1. Have students discuss and choose the area and event they are interested in, and
answer the following questions.
(1) Which area and event would your group like to research?
We are going to do research on the outdoor activities for children held by the local
community last week.
(2) Why do you want to research this event?
Because it was the first time for the local children to attend such activities.
2. Have students review what they have learned about news reports and answer the
following questions.
(1) What is the structure of a news report?
A news report is written in the structure of an inverted pyramid. It usually begins with the
lead, followed by important details, and then the least important ones. If necessary, the
background of the event or other supporting information can be added in too.
(2) What would be your priority in your news report? Why?
We would put our priority on how the activities made the local children happy, as we
believe that outdoor activities should play a bigger role in developing entertainment for children.
