Little did he know that this change would take him farther than 500,000 kilometers — all on trains. Inspired by a movie he had watched online, Stolley bought a Bahncard 100, a ticket that allows unlimited (无限制的) travel on all Deutsche Bahn trains in Germany for a year. But Stolley didn’t just travel on those trains. He made his home on trains, living there full-time. During the day, he took trips and at night, he slept across the seats on high-speed trains. “I can decide every day where I want to go, whether to the Alps, to a big city or to the sea,” Stolley said. Each morning, Stolley would check the train connections for the day, and decide what journeys he would take based on the weather and his mood (心情). He might stop off at a swimming pool for a shower, or enjoy the views with a hike between train rides. While he didn’t pay rent, Stolley said that he had spent around $10,000 a year on living expenses, including his $6,400 train pass and entry cost to things like swimming pools. But since Stolley was a “Platinum” Deutsche Bahn customer, he could eat from Deutsche Bahn for free. To cover his extra cost, he made a buck on the move by working as a programmer from his laptop (手提电脑). In 2023 alone, Stolley spent over 3,700 hours on trains. He also took trains across Europe with an Interrail pass, and travelled as far as Ankara in Turkey. All of his adventures were recorded on his online blog, named “Life on the Train”. 4. What drove Stolley’s interest in travelling by train? A. A lesson. B. A book. C. A ticket. D. A film. 5. Why was Stolley’s journey special? A. He lived on trains. B. He never got off the same train. C. His train journey lasted over a year. D. He didn’t spend any money. 6. What do the underlined words “a buck” in the last paragraph refer to? A. A choice. B. Paper. C. A difference. D. Money. 7. Which word can best describe Stolley? A. Honest. B. Adventurous. C. Easygoing. D. Warmhearted. C It usually takes a generation or two to measure the full effects of changes in technology and the influence that these changes have on our lives. We have just gone through another industrial revolution (变革) with the creation of the Internet. You wouldn’t know life before the Internet, but it is very different now. Just like when I was a kid, I wouldn’t have known what life was like before television. However, the fact is that we are seeing what is happening now before our very eyes. It is all mostly good, but some of it has a bad influence as well. The past years has seen the rise of social media as the source of communication and information. Our little handheld phones have become our window to the world round the clock, where people can share experiences with others all around the planet. But as with most things, we have seen the downsides of social media. The spreading of false news, online bullying (欺凌), and unpleasant images are just some of the downsides. We are seeing young people losing themselves in their screens by checking things on social media or having thoughts of self-harm. Older generations say “just turn off the phone”, but they don’t realize that young people are conditioned to live in that online world and it is impossible to turn it off. That is why the government is now looking for the prevention by different means. And one of them is raising the age limits for social media users. But how would that work? I find it fun to think that my older Boomer generation is going to try to block social media access and outsmart these teens. We know who will win that one! But as I said at the start, we are seeing the effects of this technology after a couple of generations and we need to do something about it. 8. What is the author’s opinion about the revolution caused by the Internet? A. It will last for a short time. B. It has more bad influences. C. We can do nothing about it. D. We can see it shaping our life. 9. What is an advantage of mobile phones according to the text? A. They make it easy to travel alone. B. They are quite cheap. C. They keep us connected at all times. D. They create new ideas. 10. What does the author want to show by mentioning online bullying? A. The serious health risk. B. The danger of social media. C. The mistakes students make. D. The false news on the Internet. 11. What might the author continue talking about? A. Other harm prevention measures. B. The reason why we take action. C. Parents’doubts about social media. D. The role the Internet can play. D The monarch butterfly (帝王蝶) population has dropped to its second-lowest number on record in Mexican forests this winter. The forests are the insects’ (昆虫) winter home. Their population is now worrisome as the butterfly group is already considered at risk of disappearance. Mexico’s government and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) recently made public the findings of their yearly joint study on the butterflies. The research shows that the monarch butterfly presence has dropped to less than a hectare of forest area. In the mid-1990s, monarch butterflies could be found on around 18 hectares of the forest. The findings show an almost 60 percent drop in the monarch butterfly population compared to last year’s study. It is also the second-lowest population finding since the first study took place more than thirty years ago. Biologists believe the serious situation is caused by the higher-than-usual temperatures and dry conditions in the northwestern US where the butterfly reproduces. The weather conditions have an influence on the growth of milkweed, the plant where the butterflies lay their eggs. When the young arrive, milkweed is their food for a time. In one of the planet’s famous wildlife migrations (迁徙), the butterflies travel south as far as 4,500 kilometers from places as far north as Canada. They spend the winter in warmer Mexico, where millions of the insects stay in trees that protect them from the rain and cold. Monarch butterfly populations change year to year. As recently as 2021, the same study showed a 35% increase to cover around 2.8 hectares. Scientists called for more action to help the insects. Such calls included the need to use less herbicides that may present a danger to milkweed and the need to protect forests. “We can’t lower our guard,” said Jorge Rickards, head of WWF’s Mexico office. 12. How does hot weather influence the monarch butterflies? A. They fly to as far as Canada. B. They likely have less to eat. C. They stop living in tall trees. D. They have to feed more babies. 13. We can know that Mexican forests in winter ________. A. are free from rain B. are full of tourists C. are rich in wildlife D. are often very cold 14. What do scientists suggest about monarch butterflies? A. Taking more steps to protect them. B. Stopping them eating more leaves. C. Studying them as much as possible. D. Checking their number quickly. 15. Which is the most suitable title for the text? A. A New-found Insect in Mexican Forests B. The Purpose of the World Wildlife Fund C. The Secret of Monarch Butterflies’ Travel D. A Big Fall in Monarch Butterfly Population 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Family meetings are a good way to improve communication among all family members. The woman was guided to the headmaster’s office, and settled in a comfortable chair. She explained how David had helped her find the lost wallet and the importance of the paper in it. With a look of deep respect, the headmaster said, “I am proud of what David, you and your grandmother did. I promise to help you find the student you are looking for.” Surprisingly, with the information on the paper, they found that the student being supported was exactly David. With excitement, the woman requested to meet David again to deliver this last gift in person. The headmaster led the woman to David’s classroom to give him the gift. The headmaster knocked at the door and went in with the woman. “Excuse me,” the headmaster began, as the students turned their curious gazes towards him. “I have someone very special with me who has a story to share with you all.” With a smile, the woman explained the whole unexpected event in detail. Turning to David, the woman said, “You are a kind boy who deserves all.” Applause for the turn of kindness broke out in the classroom. 听力答案:1~5 BCACB 6~10 BACBA 11~15 ABACC 16~20 ABCAB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
