Education in 2080 is distinctive from education in the 2020s. Until about 2035, the main function of education systems was to supply the economy with the next generation of workers. In 2080, the purpose of education is the well-being of society and all its members. To make this a bit more tangible for you, I would like to give an example of what a child’s education looks like in 2080. Her name is Shemsy. Shemsy is 13, and she is confident and loves learning.
Shemsy does not go to school in the morning because schools as you know them no longer exist. The institution was abolished as it was widely thought of as more like a prison or a factory than a creative learning environment. Schools have been replaced with “Learning Hubs” that are not restricted to certain ages. They are where intergenerational learning happens, in line with the belief that learning is a lifelong pursuit.
Every year, Shemsy designs her learning journey for the year with a highly attentive “teacher-citizen”. Shemsy is actively engaged in designing her education and has to propose projects she would like to be involved in to contribute to and serve her community. She also spends lots of time playing as the role of play in learning has finally been recognized as essential and core to our humanity. Shemsy works a lot collaboratively. Access to education is universal, and higher education institutions no longer differentiate themselves by how many people they reject yearly. Variability between students is expected and leveraged (利用) as young people teach one another and use their differences as a source of strength. Shemsy naturally explores what she is curious about at a pace she sets. She still has some classes to take that are mandatory for children globally: Being Human and the History of Humanity.
We invite you to think about your vision for education in the year 2080 what does it look like, who does it serve, and how does it transform our societies?
4. What does paragraph 1 mainly tell us?
A. There are different types of education.
B. The present education needs improvements.
C. Education and economy are closely associated.
D. The goal of future education is fundamentally different.
5. What do we know about the Learning Hub that Shemsy goes to?
A. It accepts students of all ages. B. It promotes competition.
C. It discourages individualized learning. D. It is all about play-based learning.
6. What does the underlined word “mandatory” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Tough. B. Satisfactory. C. Optional. D. Required.
7. What is the suitable title for the text?
A. An Example to All B. A Vision for Education
C. A Challenge for Education D. A Journey into the Future
D 5. A 6. D 7. B

根据第一段“Until about 2035, the main function of education systems was to supply the economy with the next generation of workers. In 2080, the purpose of education is the well-being of society and all its members.(直到2035年左右,教育系统的主要功能是为经济提供下一代工人。在2080年,教育的目的是社会及其所有成员的福祉。)”可知,第一段主要告诉我们未来教育的目标是完全不同的。故选D。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“Schools have been replaced with “Learning Hubs” that are not restricted to certain ages.(学校已经被不受年龄限制的“学习中心”所取代。)” 故选A。

通读全文,尤其是第一段“In 2080, the purpose of education is the well-being of society and all its members. To make this a bit more tangible for you, I would like to give an example of what a child’s education looks like in 2080.(在2080年,教育的目的是社会及其所有成员的福祉。为了让你们更明白这一点,我想举一个2080年儿童教育的例子。)”可知,本文主要介绍的是对2080年的教育的展望,因此最恰当的标题是B选项“A Vision for Education(教育远景)”。故选B。
C
Allow me to list the short-lived hobbies I started and quickly gave up when I didn’t succeed pottery, softball, violin and designing new-style T-shirts. Uncomfortable to ask for help, I’d rather drop a hobby than give myself time to improve. Being challenged can make me angry sometimes.
Babies and children feel challenged almost at everything, because each experience is new. Adults, on the other hand, see anything less than doing really well as failure. If you’re at all like me, you protect yourself from this feeling and avoid hobbies that might show a lack of competence.
Although challenges can bring discomfort, we shouldn’t shy away from activities we enjoy simply because we aren’t great at them. As the season for new habits and hobbies comes, put your pride to one side, and embrace the challenge.
The way you think about your abilities can influence your performance. There are two ways people view success: fixed mindset and growth mindset. If you have a fixed mindset, you may believe you already have all the skills and abilities you will ever have and you may never improve with effort. Growth mindset is the belief that you can advance through hard work, support, and a different method. “To develop a growth mindset, remind yourself that the first time you began any endeavor, you probably met challenges,” says Daya Grant, a mental performance coach. “Then you got better. As you learn and build skills, however slowly, celebrate those little wins. A win is a win. It doesn’t really matter to the brain how big or small it is.”
“But If you love the challenge,” Grant says, “or enjoy the hard work, accept the fact that you may be doing the thing, whether it’s dancing or playing the violin, well enough.” This reminder is one I’ll take with me as I start new projects that I might not be naturally good at. Catch me at a pottery wheel or playing my guitar in my bedroom. Or don’t. The results may not be pretty—and I do not care.
8. What’s the function of the first paragraph?
A. To provide background information. B. To bring about the topic of the passage.
C. To stress the importance of success. D. To introduce his personal experience
9. What does the underlined word “this feeling” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Feeling confident almost at everything B. Dropping a hobby rather than improving it.
C. Seeing anything that can’t do well as failure. D. Avoiding hobbies showing a lack of abilities
10. What does Daya Grant think is important in developing a growth mindset?
A. Building practical and creative skills. B. Asking for professional suggestions.
C. Having enough patience and confidence. D. Developing a strong sense of competition.
11. What can we learn about the author from the last paragraph?
A. He has developed his own ways of succeeding. B. He has learned how to balance life and work.
C. He cares a lot about what others think of him D. He now learns how to embrace challenges.
B 9. C 10. C 11. D

根据文章第一段“Allow me to list the short-lived hobbies I started and quickly gave up when I didn’t succeed pottery, softball, violin and designing new-style T-shirts. Uncomfortable to ask for help, I’d rather drop a hobby than give myself time to improve. Being challenged can make me angry sometimes. (请允许我列出我开始的短暂的爱好,当我不成功时很快就放弃了陶器,垒球,小提琴和设计新型t恤。不愿意寻求帮助,我宁愿放弃一个爱好,也不愿给自己时间去提高。被挑战有时会让我生气。)”可知,第一段列举了作者曾经尝试过但很快放弃的爱好,目的是引出文章的主题,即面对挑战和失败的态度。故选B。
【9题详解】
词句猜测题。根据文章第二段“Babies and children feel challenged almost at everything, because each experience is new. Adults, on the other hand, see anything less than doing really well as failure. If you’re at all like me, you protect yourself from (婴儿和儿童几乎在任何事情上都感到挑战,因为每一次经历都是新的。另一方面,成年人认为任何做得不好的事情都是失败的。如果你和我一样,你会保护自己不受这种感觉的影响,避免那些可能显示出缺乏能力的爱好。)”可知,this feeling指的是成年人将不能很好地完成某事视为失败的感觉。A. B. Dropping a hobby rather than improving it放弃爱好而不是改进它;C. Seeing anything that can’t do well as failure把做不好的事情看作是失败;D. Avoiding hobbies showing a lack of abilities避免缺乏能力的爱好。故选C。

As you learn and build skills, however slowly, celebrate those little wins. A win is a win. It doesn’t really matter to the brain how big or small it is.”
从最后一段““But If you love the challenge,” Grant says, “or enjoy the hard work, accept the fact that you may be doing the thing, whether it’s dancing or playing the violin, well enough.” This reminder is one I’ll take with me as I start new projects that I might not be naturally good at. Catch me at a pottery wheel or playing my guitar in my bedroom. Or don’t. The results may not be pretty—and I do not care. (“但如果你喜欢挑战,”Grant说,“或者享受艰苦的工作,接受这样一个事实:你可能正在做这件事,无论是跳舞还是拉小提琴,都做得很好。”当我开始新项目时,这个提醒是我会随身携带的,因为我可能天生不擅长。抓住我玩陶艺轮或者在我卧室弹吉他的机会。或不。结果可能不太好,但我不在乎。)”可以看出,作者现在学会了如何接受挑战,不再在意结果是否完美。故选D。
D
For decades, scientists thought of the brain as the most valuable and consequently most closely guarded part of the body. Locked safely behind the blood-brain barrier, it was broadly free of the harm of viruses and the battles started by the immune system Then, about 20 years ago, some researchers began to wonder: is the brain really so separated from the body? The answer, according to a growing body of evidence, is no.
The list of brain conditions that have been associated with changes elsewhere in the body is long and growing. Changes in the makeup of the microorganisms in the digestive system have been linked to disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. There is also a theory that infection during pregnancy could lead to brain diseases in babies.
The effect is two-way. There is a lengthening list of symptoms not typically viewed as disorders of the nervous system, but the brain plays a large part in them. For example, the development of a fever is influenced by a population of nerve cells that control body temperature and appetite. Evidence is mounting that cancers use nerves to grow and spread.
The interconnection between the brain and body has promising implications for our ability to both understand and treat illnesses. If some brain disorders start outside the brain, then perhaps treatments for them could also reach in from outside. Treatments that take effect through the digestive system, the heart or other organs, would be much easier and less risky than those that must cross the blood-brain barrier.
It also works in the opposite direction. Study shows mice have healthier hearts after receiving stimulation to a brain area involved in positive emotion and motivation. Activation of the brain reward centre — called the ventral tegmental area (VTA) — seems to cause immune changes that contribute to it. Working out how this happens could help to destroy cancers, enhance responses to vaccines and even re-evaluate physical diseases that, for centuries, have not been considered as being psychologically driven.
12. What do the researchers focus on about the brain?
A. Its protecting system. B. Its exposure to diseases.
C. Its controlling function. D. Its connection to the body.
13. How does the author support his idea in paragraph 2?
A. By explaining a theory. B. By providing examples.
C. By making comparisons. D. By presenting cause and effect.
14. Which best describes treatments that do not cross the blood-brain barrier?
A. Cheaper. B. More specific.
C. Safer. D. More direct.
15. What does the study suggest in the last paragraph?
A. Brain health depends on immune changes.
B. Brain stimulation leads to negative emotions.
C. The brain can help enhance psychological health.
D. The brain may be key to treating physical diseases.
D 13. B 14. C 15. D
根据第一段“Then, about 20 years ago, some researchers began to wonder: is the brain really so separated from the body? The answer, according to a growing body of evidence, is no. (然后,大约20年前,一些研究人员开始怀疑:大脑真的与身体如此分离吗?根据越来越多的证据,答案是否定的。)”可知,研究人员主要研究大脑与身体的联系。故选D。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“The list of brain conditions that have been associated with changes elsewhere in the body is long and growing. Changes in the makeup of the microorganisms in the digestive system have been linked to disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. There is also a theory that infection during pregnancy could lead to brain diseases in babies. (与身体其他部位变化相关的大脑状况清单很长,而且还在不断增加。消化系统中微生物组成的变化与帕金森病等疾病有关。还有一种理论认为,怀孕期间的感染可能会导致婴儿脑部疾病。)”可知,这一段作者主要通过消化系统和怀孕期间的感染2个例子来论证自己的观点,说明大脑并不是身体中保护最严密的部分。故选B。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“Treatments that take effect through the digestive system, the heart or other organs, would be much easier and less risky than those that must cross the blood-brain barrier. (通过消化系统、心脏或其他器官进行的治疗比必须穿过血脑屏障的治疗更容易,风险更小。)”可知,不通过血脑屏障的治疗风险更小。故选C。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Study shows mice have healthier hearts after receiving stimulation to a brain area involved in positive emotion and motivation.

Nature, while beautiful, could also be unpredictable and merciless. But most importantly we bear in mind that in the darkest times, there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel, just like Mrs. Evans‘ cabin light.
One bright summer day, my friend Peter and I decided to venture into the unexplored trails of the Great Smoky Mountains. Blessed with rich biodiversity and fascinating landscapes, the national park seemed a perfect getaway. Little did we know that our casual hike would soon turn into an unexpected personal incident, forever engraved in our memories.
We set off early in the morning, equipped with our backpacks and a map that was supposed to guide us through the winding trails. The sun was up, casting long shadows on the forest floor as we set off on our journey. We trekked (艰难行走), laughed, and marveled at the beauty of nature around us.
As we trekked through the dense forests, taking in the natural wonders around us, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of adventure coursing through our veins. The trail was rugged and uneven, but we persevered through the challenging landscape.
Midway through our expedition, we stumbled upon a breathtaking waterfall, its glistening waters cascading down the rocks in a quiet and peaceful melody. We sat down by the water’s edge, taking a moment to get lost in the beauty of nature. The cool mist from the waterfall enveloped us, and we felt refreshed and energetic.
As the day wore on, we ventured deeper into the wilderness, eager to explore every corner of this natural paradise. We were so absorbed in the beauty of nature that just didn't notice our way and it seemed that we could not find the way back to the familiar part of the forest. Panicking, we scrambled to find our way back but the dense vegetation and winding trails only served to confuse us further. We tried to remember any possible signs that might lead us back, No sooner had we celebrated our return to the clear trails than something worse happened.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Para.1:Suddenly, the weather took an abrupt turn.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Para.2:Just when we were about to give up, a faint light flickered in the distance
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Suddenly, the weather took an abrupt turn. Dark clouds shrouded the sky, and a heavy downpour ensued. The comforting forest sounds quickly proved a terrifying symphony of thunder and wind. The trail that was once so clear became a muddy mess, making it impossible to go on. We tried to consult our map, but it was too late; we got lost in the wildness. Hours passing, our attempts to find the trail turned out to be in vain. With the cold creeping in, despair started to set in.
Just when we were about to give up, a faint light flickered in the distance. Curiosity overpowered our fear, and we decided to follow it. When we drew nearer, we saw a small log cabin, lights shining from its windows. Knocking on the door, an elderly woman, Mrs. Evans, welcomed us with a warm smile. She was a retired ranger who had chosen to live her twilight years in the heart of the mountains. She offered us shelter for the night, and the next morning, guided us back to the main trail. This incident strengthened our friendship and taught us the importance of resilience and hope. The experience was beyond expectation, terrifying, but enlightening all the same.

14 Which best describes treatments that do not cross the blood-brain barrier?
A. Cheaper.

Midway through our expedition we stumbled upon a breathtaking waterfall, its glistening waters cascading down the rocks in a quiet and peaceful melody.
