Unit3 Learning About Language (1) 课时内容 Build up your vocabulary 主题语境:人与自然 主题群:环境保护 子主题:节能减排,促进人与自然和谐共生语篇类型:文本、练习 文本分析:本节课为词汇课,主要围绕 Reading and Thinking 板块阅读语篇中的重点课标词汇设计。活动1提供了五个独立的句子,要求学生选择方框中的课标词汇并使用其适当形式填空,使句子意义完整。活动2是语篇填空,介绍了二氧化碳排放的两大来源,以及中国政府正在实施的政策和措施,旨在节能减排,促进人与自然和谐共生,构建可持续发展的能源体系,倡导“适量、绿色、低碳”的生活方式,因而是对主阅读语篇内容的补充。活动3聚焦同(近)义词汇的积累、辨析和运用。本节课旨在帮助学生围绕本单元主题积累词块,深入理解其含义和用法,构建主题语境的词汇库,并且贯穿在整个单元的学习和运用中。 课时目标 学完本课后,学生能够: 1.复习和巩固本单元Reading and Thinking语篇中出现的重点单词和词块。 2.积累、辨析和运用目标词汇,构建词汇网络,丰富词汇库。 重点难点 重点 1.引导学生对重点课标词汇进行理解、掌握和运用。 2.引导学生通过构词法理解和掌握课标词汇的其他词性的形式和意义,了解词汇学习策略的重要作用。 难点 对部分重点课标词汇与同(近)义词的辨析。 教学准备 教师准备:词汇相关练习。 学生准备:预习相关词汇。 精彩课堂 Step I 学习理解 活动一:感知与注意 Ask students to look through the reading text and find out the sentences containing the words in Activity 1 and Activity 2. Suggested answers: ①In fact, news reports are frequently broadcast(广播) about extreme rainstorms and heatwaves causing deaths and economic losses. ②There is srong and comprehensive(全面的)evidence that the rise in temperature has led to an increase in extreme weather and natural disasters worldwide,... ③This alarming case showed how the increase in temperature had an impact on Earth's ecology(生态). ④An expert who has studied polar bears for many years said that from the position of its dead body, the bear appeared to have starved(挨饿)and died. ⑤It is our responsibility to seize(抓住)every opportunity to educate everyone about global warming,... ⑥When people produce huge amounts of extra greenhouse gases by burning fossil fuels(燃料),... ⑦Governments need to consider making policies(政策)and taking appropriate actions and measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. ⑧The heat is released(释放)back into space at longer wave lengths. ⑨We as individuals can also reduce our "carbon footprint" by restricting(限制)the amount of carbon dioxide our lifestyles produce. ⑩Without this process, Earth could not sustain(维持)life. ⑪Climate scientists have warned that if we do not take appropriate actions, this warming trend(趋势)will probably continue and there will be a higher price to pay. 活动二:获取与梳理 Ask students to read the sentences they find and give the meaning of each word. 【设计意图】通过浏览课文,找出重点单词所在的句子并理解其含义,使学生对单元语篇中的重点单词进行复习和巩固,为之后的填空练习作铺垫。 Step II 应用实践 活动三:内化与运用 1. Ask students to complete the sentences with the correct forms of the words in the box.(Activity 1) Suggested answers: ①ecological ②starved ③comprehensive④broadcasts⑤seize 【设计意图】该活动主要帮助学生巩固重点课标词汇,让学生在语境中理解单词的意义和功能,学习课标词汇的搭配用法。 2. Ask students to underline the key phrases in Activity 1 and make up some sentences. Suggested answers: provides...for...; starved to death; comprehensive reform; make broadcasts; spread awareness of; seizing the initiative ①The soup kitchen provides free food for homeless people in the community. ②During the 1950s, thousands of seabirds starved to death due to thesevere marine oil pollution in North Atlantic Ocean. 偶有所得 ③That far-reaching comprehensive reform of the English educational system has influenced a generation of students whose listening and speaking skills were greatly improved. ④As a fan of history, she thought that the media should make more brondcasts that spread awareness of heritage conservation. ⑤This famous athlete says that the secret to his success is seizing the initiative in the competition and never losing heart when facing challenges. 【设计意图】通过找出活动1中的核心短语并造句,帮助学生理解、掌握和运用核心短语 3. Ask students to complete the passage with the correct forms of the words in the box.(Activity 2) Suggested answers: released; fuels; trend; policies; restrict; sustainable 【设计意图】通过在具体篇章语境中运用重点词汇,提高学生对词汇的运用能力。 活动四:描述与阐释 Ask students to answer the following questions based on the passage in Activity 2. ·How is carbon dioxide released? ·What is China doing to address the climate change? Suggested answers: ·Carbon dioxide is released through human activities such as destroying forests and burning fossil fuels, as well as natural processes such as volcanic eruptions. ·China is implementing significant policies and measures to address climate change,aiming to restrict coal consumption, promote a harmonious relationship between man and nature, build a sustainable energy system, and advocate a moderate,green, and low-carbon lifestyle. 【设计意图】通过提问帮助学生理解文本大意,了解二氧化碳排放的两大来源以及中国政府正在实施的节能减排的政策和措施,是对主阅读语篇内容的补充。 Step III 迁移创新 活动五:想象与创造 1. The following words and phrases can all mean "to make something happen". Ask students to look them up in the dictionary and discuss their differences. Then have students create sentences of their own using each of them. Suggested answers: ①Most scientists believe climate change is caused by burning fossil fuels. ②Every person should be responsible for their own waste when they are out and about. ③It may seem hard to bring about real change, but we must not give up hope. ④Smoking can lead to serious diseases such as cancer. ⑤Charging customers for plastic bags has resulted in a 70% drop in their usage. 【设计意图】学习和积累同(近)义词汇能够帮助学生掌握更丰富的词汇,可以使语言表达生动、准确、得体,同时学生运用词汇的能力也会得到提升。通过造句活动,学生能够做到用词达意,准确表达思想。 2.
