Sometimes, as many as twenty-five to sixty-plus folks showed up. Jim made sure to fit everyone in so they could improve their skills. The class lasted for three hours. The usual cast of comic actors played improv comedy games. And we would go to the nearest mini market located in the building and get a snack or coffee during breaks. One day, three of us were standing outside the building. when Robin Williams—an internationally famous actor and comic walked by, enjoying the fresh bay air. Completely frozen, my fellow comics couldn’t summon up the courage to just say “hi” to Robin, who was with a friend. I froze for a moment. but then I composed myself. I told them, “Hey, if you guys can’t handle it, then I will ask him to come and join us for the second half of the class.” I could hear them mumble under their breath. “Yeah, sure, right. You’re going to ask Robin Williams to come to our comedy class. Good luck with that one!” So I went up to Robin and his friend and asked him to join us. “We’re having an improv comedy class. We’re on break now, but we would be honoured if you would join us for the second half of the class.” Robin looked directly in my eyes and said with little hesitation, “Okay.” It was like a grown-up child being asked to come and play. With that, he and his friend followed me up to the class. When Jim saw Robin, he said, “Oh my goodness, look who Micheline is bringing to class,” Jim’s eyes were all in astonishment and delight (高兴). “Why, it’s Robin Williams!” Robin and his friend stayed the rest of the class and at the end of the class, Robin and Jim performed a skit We actually watched him shape-shift as he prepared physically and mentally for his made-up character. He gave it his all. It was truly magical. What a delight for all of us that Saturday afternoon! All I know is that if I hadn’t mustered up the courage to ask Robin to join us, none of us would have had that experience. 4. What does the underlined words “summon up” mean in Paragraph 2? A. Work up. B. Calm down. C. Make up. D. Get up. 5. Which of the following is true? A. Robin Williams left halfway in the class. B. Robin Williams refused the author’s invitation. C. Every cloud has a silver lining. C. A brave attempt is half success. D. Actions speak louder than words. C The painting “Portrait(肖像) of Omai” was finished in 1774 and was sold to John Magnier in 2001. When he wants to take the painting out of the country the government believes it’s important for Britain and stops him doing so. Yet British buyers can’t raise the money needed to get it from Mr. Magnier before the deadline of a ban one exporting it. A solution may now involve Getty Museum in Los Angeles; it could be a model for her treasured artworks too expensive for the nation to buy. Most countries have export restrictions on their cultural treasures. Many European counts a low the government to step in and buy any work offered for sale. Britain operates a system called Waverley standards, balancing the aims of keeping important pieces and protecting the rights of their owners. Valuable pieces are evaluated at monthly meetings of a committee of owners, dealers and art historians. The most important works are kept in Britain temporarily while institutions at home try to raise the funds to buy them. Mr. Magnier paid £10.3 million for “Portrait of Omai”. Now he wants £50 million for it, a fair value. The National Portrait Gallery (NPG) in London has been trying to raise the cash, but only half the money had been raised. The NPG’s answer is to buy the painting together with the Getty Museum, spending half its time in London and the other half in California. In 2015 a similar arrangement was agreed between France and the Netherlands to share ownership of a pair of important portraits by Rembrandt. The Waverley standards were meant to keep Brit in’s cultural treasures at home. But protecting an artwork for the nation for some time maybe all that can be achieved. Closed for three years for repair, the NPG hopes it will open its doors again with “Portrait of Omai” as its glory. 8. What can we learn about Magnier from Para. 1? A. He painted a portrait of an Englishman. B. He wanted to take the painting abroad. C. He illegally took hold of the paining. D. He solved the problem with a portrait. 9. What do the Waverley standards do to keep cultural treasures at home? A. They set aside time for home purchase. B. They checkout annual export licences. C. They decide a ban on the rare treasures. D. They advertise the sales of the treasures. 10. What will be the final solution to “Portrait of Omai”? A. Britain takes it for permanent ownership. B. Mr. Magnier takes it abroad after the deadline. C. Britain works with France to share its ownership. D. NPG and the Getty Museum share its ownership. 11. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. The Cooperation of World’s Galleries B. The Protection of Galleries’ Paintings C. A New Way to Save Art for the Nation D. A Clever Way to Stop Loss of Paintings D Every few years, snowshoe hare (白靴兔) numbers in the Canadian Yukon climb to a peak. As hare populations increase, so do those of their predators (捕食者): lynx and coyotes. Then hare populations fall and their predators start to die off. The cycle is a famous phenomenon among ecologists and has been studied since the 1920s. In recent years, though, researchers have found hare numbers fall from their peak not just because predators eat too many of them. Long-lasting stress from living surrounded by killers causes mother hares to eat less food and bear fewer babies. The trauma (创伤) of living through such threats causes lasting changes in brain chemistry, keeping the hares from reproducing at normal levels. And it’s not just snowshoe hares, as behavioural ecologists Liana Zanette and Michael Clinchy, who study what they call the ecology of fear, have shown. They’ve found that fear of predators can cause other wild mammals (哺乳动物) and songbirds to bear and raise fewer young. The offspring of frightened voles and song sparrows are less likely to succeed in reproducing. These findings add to a growing body of evidence showing that fearful experiences can have long-lasting effects on wildlife and suggesting that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is not only unique to humans, but shared among other creatures. Rudy Boonstra, a population ecologist at the University of Toronto, sees the response of snowshoe hares as an adaptation that allows the animals to make the best of a bad situation. Animals stressed by many predators spend more time hiding and less time feeding, so they produce fewer young—but that may allow more adult hares to survive to rebuild the population when the cycle starts again. Despite the evidence that a wide range of animals experience the long-term impacts of extreme stress, some psychologists still hold their human-centric (以人为本的) view of PTSD. “It is defined in terms of human responses,” says neurobiologist David Diamond. “There is no biological measure—you can’t get a blood test that says someone has PTSD. This is a psychological disease, and that’s why I call it a human disorder. Because a rat can’t tell you how it feels.” 12. What can be learned from the hare population? A. Their predators are in danger of dying out. B. Their numbers decline partly because of stress. C. Their populations have been falling all the time. D. Their safety is threatened by wild mammals and songbirds. 13. What can we conclude from Paragraph 3? A. Birds attract fewer predators than land animals do. B. Snowshoe hares suffer more than other mammals. C. It is hard for animals to remember trauma. D. PTSD exists among wild animals. 14. What’s Diamond’s attitude towards animals’ PTSD? A. Supportive. B. Understanding. C. Doubtful. D. Unconcerned. 15. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To talk about how to get over trauma. B. To give a brief introduction to PTSD. C. To call for the protection of snowshoe hares. D. To discuss how fear might hurt animals. The brain is an important organ of the human body. In our childhood, how often did we turn a deaf ear to our parents’ advice? Very often! Thus, we landed ourselves in a situation where we greatly regretted our act of not having listened to the advice of the wise. Such an unforgettable experience I had at the age of 7 gave me an invaluable lesson, after which I deeply understood why my gentle mother was repeating the boring suggestions and I would try to take her suggestions seriously. In my childhood, I was so crazy about nature that even playing among the colorful flowers in our garden could make my day. Our house was next to the woods which had always stirred up(激起) great curiosity in me in wanting to find out what was within. Every time I saw fascinating butterflies dancing from the woods, my curiosity grew. But my mother didn’t like me wandering off on my own and always ensured that I was within her sight. Even if she allowed me to explore the surrounding area on my own, it was only to be somewhere near the house. Being as curious as the cat, I always desired to explore the woods. It seemed as if my mother had understood my desire, so she had warmed me on lots of occasions never to enter the woods alone. “Mom, can I go out and play in the garden?” I asked. “Sure,” she would reply each time. “Kate, you can play in the garden but you must promise me one thing—only when I’m with you can you go into the woods. There are no cases of animal attacks on humans, but it’s still dangerous for a little kid like you. It’s too easy to get lost in the woods.” “Sure, you’ve said that many times!” I answered without patience at her repeated reminders. However, curiosity got the better of me one morning. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Kate?” Behind the trees covered by the rays of the setting sun came my mother’s voice. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力 1—5 BBABB 6—10 CCBAB 11—15 ABBAA 16—20 CBCCB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null 2024年普通高等学校招生全国统一考试内参模拟测试卷(三) 英语 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? C. Famous but approachable. B. Popular but humble. C. Respected but serious. D. Strict but generous. 7. What did the author want to show by telling the experience? A. It’s never too late to learn. B. Every cloud has a silver lining. C. A brave attempt is half success. D. Actions speak louder than words. A 5. D 6. A 7. 根据上文的句子“One day, three of us were standing outside the building. when Robin Williams—an internationally famous actor and comic walked by, enjoying the fresh bay air.(一天,我们三个人站在大楼外面。这时罗宾·威廉姆斯——一位国际著名的演员兼喜剧演员走过,享受着海湾的新鲜空气。)”和空格前的“Completely frozen, my fellow comics couldn’t ”以及空格后的the courage to just say “hi” to Robin可知,因为作者他们遇到了罗宾·威廉姆斯——一位国际著名的演员兼喜剧演员,他们呆住了,所以,他们没有勇气给罗宾打招呼。所以,summon up the courage意义为“鼓起勇气”,划线短语summon up与work up“激起,激发”意义一致。故选A项。 根据第二段的句子“Completely frozen, my fellow comics couldn’t summon up the courage to just say “hi” to Robin, who was with a friend.(我的喜剧同伴们完全呆住了,无法鼓起勇气向罗宾打招呼,他和一个朋友在一起。)”和第三段“I told them, “Hey, if you guys can’t handle it, then I will ask him to come and join us for the second half of the class.” I could hear them mumble under their breath. “Yeah, sure, right. You’re going to ask Robin Williams to come to our comedy class. Good luck with that one!”(我告诉他们,“嘿,如果你们做不了,那我就请他来和我们一起上下半节课。”我能听到他们低声咕哝。“是的,当然,没错。你要邀请罗宾·威廉姆斯来上我们的喜剧课。祝你好运!” )”可知,作者的朋友们不敢邀请罗宾·威廉姆斯。故选D项。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。文章第二段“One day, three of us were standing outside the building, when Robin Williams—an internationally famous actor and comic walked by, enjoying the fresh bay air. (有一天,我们三个人站在大楼外面,国际著名演员兼喜剧演员罗宾·威廉斯走过,享受着海湾的新鲜空气。)”提到,罗宾·威廉斯很出名;再根据第四段“Robin looked directly in my eyes and said with little hesitation, ‘Okay.’(罗宾直视着我的眼睛,毫不犹豫地说:‘好的。’)” 故选A项。 C The painting “Portrait(肖像) of Omai” was finished in 1774 and was sold to John Magnier in 2001. When he wants to take the painting out of the country, the government believes it’s important for Britain and stops him doing so. A Clever Way to Stop Loss of Paintings 【答案】8. B 9. A 10. D 11. 12. B 13. D 14. C 15. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文 1 However, curiosity got the better of me one morning. Ignoring my mother’s reminder, I slid into the forbidden world. How fascinating! Among various colorful flowers danced butterflies. With excitement, I chased after the graceful creatures, running deeper into the woods. Suddenly they flew over trees and disappeared. What’s worse, I got lost! I rushed around, crying for help, frightened and helpless, but in vain. I repeated the useless efforts until sunset. “If only I followed Mom’s reminder!” I curled up under a tree, in bitter regret and cried again. “Kate?” Behind the trees covered by the rays of the setting sun came my mother’s voice. “Mom! I’m here!” Wild with joy, I rushed towards where the voice came from. Behind a tree appeared my mother. She dashed up, hugged me tight and checked whether I got hurt. “I’m so sorry! I should have appreciated your suggestion!” I burst into tears. Wiping tears from my muddy face, she repeated the reminders, which weren’t boring any more, but wise and affectionate, and were implanted in my life forever. 2 However, curiosity got the better of me one morning. I summoned up my courage and decided to take a chance. Hardly had I entered the woods when I was totally attracted by the sight. The wandering clouds, the blooming flowers and the vigorous trees all kept me spellbound. At the sight of a beautiful butterfly, I tiptoed along the path, bent over, cupped my hands gently and danced with it down the track. Time flew and before I knew it, I was deep in the woods, unable to find the way out. With a feeling of horror totally holding me in its power, I squatted down under a tree, tears rolling down my cheeks. “Kate?” Behind the trees covered by the rays of the setting sun came my mother’s voice. Hearing my mom’s voice, I yelled in a quivering tone, rushed towards her direction and threw my arms around her. Noticing my misty eyes, she patted me on the shoulders and checked whether I got hurt. Choked with emotion, I whispered, “I am OK, Mom. I will never go into the woods without your company and permission.” Shooting me an approving look, she added, “Next time you want to come, keep me informed!” In the setting sun, we headed back and this time, I held my mom’s hand tightly. 词类激活 行为类 ①哭:cry/weep/burst into tears ②拥抱:hug/embrace ③跑:rush/dash/run 情绪类 ①迷人的:fascinating/charming/attractive/fascinating ②兴奋:excitement/stimulation ③快乐:joy/delight/happiness 【点睛】【高分句型1】She dashed up, hugged me tight and checked whether I got hurt.
