Clay speakers? It might sound far- fetched, but now speakers formed from Mother Earth have been brought to market. Its maker— Mapu Speakers— says the product is around 80 percent sustainable. Yet despite the speakers’ sustainability, those behind them did not initially set out to make the speakers more sustainable. The main inspiration was to bring traditional Chilean crafts and ancestral knowledge into the 21st century. In Chilean regions, specifically in rural Chile, where Mapu co- founder Pablo Ocqueteau was born, the crafts were dying out. There Ocqueteau noticed how most traditional craftspeople were getting on a bit. “There was nobody to succeed them,” he says. As a result, pottery workshops went into liquidation. Ocqueteau and his partner, German- born Philine von Düszeln, wondered how they could help. This thought occupied them for some time. One night, an idea came to Ocqueteau. “I had this moment when the light turned on,” he told Positive News. The story goes that he was lying on the sofa at home in Chile. Music was playing and his eyes wandered around the room. Eventually they landed on a clay jug known as a tinaja, which is used to cool water. Such pots are common in Chilean households. “I thought: ‘Maybe we could make a speaker out of that,’” he says. So that’s what he and Düszeln did. Craftspeople in rural Chile were only too happy to help the pair realize their vision. Finally, the pair built their speaker out of local materials and called it Mapuguaquén, which means “sound of the earth” in the Mapuche language. Now the pair are bringing the handmade speakers to market. More recently, Mapu has started working with craftspeople in Molelos, Portugal, on another line of speakers. “We want to help make the crafts more attractive to young people again,” says Düszeln. “Our mission goes beyond making speakers. We dream of a crafts revolution to highlight traditional handerafts in our industrialized world, building a bridge between ancestral knowledge and technology,” write Ocqueteau and Düszeln on the company’s website. 24.What was the main vision behind clay speakers? A.To show respect for Mother Earth. B.To keep traditional Chilean crafts alive. C.To create environmentally sustainable products. D.To help traditional craftspeople improve their crafts. 25.What does the underlined part “went into liquidation” in paragraph 3 mean? A.Burnt down. B.Settled down. C.Closed down. D.Slowed down. 26.What inspired Ocqueteau to make a speaker? A.An ordinary clay pot. B.The story about Chile. C.A report from Positive News. D.The gentle light music in his room. 27.What do the pair expect of their speakers? A.They can appeal to craftspeople around the world. B.They can mix technology with ancestral knowledge. C.They can encourage young people to become artists. D.They can promote technology in the industrialized world. Researchers have developed a groundbreaking method of storing and handling valuable biological materials that removes the limitations of refrigerated storage. The novel method has potential applications in healthcare and scientific research. Biological materials that come from human cells, like enzymes, proteins, and antibodies, are crucial to developing new medicines and diagnostic tests. And they’re fragile. Extremely temperature-sensitive, they require a constant temperature during storage, handling, and transportation. If not stored or handled correctly, these materials will be inactive, which can be costly. Most biological materials are stored as liquids or freeze-dried powders and kept at low temperatures for the duration of their shelf life. This is achieved through a complex integrated system of refrigerators and freezers known as the cold chain. This requires a significant investment in equipment and infrastructure, making it expensive to maintain, and makes the cold chain prone to shipping delays, power outages, equipment failure and human error. Inspired from the home medicine cabinet (储藏柜), where medications are stored in the form of liquids, powder-filled capsules, and tablets, researchers at California Polytechnic State University have developed a new storage platform based on the humble tablet that would enable biological materials to be compressed (压缩) into a solid state. Tablets provide advantages to the storage and handling of biomaterials that the cold chain doesn’t. For one thing, they can be stored at room temperature. And, when they’re required, the tablet can be dissolved in water. “Our innovation makes storing and using biomaterials as straightforward as an effervescent tablet (泡腾片). Just drop it into water, mix, and it’s ready to go,” said the researcher of the study. The researchers say their new tablet-based storage and handling method is easy to use and doesn’t require special training, making it suitable for many applications. They also see potential uses beyond just improving the storage and handling of biological materials. By modifying (修改) the tablet coatings, this solid-state storage platform could withstand extreme conditions like heat, humidity, and chemicals. These changes might eventually allow injectable medications, such as insulin, to be taken orally. 28.What is a special requirement to store biological materials? A.Constant temperature maintenance. B.Exposure to various temperatures. C.Periodically freezing and melting. D.Direct contact with air. 29.What is the researchers’ attitude to their storage method? A.Favorable. B.Skeptical. C.Disappointed. D.Grateful. 30.Which word can replace the underlined word “withstand” in the last paragraph? A.Demonstrate. B.Stand. C.Adopt. D.Distinguish. 31.What is the text mainly about? A.Challenges of storing biological materials. B.The making process of effervescent tablets. C.Healthcare applications of biological materials. D.A new tablet storage method of biological materials. People have understood that kindness is good for the person who receives help. For example, when we give food to a hungry person, he is blessed. However, scientists have recently begun to study the effect kindness has on the person giving it. What they have found is that doing good is good for the doer. Acts of kindness can improve health, help a person reach goals and even add years to a person's life. The first study to show the connection between doing good and living a long life was a study on aging. Beginning in 1956, scientists studied a group of married mothers for 30 years. They thought the women with the most children would die first. But the number of children a woman had did not matter. Wealth did not matter. Education did not matter. What did matter was whether they volunteered. Women that volunteered had fewer diseases during their life. Many other studies have found the same positive effects. Helping other people improves long-term health. The gains are the same for the men, women, old people and the young. Those who volunteered had fewer serious diseases than those who did not volunteer. This included diseases such as heart attack, cancer and stroke. Scientists are researching many possible causes. One possible cause is an increase and antibodies (抗体), which help fight against disease. One study showed the body produces more antibodies after an act of kindness. This increase in antibodies can last nearly an hour after one act of kindness is finished. Another one is an increase in chemical that fights the effects of stress from life. Scientists have found a link between being kind to people and an increase in the chemical oxytocin (催产素). Oxytocin is a chemical produced in the brain. It reduces many of the harmful chemicals the body produces under stress. 32.What did the study in paragraph 2 show? A.Diseases age people fast. B.Doing good is good for one’s health. C.Women with more kids die earlier. D.A long marriage leads to a long life. 33.What can we infer about antibodies from paragraph 4? A.More antibodies may not be good. B.They help people reduce pressure. C.They increase with one’s kind acts. D.The more antibodies, the more oxytocin. 34.How does the author develop the last two paragraphs? A.By explaining the causes. B.By making comparisons. C.By introducing a method. D.By describing a chemical. 35.What does the underlined word “it” probably refers to? A.Oxytocin. B.The brain. C.Stress. D.Helping others. An essential writing skill is the ability to use plain language effectively to convey ideas clearly. Plain language involves using direct and accessible language with a straightforward structure. To write in plain language, it is important to follow certain guidelines. 36 The only details necessary are those necessary for understanding. For example, the sign “Wait behind the yellow line,” at a train platform includes “yellow” so travelers know where to stand. Plain language avoids using vocabulary that requires specialized knowledge. If you work in IT, you can comfortably use the word “latency” with your colleagues. 37 But when speaking with someone without an IT background, you might instead use “slow” to ensure that they know what you’re talking about. Plain language is more than word choices, though. It also involves structuring writing to prioritize clarity. 38 For example, use clear headers for each section. Mention the topic early in a sentence or paragraph. Write directly to your reader. 39 Additionally, use the active voice whenever possible to enhance clarity. It is important to note that not every guideline for plain writing will apply to every piece of writing. The ultimate goal is to create contents that are accessible and easily understood. By using plain language, you demonstrate respect for your readers’ time and intelligence. 40 A.That is because they know what it means. B.This can be achieved in the following ways. C.Thus, it develops positive relationships with them. D.In many cases, this means writing in the second person point of view. He spends quality time playing with his baby sister while his mother busies herself in the kitchen, cooking dinner. And after meals, he dutifully assists his father with drying the dishes. However, Jeremy’s favorite job is feeding Fletch, the family’s pet cat. Fletch is a handsome cat, his fur a mix of brown and black, adorned with tiger stripes running across his back. When he’s hungry, Fletch has a unique way of communicating with Jeremy. He gently bumps his head against Jeremy’s legs, a silent reminder that it’s time for his meal. One evening after dinner, Mom asked Jeremy to find Baby Suzy’s doll. “I think she might have dropped it in the backyard this afternoon,” she said worriedly. “She won’t be able to sleep without it. Can you take a look before it gets too dark?” Without hesitation, Jeremy opened the back door and ran outside. The bright red doll stood out among the grass, making it easy for him to spot. Grabbing it, he ran back inside, relieved to have found it. Later that night, as Jeremy prepared for bed, he remembered his usual routine. He always said goodnight to Fletch before turning off the light, but the cat was nowhere to be found. Jeremy searched the bathroom and hallway, but Fletch was missing. Worried, he went downstairs to go on his search. He checked the living room and dining room, but still no sign of Fletch. As he reached the kitchen, Jeremy’s heart sank. 重点词汇 far - fetched(牵强的)、sustainable(可持续的)、liquidation(清算)、tinaja(陶壶)、Mapuguaquén(扬声器名称,马普瓜肯,在马普切语中意为 “大地之声”)、handerafts(应为 handcrafts,手工艺) 长难句式 In Chilean regions, specifically in rural Chile, where Mapu co - founder Pablo Ocqueteau was born, the crafts were dying out. 由文章第二段“The main inspiration was to bring traditional Chilean crafts and ancestral knowledge into the 21st century. 语篇导读 关键词 biological materials、storage method、refrigerated storage、healthcare、scientific research、tablet - based storage 文章大意 研究人员开发出一种突破传统冷藏储存限制的生物材料储存和处理新方法,生物材料对医药研发很重要但对温度敏感,传统冷链储存成本高且易出问题,新方法以药片为基础,生物材料可被压缩成固态,有诸多优势,如可室温储存、使用方便且用途可能不止于改善生物材料储存处理,还可能让注射药物可口服。 重点词汇 groundbreaking(开创性的)、enzymes(酶)、antibodies(抗体)、shelf life(保质期)、cold chain(冷链)、humble(普通的)、effervescent(冒泡的)、withstand(经受住) 长难句式 Biological materials that come from human cells, like enzymes, proteins, and antibodies, are crucial to developing new medicines and diagnostic tests. 翻译:来自人类细胞的生物材料,如酶、蛋白质和抗体,对开发新药物和诊断测试至关重要。 【答案】28.A 29.A 30.B 31.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了加州州立理工大学的研究人员通过研究,找到了可以在常温下存储和处理生物材料的方法。 28.细节理解题。根据第二段“And they’re fragile. C.Stress. E.One key aspect of plain writing is ensuring sentences are as short as possible. F.This can be especially important for those who speak English as a second language. G.Plain language reduces the risk of misunderstandings caused by confusing language choices. 【答案】36.E 37.A 38.B 39.D 40.C 【导语】这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了使用通俗易懂的语言写作时需要遵循一些通用的指导原则。 36.根据下文“The only details they include are those necessary for the reader to understand the sentences’ meaning. For example, the sign “Wait behind the yellow line,” at a train platform includes “yellow” so travelers know where to stand.(它们只包括那些读者理解句子意义所必需的细节。例如,火车站台上,“请在黄线后面等候”这句话包含了“黄色”,这样旅客就知道应该站在哪里。)”可知,写作时只包括那些读者理解句子意义所必需的细节。火车站台的例子表明内容要简短。结合选项E项One key aspect of plain writing is ensuring sentences are as short as possible.(简洁写作的一个关键方面是确保句子尽可能短。),和下文内容意思一致,紧密连接,符合语境。故选E项。 37.根据上文“If you work in IT, you can comfortably use the word “latency” with your colleagues.(如果您从事IT工作,那么您可以轻松地与同事使用“latency”这个词。)”提到您可以轻松地与同事使用“latency”这个词,以及下文“But when speaking with someone without an IT background, you might instead use “slow” to ensure that they know what you’re talking about.(但是当你和一个没有IT背景的人说话时,你可以用“slow”来确保他们知道你在说什么。)”可推测,空处谈论的是和同事们说话用词的问题,不同背景应该使用不同的词汇。结合选项A项That is because they know what it means.(那是因为他们知道这意味着什么。)可知,A项中的they指代的时候上文中的colleagues,这也与下文中的they指导内容一致,起到上下文的承上启下作用。故选A项。 38.根据上文“Plain language is more than word choices, though. It also involves structuring writing to prioritize clarity.(然而,简单的语言不仅仅是词语的选择。它还包括组织写作,优先考虑清晰。)”提到简单的语言不仅仅是词语的选择,还包括其它东西,以及下文“For example, use clear headers for each section.  Mention the topic early in a sentence or paragraph. Write directly to your read.(例如,每个部分使用清晰的标题。在句子或段落的开头尽早提及主题。直接写给读者。)”可知,上文强调组织写作,优先考虑清晰,下文给出了具体的做法。结合选项B项This can be achieved in the following ways.(这可以通过以下方式实现。)可知,This指代的是“It also involves structuring writing to prioritize clarity.”,“in the following ways”呼应的是下“文For example, use clear headers for each section.  Mention the topic early in a sentence or paragraph. Write directly to your read.”,起到上下文的承上启下作用,符合语境。故选B项。 39.根据上文 “Write directly to your reader. (直接写给读者。)”,再结合D项“In many cases, this means writing in the second person point of view.(在很多情况下,这意味着要运用第二人称来写作)”可知,this指代的是“直接写给读者”这一方法,运用第二人称来写作呼应“直接写给读者”这一语意,故选D项。 40.根据上文“By using plain language, you demonstrate respect for your readers’ time and intelligence.(通过使用通俗易懂的语言,你表现出对读者时间和智慧的尊重。)”提到通过使用通俗易懂的语言的好处。结合选项C项“Thus, it develops positive relationships with them.(因此,它与他们发展了积极的关系。)”中 them,指代的是上文的readers,且和上文内容意思相关,同样介绍其好处,上下文紧密连接,符合语境。故选C项。 第三部分语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题:每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 【来源】重庆市SAGSSAT普通高等学校招生2024-2025学年高三上学期适应性考试试题 The Unlikely Friendship In the heart of the city stood an old library, a place where time seemed to slow down. Tears began to well up in his eyes. Mom, who was enjoying a cup of tea, looked up and noticed his worry. “Jeremy, you should be in bed by now! What’s wrong?” she asked, concern etched on her face. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。 “The back door is open!” Jeremy cried, uneasiness creeping into his voice. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next morning, Jeremy was awoken by a familiar sound — a loud “Meow”. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】“The back door is open!” Jeremy cried, uneasiness creeping into his voice. “And I can’t find Fletch anywhere!” “I think you’re right to be worried,” she said, her voice calm yet filled with sympathy. “Fletch may have slipped out through the open door.” “Fletch may slipped out the door.” Jeremy’s eyes welled up with tears. “Fletch ran away and it’s all my fault! I left the door open!” he sobbed. Mom wrapped her arms around Jeremy, offering comfort. They sat together until Jeremy stopped crying. “Cats are very smart,” Mom said gently. “Fletch will probably find his way home for breakfast.” The next morning, Jeremy was awoken by a familiar sound — a loud “Meow.” He jumped out of bed and ran downstairs, his heart full of hope. He made his way straight to the back door and pushed it open wide. There, sitting calmly, was Fletch, licking his paw as he washed his face. Fletch looked at Jeremy and meowed. Then, without hesitation, he slipped inside and made his way to his food bowl. Jeremy’s heart filled with relief and joy. He gave Fletch an extra scoop of cat food. “Next time I’ll make sure I close the door nice and tight,” Jeremy promised, his voice filled with determination. “Meow,” Fletch replied, seemingly content and at peace. 词汇激活行为类 ①提供:offer/provide ②确信:make sure/ensure ③承诺:promise/commit 情绪类 ①担忧的:worried/concerned ②快乐:joy/pleasure 【点睛】 [高分句型1]They sat together until Jeremy stopped crying.(运用了till引导时间状语从句) [高分句型2]Mom wrapped her arms around Jeremy, offering comfort.(运用了现在分词作状语) 试卷第22页,共27页 试卷第21页,共27页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 【赢在高考·黄金8卷】备战2025年高考英语模拟卷(新高考八省专用) 黄金卷03·参考答案 英语·答案及评分标准 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 1—5 BBABC 6—10 ABCAB 11—15 ABCAA 16—20. He gave Fletch an extra scoop of cat food. “Next time I’ll make sure I close the door nice and tight,” Jeremy promised, his voice filled with determination. “Meow,” Fletch replied, seemingly content and at peace.
