(四川省名校2023-2024学年高一下学期7月期末)Nearly one in six adolescents (青少年) have experienced cyberbullying (网络欺凌), an international study has found. More school-aged children have reported being cyberbullied than before the pandemic, according to the report by the World Health Organization (WHO). The study surveyed more than 279,000 young people from 44 countries and regions.
In Wales, where nearly 37,000 young people were surveyed, 17% reported experiencing cyberbullying. The Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey suggests the percentage of adolescents who reported being cyberbullied has increased since 2018, from 12% to 15% for boys and 13% to 16% for girls. In England, where more than 4,200 young people were surveyed, nearly one in five (19%) reported being cyberbullied at least once or twice in the past couple of months, and 11% reported cyberbullying others. In Scotland, where more than 4,300 young people were surveyed, 18% said they had experienced cyberbullying and 11% reported cyberbullying others.
The report said there was an “urgent need” to educate young people, families and schools of the forms of cyberbullying and its impacts.
Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge, WHO regional director for Europe, said: “Protecting the health and wellbeing of teenagers and young adults is now a top priority, especially when it comes to addressing online peer violence (暴力). Cyberbullying, in particular, must be viewed as a major societal issue. With young people spending up to six hours online every single day, even small changes in the rates of bullying and violence can have deep influences on the health and wellbeing of thousands. This is both a health and a human rights issue, and we must step up to protect our children from violence and harm, both offline and online.”
4. What did the survey by WHO focus on?
A. The reasons for worldwide adolescent cyberbullying.
B Effective anti-cyberbullying measures in schools.

A. More adolescents are cyberbullied in Wales.
B. Cyberbullying has become more common in schools.
C. Cyberbullied people often cyberbully others.
D. Boys are more likely to be cyberbullied than girls.
6. Why does Kluge think cyberbullying is a serious issue?
A. Because it attracts more adolesents to stay online.
B. Because it makes young people spend more time online.
C. Because it takes many forms and is hard to discover.
D. Because it is a kind of violence and harms teenagers a lot.
7. What is the text mainly about?

(河北省河北名校联盟2023-2024学年高一下学期7月期末)If you have been out and about in Atlanta, you have probably seen something very unusual—groups of people who are reading silently to themselves. These meet-ups are a way for people to read and socialize, which is part of a growing trend of Silent Book Club (SBC).
The global organization has over 1,000 branches where adults of all ages come to read. The first chapter was founded in San Francisco in 2012 by two women, and the idea really took off and is now fostering this love of reading and connection in 50 countries.
The Atlanta chapter usually has between 130 and 170 people attending. It is increasingly popular with the participants. “It is a space where I can quietly read with others,” Danielle Clarke, a reader with SBC Atlanta, said.
Once the reading session ends, people can move around and socialize with one another, or not. “As a new reader, I thought it would be special to step into this space with my books and hopefully meet new people,” said Spencer Bonner, another reader with SBC Atlanta.
SBC is part of a new resurgence (复苏) of the old-style book clubs, where everyone reads the same book and comes together to discuss it.
In this digital world where people work long days on computers, book clubs are a way to make genuine human offline connections.
“I want to connect with my friends in a context that doesn’t rely on spending money and the book club offers at least one inexpensive social opportunity per month,” one book club regular said.
Some book clubs focus on economic issues while others focus on literature. What they all have in common is that they give people a sense of belonging, something everyone needs.

(河北省邯郸育华中学2023-2024学年高一下学期期中考试)Lately, there has been a lot of discussion among parents, educators, and within the community that reading is a lost art. We hear people crying that books are dead or that technology is changing how we get our information. Thankfully, however, book sales are rebounding(回升) and literature is far from dead. That’s great news, because science has proven that there are many ways that reading is beneficial to our lives and brain development.
The benefits of reading range anywhere from reducing stress, to developing our brains, to improving memory, and helping increase emotional intelligence. For parents, this is especially important to note, because empathy (共情) is among the five most important skills for success for people living in a digital and global economy. Our kids, who are digital natives, are going to be required to explore a world that requires them to have emotional intelligence to succeed.
In addition to helping children develop critical thinking and writing skills, research has long been telling us that reading fiction can develop empathy and emotional intelligence. Surprisingly, the actual art of reading isn’t capable of producing this surprising reaction. Children don’t develop emotional understanding by focusing on mechanics. Instead, there is hard evidence that reading literary fiction improves emotional intelligence.
Stories allow readers to bury themselves in the life of another person and see the world through their eyes. This has always been a good way to broaden a child’s outlook, but now we actually have the research and science to say it makes us more empathetic. For example, studies published before uncovered that participants who read literature with strong characters showed higher levels of empathy and emotional intelligence by being able to “feel” the characters. The subjects of these studies were better able to understand others by empathizing with characters and viewing the world in their different ways.
12. What does the author mainly want to tell us in Paragraph 1?
A. Reading is a lost art. B. Reading has a great influence on us.
C. Book sales are going up again. D. Technology leads to the death of books.
13. What benefit do children get from reading?
A. Succeeding in their career. B. Bringing back their memories.
C. Gaining popularity in the digital world. D. Enabling them to be emotionally intelligent.
14. What evidence shows reading literary fiction improves emotional intelligence?
A. The change of the readers’ values.
B. The readers’ devotion to reading stories.
C. The development of the readers’ critical thinking skills.
D. The readers’ ability to understand the characters in stories.
15. What is a suitable title for the text?
A. Why Reading Will Never Die

Ruth said, “Jackson needs the work. He isn’t asking for a handout; he is asking for good honest work. His wife is ill, and their insurance won’t cover all her hospital costs.Jackson barely has enough to live, which is why he needs to work.” Jolene asked why Ruth didn’t give him the money. Ruth said she’d rather give him work so he could earn the money and keep his dignity and self-respect.
Jolene was moved by Ruth’s kindness and thoughtfulness. The next day Jolene asked Jackson if he had time to fix up her old garage. Jackson agreed and fixed the garage and did such a good job that soon the entire neighborhood had him on speed dial. Jackson became the local handyman and earned enough to make ends meet.

7. What is the text mainly about?

B. Harms of the Internet for young people.

8. What phenomenon will you see in Atlanta?
A. People seldom read alone. B. People read quietly together.
C People like to get together. D. People spare no effort to socialize.

B. How Children Develop Good Reading Habits
C. How Reading Improves Emotional Intelligence
D. What Parents Can Do to Improve Kids’ Emotional Intelligence

Ruth gave him money to buy paint so he could paint the guest room the next day. She also paid him twice what he’d asked for the table. Jackson said,“You've given me too much money!” Ruth told him firmly, “My daddy always told me to pay a fair price for a job well done, and that's what I'm doing!”
Over the next few weeks,Ruth’s neighbors were surprised to see the elderly man coming in and out of her house with his toolbox in hand. Somehow Ruth always found something that had Jackson coming back.
