraph?
A. Health services should get support from professionals.
B. Older people should be encouraged to place their health first.
C. Older people should receive some training in using the Internet.
D. Health services should be offered in ways that suit different people.
【答案】28. B 29. C 30. D 31. D

Egypt’s Great Pyramids at Giza exist on a remote area of land at the edge of the Sahara Desert. The inhospitable location has long puzzled archaeologists, some of whom had found evidence that the Nile River once flowed near these pyramids in some capacity, promoting the landmarks’construction starting 4,700 years ago.
Using satellite imaging and analysis of cores of sediment (沉积物), a new study published in the journal Communications Earth& Environment has mapped a 64-kilometer-long, dried-up branch of the Nile, long buried beneath farmland and desert.
Lead author Eman Ghoneim said previous efforts to reconstruct Nile waterways were largely limited to soil sample collections from small sites, mapping only small sections. “This is the first study to provide a map of the long- lost ancient branch of the Nile River,” she noted. Ghoneim and her team called this extinct branch Ahramat, Arabic for pyramids. It was about 0.5 km wide and at least 25 meters deep, similar to the current Nile.
“The large size and extended length of the Ahramat Branch and its proximity (邻近) to the 31 pyramids in the study area strongly suggest a functional waterway of great importance,” Ghoneim said. She thought the river would have played a key role in ancient Egyptians’transportation of the enormous amount of building materials and laborers needed for the pyramids’construction.
Ghoneim, born and raised in Egypt, was always curious about the pyramids’construction site. She investigated with NSF funding and found geophysical data confirming it was an ancient Nile arm. Earth cores revealed sandy sediment, consistent with a river channel at 25 meters’depth.
The study suggests “countless” temples may be buried along the Ahramat Branch’s riverbank. Why the river dried up remains unclear, but a likely cause is a period of drought and desertification.
32. What does the underlined word in paragraph l probably mean?
A. Unapproachable. B. Unlivable. C. Inhabitable. D. Unavailable.
33. What did the previous studies on the Nile River focus on?
A. The Great Pyramids of Giza. B. The entire Nile River system.
C. Soil sample collections from small sites. D. The dryness of the Nile River branch.
34. What does Ghoneim think about the Ahramat Branch?
A. It was not important to ancient Egyptians.
B. It was the main waterway of the Nile River.
C. It dried up due to the digging of the pyramids.
D. It played a key role in the construction of the pyramids.
35. What is the best title of the passage?
A. Lost branch of the Nile River B. The mystery of the remote land
C. The Nile River’s role in ancient Egypt D. The construction of the Great Pyramids

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了通过五个方面帮助高二的学生度过高中的剩余时光。
【36题详解】
根据后文“This means setting up a system that works for you to keep track of important dates, assignments, and deadlines. This can be as simple as using a planner. In this way, you can stay on top of your work and avoid any last- minute hurry.(这意味着你要建立一个系统来记录重要的日期、任务和截止日期。这就像使用计划表一样简单。这样,你就能掌握你的工作,避免最后一分钟的匆忙)”可知,本段的主旨是强调要有条理,有目标,故B选项“有条理”符号语境。故选B。
【37题详解】
根据后文“For example, you might dedicate Mondays to Thursdays to homework, Fridays to extracurricular activities, and Saturdays to sports and hanging out with friends.(例如,你可以在周一到周四做作业,周五做课外活动,周六做运动和和朋友出去玩)”可知,后文的例子表明每天的活动都要有具体的安排,平衡好学习和课外、社交生活,明智的管理时间。E选项“为每项任务设定具体的日期或时间是个好主意”符合语境。故选E。
【38题详解】
根据上文“Meanwhile, do ask for help from your teachers and parents if you’re struggling with a particular concept.(同时,如果你在某个概念上有困难,一定要向老师和父母寻求帮助)”可知,本句承接上文,说明老师和父母的作用。D选项中的they指的是your teachers and parents,他们一直在那儿支持你并希望你成功。D选项“他们会支持你,希望你成功”符合语境。故选D。
【39题详解】

Most people set time limits on their goals, such as “I’ll finish reviewing this book by Friday!” or something like that.(设定目标,而不是时间限制。
根据上文“Embrace your passions and start exploring potential careers. Think about what subjects you enjoy most and what courses you’re passionate about. From there, research potential careers that are in line with your interests.(拥抱你的激情,开始探索潜在的职业。想想你最喜欢的科目和你最热衷的课程。在此基础上,研究符合你兴趣的潜在职业)”以及后文“The more you know about a particular career, the better equipped you’ll be to decide your future.(你对某一职业了解得越多,你就越有能力决定自己的未来)”可知,本段主旨为段落首句,拥抱你的激情,开始探索潜在的职业,后文提到了了解某一职业,可知本句与了解职业领域有关,F选项中those fields指的是空格前的potential careers。F选项“向这些领域的人寻求建议和指导”符合语境。故选F。

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
This was the third time we had moved in the last four years. I became more and more depressed because I was always the new kid in class, the one who didn’t know what chapter we were working on or what project was due next week. I was always playing catch- up and trying to fit in. Worse than that was trying to make new friends wherever we moved. There were those popular students who had known each other since grade school, and then there were the academically or athletically outstanding individuals who just didn’t seem to interest me. I wasn’t athletic and didn’t excel at anything, really. I was just an average high school kid looking for friends.
The more I thought, the angrier I was. Deep down inside, I knew my parents loved me, but it wasn’t enough. “That’s it!” I screamed one day as I ran up the stairs to my room. Throwing open my dresser drawers, I pulled out a clean T- shirt and jeans, threw them in my backpack and ran back down the steps. Mom and Dad stood there, looking like they were in shock.
“Where are you going?” Mom asked, her voice filled with concern.
“Anywhere but here!” I shouted as I ran out the door. They weren’t fast enough to grab me, and I slipped away into the darkness of the night. It was cold, but my hot temp er warmed me, and I didn’t feel it. Not at first, anyway.
I hit the streets and took a taxi. I knew it wasn’t safe, but I didn’t care. It was the only way I knew, at fourteen years old, to escape from them. As the city sights rushed by outside the taxi window, I eventually found myself curled up (蜷成一团) on a park bench closest to the comforting shelter of a streetlight. With my arms wrapped tightly around myself for warmth, I wept silent tears.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Two or more hours later, a familiar voice broke through the silence.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
When we finally arrived home, Mom was waiting anxiously.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Two or more hours later, a familiar voice broke through the silence. It was Dad. I didn’t know how he found me, but I was glad he did. After showing concern and making sure I was okay, he then drove me back home without saying any more. I could tell from his face that he felt responsible for my anger and sadness, which made me realize that I hadn’t appreciated all the things he had done for our family. He moved us around in an attempt to offer us a better life. He was not at fault.
When we finally arrived home, Mom was waiting anxiously. As soon as I stepped inside, she opened her arms wide and I fell into her embrace. Dad joined in and hugged both of us. Normally, I would have pulled away, but this time I didn’t. I saw tears in their eyes and it hit me all at once how much they loved me. They were making every effort to create a brighter future for our family. So why couldn’t I change my attitude, make the most of my new school and befriend my classmates? I believed tomorrow would be a great day.

C She is a humorous comedian.

“The large size and extended length of the Ahramat Branch and its proximity (邻近) to the 31 pyramids in the study area strongly suggest a functional waterway of great importance” Ghoneim said.
32 What does the underlined word in paragraph l probably mean?
A. Unapproachable. B. Unlivable. C. Inhabitable. D. Unavailable.
33 What did the previous studies on the Nile River focus on?

Two or more hours later, a familiar voice broke through the silence.
