B In 1957 a group of physicists gathered in a lecture hall at Princeton University to be addressed by a Chinese American woman. As she told the crowd about her recent experiment and its results, the response was dead silence for two minutes, then a thunderous applause (掌声) continued for ten minutes. The woman was Chien-Shiung Wu, known as the First Lady of Physics, who transformed nuclear science through her work on the Manhattan Project and other groundbreaking experiments. Born in 1912 near Shanghai, China, Wu was influenced by her father, an engineer, and her mother, an educator. Unlike many Chinese women of her time, she received a formal education. Fascinated by new discoveries and the story of women scientists like Marie Curie, she entered National Central University to study physics and then began her scientific studies. It was a time of rapid change in both the field of physics and China. Domestic unrest and a bad relationship with Japan made life at home uneasy. With the help of an uncle, she immigrated to the United States for graduate school. Wu planned to go to the University of Michigan, but a tour of the University of California, Berkeley — and word that a student center at Michigan did not allow female students to enter through the front door — changed her mind. At Berkeley Wu was visible for her gender and race, and from the start her male colleagues commented as much on her physical appearance as her keen mind. She quickly gained a reputation and became an expert in the newly discovered phenomenon of nuclear fission (核裂变). After graduation, she headed to Smith College to teach women physics. During World War Two Wu went to Princeton University, where she became the physics department’s first female instructor. But shortly after her arrival, her career took an unexpected turn in 1944. She ended up joining the staff at Columbia University on a top- secret research program now known as the Manhattan Project. 24.Which word best describes the lecture in Paragraph 1? A.Boring. B.Excellent C.Humorous. D.Common. 25.What inspired Wu to study physics? A.The background of her family. B.The success of women scientists. C.The formal education she received. D.The rapid change in the field of physics. 26.What happened to Wu in America? A.She was looked down on at Berkeley. B.She went to the University of Michigan at first. C.She taught women physics at Princeton University. D.She joined a top-secret research program at Columbia University. 27.What can we learn from Wu’s story? A.A good beginning is half done. B.Knowledge starts with practice. C.Actions speak louder than words. D.Positive thinking and action result in success. C When you think of the most innovative (创新的) organisations, chances are that your mind will immediately go to Apple, Google, or perhaps OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT that is leading the AI revolution. But there is one other organisation doing exceptional work: Transport for London (TfL), a tube constantly testing out new technologies for London's transportation experience. Willesden Green, a suburban station in North West London was just transformed into a“smart”station. What TfL did was take the CCTV (闭路电视) cameras and plug them into an AI image recognition system — which turned what previously had been ordinary video recordings into intelligent cameras, capable of identifying what was happening inside the station. TfL is at the cutting edge and significantly eased the workload of Tube staff. For example, the system detected fallen passengers, warning staff via iPads to assist them. It also spotted people standing too close to the platform edge, reminding staff of potential danger. For irresponsible behavior, staff could make announcements. The cameras also identified wheelchair users and those waiting too long, allowing staff to offer assistance. TfL's forward-thinking approach in embracing technology is praiseworthy, improving public safety and providing a more smooth travel experience in London. The highlight of this system is its ability to detect unwanted behavior. The AI cameras are designed to identify potential threats like knives, guns, and ticket barrier violators(违反者). However, I'm particularly impressed with how it recognizes “aggressive behavior”. This is hard to do, because describing to a computer what that looks like is tricky. Instead, TfL programmed the system to warn staff if anyone in the station raises both of their arms at the same time, as this is a gesture often connected with threatening behavior. However, it isn't without controversy (争议) — it does cause uncomfortableness from a civil liberties. The problem with AI identifying images means that it could just as easily spot flags or political symbols, for example. And you can imagine how it could be used to closely monitor staff in an unpleasant way. 28.Why are Apple, Google, and OpenAI mentioned in paragraph 1? A.To compare their strengths. B.To stress the tube's innovation. C.To show the popularity of the tube. D.To share the travel experience. 29.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A.How popular AI is becoming in Tfl. B.What AI does to detect passengers in Tfl. C.How AI reduces work burden in Tfl. D.Why AI is influencing TIL so much. 30.What does the underlined word “tricky” in Paragraph 4 mean? A.Challenging. B.Easy. C.Unachievable. D.Perfect. 31.What is the best title of the passage? A.Is it worthy to apply AI to TfL? B.AI does more good than harm. C.TfL is becoming safer and safer. D.TfL is smarter with AI. D In an effort to help out important insects like bees and butterflies, bus stops across the United Kingdom (UK) are getting living roofs. Small gardens on bus shelter roofs are being planted with flowers chosen to help support the struggling insects. The gardens provide much-needed islands of nature in a man-made environment of a city. Humans count on bees and other “pollinators (授粉者)” like butterflies to help grow plants, such as flowers and trees. But with humans taking over more and more land for cities, roads and farms, more natural areas have disappeared. The Wildlife Trusts, a group which works to protect wildlife in the UK, says that 97% of England’s wildflower fields have been lost since World War II and the insect numbers there have dropped by 50% since 1970. Bee bus stops are a small step toward supporting these important insects. The advertising company Clear Channel is working with The Wildlife Trusts and city governments to set up bee bus stops in cities across the UK. Bee bus stops are like ordinary bus shelters, but small gardens have been added to the roofs. The gardens are filled with flowers and plants chosen to attract bees and butterflies. The company plans to set up 1,000 bee bus stops in the UK. Clear Channel already has bee bus stop programs in several countries in Europe. In the Netherlands, the city of Utrecht has 300 bee bus stops. Research shows that these bus stops—along with many other steps taken to support pollinators—may be helping. After decades of dropping numbers, bee populations in the Netherlands seem to have become more stable over the last few years. The little gardens can also help to slightly lower city temperatures. Even though the bus shelter gardens are small, together they add up to a much larger area. Thirzah McSherry, who works for The Wildlife Trusts, says, “We’re living through a nature and climate crisis and we need to use every tool we’ve got to deal with it.” 32.Why are bee bus stop gardens being built in the UK? A.To beautify the city. B.To improve urban farming. C.To solve the environmental pollution. D.To provide shelters for pollinating insects. 33.What leads to the insect numbers dropping sharply in England? A.Losses of forests. B.Climate changes. C.Human activities. D.Natural disasters. 34.How does the author prove the effect of the bee bus stop programs? A.By analyzing the data. B.By making a comparison. C.By showing similar examples. D.By presenting its bright future. 35.What is the text mainly about? A.The urban environment is getting worse. B.The United Kingdom is building bee bus stops. C.City should build larger gardens for the insects. D.The bee bus stop is the best way to save the city. How to Pick High School Classes Many high school students want to know what courses (课程) to take to improve their chances for admission to highly competitive colleges. 36 Here is some advice to help you when you make these decisions. 37 Students should take challenging classes. But they should balance their schedule with easier classes, too. Students can talk with their teachers about what courses will offer the appropriate challenge. Don’t take classes for the wrong reasons. Students shouldn’t take a class just because their best friend is taking it or it’s a course they think they need to get into college. Students should focus on their strengths and make sure they have time to devote to studying. Parents shouldn’t set unrealistic expectations either. 38 Do consider future plans when choosing high school classes. Students should first think through their career plans and whether they want to go to a four-year college, or straight to go to work after graduation. 39 While students don’t need to know exactly what they want to do after high school, the closer they can get to figure out their career path, the better prepared they will be. Don’t neglect (忽视) to plan early. Students should become familiar with all the courses their school offers. 40 Students can also research what the basic requirements are for colleges they are interested in attending – something school counselors (咨询师) could help with. It is wise to first consult your teachers and high school counselors on what courses are most appropriate for you at your high school. We hope that these suggestions help you. A.Try talking with your English teacher. B.Do create a strict but balanced schedule. C.It is also necessary to always take into account the needs of the country. D.Otherwise, they may miss out on classes they want to take later. E.Focus on where your kids fit academically and don’t add pressure. F.Choosing classes may seem difficult at first and you may be at a loss for how to start. G.By doing so, students can determine what high school classes will best prepare them for their future path. Brianna was just 12 when her mother became severely 41 , allowing her to know what it was like to care for someone else. Jace shyly raised his hand and said that he had never received a gift. Jace’s honesty surprised us. What was even more eye-opening was the fact that this fifth-grade boy had never experienced the pleasure and surprise of receiving a present. I wondered about the reason why he might be saying this. Did he want attention from his classmates? No, that was certainly not his style. Was he exaggerating (夸张)? Again, he was not the type. Then I remembered his story. He lived alone with his dad. His father had a hard time holding down a job. A couple of weeks later, Jace was absent from school. This happened to be the day I was sending home the note about the classroom New Year gift exchange. Traditionally, each boy was to bring a gift for a boy in the three-dollar range and the same was true for each girl. As we were discussing the gift exchange, a girl raised her hand and suggested that we do away with our traditional idea, and each buy a gift for Jace instead. The excitement grew as the students discussed the kinds of things they knew Jace would like. We took a quick vote (投票) and all agreed to go ahead with this wonderful idea. With great excitement, the gifts began to come in. Students with bright eyes would excitedly tell me how they found the “perfect gift”. One student bought a complete art set, knowing that Jace loved to draw. Another student found toy aliens (外星人) for him, remembering a paper Jace had recently written about aliens. As the gifts came in, I was so proud of my thoughtful students. After several days of absences, you can imagine our disappointment (失望) when we learned that Jace had moved away! I was sure of one thing. I couldn’t let my students or Jace down. I found my telephone book and called every number listed, but no one knew where Jace and his father were.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I explained the story to Jace and told him how his classmates really wanted to do this for him. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究!2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$………………○……………… ………………○……………… ………………○……………… … 学校:______________姓名:_____________班级:_______________考号:______________________ 绝密★考试结束前 2024-2025学年高一上学期期中模拟卷 英 语 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. 1.What does the man mention about the new school? I found my telephone book and called every number listed, but no one knew where Jace and his father were._______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I explained the story to Jace and told him how his classmates really wanted to do this for him. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 试题 第11页(共12页) 试题 第12页(共12页) 试题 第9页(共12页) 试题 第10页(共12页) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 绝密★考试结束前 2024-2025学年高一英语上学期期中模拟卷 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. 1.What does the man mention about the new school? 根据第一段中“As she told the crowd about her recent experiment and its results, the response was dead silence for two minutes, then a thunderous applause (掌声) continued for ten minutes.(当她向人群讲述她最近的实验及其结果时,回应是两分钟的死寂,然后是持续了十分钟的雷鸣般的掌声)”可知,当她向听众介绍她的实验和结果后,现场先是沉默了两分钟,随后是长达十分钟的雷鸣般掌声,由此可推知,她的演讲很精彩。故选B项。 25. 根据第二段中“Fascinated by new discoveries and the story of women scientists like Marie Curie, she entered National Central University to study physics and then began her scientific studies.(她被新发现和像玛丽·居里这样的女科学家的故事所吸引,于是进入中央大学学习物理,然后开始她的科学研究)”可知,吴健雄被新发现和像玛丽·居里这样的女科学家的故事所吸引,所以选择学习物理。选项B“The success of women scientists”符合题意。故选B项。 26. 根据最后一段中“But shortly after her arrival, her career took an unexpected turn in 1944. 根据第一段“When you think of the most innovative (创新的) organisations, chances are that your mind will immediately go to Apple, Google, or perhaps OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT that is leading the AI revolution. TfL's forward-thinking approach in embracing technology is praiseworthy, improving public safety and providing a more smooth travel experience in London.(TfL处于领先地位,大大减轻了地铁工作人员的工作量。 根据第四段“However, I'm particularly impressed with how it recognizes “aggressive behavior”. 【答案】32.D 33.C 34.C 35.B 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了英国正在建造大量的蜜蜂巴士站。 32.细节理解题。根据文章首段内容,尤其是该段第一句“In an effort to help out important insects like bees and butterflies, bus stops across the United Kingdom (UK) are getting living roofs.”(为了帮助蜜蜂和蝴蝶等重要昆虫,英国各地的巴士站都在建造生机勃勃的屋顶)和该段最后一句“The gardens provide much-needed islands of nature in a man-made environment of a city.”(这些花园在城市的人造环境中提供了亟需的自然岛屿)可知,英国在巴士站的屋顶上建造小花园是为了帮助蜜蜂和蝴蝶等授粉昆虫生存下来,也就是为授粉昆虫提供庇护所。故选D。 33.细节理解题。根据文章第二段中的“But with humans taking over more and more land for cities, roads and farms, more natural areas have disappeared.”(但是,随着人类占用越来越多的土地建设城市、道路和农场,越来越多的自然区域消失了)可知,人类的活动,如占用更多的土地建设城市、道路和农场,导致了更多的自然区域消失,这是英国昆虫数量急剧下降的原因。由此可知,英国昆虫数量下降是由于人类活动的干预。故选C。 34.推理判断题。根据文章第四段中的“In the Netherlands, the city of Utrecht has 300 bee bus stops. Research shows that these bus stops—along with many other steps taken to support pollinators—may be helping. At first, I had no confidence in myself. Learning about this, she talked with me patiently. She took herself as an example, telling me how bad she was when she started to learn English. But her hard work changed everything. With her encouraging me, I have gradually become confident, optimistic and active. Meanwhile, I have made great progress in my English. What’s more, under the influence of her, I have done a lot of voluntary work, improving myself in many aspects. Therefore, I will follow her to lend a hand to those in need, which is very important. I think it’s important, because as the saying goes, to help others is to help yourself. 【导语】这是一篇开放性作文。要求学生写一篇短文参加征稿活动,短文的主题是“学会感激”。 【详解】1.词汇积累 感激:gratitude→appreciation 了解:learn about→know 耐心地:patiently→with patience 开始:at first→in the beginning 2. 句型拓展 陈述句变强调句 原句:What’s more, under the influence of her, I have done a lot of voluntary work, improving myself in many aspects. 拓展句:What’s more, it is under the influence of her that I have done a lot of voluntary work, improving myself in many aspects. 【点睛】 [高分句型1]The person I want to offer my great gratitude to is my English teacher Mrs. Wang, who has helped me a lot in the past several months.(运用了who引导的定语从句) [高分句型2]With her encouraging me, I have gradually become confident, optimistic and active.(运用了with复合结构) 第二节 (满分25分) 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 My fifth-graders were discussing a story about a boy who was not going to be getting anything for his birthday because money was short that year. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 I found my telephone book and called every number listed, but no one knew where Jace and his father were.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I explained the story to Jace and told him how his classmates really wanted to do this for him. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【参考范文】 I found my telephone book and called every number listed, but no one knew where Jace and his father were. The cell phone number I had would ring with no reply although I tried many times. Even into our New Year vacation, I continuously gave the phone number a try. Finally, at 9: 30 pm on New Year’s Eve, I decided to try one last time. I was so used to no answer that I was surprised to hear a reply. Surprisingly, Jace answered the phone! I explained the story to Jace and told him how his classmates really wanted to do this for him. I spoke with his father and soon I was driving to Jace’s home. I was excited to see Jace. It took several trips back and forth to my car to get all of the gifts inside. We filled the room with all of the carefully wrapped gifts. He was so surprised and happy. I was glad that I had an unopened box of chocolates that I could give to him. Jace’s happy smile that evening lit up the sky like shiny lights. 词汇激活 行为类 ①回答:reply/response ②决定:decide to/make up one’s mind to ③看到:see/spot 情绪类 ①惊讶:surprised/astonished ②高兴:happy/glad/delighted 【点睛】 [高分句型1] The cell phone number I had would ring with no reply although I tried many times.
