I visited China after COVID-19 travel restrictions(限制) were lifted in December 2022, and between February and April 2023,I made three business trips to the country, including visiting a number of research institutes(研究机构), holding meetings with Chinese scientists, and taking part in science conferences. I am therefore one of those foreigners who have firsthand experience of life in China after the relaxation of the travel restrictions.
One of my three visits to China was during the Spring Festival, a time when the Chinese people travel back to their hometown for family re union dinner on the eve of the Lunar New Year. According to Chinese media, 226 million trips were made during the seven- day Spring Festival Golden Week holiday, an increase of 74 percent from 2022, with consumer spending increasing by 12.2 percent. No wonder the Chinese economy (经济) grew by 5 percent in the first quarter of this year.
I traveled between cities by high- speed trains as well as domestic(国内的) flights. Everywhere I went, I saw the usual hustle and bustle of life in the streets and shopping malls, while the roads were full of traffic. Restaurants were always full, so in a city in Zhejiang we had to wait for two hours before we could get a table for dinner. Those were all clear signs of economic recovery after three years of strict pandemic prevention and control measures.
What is extraordinary, though, is how China managed to achieve this in a relatively short period of time. Although the Western media focuses on the“ abruptness” of China's decision to remove the restrictions, the transition(转变) has obviously been peaceful. In response to the pandemic, China struck a balance between prevention and control measures and economic development. It minimized the pandemic's impacts on peoples’ daily lives and overall development in the society. The move was science- based , timely and necessary, and reflected the responsibility of the government.
34. Why did the writer come to China after the restrictions?
A. To visit research institutes. B. To hold meetings with Chinese scientists.
C. To take part in science meetings. D. To make business trips in China.
35. Which writing skill does the writer use in Para.2 ?

C. Raising questions. D. Using sayings.
36. What kind of life does the underlined phrase mean in Para.3?
A. Busy. B. Messy. C. Strange. D. Boring.
37. What is the writer's attitude toward decision of Chinese government?
A. Positive. B. Negative. C. Indifferent. D. Worried.

What is the difference between a fear and a phobia? You might have a fear of dogs if a dog has bitten you. However, if you avoid walking down streets where you think there might be a dog, you may have a phobia, which is a strong unnatural fear. If the fear has started to change a person's life, he or she probably has a phobia. Different researches say that between 10 and 80 percent of us have at least one phobia.
You can probably guess what some of the most“ popular” phobias are. Flying may be the safest way to travel, but many people are scared of doing it. Fear of heights is also very common. For example, Spider- Man actor Tobey Maquire can't stand high places. However, Tobey is not afraid of spiders that most people are afraid of. Rupert Grint, who plays in the Harry Potter movies, is in fear of spiders.“ In one scene of the movie, we come into the large spider’s hole, and there we meet a spider that is the size of an elephant and really scary because he has these hairs. I'm really scared of spiders. " He said.
. For example, cats are very cute for most of us, but not for such great people in history as Alexander the Great and Napolean Bonaparte. Actor Nicole Kidman says,“I'm not scared of snakes or spiders, but I'm scared of butterflies. Sometimes when I came home from school, the biggest butterfly you had ever seen would be just sitting on our front gate. I would climb over the wall, move slowly to the side of the house, or do anything to avoid having to go through the front gate.” Clowns (小丑) are not so funny for actor Johnny Depp, whose childhood memory of the“ painted faces and fake smiles” still makes him scared. Some other weird(怪诞的) phobias, including chewing gum, old doors or windows and footsteps, also fear some famous persons, such as Orah Winfred, Billy Bob and Sigmund Fred.
42. Rupert Grint who acted in Harry Potter has a fear of .
A. dogs B. snakes C. spiders D. butterflies
43. Which or the following behaviors(行为) can be a phobia for these persons?
A. Tony cannot sleep well before the exams.
B. Becky doesn't like keeping a pet cat at home.
C. Linda feels very tired after climbing the mountains.
D. Gina shouts crazily whenever hearing footsteps at mountains.
44. Which of the following is the best for“ ” in Paragraph 3?
A. Some people have unusual phobias
B. Phobias are not very serious problems
C. No research reports what causes phobias
D. Common things are easier to cause phobias
45. What can we know about ph obias according to the passage?
A. People are born with phobias.
B. Phobias mean nothing to people's life.
C. Phobias are common in our daily life
D. Famous people are easier to get phobias.
