Traveling alone for the first time can be amazing, but it may also be a little worrying. Here are just a few ideas bloggers (博主) have shared.
Costa Rica
Blogger: Kristin
This Central American country of green forests and golden beaches is perfect for travelers. It’s thought to be one of the safest parts of Latin America, and it’s popular with nature-loving tourists, which means there should be plenty of other travelers to make friends with. The Spanish-speaking country is also good for anyone traveling without too much money to spend.
Ireland
Blogger: Ella
Ireland isn’t as cheap as Costa Rica, but it’s friendly, safe and beautiful — and the people are always happy to help you out. Public transport isn’t very good here, but you could rent a car or take a bus tour from the big cities to the wild beauty of the coast.
New Zealand
Blogger: Courtney
There’s lots of wild beauty in New Zealand, too, and it’s another place where you can travel around easily if you speak a little English. It’s very safe, and there are travelers everywhere, so you’ll be able to make friends if you want to.
Malta
Blogger: Adam
This Mediterranean island is known to be easy to get around — everything you want to see or do is no more than an hour away from your hotel. The good news for anyone learning English is that English is one of the country’s official languages, along with Maltese.
1. What does Kristin advise travelers to do in Costa Rica?
A. Swim in the sea. B. Take a bus tour.
C. Explore the wild alone. D. Enjoy beautiful views.
2. Which blogger mentions poor public transport?
A. Kristin. B. Ella. C. Courtney. D. Adam.
3. What do New Zealand and Malta have in common?
A. They are in the same continent.
B. People in both countries speak English.
C. There are few travelers visiting both countries.
D. They have large forest areas to attract travelers.

During the Spring Festival, I argued with my mother at the dining table. It was supposed to be a joyful time, but a small matter broke the mood. Back in my room, I cried while looking through short videos and accidentally saw one.
In the video, a young woman comes home to a messy kitchen. Her “son” is covered in dough (生面团) and flour. She quickly turns off the gas stove and is relieved that everything is safe. She then angrily scolds (责骂) her five-year-old “son”, who cries loudly. Watching this, I couldn’t understand. What can a child understand? Even if he did something wrong, she shouldn’t take her anger out on him! It looked like he was trying to make dumplings for his “mother”.
The woman then realizes she lost her cool and softens her tone, saying, “Today we’ll eat out. We should have something special for the New Year.” They go to a busy street and choose a noodle shop. After paying, the woman notices her “son” is missing. She searches everywhere, worried, and finally finds him standing in front of a dumpling restaurant. She runs over and cries, “Why did you run away? You frightened me!” The “son” points to the dumplings and says,“Dumplings... your favorite. We should eat dumplings for the New Year.” The woman is very surprised.
The video then shows the “son’s” face aging, showing it’s actually a daughter caring for her father, who has the mind of a child.
The woman remembers making dumplings with her father during the Spring Festival when she was young. Now her elderly father has the mind of a child.
Everything makes sense now. Parents can always forgive their children’s mistakes, but children often have high expectations of their parents—even as they age.
Why can’t I be more understanding of my mother? The person spending the New Year with me should be the one I cherish the most. Thinking this, I put down my phone and walked out of my room.
4. Why did the author argue with his mother during the Spring Festival?
A. Because of a big problem. B. Because of a short video.
C. Because of a misunderstanding. D. Because of a small thing.
5. What was the “son’s” intention when he made a mess in the kitchen?
A. To play with dough. B. To frighten his “mother”.
C. To make dumplings for his “mother”. D. To force his “mother” to go shopping with him.
6. What did the young woman in the video decide to do after scolding her “son”?
A. Say sorry to him. B. Take him out to eat. C. Send him to his room. D. Make dumplings together.
7. What lesson did the author learn from the video?
A. Be a more understanding child. B. Making dumplings is too difficult.
C. Always clean up mess after cooking. D. Children should respect their parents.
C
A survey has found that more and more British people are taking steps to a more eco-friendly living as climate (气候) change becomes a bigger problem. According to the survey, green living is on the rise among British people, with 79% of participants (参与者) saying that they are greener than they were ten years ago.
The survey including 2,000 British people found that four out of five British people say they are greener than they were a decade ago. 61% of participants believe that they have a duty to live a greener lifestyle, and 70% want to keep making lifestyle changes to be more eco-friendly.
What actions are people taking? The survey found that reuse, eating less meat and avoiding single-use plastics are the most common eco-friendly actions. It also found that people do not understand which actions can be the most helpful for the environment.
For example, 53% of participants didn’t know that cars have a higher carbon footprint (碳排放量) than trains, and only 19% are now trying to travel more by train to reduce the pollution.
Of course, this is just one study with a group of 2,000 people. Even so, there does seem to be a move towards greener living. For example, according to the official website, the reusing rate increased in England between 2010 and 2019. Research by NatCen Social Research found a big drop in meat eating between 2012 and 2018.
While we shouldn’t celebrate too soon — there is still lots of work to be done to fight climate change any move towards greener living is certainly good news!
8. How did the author present the findings?
A. By listing data. B. By showing climate change.
C. By discussing reasons. D. By giving personal opinions.
9. What is shown in paragraph 3?
A. Which ways are much greener. B. Why people choose greener living.
C. How people practise greener living. D. What actions people take to live healthily.
10. What do we know about the survey?
A. More than 2,000 people took part in it.
B. 70% of participants dislike making a change.
C. About half participants know little about eco-friendly acts.
D. 19% of participants have a rich knowledge of the environment.
11. What is the author’s attitude to greener living in Britain?
A. Doubtful. B. Cold. C. Frank. D. Optimistic.
D
Travel 200 kilometers out of Khartoum into the Sudanese desert, and you’ll see the ancient pyramids (金字塔) of Meroe, which look like a mirage (海市蜃楼). These pyramids are far away from the busy tourist places of the Egyptian pyramids. This area of North Sudan used to be part of the land of the pharaohs (kings of ancient Egypt), which is why there are so many amazing pyramids and temples here.
The pyramids are about 5,000 years old. This is a topic of debate between the Sudanese government, which says the pyramids are older than those in Egypt, and scientists from other countries.
Thousands of years ago, Meroe was the capital city of the Kingdom of Kush, ruled by the Nubian Dynasty. The pyramids here are spread across three sites and are different from the Egyptian pyramids because they have smaller bases and steeper (更陡峭的) sides. Many people don’t know that this place in North Africa has about 200 pyramids and temples, which is more than those in all of Egypt. Sudan’s pyramids were built as tombs (坟墓) for Nubian kings.
Step inside today, and you’ll see paintings on the walls that show important moments from the rule of this famous king. Considering their age and remote location, it’s amazing that these buildings are still mostly complete. However, careful visitors might notice that some of the pyramids are missing their top points. This is because an Italian explorer ravaged some of the pyramids in the 1880s while looking for treasure.
UNESCO has listed the pyramids as a world heritage site.
12. What is the author’s main purpose of writing paragraph 1?
A. To show what a mirage is like. B. To introduce the topic of the text.
C. To explain the historical significance of Meroe. D. To stress the importance of the pyramids of Meroe.
13. How are the pyramids of Meroe different from the Egyptian pyramids?
A. They are more important. B. They are in a steeper area.
C. They are smaller and steeper. D. They are made of all kinds of materials.
14. What does the underlined word “ravaged” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Updated. B. Exchanged. C. Improved. D. Destroyed.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Ancient Kingdom of Kush B. The Debate over Pyramids’ Age
C. The Discovery of Meroe’s Mirage D. The Valuable Pyramids of Meroe

When I was in my late twenties, I studied tae kwon do (跆拳道). This surprised my friends, who immediately started to look at me in amazement. I surprised myself by progressing from white belt to yellow, then to green, and finally to blue.
Friday nights were practising nights. I paired off with a woman of my size. We circled each other hitting and kicking without making actual physical contact, Sometimes, the silence of the room was broken by a loud voice when someone was doing an attacking move. The voice was a necessary part of our practice. It helped each of us focus, call up energy, and frighten our opponents (对手).
Tae kwon do has many rules. Bow when entering. Bow to your partner. No shoes are allowed. No talking is allowed. And above all, keep your focus on yourself.
On this particular night, I noticed a new student who seemed worried. She wasn’t fighting back, She wasn’t keeping up. She looked frightened. Before class was over, she left the room quickly. I stopped kicking, bowed to my partner, and ran after the new student. I found her curling up (蜷缩起来) and crying on the dressing room floor. “It’s too hard,” she cried. “I can’t do it.”
“It’s okay,” I told her. “Cry it out. You will do it well! Sometimes the things we hate the most become the things we love the most,” I knew that practising often brought up strong memories and emotions and that many women found it terrifying to practise tae kwon do.
The student left, and I gathered up my things. After class, my partner approached to speak to me. I expected she would praise me for what I did. Instead, I was scolded. “It’s not your business,” she said. “Next time, leave her alone.” I was shocked, And I disagreed with what she said.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

【47题答案】
【答案】 So I talked back to her. “I hope one day if I’m sitting on the dressing room floor crying my heart out, someone will come to comfort me,” I said with a trembling but determined voice. Raising her eyebrows in surprise, my partner stood still, as if rooted on the ground. She replied, “It’s our rule,” “But whatever happens, we’d better show our love and care,” I said. Moved by my words later, she nodded her head slowly. I did my part to give the student some advice and help ever since.
