"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish,by its ability to climb a tree,it will live its
whole life believing that it is stupid."---Albert Einstein
If you have a kid with special needs in the school system, you're likely to have come across
that saying hanging on a classroom wall.My five-year-old daughter Syona has cerebral palsy (
and it means, combined with her communication and sight problems, that normal standard isn't
always an accurate measure of her abilities.
By now you have probably heard about Chris Ulmer, the 26-year old teacher in Jacksonville,
Florida, who starts his special education class by calling up each student to give them much
admiration and a high-five.I couldn't help but be reminded of Syona's teacher and how she supports
each kid in a very similar way.Ulmer recently shared a video of his teaching experience."I have seen
their confidence increase rapidly."he said. All I could think was:how lucky these students are to have
such good teachers.
Syona's teacher has an attitude that can best be summarized in one word:wonderful. Her
teacher doesn't focus on what can't be done---she focuses on what can be done.Over the past several
months,my husband Dilip and I have seen Syona's confidence increase greatly. She uses words she
wouldn't have thought of using before. She recently told me about her classmates trip to Ecuador and
was very proud when I understood her on the first try.
I actually wonder what the influence would be if we did something similar to what Ulmer does
with his students in our home. We've recently started our day by reminding each other of the good
qualities we all have.If we are reminded of our strengths on a regular basis,we will become
increasingly confident about progress and success.
24.What does the author think of Albert Einstein's saying?
A.Funny.B.True.
C.Strange.
D.Confusing.
25.What can we leamn about Syona's teacher?
A.She is Syona's favorite teacher.
B.She puts Einstein's quote on the wall
C.She uses videos to teach her students.
D.She helps increase her students'confidence.
26.What change has taken place in the author's family?
A.They've invited Ulmer's students to their home.
B.They visit Ulmer's classroom regularly.
C.They give each other praise every day.
D.They feel thankful to people in their lives.
27.What is the author's attitude towards Chris Ulmar's way of teaching?
A.Supportive B.Opposed
C.Indifferent
D.Negative

Are online friendships "real"friendships? It's reasonable to suspect that online friendships
would share some benefits of face-to-face friendships but not others, and several studies have put
that idea to the test.
英语试题4
One study published by researchers from UC San Diego,Northeastern University,Harvard
University and Yale University suggests that online social activity, like face-to-face interactions,
is associated with better health and longer life.
It found that several types of social media activity were linked to reduced death rate. The
strongest correlation was for activities like posting photos that were related to in-person social
interactions.Activities unrelated to in-person interactions,like messaging,were associated with
death rate non-linearly-that is,people who engaged in these activities in moderation (
were the least likely to die, with people who engaged the most and least frequently having a
higher death rate.
Online friendships can also provide a lifeline for people who struggle to find social support in
real life.Different studies have found that online friendships have advantages for deaf and hard
of hearing, and lonely and socially anxious youth.Online conversations contributed to their sense
of belonging and their openness in sharing personal thoughts. However,it's not good news across
the board about online interactions.Perhaps unsurprisingly, prioritizing online friendships and
spending more time communicating online has been linked to a higher risk for Internet addiction.
Altogether, these findings suggest that a healthy balance between online and offline social
interactions is best.In the words of the authors who published the study looking at deaf and hard
of hearing(D/HH)students'online friendships:A combination of online and offline friendship
seems to be the most important friendship type for both hearing and D/HH students and it is
worthwhile to encourage this friendship type.
28.What does the test focus on according to paragraphs 1-2?
A.Whether online friendships have some benefits.
B.How face-to-face friendships affect our behaviors.
C.Connections between online activities and longer life.
D.Differences between online friendships and face-to face ones.
29.What does the underlined word"correlation"in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Proof.
B.Analysis.
C.Reflection.
D.Association.
30.Which is an advantage of online friendships for D/HH teenagers?
A.A chance to express themselves.
B.The ability to develop social skills.
C.The access to latest news worldwide
D.An approach to practicing using the Internet.
31.Which of the following does the author agree with most?
A.Online friendships are less suitable to D/HH students.
B.D/HH students shouldn't spend time on online friendships.
C.A balance between online and offline friendships is a must.
D.Online friendships have more disadvantages than advantages.

Traveling without a map in different countries,I find out about different ways of directions every
time I ask"How can I get to the post office?"
英语试题5
Foreign tourists are often puzzled in Japan because most streets there don't have name signs. In
Japan, people use landmarks (in their directions instead of street names. For example, the
Japanese will say to travelers,"Go straight down to the corner.Turn left at the big hotel and go past a
fruit market. The post office is across from the bus stop."
People in Los Angeles, the US,have no idea of distance on the map:they measure distance by
time,not miles..“How far away is the post office??”you ask..“oh,”they answer,,it's about five
minutes from here."You don't understand completely,"Yes,but how many miles away is it,please?"
To this question you won't get an answer, because most probably they don't know it themselves
People in Greece sometimes do not even try to give directions because tourists seldom
understand the Greek language.Instead,a Greek will often say,"Follow me."Then he'll lead you
through the streets of the city to the post office.
Sometimes a person doesn't know the answer to your question. What happens in the situation?A
New Yorker might say,"Sorry,I have no idea."But in Yucatan,Mexico,no one answers "I don't
know."People there believe that"I don't"is impolite.They usually give an answer,but often a wrong
one.So a tourist can get lost very easily in Yucatan! However, one thing will help you everywhere in
the world.It's body language.
32.Which of the following is probably an example of Japanese directions?
A."The post office is at Street Kamira."
B."Turn right at the hospital and go past a school."
C."The post office is about five minutes from here."
D."Go south two miles.Turn west and then go another mile."
33.Why don't people in Los Angeles give directions in miles?
A.They prefer to lead you the way.
B.They prefer to use body language.
C.They often have no idea of distance measured by miles.
D.They use landmarks in their directions instead of distance.
24.How do Greeks give directions?
A.Using street names.
B.Using landmarks.
C.Leading people the way.
D.Giving people a wrong direction.
85.What will probably be talked about next Paragraph?
A.The importance of a map.
B.The situation in London.
C.Different languages in Japan.
D.The use of body language.
