教学实施过程:
1. Have students discuss and choose their favourite painter by answering the following
questions.
(1) Which painter would your group like to research?
Vincent van Gogh.
(2) Why do you want to research this painter?
We believe that Vincent van Gogh is worth researching for the great talent and
achievements he is now known for, despite the miserable life he endured.
2. Have students read the poster on page 41 about Xu Beihong and answer some questions.
(1) When and where was Xu Beihong born?
He was born in Yixing, Jiangsu, in 1895.
(2) Where did he study art?
He studied art in Japan and France.
(3) What’s his painting style?
He painted mostly in the traditional Chinese style and he was a master of both oils and
Chinese ink. He created a new form of art by combining Chinese brush and ink techniques
with Western painting methods.

(4) What are his famous works?
Portrait of Ms Jenny and Six Galloping Horses.
(5) Why is he so important in Chinese art history?
Because he was the father of modern Chinese art education and greatly influenced realist
art in modern China.
3. Have students work in groups, allocate their tasks and get some information they need.

6. Have students evaluate their peers’ posters in groups and give their comments.
