B Born in 1928, Eugenio Monti, was the best young Italian skier of his generation. He became known as the Flying Redhead and won several national titles, but in 1951 an accident called an end to his skiing career. It was then that he switched to bobsleigh. In 1954 he won his first Italian championship and started to dominate the sport in Italy and be a force internationally for more than a decade. However, Monti is more widely remembered as the first athlete to be awarded the Pierre de Coubertin Medal for sportsmanship displayed during the 1964 Winter Olympic Games. At the 1964 Games in Innsbruck, Austria, Monti and his partner Sergio Siorpaes were the defending world champions, which made them favourites in the two-man event. Monti was desperate to add Olympic golds to his medal collection because he was 36 years old then and had already suffered serious problems with his knees, arguably running out of time to achieve his Olympic dreams. But they were in heated competition with the British team of Anthony Nash and Robin Dixon. After two runs on the first day, the British led the field. On day two, however, a faulty axle(车轴)on the sled would have been sure to lead to their withdrawal, if it weren’t for Monti offering to lend them the bolt(螺栓)from his sled. The British pair went on to record the fastest time on that final run and won gold by just 0.12 seconds, while Monti and Siorpaes claimed the bronze. Four days later, in the four-man event, Monti’s selflessness towards his fellow competitors shone through for a second time when the rear axle on the Canadian team’s sled was damaged. Monti sent the Italian team’s mechanics to repair it, with the consequence that the Canadian team won gold, with Monti having to settle for another bronze. Monti was recognised with the Pierre de Coubertin Medal for sportsmanship after the 1964 Winter Games. And four years later, at the age of 40, at the 1968 Games in Grenoble, Monti finally fulfilled his dream of being an Olympic champion. 24. What can be learned about Eugenio Monti from the passage? A. He completely failed to achieve medals at the 1964 Winter Games. B. He had achieved national and international golds in skiing before 1951. C. He helped Anthony Nash and Robin Dixon twice in Innsbruck, Austria. D. He was awarded the first Pierre de Coubertin Medal for sportsmanship. 25. What does the underlined word “favourites” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Sportsmen who have a strong fan base. B. Competitors who are expected to win. C. Athletes who receive better treatments. D. Players who are liked better by people. 26. What can best describe Eugenio Monti according to the passage? A. Generous and selfless. B. Curious and adaptable. C. Responsible and courageous. D. Persevering and hardworking. 27. What might be the best title for the text? A. Eugenio Monti—the Flying Redhead B. Eugenio Monti—An Olympic Legend C. Eugenio Monti—A Real Bobsleigh Champion D. Eugenio Monti—An Athlete with Sportsmanship. C There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that the influence of the media is growing stronger and stronger as time passes by. If you have noticed, the speed at which news travels around the world has become faster with the development and advancement in technology. Media are actually influencing people in different ways. Whether you admit it or not, watching movies and programs on the television or our laptop, iPad and other mobile devices as we relax takes us away into this different kingdom—that is, there are parts in our being that feel we are the ones in the movie and sometimes we even feel what they are feeling as we get caught up in the emotional excitement. The effect of the media does not stop when the movie or program ends. And this effect might just be the cause of behavioral changes in people. With action films, children tend to follow the movie hero, leading them to violent(暴力的)acts, thinking that it is acceptable because his hero became successful in the end. There are cartoon programs that show acts of violence and dishonest acts against others. In return, children tend to copy the characters and think that cheating other people is a way to deal with their problems. They learn to transfer these bad behaviors to friends. There are some television shows and movies that attempt to create an atmosphere to change the view of people towards social issues such as racial discrimination(种族歧视). In the minds of other people, the effect can be for the better, but some, unfortunately, for the worse. There have been instances in the past where young people have drunk drive copying their favorite actress. There was also a case where somebody set a subway ticket booth on fire because he saw it in his favorite film. These are just a few examples of the disturbing influence of the media on people’s behavior. An explanation for these acts is that these people could not distinguish fantasy from reality. They get caught up in the kingdom of what they have been watching and the images and scenes become deeply rooted in their minds. So the media is largely responsible for giving people false ideas and unhealthy pictures, which lead to misbehavior against other people, and can create a dangerous cycle among individuals as they attempt to do the same or even worse things to others. The sad reality is that no one is turning off their televisions or disconnecting from these influences. The only way to change is when people no longer buy into it, demand it, and watch it. 28. What does the author want to tell us in paragraph 2? A. What it is that changes our emotions. B. How media affect people’s behavior. C. Why we are attracted to movies and programs. D. Whether people feel being taken away from reality. 29. Why do some people act badly, according to the author? A. They are just the violent people. B. They hope to solve social problems. C. They actually can’t tell fantasy from reality. D. They want to change people’s attitudes towards the media. 30. What’s the author’s attitude towards the media? A. Puzzled. B. Critical. C. Supportive. D. Cautious. 31. The author supports his ideas mainly by ________. A. making comparisons and giving examples B. listing facts and giving research results C. raising problems and providing solutions D. showing facts and presenting explanations D People are motivated to try a vegetarian(素食的)diet for different reasons—from ethical and religious, to potential health and environmental benefits. But many people have a hard time sticking to it. In fact, studies show many self-reported vegetarians actually do consume some animal products. “A lot of people who want to be vegetarian are perhaps not able to,” says Dr. Nabeel Yaseen, of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. “We wanted to know if genetics(遗传学)is part of the reason,” he says. Yaseen and his team members compared the DNA of about 330,000 people. They found 34 genes that may play a role in sticking to a strict vegetarian diet. And they identified 3 genes that are more tightly linked to the feature. “What we can say is that these genes(基因)have something to do with vegetarianism,” Yaseen says. “Perhaps vegetarians have different variants of these genes that make them able to choose a strict vegetarian diet,” he explains. The study is published in PLOS ONE, a peer-reviewed science journal. Interpreting the genetic role is not exactly an easy task to complete. Humans have thousands of genes and there are millions of tiny variations(变异)in DNA building blocks, known as single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs), where you can see differences between individuals. To identify SNPs that are connected with the particular feature of sticking to a vegetarian diet, Yaseen and his workmates did a genome-wide connection study. When they found a SNP connected with vegetarianism, they looked to see the genes around it in the same area. Of the three genes most strongly connected with vegetarianism, the authors say two of them(known as NPC1 and RMC1)have important functions in lipid- or fat- metabolism. The study can’t answer exactly how genetic differences could shape or influence vegetarians, but Dr. Yaseen has some ideas. His research has disclosed many unknown aspects of genetics. 32. Why did Dr. Nabeel Yaseen research vegetarians? A. To understand the health benefits of vegetarianism. B. To investigate genetics in vegetarian devotion. C. To study the environmental impact of vegetarianism. D. To explore the cultural aspects of vegetarianism. 33. What can we learn about genes from Yaseen’s study? A. They have the same variations. B. They determine vegetarian fat. C. They may influence vegetarianism. D. They play no role in dietary choices. 34. What is the author’s attitude to Yaseen’s findings? A. Critical. B. Appreciative. C. Unconcerned. D. Doubtful. 35. What is the best title for the text? A. The Benefits of Vegetarianism B. The Diet Research on Vegetarians C. Challenges in Maintaining a Vegetarian Diet D. The Role of Genetics in Vegetarian Devotion Competition is a huge part of our culture. We encourage our athletes to secure victory on the field. 36 Sportsmanship is an essential trait of a strong athlete. Here are a few tips on how you can help your little athlete experience a loss just as gracefully as he/she can experience a victorious win. Focus on improvement, rather than on the win. Instead of focusing on the winning of the game, motivate your child to focus on individual or collective improvement. 37 Make mention of how well the team executed a play on the field. In doing this, your child will learn to see the value in the entire experience. Be a role model. As parents, it can be difficult to keep quiet, especially after the loss of a game, but when the game is over, your child is observing how you respond to every win and every loss. Therefore, it is essential to demonstrate a positive attitude after each game. Be the role model that your child needs in order to achieve greatness on and off the field. 38 39 Victory instills excitement and pride. After a win, however, sportsmanship is a vital part of a young athlete’s journey. Enthusiastically encourage your child to shake hands with his/her opponent. Teach them that once the final play of the game is over, the opposing team is no longer a rival, but rather their peers. 40 The practice of shifting focus from winning enables your child to appreciate other valuable elements of the game. A. Encourage sportsmanship. B. Ignore victory intentionally. C. Win with humility, lose with grace, and do both with dignity. D. Inspire your child to reflect on what skills he/she has improved. E. However, it is important to teach children to gracefully win and lose. F. Each of your demonstrations in life is a teachable moment for your child! G. Additionally, encourage your child to learn from some of the strengths of the other team. About five days ago, my back started tightening in the middle region. I was desperate to find a cure. For those of you who have experienced this pain, I can sense you silently nodding in agreement, while for those of you who have not experienced it, it is by no means an overstatement to say that the experience is suffering. I had tried everything. Unfortunately, nothing worked as a continuous cure for my unfortunate painful condition. In my hopelessness, my father told me to try acupuncture(针灸), which he had experienced once in Hong Kong. It had helped cure his lower back when no other forms of therapy or medicine had worked. I had no idea about acupuncture and had never experienced traditional Chinese medicine before. With no expectations due to my previous disappointments in my search for a treatment, I went on my journey of acupuncture, and soon found myself in a middle-aged woman’s office which was surrounded by Chinese herbal medicines. After I sat myself down on the patient’s chair, she asked me why I had come in. Then, she placed three fingers on my wrist and silently felt my pulse. I was then taken to a room and told to lie down. Soon, she took out the needles, which made me quite worried because such objects make me uneasy. The initial procedure of receiving acupuncture proved to be quite surprising. To address my migraines, acupuncture was first administered to the back of my hand, which is nowhere near my head. The feeling was quite unexpected too: as the doctor carefully tapped and twisted the needle in, I did not sense the needle itself, but rather an effect that rippled(起伏)throughout my entire body. The doctor then continued to tap and twist more needles throughout my entire body: head, face, stomach, legs, arms, and toes. The entire process was over in 20 minutes. She then gave some herbal medicine to me to drink every day for five days. Paragraph 1: I returned to the doctor for a total of 10 times. ______________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Acupuncture did change my life. _________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 附录 鉴于最近几年江苏部分地区或学校在期中考试中有非新高考题型考查的情况,笔者以“附录”的形式提供如下题目,供用户选用。 Smith suggested that our teachers should ________(提倡)inferring the meaning of a new word from the text, instead of consulting the dictionary. 2.If you are in need of a deadline ________(延长), simply explain the situation to your professor. 3.With ________(共同) efforts, a library with ten reading rooms was built last year. 4.The teacher ________(删除)several unimportant words from his composition. 5.In the last ten years, the whole world has w________ China’s amazing achievements in reducing poverty. 6.Her speech was so wonderful that she was a________ for a full five minutes after it. 7.Misunderstanding a________ from lack of communication, unless handled properly, may lead to serious problems. 8.This discovery was p________ as a major breakthrough. (每题0.5分) 1.To be honest, my ________ is not limitless, so I will not be always ________ of your rude behavior.(tolerate) 2.The matter is the subject of a police ________(investigate), and we have been advised not to comment. 3.Basing his ________(conclude) on the evidence he collected on the spot, he proved that the suspect was to blame for the accident. 4.The council has organised a series of events and ________(compete)for school children in the area. 5.Don’t make any noise. Paragraph 1: I returned to the doctor for a total of 10 times.___________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 2: Acupuncture did change my life._____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 附录 鉴于最近几年江苏部分地区或学校在期中考试中有非新高考题型考查的情况,笔者以“附录”的形式提供如下题目,供用户选用。 Smith suggested that our teachers should ________(提倡)inferring the meaning of a new word from the text, instead of consulting the dictionary. Scientists are now working on a new model with one important improvement — it will be able to play seabird songs. 8. A 9. C 10. B 【原文】 W: Hi, Mark. I got a text from my cousin Sam in Los Angeles. He’ll have enough time to come into town before his flight to Athens. M: That’s really fun. I did it once in Amsterdam. So, what time will he be here? W: He’ll probably get into town by about 12:30. But I’ve got a maths exam at 2:00, so Sam’s going to be on his own until 4 o’clock. M: I’m sure he’ll be fine. If the weather is good, maybe he’ll want to explore Hyde Park before meeting you. But I decided I wanted to do my own project this time. So I researched ideas on the Internet. I decided on a bicycle generator because it’s really useful. I can use it to power my computer. M: So, how did you build it? W: First, I found plans for generators. I chose a simple design and made a first draft of the project. Then, my dad made some suggestions and I made another draft. After that, I started to look for materials. The only problem was that I didn’t have a lot of money, so it was difficult! M: So, what did you do? W: Well, I went to a bicycle shop and a car repair shop. I told them about my project. They gave me some extra parts. M: Oh, that was nice. D 25. B 26. A 27. 根据第一段“However, Monti is more widely remembered as the first athlete to be awarded the Pierre de Coubertin Medal for sportsmanship displayed during the 1964 Winter Olympic Games.(然而,人们更广泛地记得,蒙蒂是第一位在1964年冬季奥运会上因表现出的体育精神而被授予皮埃尔·德·顾拜旦奖章的运动员)”可知,他被授予第一个顾拜旦体育精神奖章,故选D。 25. 根据第二段“At the 1964 Games in Innsbruck, Austria, Monti and his partner Sergio Siorpaes were the defending world champions, which made them favourites in the two-man event. (在1964年奥地利因斯布鲁克奥运会上,蒙蒂和他的搭档塞尔吉奥·西奥帕斯是卫冕世界冠军,这使他们成为两人项目的favourites)”可知,因为他们是卫冕世界冠军,所以成为两人项目最有希望获胜的,由此可知,划线单词“favourites”与B项“预计将获胜的竞争对手”意思一样,故选B。 26.推理判断题。根据第三段“On day two, however, a faulty axle (车轴) on the sled would have been sure to lead to their withdrawal, if it weren’t for Monti offering to lend them the bolt (螺栓) from his sled. (然而,第二天,如果不是蒙蒂愿意把雪橇上的螺栓借给他们,雪橇上的轴有故障肯定会导致他们撤退)”说明蒙蒂很慷慨;以及第四段“Four days later in the four-man event, Monti’s selflessness towards his fellow competitors shone through for a second time when the rear axle on the Canadian team’s sled was damaged.(四天后,在四人滑雪比赛中,当加拿大队雪橇的后轴受损时,蒙蒂对其他对手的无私再次显现出来。蒙蒂派意大利队的机械师去修理,结果加拿大队赢得了金牌,蒙蒂只得再拿一枚铜牌)”可知,蒙蒂非常的无私,故选A。 27.主旨大意题。根据第一段“However, Monti is more widely remembered as the first athlete to be awarded the Pierre de Coubertin Medal for sportsmanship displayed during the 1964 Winter Olympic Games.(然而,人们更广泛地记得,蒙蒂是第一位在1964年冬季奥运会上因表现出的体育精神而被授予皮埃尔·德·顾拜旦奖章的运动员)”以及最后一段“Monti was recognised with the Pierre de Coubertin Medal for sportsmanship after the 1964 Winter Games. And four years later, at the age of 40, at the 1968 Games in Grenoble, Monti finally fulfilled his dream of being an Olympic champion.(1964年冬季奥运会后,蒙蒂被授予顾拜旦体育精神奖章。四年后,在1968年格勒诺布尔奥运会上,40岁的蒙蒂终于实现了他成为奥运冠军的梦想)”可知,尤金尼奥·蒙蒂虽然因为2次帮助雪橇出故障的对手而错失奥运金牌,但是展现了体育精神,是真正的雪橇冠军。故“Eugenio Monti -真正的雪橇冠军”适合做标题,故选C。 C There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that the influence of the media is growing stronger and stronger as time passes by. A. making comparisons and giving examples B. listing facts and giving research results C. raising problems and providing solutions D. showing facts and presenting explanations 【答案】28. B 29. C 30. B 31. 根据文章第二段“The effect of media does not stop when the movie or program ends. And this effect might just be the cause of behavioral changes in people.”(当电影或者节目结束时,媒体的效应也没有停止。 根据文章第六段“An explanation to these bad acts is that these people could not distinguish fantasy from reality.”(产生这些不良行为的解释之一就是,这些人无法区分幻想与现实)可知,作者认为,一些人行为恶劣,是因为他们无法区分幻想与现实,故选C。 30. 根据文章最后一段“So the media is largely responsible for giving people false ideas and unhealthy pictures, which lead to misbehavior against other people, and can create a dangerous cycle among individuals as they attempt to do the same or even worse things to others. 根据文章第三段列举的“With action films, children tend to follow the movie hero, engaging them to violent acts thinking that it is acceptable because his hero became successful in the end. ”(在动作片中,孩子们倾向于追随电影中的英雄,结果他们参与暴力行为,认为这是可以接受的,因为他的英雄最终成功了)可知,一些孩子们模仿电视里面的暴力行为并改变了对于社会问题的态度,和第五段“There had been instances in the past that young people drunk driving imitating their favorite actress.”(曾经有一些例子,年轻人模仿他们最喜欢的演员酒驾),“There was also a case…”(曾经有一个案例……),“These are just a few examples…”(有几个例子……),以及第六段中“An explanation to these bad acts is that these people could not distinguish fantasy from reality.”(产生这些坏行为的解释之一就是,这些人无法分清幻想与现实)可推知,作者主要是通过列举事实和解释来支撑他的观点的,故选D。 D People are motivated to try a vegetarian(素食的)diet for different reasons—from ethical and religious, to potential health and environmental benefits. The Role of Genetics in Vegetarian Devotion 【答案】32. B 33. C 34. B 35. 根据第二段中Nabeel Yaseen博士所说的话“A lot of people who want to be vegetarian are perhaps not able to(很多想成为素食主义者的人可能做不到)”和“We wanted to know if genetics(遗传学)is part of the reason(我们想知道遗传学是否是部分原因)”可知,Nabeel Yaseen博士研究素食主义者是为了调查基因是否对 人们可以忠诚地吃素食有影响,故选B项。 33. 根据第三段中“They found 34 genes that may play a role in sticking to a strict vegetarian diet. And they identified 3 genes that are more tightly linked to the feature.(他们发现34个基因可能在坚持严格素食饮食方 面发挥作用。他们确定了3个与这一特征联系更紧密的基因)”可知,根据Yaseen博士的研究,有些基因与 坚持严格素食饮食有关。由此可知,基因可能影响素食主义,故选C项。 34.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“The study can’t answer exactly how genetic differences could shape or influence vegetarians, but Dr. Yaseen has some ideas. His research has disclosed many unknown aspects of genetics.(这项研究 无法准确回答基因差异是如何塑造或影响素食者的,但Yaseen博士有一些想法。 Competition is a huge part of our culture. 36. E 37. D 38. F 39. A 40. _________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 I returned to the doctor for a total of 10 times. Even more, I’ve learned, through my treatments, of the many acupressure points on my body and I massage certain areas on my hand every day to prevent migraines and also sometimes to treat other illnesses. If you have also been suffering from the conditions I suffered, I would highly recommend trying acupuncture. (每题0.5分) 1. tolerance, tolerant 2. investigation 3. conclusion 4. competitions 5. is being examined 6. disability 三、根据汉语句子完成英语句子。(每题0.5分) 1. beyond their grasp 2. distinguishes humans from animals/distinguish between humans and animals 3. persuade me into buying/persuade me to buy 4. in praise of her devotion to 5. being grateful for 6. have been wrestling with/have been trying their best to deal with/do with/solve 原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究! 1-N( 0 1 -C4(0 -N 1 1 耿 注意事项 - C) 2 C 14 C 。 1. 选择题(请用2B铅笔填涂) 1 [A11B1IC] 6 IA][B][C] 11 [A][B1[C1 16 [A][B1|C] 7 [A11B11C] 12 IA][B][C] 2 1A11B11C1 17 [A]1B1[C] 8 [A]1B][C] 3 [A]IB1[C] 13 [A1[B][C] 18 [A][B1[C] 4 [A][B][C] 9 [A]1B1[C] 14 [A][B][C] 19 [A][B1[C] 15 [A][B]C] 5 [A1[B1IC] 10 [A1|BIIC] 20 [A1IB1IC] 21 [A1IB]IC1[D] 26 [A][B1[C][D] 31 [A1[B][C1ID] 36 [A11B1[C]1D1IE1IF]IG] 22 [A1IB11C11ID] 27 IA11B11C11D] 32 [A11B11C1[D] 37 [A]IB1IC1I D]1E1IF1IG] 23 [A1IB]IC11D] 28 [A]1B1[C1[D] 33 [A1[B1[C11D] 38 IA1IB1IC][D][E]IF]IG] 24 [A][B][C1[D 29 [A][B1[C][D] 34 [A][B][C][D] 39 [A1IB1IC]1D1[E1[F]IG] 25 [A]IB]IC11D] 35 1A11B11C11D 30 1A]IB]IC]1D] 40 [A]IB1IC11D1IE1IF]IG] 46 [A11B11C11D] 41 IA]IB]1C11D 51 [A1[B11C11D] 班 第四部分写作(共两节,满分40分) 第一节(满分15分) 第二节(满分25分) Paragraph 1: I returned to the doctor for a total of 10 times.
