I am terrified of heights. It’s not really a fear of being in a high place. Rather, it is the view of a long way to fall, of rocks far below me and no firm wall between me and the edge. Despite my fear, two summers ago I somehow found myself climbing to a high place. Most of our high school had come along on a day trip to the Boquerón, a gorgeous, lush spot in the foothills of Peru. Its prime attraction is the main waterfall, about 100 feet high, that thunders into a crystal clear pool feeding the Aguaytia River. After eating our sack lunches within sight and sound of the fall, many of us wanted to make the climb to an area above it. We knew others had done so on previous trips. We went along the base of the hill until we reached the climb. It stopped me in my tracks. The climb ascended steeply above us. Along the right edge, the jungle hugged the rocks; passage through its trees did not look feasible. The majority of my view was filled with rocks. Looming high to the sky, the boulders rose in a tiered manner. Peering back down toward the river, I saw a steep slope of rocks all the way to the water. All I could think about was how far it would be to fall. My tense thoughts were interrupted by the realization that my friends were already beginning to climb! My anxiety increased as I watched them. Looking back, My friend Seth was behind me. Do I turn back? My whole being shouted, “Yes!” Will I regret it later? While my friends marched forward, my instinct told me to retreat. The inner struggle raged inside me: either turn around and give in to my fears, or move on and face my deepest fears. The attraction of the summit fights the terror of the height. I voiced my uncertainties to my friends. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally we came to the worst section of the climbing. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2. Isla and I were studying in the same school. We had been friends since we were six years old. I took Isla as a smart, funny friend, but not all students at our school did, especially the girl students. Girls in our school wore fashionable clothes, but Isla’s old clothes and her curly hair and thick glasses made her look like a fish, which made her unpopular. For me, sometimes I felt embarrassed to be around Isla, particularly when students said rude words about her hair, clothes, glasses — even about the fact that she got really good grades. Isla always seemed not to care about what other students thought, but I couldn’t. I began to distance myself from her. Our school had a tradition — there was a talent show every spring. Students would sing, dance, play musical instruments, and do whatever they could to show their talents. Ava, who was an outgoing girl, invited me to be on her dance team. “We win the talent show every year, and we expect to win again this year,” Ava said to me excitedly. “We need a new dancer. But only you, not her!” Ava pointed to someone behind me. I didn’t need to turn around to see who she meant. “Oh, I see,” I said quietly.  Suddenly, I felt someone pat my shoulder. It was Isla. When I saw her confused face, it was like waking up from a dream. Isla asked me excitedly, “Emily, are you going to take part in the talent show?” I didn’t respond. “That’s great, Emily!” Isla told me without waiting for my answer that she was also going to take part this year. I couldn’t believe what I had heard. I started to worry about her when I imagined that she was in front of a huge crowd, and that everybody would laugh at her. Time passed quickly, and I had hardly seen Isla since then. For me, I had to practice hard every day with Ava and the team. Finally, it was my turn to perform, and I felt extremely nervous. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I left the stage and expressed my thanks to Isla, who was ready to sing. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 3. In June’s room stands a bright blue clay vase. Not a perfect or beautiful vase, it is broken in several places. It has been mended, but spiderlike cracks (裂痕) remain. It tells a story of two girls’ friendship. Amy and June met on a plane returning from Bangkok, where their fathers, business partners, attended meetings. June sat behind Amy. Midway, Amy hesitantly turned around and gave June a bright blue clay vase. It was a small gesture, but a simple friendship between two 4-year-olds was established. Years flew by. Amy and June grew up together, played together, studied together and became each other’s closest friend. However, people change as they grow up. Even the most special friendships can be destroyed. As Amy’s interest s broadened, she started to see loss and loss of June. Though hurt, Jun e tried to be understanding. She was still there for Amy when Amy needed support. But when she tried to bring up her difficulties, Amy brushed her off by saying, “Later.” June couldn’t take it anymore. So one day she invited Amy to her house, hoping to figure their problem out. Instead, a terrible quarrel broke out. “What am I to you? Your friend or just your little dog?” June cried. To her shock, Amy was defensive and screamed back. “June, I hate you!” With these words, Amy stormed out of June’s room, shutting the door hard behind her. A blue vase on the shelf jumped and fell onto the floor, crashing into several pieces. A friendship of ten years was broken, just like the vase. One year passed. It was June’s fifteenth birthday. Instead of feeling happy, June only felt depressed. She remembered her fourteenth birthday. It’d been a great one, and they’d been so happy. Bittersweet tears filled June’s eyes. She could still remember the image of four- year-old Amy holding out the blue vase to her. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. June jumped up and rushed to open the door. At the doorstep stood Amy, holding a small package. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Going to her room, June sat down on her bed and opened the gift. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 4. My friend Carole’s birthday was approaching and I wondered what to give her as a gift. I had two pots of beautiful flowers and I knew Carole liked flowers. However, the two pots of flowers were rare and I brought them from a forest very far away, which took me great effort. So, I hesitated. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky on one warm June morning when Carol e and I started out for a day of shopping. We had learned of a quilt (被子) shop which had unique quilts created by skilled women from a nearby company. Carole’s heart was set on finding a blue- and- white quilt to put the finishing touch on her guest bedroom. We parked the car next to the only traffic light in town, heading towards the quilt shop. But next door, a newly opened small store that sold pretty clothes, shoes, etc. attracted us. So we first walked into this store, where we admired the most wonderful collection of umbrella s we had ever seen. As I ran my fingers across one special umbrella, I heard myself whisper, “These are the most beautiful umbrellas...”I loved the items so much. A sales clerk hurried to my side. “Perhaps you’d like to try one of them out,” she suggested. I opened the attractive umbrella. Underneath it, I felt wonderfully carefree and sheltered from the whole world. But with new things to buy, there was no money for expensive umbrellas. Besides, even if I could afford one, it wouldn’t be a practical purchase. Back in the second grade, I had once eyed a beautiful, pink umbrella in a department store window. “I need a beautiful umbrella,” I said to my mother. “No, you need a practical umbrella,” she said. “Besides, you might lose it.” With tears in my eyes, I put down that pink umbrella! Coming back from my memory, I told the clerk, “Thanks for showing me the umbrella.” Then, I headed next door to the quilt shop, a few steps ahead of Carole. When her steps caught up with mine, I noticed a long, thin box under her arm. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Back home, I took the umbrella sent by Carole and walked towards my flowers. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ( 5 )原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究! Dear Mark, __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours sincerely, Li Hua 【答案】Dear Mark, I am sorry to know that you have problems getting along with your best friend. I am hardly in line with this opinion as I strongly/firmly believe true happiness in friendship lies not in quantity but in quality when it comes to interpersonal relationships. Having a smaller circle of close friends connects us more closely, enabling us to focus on developing deeper and more sincere connections within us. Besides, true friends are those who will be there for us when we face ups and downs in life and who will support us through thick and thin. On the contrary, it takes a great amount of time and energy to maintain the friendship among numerous friends, which is a waste to some extent. We need such friends who can point out our mistakes directly and who have the same life goals as us. Once I failed again and again in my math and lost interest in it, it was my best friend who encouraged me not to give up and offered help in time. With his kind and selfish help, I gradually caught up with others. So I say we need friends but what we most need is a friend that can rich our life. 词汇积累 指出:point out→indicate 直接:directly→straight away 目标:goal→target 提供:offer→provide 2. So I say we need friends but what we most need is a friend that can rich our life. So I say though we need friends, what we most need is a friend who can rich our life. 【点睛】[高分句型1] Once I failed again and again in my math and lost interest in it, it was my best friend who encouraged me not to give up and offered help in time.(运用了once引导的状语从句和强调句) [高分句型2] So I say we need friends but what we most need is a friend that can rich our life. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: I voiced my uncertainties to my friends. They dismissed my fears and encouraged me to stick it out. Questioning my own wisdom, I decided at least to attempt the climb. Consoling myself that my friend Seth would be right behind me, I shakily began the ascent. My friends kept right on climbing. But they did not forget me. Someone was always behind me to help hold my feet steady when necessary, and someone else was always ahead to offer a hand up. I was soon past the first challenge safely. Finally we came to the worst section of the climbing. To me the slope looked very close to vertical. The slight handholds were few and far between. With fear and trembling, I made my way ahead slowly. My friends waited patiently, not pressuring me to hurry. Instead Seth supported my foot, and those above sent down words of encouragement. I kept on climbing painstakingly even with my heart in my mouth. Finally, I was dirty and sweaty. But none of it mattered. I was on the top! 词汇激活 行为类 ①消除:dismiss/ eliminate/ remove ②鼓励:encourage/ inspire ③帮助某人:offer a hand up/give sb. a hand/ do sb. a favor 情绪类 ①耐心:patiently / with patient ②害怕:fear/ anxiety 【点睛】【高分句型1】Consoling myself that my friend Seth would be right behind me, I shakily began the ascent. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】    Finally, it was my turn to perform, and I felt extremely nervous. I didn’t want to be regarded as different from the others. Isla walked to me and hugged me tightly. “Come on, Emily!” Isla encouraged me. “I believe you will do great because you are a wonderful dancer. Don’t care too much about what others think. Just trust yourself." Soon, I took my place on the stage. I remembered every step and every move. When the music was over, the crowd burst into cheers. At that moment, I felt like a dancing queen! I left the stage and expressed my thanks to Isla, who was ready to sing. I was a little worried at the beginning because the crowd became restless. Luckily, Isla ignored it. I stood up, shouting, “Isla, you are the best!” Her homemade dress was shining in the light, but her eyes were clouded with tears. When Isla’s singing died down, all the students were still lost in her unique voice. Some even began singing like her, and then more. Their singing resounded around the hall. I rushed to the stage after her performance, hugging her cheerfully. That was enough! We could never be distanced. 词汇激活 行为类 ①被认为:be regarded as/be viewed as ②拥抱某人:hug sb./embrace sb. ③站起来:stand up/rise up 情绪类 ①担心的:worried/concerned ②幸运地:luckily/fortunately 【点睛】【高分句型1】I believe you will do great because you are a wonderful dancer.(运用了because引导的原因状语从句 ) 【高分句型2】Don’t care too much about what others think.(运用了what引导的宾语从句) 3. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 At the doorstep stood Amy, holding a small package. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Going to her room, June sat down on her bed and opened the gift. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】At the doorstep stood Amy, holding a small package. They stood awkwardly for a moment before Amy handed over the package. “I know we haven’t talked in a while, but I wanted to give you this,” Amy said, her voice trembling slightly. June took the package, feeling a mix of emotions. A few minutes,Amy left. Going to her room, June sat down on her bed and opened the gift. It was a notebook. Attached to it was a note that read, “Dear June, I'm sorry. I hope we can still be best friends” June finally felt relieved. She called Amy and then they decided to repair the vase together. That's why the vase told the story of two girls and a friendship. 词汇激活 行为类 ①修理:repair /fix ②想要做某事:want to do/would like to do ③希望:hope/wish ④决定:decide/determine 情绪类 ①紧张的:nervous/stressed ②尴尬地:awkwardly/ embarrassedly 【点睛】[高分句型1] June took the package, feeling a mix of emotions. 注意:Ⅰ.续写词数应为150个左右;2.请按如下格式作答。 When her steps caught up with mine, I noticed a long, thin box under her arm. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Back home, I took the umbrella sent by Carole and walked towards my flowers. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】When her steps caught up with mine, I noticed a long, thin box under her arm. “What’s that?” I asked, curious. Carole smiled mysteriously and handed me the box. “Open it,” she said. Inside was the very umbrella I had admired in the store. “Happy early birthday!” Carole exclaimed. I was speechless. “But… how did you know?” I stammered. “I saw the way you looked at it,” she replied. “I wanted to give you something special, just like you always do for me.” Tears welled up in my eyes as I hugged her tightly. “Thank you, Carole. This means so much to me.” Back home, I took the umbrella sent by Carole and walked towards my flowers. I realized that the joy of giving was far greater than the effort it took to obtain those flowers. With a smile, I carefully dug up one of the pots and placed it in a beautiful gift bag. The next day, I visited Carole and handed her the bag. “Happy birthday, Carole,” I said. Her eyes lit up as she saw the rare flowers. “These are beautiful! Thank you so much!” she exclaimed. As we sat together, admiring our gifts, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for our friendship and the simple joys it brought into our lives. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拥抱:hug /embrace ②喜欢、羡慕:admire/ be crazy about ③放置:place /put ④获得:obtain/gain 情绪类 ①感激:gratitude /appreciate ②快乐:happiness/joy 【点睛】[高分句型1] As we sat together, admiring our gifts, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for our friendship and the simple joys it brought into our lives.
