(2024·广东省揭阳市揭东区高一上期末)The first week of September was a week that I had been expecting all summer. I didn't want summer to end, but I was excited about going to high school for my first week.
When I got to school in the morning on the first day I realized how large the school was, and how many students went there. I ended up in the wrong classroom because of the size of the school. Luckily, a kind senior showed up and guided me to my homeroom before I was late. I was happy to see that in a class of unfamiliar faces, the only open seat was next to my good friend, Casey. My science teacher seemed like a good teacher. She was exciting and fun.
After finishing four periods without too much of a challenge, I didn't feel too bad about ninth grade. However, the fifth period changed everything. I didn't feel ready after all. My teacher's name is Mr Valassidis but he told us to call him Mr V. Mr V told us that we would have to write 40 essays (文章) and read APlevel books such as The Odyssey this year. I love reading and writing, but come on, 40 ESSAYS? APlevel books? Now I was afraid.
The courses in high school seem like they're going to get much harder, but they haven't yet. Even though my classes look hard, they look really exciting too.
The first week passed quickly. Although a lot of things were overwhelming: the size of the campus, the crowds and the seniors, having a totally different experience than I had ever had before was really exciting. Now, I'm really happy about high school. I have lots of friends in my classes, I really like my teachers and I'm meeting new people.

(2024·湖南省长沙市成德学校高一上期末)“Your playful days are over,” my brother said to me when he knew I was going to be a Senior One student. Then he continued telling me that senior school life was boring because I had to do a large amount of homework every day. The subjects were much more difficult than those of junior school.
I stepped into the school gate with a nervous heart. However, I was surprised to find what I experienced there was completely different from what my brother had told me.
The teachers gave excellent lessons in their own special way. They talked with me in a natural and fair way, as if I was an adult. All of them are so knowledgeable and they not only explained the contents of textbooks but also provided extra information from other sources. Every word they said in classes made me so excited and interested that I had a strong desire to take in as much as I could.
In fact, my playful days were not over at all in senior school. There were many kinds of activities I could take part in. For example, sports meetings, the art festival, English corner, outing and so on. Best of all, generally, students organized the activities rather than teachers. Through this process, I improved my leadership abilities and communication skills. I've become mature (成熟的). I am not a kid any more.
Now if anyone asks me: “Through your process of growing up, which part is most impressive up till now?” Well, the answer will absolutely be my “senior high school life”.

Advice on how to help you beat test stress
Studying for your tests at school can sometimes make you feel a bit stressed or worried, so we've put together some top advice to help you feel calmer and more confident.
Don't compare yourself to your friends. Everyone learns things differently and some people find things easier than others. Choose a revision plan that works best for you. If your friends are different, then that's fine. __1__
If you are feeling stressed, talk to someone. It could be a friend, a teacher or your family. Don't feel like you're letting people down by admitting you are feeling stressed. __2__ They will hopefully help you to feel better.
Try to take regular breaks during your revision. Taking your mind off things will help give your brain time to deal with all the information you are learning. __3__ You could go for a walk or even just close your eyes and relax for a few minutes.
__4__ It's important to try to eat well and get lots of sleep during the leadup to a test. If you don't give your mind a rest or give your body the right energy, it might not work as well as it could.
Doing exercise really helps! Whether you are playing football, going for a walk or a run, dancing, or even just riding your bike, exercise can really help to take your mind off things. __5__
A.Get plenty of sleep.
B.Look after your body.
C.You could even bring a friend to talk about the exam.
