Ⅰ. 阅读理解
For many years, scientists and animal lovers have worked to make the world safer for endangered species (濒危物种).Now, there is something that needs protection from these protected animals—a famous French cheese called Roquefort, known as the “King of Cheeses”.
Roquefort is made from sheep's milk in the southern part of the French mountains. Farmers have been making Roquefort for thousands of years, and they follow many rules when making it, to be sure that it is done in the traditional way. One of the rules is that they must let their sheep live freely in the mountains.
However, following these rules has become very dangerous. Wolves have moved into the area, and they have killed 62 sheep. The wolves are an endangered species, and have not been seen in the French mountains since the 1920s.No one is allowed to kill the wolves, but the farmers are now saying it is impossible for their sheep to live in the same mountains as the wolves. Farmers have dogs to protect the sheep and have also built electric fences (电栅栏), but they say they will not have enough money to continue making Roquefort once they have spent it all on keeping their sheep safe. Many people have said that wolves that attack sheep should be killed, since they have become a threat to the farmers' jobs. Others think that anyone who wants the wolves killed is trying to make them become extinct.
Maybe it would not be a problem if Roquefort became extinct instead, and the wolves were able to live in the mountains. But then the farmers would not have jobs. Will the people of Southern France be able to find a way that protects both the wolves and the King of Cheeses? Let's wait and see.

Honolulu is the capital and largest city of the US state of Hawaii, known as a best vacation spot for most Americans. In this capital city, you'll find everything from historic landmarks to fine dining to worldclass shopping. Stretching across the southeastern shores of the island, from Pearl Harbor to Makapuu Point and including worldfamous Waikiki Beach along the way, Honolulu is home to the majority of Oahu's population. Michael Anthony is one of them. Michael gets to call this place home. There's only one problem — he is homeless.
Unable to afford to live in his own place, he relies on the streets and beaches of this charming city to rest his head. He also takes advantage of the beautiful weather by playing baseball outside. He had a tough life but was happy and positive. Earning himself the nickname (绰号), “Baseball Mike”, many of his friends know where to find him — on the roof of a former parking garage. There, he practises his skills, in the hope of one day making it big.
On the very morning of this Friday, Mike was hitting some baseballs when he lost one in a narrow gap. After losing a total of six balls, he decided to go down after it. The space between the walls was so narrow that Mike wasn't sure how he could fit. But thinking those baseballs were some of his only belongings, Mike couldn't afford to lose them. He decided to go down to get them.
The 55yearold man made his way down the gap, but things quickly turned difficult. “I saw it was narrow at the bottom but I'm thin, very thin,” Mike said later. Moments later, the space was too small for him to fit, yet he kept going with his eye on his baseballs. As he went down a little lower and a little lower, he realized there might be no way coming back and he had actually got himself stuck between two walls. Mike felt worried.

Ⅲ. 读后续写 → 参考范文:
He began to think of all means to get out. Trying all his best and getting up by himself, Mike aimed at stepping back, but he even couldn't move a little, for the space between the walls was so narrow. He hoped that other baseball players would come and give him a hand. However, it was so early and not time for them to play outside. Also, being homeless meant he didn't have a cell phone. Having been trapped for almost one hour, he did the only thing he could think of — shouting loudly for help.
One passerby heard his shout and telephoned the police. The police station immediately sent some rescuers to the site. They communicated with Mike the entire time, initially tried lowering a rope but found he was unable to catch it. In a lastditch effort, they used concretecutting saws to break through one of the walls and create an opening. Eventually the policemen were able to free Mike successfully. Mike was taken to the nearest hospital at once. Thankfully, he recovered from the accident soon and began to play baseball again.
