二、读后续写
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
1. There was a lively young boy named Jimmy who had a bit of an anger problem. He got angry very easily. Whenever something didn’t go his way, Jimmy would shout, stamp his feet, and say some mean words to people.
For example, one day at school, Jimmy’s classmate accidentally knocked over his lunch tray (托盘). Jimmy yelled at his classmate, ignoring the tray that had fallen to the floor, and stomped (迈着重重的步子走) angrily to the corner of the canteen. Another time, his little brother borrowed one of his favorite books without asking. When Jimmy found out, he screamed at his brother, seized the book back, and threw it across the room, which made his brother cry.
Such behavior worried his parents, who wanted to help Jimmy learn to control his temper (脾气). One night, they sat him down and handed him a special notebook and a set of colorful pens. “Jimmy,” his mother said, “every time you feel angry, I want you to write about it in this notebook. Write down what happened, how you felt, and what you did.” Jimmy thought this was a strange request. He looked at the notebook and pens. “Writing about my anger?” he thought. But he agreed.
The next day, when Jimmy was at school, his friend accidentally bumped (撞) into him, causing him to drop his books. Jimmy felt the familiar increase of anger rising inside him. He was just about to shout when he remembered the notebook in his backpack. He took it out, sat down, and began to write. He wrote about the bump, how it made him feel, and what he wanted to do. By the time he finished writing, he felt much calmer.
This continued every day. At first, his notebook filled up quickly with annoying incidents. But as the days passed, the notebook saw fewer and fewer intense stories. Jimmy found that writing down his feelings helped him to control his temper. By the end of the month, Jimmy noticed he was writing in his notebook less and less.

2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

2. Shelly was a teenage girl full of energy and curiosity. She found herself in a familiar yet exciting situation as New Year’s Eve drew near. Her parents, busy doctors in the emergency department, were eager to spend the festive occasion with family at her grandparents’ house. Jason and Judy, Shelly’s loving grandparents, were excited to host the joyous celebration.
In the midst of the busy preparations, Shelly found herself alone in the attic(阁楼) , filled with old trunks and forgotten relics. As she searched through the dusty relics in the attic, her eyes caught a bronze item among the forgotten treasures. It was a Scout badge(童子军徽章) , her father’s from his youthful days as a Scout. This badge held a profound meaning, symbolizing her father’s adventurous spirit and dedication to service.
Eager to share her find, Shelly carefully put the badge into her pocket and rejoined the celebration. As the evening progressed, she proudly showed off the badge to her friends in the neighborhood, sharing tales of her father’s Scouting adventures. However, time flew by with laughter and joy. It was then that the badge slipped unnoticed from her grasp, disappearing into the dark night.
Panic stricken and heartbroken, Shelly quickly searched for the lost badge, checking every corner she had been. But the badge was nowhere to be found. Tears streamed down her face as she knew how disappointed her father would be if he knew she had lost his precious Scout badge. The loss of the badge was not just a physical loss, but a symbol of the connection she felt with her father and his past. Shelly’s world felt incomplete, and she prayed that somehow, she would find the badge and restore the broken bond. She decided to search the neighborhood again.

3. “Tomorrow is Mother’s Day. I’ve been saving up for the past month and I’m going to buy my mother a lipstick she loves,” Cherry, my friend, said on the way home from school. “See you tomorrow!”
We waved goodbye as she went into a gift shop. But her excitement reminded me that I hadn’t prepared anything special for my mother yet. I continued walking along the road, carefully thinking about what gift I should choose. I had planned to buy her some flowers and chocolates. Now, compared with my friend’s lipstick, they seemed to be too simple.
“Maybe I should go to the gift shop, too.” I told myself.
I pushed open the door to a nearby shop and tried to find a perfect gift. I picked up a lipstick but immediately put it back after seeing its price. I could never afford that! Then I walked into another shop and saw a very lovely cup.
“It’d be a wonderful gift and Mum would love it!” I thought.
I picked it up and turned it over to see the price, hoping it was not too expensive. Once again, I couldn’t afford it. Feeling sad, I continued to wander around the shops until darkness fell outside. Eventually, I gave up and went home. When I opened the door, I was greeted by the good smell from the kitchen.
“Mum, I am home!” I pretended to be cheerful.
Mom turned around and kissed me lightly on the cheeks, saying, “Dinner is almost ready. Today, I happened to be able to come home a little bit earlier. I have made some of the snacks you loved when you were a kid. I really missed the happy time we spent together!”

4. My father never told me he loved me when I was a child. I always saw him as being a serious man who rarely had a smile. But my mom told me “I love you” everyday. So I really never thought about not hearing it from my dad. I never really thought about it much until I faced the reality of death.
On November 9th, 1990, I received word that my National Guard unit was going to the war zone. I had been in the Guard for 10 years and never dreamed that we would be activated for a war, even though I knew it was what we trained for. I went to my father and gave him the news. I could sense he was worried about me going but he said nothing, and eight days later I was gone.
On November 17th,1990, our military vehicles rolled out of rural Greenville, Michigan. The streets were filled with families and well-wishers to see us off. As we were close to the edge of town, I looked out the window of my truck and saw my wife, my children, and Mom and Dad. They were all waving and crying, except for my father. He just stood there, almost like a stone statue. He looked pretty old at that moment. I don’t know why, he just did.
I was gone for that Thanksgiving and missed our family’s dinner. A few days after Thanksgiving I was able to call my wife, and she told me something that has made me look at my father in a different way ever since. She told me that my father recited his usual Thanksgiving prayer. But this time he added one last sentence. As a tear ran down his cheek, he said, “Dear Lord, please watch over and guide my son, Rick, with your hand in his time of need as he serves his country, and bring him home to us safely.” At that point he burst into tears. I had never seen my father cry, and when I heard this, I guessed my father really did love me.
Eight months later, I returned home from the war.

5. Mark Mancuso’s phone started ringing. He glanced at it. It was an alarm for the calendar, informing him that it was his mom’s birthday. His mom, Amelia, was two hundred miles from here, a bit of drive, but Mark had driven further to have dinner with a friend. It was just that he didn’t like his mom’s complaints. Then he went to a flower shop. With a smile, he had an idea.
Entering the flower shop, Mark said with a wide grin, “Can you arrange to have flowers delivered to Syracuse, N. Y.? It’s my mom’s 70th birthday, so I’d like to send her a bouquet.”
he flower shop owner replied, “Of course, I only need your mom’s name, phone number and address. Do you want me to help you write a birthday letter?”
“Yes,” Mike said as he read out those information. Then, he added, “Please write: Happy birthday to the most wonderful mom in the world. Your son, Mark.”
Mark went out with a sense of success, seeing a little girl in the corner, crying. Mike crouched (蹲) next to her. “Hi, honey, are you OK?”
“I’m Mandy, and I’d like to buy my mother a rose,” the little girl said as she sobbed.
“But I’m short of money! The flower shop owner told me that I could only get a daisy, but my mother loves red roses.”
“You just wait here,” Mark said and then went to the flower shop and bought Mandy a beautiful red rose. “This is for you,” he said, putting the rose into her hands. Mandy received the rose and looked up at Mike with a smile. “Thank you. But can you take me to my mother? It’s not too far, but I don’t suppose I can get there on my own.”
Mark nodded. Mandy led him along the road. A moment later Mandy took a left, and Mark saw with amazement that they were at the gate of a cemetery (墓地).

The Power of Smile
There are times when a gesture as simple as a smile can do wonders, lighting up someone in the darkness and even healing the soul.
Overwhelmed by the stress from my poor academic performance, I was on the verge of breaking down. Noticing my frustration, Shelly, my best friend came to offer a few words of comfort but I was in such low spirits that I blurted out some sharp words and she ran away weeping. Regrettably, I was too ashamed to apologize and I couldn’t feel worse, which threw me into a world of darkness. The moment I saw her approaching the next day, I lowered my head immediately, trying to avoid her deliberately. However, she stopped me and gave me a hug. When I looked up, I met a smiling face, as gentle as a summer breeze. At that moment, all my anxiety and depression melted away.
When words fail, smile speaks.

Dear classmates,
We’ve all experienced positive and negative moods.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Yours,
Li Hua
【答案】Dear classmates,
We’ve all experienced positive and negative moods. The emotions we feel play an important role in how we think and behave. For one thing, people who are often in a positive mood in their everyday life tend to be happier, healthier and get along better with others. For another, a bad mood can ruin your day, as well as the day of the people around you.
So, what causes a bad mood? There are a variety of reasons for them. For example, we may get into a bad mood because of failing an exam. We may feel down after receiving some bad news or quarreling with our parents or friends. At the same time, too much pressure from work can also makes us unhappy.
However, there are many things we can do to turn our bad mood into a good one. As far as I’m concerned, exercise is one of the keys to get rid of a bad mood. Meanwhile, the simple act of sharing time with others is a great way to release stress and anxiety. So the next time you’re feeling blue, call up a friend or visit a neighbor.
Yours,
Li Hua

【答案】One day, Jimmy realized he hadn’t written anything in the notebook all week and told it to his parents. They smiled warmly, proud of the progress he had made. His father said, “That’s great, Jimmy! It means you’re learning to manage your anger.” Jimmy felt a sense of accomplishment, realizing how much he had grown. “Dear Jimmy, since you have no anger to write, why not write something positive in your notebook?” his mother said.
Jimmy was surprised to be asked to write something positive in his notebook. “Why?” he asked curiously. “Because,” his mother explained, “it’s important to celebrate the good times too. Write about things that make you happy or proud of yourself. It’ll help you focus on the positive aspects of life.” Jimmy nodded, understanding the wisdom in her words. From then on, his notebook became a place where he recorded both his struggles and his victories, helping him navigate through life with a balanced perspective.

【答案】But as time passed, Shelly’s hope of finding the badge began to fade. She tried to be brave and not let her father see how upset she was, but it was difficult to hide her emotions. Her parents noticed the change in her behavior and asked her what was wrong. Shelly reluctantly told them about the lost badge, and her father’s face fell. However, instead of being angry, her father hugged her and told her it was okay. He explained that the badge was special to him, but it was more important that she was safe and happy.
Together, father and daughter set out for the search. They visited the places Shelly had been to during the celebration, and with each step, they held onto hope. As they combed through the streets and parks, they stopped to talk to neighbors and friends, asking if anyone had seen the badge. Finally, as they reached the local park, Shelly spotted a glint of bronze nestled among the fallen leaves. With a rush of relief, she retrieved the precious badge, and their heart swelled with joy and gratitude. Through this experience, Shelly learned the importance of honesty, and the depth of her father’s love and understanding.

【答案】Just then and there, I had a good idea. Since there was no time or money for me to buy a gift, I decided to write a letter to express my love to my mother. Having finished the letter, I ran through the album and selected a picture in which Mum and I were having a picnic in a park. After the clock on my bedroom wall struck 11 pm, I went out to the sitting room and put the letter on the table, hoping that she would see it in the morning.
Early in the morning, I was woken up by the gentle knocks on my door. I jumped out of bed and opened the door. There stood my mother, holding tightly to her chest the letter and the picture. Even in the darkness, I still could feel her excitement. “I love the letter and the picture! It is the best gift I have ever received!” my mother said. “The picture has reminded me the happy moments we spent together! Thank you, my sweetheart!”

【答案】 Eight months later, I returned home from the war. I ran over and hugged my wife and children in a flurry of tears. When I came to my father, I could tell he was excited even though he tried to hide it. I looked at him and then embraced him tightly. He whispered in my ear , “I’m very proud of you, Son , and I love you.”I looked that man , my dad, straight in the eyes as I held his head between my hands and I said, “I love you too, Dad,” and we embraced again. And then together, both of us cried.
Ever since that day, my relationship with my father was never the same. We had many deep conversations with each other, sharing our views on something or attitudes towards life. I learned that he had always been proud of me, and he was not afraid to say “I love you” anymore. Neither was I. I was just sorry that it took so many years and a war to find it out.
