My big moment finally came in the summer of 2010 when I was able to accompany my parents to Europe. We planned to travel to Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. I had heard several great things about Lufthansa (汉莎航空) till then but now I finally got to experience them first hand, during the flight to Frankfurt. We flew business class and even today I can remember the excellent service by the Lufthansa crew. The flight was really smooth and thoroughly enjoyable, even for someone like me, who is otherwise scared of flying. After spending almost two weeks in Europe, we took the Lufthansa airport express from Dusseldorf to Frankfurt airport, for our return flight. What a journey that was! All along the Rhine (莱茵河) , it was simply an unforgettable experience. I was in a sombre mood on the flight back to Mumbai as it marked the end of a wonderful vacation, but the Lufthansa crew members were able to change it into a most enjoyable experience yet again, with the quality of their service. Being the first airline to take me overseas, Lufthansa will always hold a special place in my heart. Even today, I continue to enjoy flights on Lufthansa and simply cannot dream of choosing any other airline. 4. Which country does the author live in? A. Belgium. B. India. C. Germany. D. Canada. 5. What can be inferred from the last paragraph about the author? A. He likes Lufthansa very much. B. He has achieved much success in life. C. He hopes his father will travel with him. D. He has a hard time when flying just like his father. C A recent study has found that being exposed to low temperatures creates more good fat which burns calories in the body. Being cold is similar to the effects of exercise, protecting against being too fat and improving health. The researchers have discovered that exposure to cold changes the make-up of gut bacteria (肠道细菌), which can lead to burning fat and reduce body weight. While ordinary white fat, known as bad fat, piles on when we eat more calories than we burn, brown fat seems to burn extra calories to produce heat. Babies have lots of brown fat — they need it to keep warm — but there are small amounts in the necks of adults, too. Studies have shown that staying in a cold environment can speed the formation of more brown fat in the body. Researchers predicted the health benefits of being exposed to cold may have something to do with gut bacteria. They exposed the first group of mice to a cold temperature of 6℃for up to 10 days and discovered this caused a major change in the make-up of the mice’s gut microbes (微生物), preventing the mice from gaining weight. Then the gut bacteria were put into the second group of mice that did not have gut microbes. It was found that they increased tolerance (忍耐力) to cold temperatures. The mice also lost weight as the changes in gut bacteria promoted the formation of brown fat. However, after three weeks of cold exposure, the body weight began to remain stable. Professor Mirko Trajkovski said, that they provide powerful evidence that gut microbes play a key role in people’s ability to adapt to the environment. They are excited about testing whether gut microbes could be a promising approach to preventing being fat. 8. What’s the new result of the recent study? A. Good fat has nothing to do with calories. B. Exercise can change the make-up of gut bacteria. C. Being cold helps people lose weight. D. Gut bacteria will stop producing brown fat. 9. What do we know about brown fat? A. It’s usually considered as bad fat. B. It fails to produce in a cold environment. C. It can’t be found in the bodies of adults. D. It burns more calories in low temperatures. 10. With the gut bacteria, the second group of mice ________. A. kept losing weight every day B. had much less brown fat in the cold C. gained a better ability to stand the cold D. could produce more bad fat in the body 11. According to Mirko Trajkovski, the result ________. A. could provide new treatment for overweight people B. shows people how to get used to the cold C. makes people realize the importance of keeping warm D. may cause more people to take exercise D Cars could soon be communicating with each other using 5G to make drivers aware of upcoming hazards (危险), scientists say. The extremely fast mobile internet would allow for rapid information transmission and could make drivers aware of black ice, pot holes or other dangers up ahead. Several car manufacturers (制造商) are already using 5G in their vehicles, including as a tool to help serve in the generation of self-driving vehicles. Experts at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) believe the high-speed connection will also improve the reliability and capability of automated vehicles to the point where they will be safer than the manual cars being driven today. They predict the number of road traffic accidents, which according to the World Health Organization account for more than 1.3 million deaths and up to 50 million people injured worldwide every year, will drop really as a result. Dr Dimitrios Liarokapis, a member of the research group, said, “To have a better idea of what the future will look like, think of having such cars that not only use sensors to scan what’s around them, they can also talk to each other and exchange safety-related information about their surroundings over an area that covers several square miles. With the help of 5G, a vehicle-generated early warning system that reminds drivers is possible within the next few years. Cars that are close enough to the danger area will transmit warning messages to other cars around them using short-range communication technologies, but also to cars further away using 5G, fast and reliably.” A few manufacturers are already working on connected cars. Of them, Ford told its intention to fit 80 percent of its future vehicles with technology that warns drivers about upcoming road accidents, bad weather and traffic jams. 12. What is the benefit of 5G mentioned in the text? A. It can improve the safety of automated vehicles. B. It can help drivers communicate with each other. C. It can effectively wipe out road traffic accidents. D. It can help make more profits for the manufacturers. 13. What can we know about the vehicle-generated early warning system? A. It can get information several miles ahead. B. It is under research and development at present. C. It has been proved extremely helpful for driving. D. It will send messages to drivers a few days earlier. 14. What will be probably continued with the text? A. Some car manufacturers. B. The advantages when using 5G. C. Some safety rules when using 5G. D. The sales information of cars with 5G. 15. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A. 5G Leaves Drivers Free When They Are Driving B. 5G Is to Bring Great Convenience to Our Daily Life C. 5G Has Been Popular with Drivers Around the World D. 5G Is on the Way to Making “Dialogue” Between Cars When you’re meeting someone for the first time, you’re eager to make a good impression. I’ve always loved running, so I was really happy when I found out I lived next to Central Park. It meant that every morning I could go for a run before I went to work. Because a lot of people had told me to be careful of robbers in the park, so usually I didn’t take anything with me. How could they rob me if I didn’t have anything? But one morning, my wife gave me a $10 bill and asked me to buy some bread on the way. It was a beautiful morning and the park was quiet with very few people walking or jogging around. While I was running through the park, another jogger knocked into me. He apologized and continued running. For a while, I didn’t think too much of it. However, when I noticed the wide path where I was running, I thought it was kind of strange. The warning of robbers in the park occurred to me. “It could have been a robber!” I suddenly became alarmed, so I checked my pocket and found that the money was missing. Without thinking twice, I ran after that jogger. I finally caught up and held him by the arm. I shouted, “Give me the $10 bill! Now!” I am not usually a hot-headed (性急的) person, but I got really angry this time. I couldn’t believe the robbery was actually happening to me. Filled with anger, I shook my fist at him. This seemed to frighten him. He quickly put his hand in his pocket and gave me the money. Then he ran away as fast as he could. I bought the bread and went home. As soon as I got home, I couldn’t wait to tell my wife my story. “You won’t believe what happened to me,” I started with pride. She immediately stopped me, “I know, you left the money for the bread on the kitchen table.” Looking at the money on the table, I stood there, shocked. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ For several days, I waited at the same place. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 罗平县第一中学2024~2025学年上学期9月月考考试 高二英语试卷 考生注意: 1. 1. I grew up in India. I used to listen to the stories my father would tell me about his stay in Canada and tours to Europe in the 1990s, with great interest. A. Belgium. B. India. C. Germany. D. Canada. 5. Then, the gut bacteria were put into the second group of mice that did not have gut microbes. A It’s usually considered as bad fat. A. could provide new treatment for overweight people B. shows people how to get used to the cold C. makes people realize the importance of keeping warm D. may cause more people to take exercise 【答案】8. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Looking at the money on the table, I stood there, shocked. For the rest of the day, I felt extremely guilty, with the innocent jogger and his “helplessness” on my mind. How could I be so rude to him without knowing the truth? Why was it that the jogger gave me the money? I still remember his frightened face when I scared him away like a monster. I decided to find a chance to apologize to him. The next morning, I got up and went to the park as usual, but not for jogging. I just hung around where I met that jogger, but in vain. For several days, I waited at the same place. But to my disappointment, he didn’t turn up. It was almost a week later before I finally spotted him again. I, the “robber”, gave the $10 bill back to him and said sorry to him again and again. Fortunately, he forgave me for what I had done to him and said, “Oh, it doesn’t matter.” Many years have passed, but I can still feel my cheeks burning with shame. From the experience I have learned that it is too early to judge a person before you know the truth. 词汇激活 行为类 ①归还:give back/return ②决定做:decide to do/make up one’s mind to do ③道歉:apologize/make an apology 情绪类 ①惊恐的:frightened/alarmed/scared ②内疚的: guilty/sinful 【点睛】【高分句型1】I still remember his frightened face when I scared him away like a monster.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】It was almost a week later before I finally spotted him again.(运用了before引导的时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
