I chose to work in a wild animal reserve after graduation. I found even the reserve’s staff members didn’t know what Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys looked like. M: They have black-and-white hair, pink lips and tails that are approximately as long as the body. W: I guess most of the audience in front of the TV are curious about these monkeys. In fact, Mr. Long shot many videos about them. We’ll see what happened to these monkeys in his footage. 18. What does the speaker mainly talk about at the beginning of the talk? A The popularity of Harry Potter. B. J. K. Rowling’s school life. C. His love of Harry Potter. 19. What is an advantage of printed books according to Naomi S. Baron? A. They can add more pleasure to reading. B. Their content is typically more meaningful. C. Fewer language mistakes can be found in them. 20. What percentage of participants checked social media often while reading? A. 45%. B. 50%. C. 67%. 【答案】18 A 19. A 20. M: Will there ever be another Harry Potter? Between 1997 and 2007, it seemed like every child was reading J. K. Rowling’s timeless fantasy novels about a teenager’s adventures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Kids worldwide spent long hours reading the thick books three, four, or more times. But since digital reading began replacing print reading, the rate of children who read for fun has fallen. Digital texts, such as social media chats and blogs, tend to be much shorter and have worse linguistic quality compared to printed works. “The physical characteristics of a book — the smell, the look and the feel — can make reading more enjoyable,” said Naomi S. Baron, a professor at American University. Lastly, when people read content on digital sources, social media can make them less focused. In a recent study of undergraduates at West Virginia University, 67% admitted checking social media often while reading. Over half of respondents said that social media negatively impacted their reading habits, while 45% said it had a neutral effect and 2.5% said it had a positive effect. A Art Contest — Technology &You! S. and served near the front lines of the Civil War. Her accomplishments, including being the only female recipient of the Medal of Honor, made Walker a living symbol of women’s independence. Born on November 26, 1832, in Oswego, New York, Dr Walker grew up in a home where education was valued. Her parents encouraged curiosity and built a school on their property. Both parents dealt with illness and read medical books to learn about the human body. Her father’s belief in personal hygiene (卫生) profoundly influenced Mary from an early age. In December 1853, she was accepted into Syracuse Medical College, one of a few U. S. medical schools that admitted women. She excelled and graduated with a medical doctorate on February 20, 1855. Dr Walker was the only woman in her graduating class. That same year she married classmate Albert Miller, spurning tradition by keeping her family name and refusing to recite the word “obey” during her vows. Setting up a joint medical practice in New York, Dr Walker faced prejudice against female doctors. However, the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861 provided an opportunity to serve her country. Wearing men’s clothes for practicality, she fearlessly volunteered as a medical assistant, tending to wounded soldiers on the battlefield. Her courage caught the military’s eye, and in 1863, she became the first female surgeon in the army. While serving as an assistant surgeon with the North, Dr Walker often crossed enemy lines to treat people in need in the South. On April 10, 1864, Southern troops arrested her and accused her of being a spy. They put her into prison and the conditions were awful. On August 12, 1864, Dr Waker was part of a prisoner exchange. After her release, she returned to her role as a surgeon, tirelessly serving until the war’s end in 1865. President Andrew Johnson recognized her incredible service and awarded her the Medal of Honor, making her the first woman ever to receive such an honor. 24. What caused Dr Walker to pursue a medical career? A. Exposure to medical books. B. Influence from her parents. C. Curiosity about illnesses. D. Practice of hygiene principles. 25. What does the underlined word “spurning” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Defending. B. Establishing. C. Continuing. D. Rejecting. 26. What did the Civil War mean to Dr Walker’s career? A. A fight against prejudice. B. The test of her medical skills C. A chance to be recognized. D. The closing of her clinic. 27. Which of the following can best describe Dr Walker? A. Sensitive and professional. B. Courageous and determined. C. Intelligent and cooperative. D. Modest and devoted. B 25. D 26. C 27. 由第二段中“Both parents dealt with illness and read medical books to learn about the human body. Her father’s belief in personal hygiene (卫生) profoundly influenced Mary from an early age. (父母双方都治疗过疾病,并阅读过医学书籍来了解人体。玛丽从小就深受父亲个人卫生观念的影响)”可知,来自父母的影响促使Dr Walker从事医学事业。故选B项。 【25题详解】 词句猜测题。由第三段中“That same year she married classmate Albert Miller, spurning tradition by keeping her family name and refusing to recite the word “obey” during her vows. (同年,她嫁给了同班同学阿尔伯特·米勒,spurning传统,保留了自己的姓氏,并在宣誓时拒绝背诵“服从”这个词)”和常识可知,美国女性结婚后要冠以夫姓,Dr Walker保留了自己的姓氏,打破传统,拒绝(rejecting)在结婚过程中遵循这些传统风俗。因此划线词意为“拒绝”。故选D项。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。由第四段中“However, the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861 provided an opportunity to serve her country. (然而,1861年内战的爆发为她提供了为国家服务的机会)”和“Her courage caught the military’s eye, and in 1863, she became the first female surgeon in the army. (她的勇气引起了军方的注意,1863年,她成为军队中第一位女外科医生)”可知,内战给予了Dr Walker获得认可的机会,她成为军队中第一位女外科医生。故选C项。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。由第四段中“Wearing men’s clothes for practicality, she fearlessly volunteered as a medical assistant, tending to wounded soldiers on the battlefield. Her courage caught the military’s eye (为了实用起见,她穿着男装,无所畏惧地自愿担任医疗助理,在战场上照顾受伤的士兵。她的勇气引起了军方的注意)”和第五段中“After her release, she returned to her role as a surgeon, tirelessly serving until the war’s end in 1865. (获释后,她回到了外科医生的岗位,不知疲倦地服务,直到1865年战争结束)”可知,Dr Walker勇敢而坚定地投身于战争救护工作。故选B项。 C As a nature photographer, it’s easy for me to focus on the glow of spring sunrise, or the magic hour before a stunning sunset. However, it is also easy for you to overlook the night sky in my photos and how much my composition changes with the addition of the Milky Way swirling (旋转) above, or some shooting stars. Stars have always been one of my favorite elements in nature photos. They offer an ancient connection to a universe that is mysterious and grand, connecting our earthly lives to the heavens. Since the earliest recorded history, the night sky has sparked our imaginations and become deeply rooted in our cultures, traditions, art work and in later years, has inspired the development of technology with the hope of reaching beyond our blue planet. With the development of the industrial world, though, we have begun to lose the clarity (清晰) that thousands of generations of people and wildlife before us have enjoyed. Because of excessive (过度的) use of lighting, stars have become fainter (模糊的). For photographers hoping to capture the magic of the night sky, they must seek new places. Dark places are far from the reach of a city, and those places are becoming harder and harder to find. Thanks to conservation groups, led by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA), we have an opportunity to improve our night skies and recapture ancient magic. By holding the International Dark-Sky Week, a yearly celebration of the night sky, the IDA is helping cities, communities and families do their part in helping make skies darker. Dark skies benefit more than just nature photographers; they are critical to numerous species of wildlife that also rely on them. Here are some simple steps we all can do that are easy and inexpensive: Change your light bulbs to a dark-sky-friendly color. The closer the light resembles “firelight” and the further it is away from a blue or white color, the better it is for the environment. Use a light fixture (设备) that channels the light down and out instead of wide and up. Turn your lights off before bed! 28 Why does the author mention his photos in paragraph 1? A. To introduce his style. B. To give some examples. C. To make the text interesting. D. To bring in the topic of the text. 29. What is a problem in the industrial world for the author? A. Low air quality. B. Ignorance of the past. C. Light pollution. D. Little interest in stars. 30. What measure has the IDA taken for the problem discussed in the text? A. Holding a photo contest every year. B. Setting up protected areas for wildlife. C. Selling environmentally-friendly light bulbs. D. Celebrating the dark sky in a specific week annually. 31. Who is the text intended for? A. Nature lovers. B. The general public. C. Members of the IDA. D. Nature photographers. D 29. C 30. D 31. 由第一段中“As a nature photographer, it’s easy for me to focus on the glow of spring sunrise, or the magic hour before a stunning sunset. (作为一名自然摄影师,我很容易把注意力集中在春天日出的余晖上,或者在令人惊叹的日落前的神奇时刻)”和第三段中“With the development of the industrial world, though, we have begun to lose the clarity (清晰) that thousands of generations of people and wildlife before us have enjoyed. Because of excessive (过度的) use of lighting, stars have become fainter (模糊的). (然而,随着工业世界的发展,我们开始失去我们之前数千代人和野生动物所享有的清晰度。由于过度使用照明,恒星变得更暗)”可知,作者提到他的照片是为了引入文章的主题,即夜空和光污染的问题。故选D项。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。由第三段中“Because of excessive (过度的) use of lighting, stars have become fainter (模糊的). (由于过度使用照明,恒星变得更暗)”可知,光污染导致星星变得模糊,这是作者提到的问题。故选C项。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。由第四段中“By holding the International Dark-Sky Week, a yearly celebration of the night sky, the IDA is helping cities, communities and families do their part in helping make skies darker. (通过举办一年一度的夜空庆祝活动“国际黑暗天空周”,IDA正在帮助城市、社区和家庭尽自己的一份力量,让天空变得更暗)”可知,IDA为了改善我们的夜空,每年在特定的一周庆祝黑暗的天空。故选D项。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。由第五段中“Here are some simple steps we all can do that are easy and inexpensive (这里有一些简单的步骤,我们都可以做到,既简单又便宜)”可知,作者的写作目的是呼吁人们采取行动来保护夜空,所以目标读者是公众。故选B项。 D Positive affirmations (肯定) are an important part of the self-help industry, but there is a problem with standing in front of the mirror every morning and saying something like: “I will be the king of the world in just five days; I just know it.” It makes you feel kind of silly. What does research show about how high achievers really think? High achievers are often marked, unsurprisingly, by a strong motive (动机) to achieve. Achievement-motivated individuals have a strong desire to accomplish something important and gain satisfaction from success in demanding tasks. Consequently, they are willing to put in long-term efforts in the pursuit of their goals. Failure-avoiding individuals are more focused on protecting themselves from the embarrassment and sense of incompetence (无能力) that arise when a valued task fails. Consequently, they may give up quickly if success is not readily forthcoming. In situations where it is not possible to completely avoid the task, failure-avoiding individuals may give less than their best effort or engage in other self-handicapping (自我妨碍的) behaviors that provide a face-saving excuse in the event of failure. Generally, there are some core beliefs that differentiate achievement-motivated individuals. They tend to believe that initiative, effort and persistence are the key factors for success in accomplishing demanding tasks. They tend to see demanding tasks where success is uncertain as “challenges” or “opportunities”. They tend to associate effort with dedication, concentration, commitment and involvement. They tend to have a strong belief that they can improve their performance on demanding tasks with practice, training, coaching and dedication to learning and believe that continued effort and commitment will overcome initial failures. Once you understand the mindset of achievement-motivated individuals and failure-avoiding individuals, you can choose to cultivate (培养) the beliefs that will support you in achieving your goals. 32. What do achievement-motivated individuals desire to accomplish? A. Quick wins without much effort. B. Small tasks that are easy to manage. C. Important tasks that require cooperation. D. Significant things that bring satisfaction. 33. Which of the following behaviors is most likely displayed by a failure-avoiding individual? A. Trying but not committing fully. B. Avoiding the task altogether. C. Giving his/her best effort. D. Seeking help from others. 34. What is paragraph 4 mainly talking about? A. Strategies to avoid task failures. B. Techniques for boosting task performance. C. Characteristics of achievement-motivated individuals. D. Benefits of positive affirmations in personal development. 35. From which is the text probably taken? A. A health report. B. A psychology magazine. C. A research paper. D. A business guidebook. D 33. A 34. C 35. 由第二段中“Achievement-motivated individuals have a strong desire to accomplish something important and gain satisfaction from success in demanding tasks. (有成就动机的个人强烈渴望完成重要的事情,并从艰巨任务的成功中获得满足感)”可知,有成就动机的个人想要完成能带来满足感的重要事物。故选D项。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。由第三段中“In situations where it is not possible to completely avoid the task, failure-avoiding individuals may give less than their best effort or engage in other self-handicapping (自我妨碍的) behaviors that provide a face-saving excuse in the event of failure. (在无法完全避免任务的情况下,避免失败的人可能会不尽最大努力,或者从事其他自我设限行为,在失败的情况下提供一个保全面子的借口)”可知,避免失败的人最有可能表现出努力但没有完全投入的行为。故选A项。 由第四段“Generally, there are some core beliefs that differentiate achievement-motivated individuals. Perform stand-up comedy Stand-up is a type of comedy in which someone performs a series of jokes in front of a live audience. When I was a teenager, I did any odd job to afford time in a recording studio. I knocked at managers’ doors and sent out demo (录音样带) after demo, but I got nowhere. In 2010, aged 27, I was doing a job in a restaurant when I wrote a song called Dream Goes On. It was a song about never giving up. I just let out all of my frustrations at the keyboard. Over the next five years, the music career never materialized but I persisted. Then, in 2019, I uploaded Dream Goes On to a music-sharing website. I just wanted someone to notice my music. Later that year, I received an email out of the blue from Music World from South Korea, requesting a license for the song. They had chosen my song from the millions on the music-sharing website for a theme tune for one of their shows. I was amazed and negotiated a contract for $5,000 for the use of the song and signed up straight away. I was pretty excited, but didn’t think anything more would come of it, so I focused on my job in the restaurant. This February, Music World organized a musical festival in Seoul and my song Dream Goes On was also chosen as the theme tune for the festival. I watched on YouTube as my song was being played to a huge crowd of people. It was amazing. After three days of the festival, I was contacted by Music World and they asked if I’d like to go to Seoul to sing Dream Goes On in a concert. They flew me out there the next day. I was welcomed like a celebrity—everyone I met thought I was a big name in England. I had to break the news to them that I wasn’t a pop star. I had never performed the song live, and hadn’t been on stage for years. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After the concert, I had photographers and journalists battling to interview me. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】I had never performed the song live, and hadn’t been on stage for years. Seized by a strong sense of tension, I stood on the stage, seeing the huge cheers and a sea of lights below the stage. I was lost at the moment, holding the microphone tightly. I tried my best to collect myself and began to sing my own song which I had practiced hundreds of times. Looking back the years I had experienced as I sang on the stage, I realized that it is the opportunity that I had been waiting for the whole life. I kept myself full of enthusiasm as I was singing on the stage, showing the best to the audience. After the concert, I had photographers and journalists battling to interview me. With them around me, a long queue of fans were waiting to have their photograph taken with me. I was like a superstar and that night was like a real dream for me. I had knocked on doors for years, yet my moment came when the opportunity called me. Life can surprise you. It has reinspired my passion for music. This has made all the odd jobs and weekends spent in recording studios all worthwhile. 3.词类激活: 行为类: ①握住:hold/take hold of ②经历:experience/go through ③某人意识到:sb. realize that.../sb. be aware that... 情绪类: ①紧张:tension/nervousness ②冷静:collect oneself/calm…down 【点睛】【高分句型1】Seized by a strong sense of tension, I stood on the stage, seeing the huge cheers and a sea of lights below the stage.(运用了过去分词短语和现在分词短语作状语) 【高分句型2】I tried my best to collect myself and began to sing my own song which I had practiced hundreds of times.(运用了which引导的限制性定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 秘密★启用前 枣庄三中2024~2025学年度高二年级10月质量检测考试 英语试题 本试卷分第Ⅰ卷(选择题)和第Ⅱ卷(非选择题)两部分。 What does the woman ask the boy to do? C As a nature photographer, it’s easy for me to focus on the glow of spring sunrise, or the magic hour before a stunning sunset. 28. Why does the author mention his photos in paragraph 1? D Positive affirmations (肯定) are an important part of the self-help industry, but there is a problem with standing in front of the mirror every morning and saying something like: “I will be the king of the world in just five days; I just know it.” It makes you feel kind of silly. Perform stand-up comedy Stand-up is a type of comedy in which someone performs a series of jokes in front of a live audience Kids can create a stand-up comedy act to perform for family and friends or at a school or community talent show. ____36____ Here are some tips to help you get started. ____37____ A good first step in stand-up is watching other comedians. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
