A giraffe without spots (斑点) was born at a zoo in Tennessee on July 31, 2023.
David Bright, one of the zoo’s owners, said the brown animal is very uncommon. Spots usually serve as camouflage (保护色) for giraffes in the wild. So predators (捕食者) can’t find them easily.
After the giraffe was born, the zoo chose to post her online in order to raise people’s attention (关注) to giraffes and protect them better. “With this being such a special situation, we knew that it would bring a lot of attention to giraffes,” said Bright. “We want to take this chance to show people how they can help giraffes in the wild.” The number of giraffes in the wild has dropped in the past 44 years. For example, there were about 155,000 giraffes in Africa in 1980 compared to about 117,000 today. Giraffes are really in danger.
Now, this baby giraffe is almost one year old. She is healthy and can be seen at the zoo along with her mother. Along with asking the public to draw pictures for her as her birthday gifts, the zoo is also asking people to think about giving money to protect giraffes. “We want to make sure that people will be able to see these wonderful animals in the future,” the zoo said.

①How do you feel when your teacher asks you to work in a group with other students? Do you like to work together with others or work alone? The Program for International Student Assessment, or PISA, made a study of students’ ability (能力) to work together in groups.
②After doing hundreds of questionnaire surveys, case studies and experiments, they found that students who do well on tests by themselves may also be better at working with other people.
③This finding was true for many countries. Students in Japan, South Korea, Finland and Canada who had high scores in testing also did well in working together to solve problems.
④But this was not the case for every country. Chinese students, who had high scores as well, showed just usual collaborative (合作的) skills.
⑤“One reason might be that Chinese parents and teachers focus too much on grades,” said Zhao Zhongxin, the researcher of the study. “Students have a lot of exam pressure and they see school as a place for competition.”
⑥“However, the collaborative skill is very important to students in today's society,” Zhao added. “Luckily, more Chinese parents and teachers are realizing the importance of this skill and are thinking of ways to help students improve it. ”
⑦Another interesting finding from the PISA study was that girls are better than boys at working together. They said girls show more positive attitudes (积极态度) towards relationships, which means they are gladder to listen to others’ opinions.
⑧PISA also found that the classroom environment can help students collaborate (合作). In classes, there are a lot of activities that need communication. So students can collaborate better.
36. How does the writer start this passage?
A. By comparing facts. B. By giving examples. C. By asking questions. D. By telling stories.
37. What was the study by PISA about?
A. It was about teachers’ ability to work with their students.
B. It was about students’ ability to work together in groups.
C. It was about students’ performance in different subjects.
D. It was about schools’ lessons for communication skills.
38. According to passage, how can a teacher organize a group work well?
A. Let the students take part in the group work in class.
B. Only ask girl students to take part in the group work.
C. Make sure most of students in the group are boys.
D. Encourage Chinese students to work in the group.
39. Which of the following can best show the structure of the passage?

Can you imagine an AI chatbot (聊天机器人) competing with you in an examination? Do you think you could get higher marks than it? A new AI chatbot called ChatGPT recently passed the exam in a law school. Don’t you think it is crazy? The use of ChatGPT has got a lot of attention in the education world and there are many discussions about it. Let’s have a look.
If you type (打字) in “A cat wants to go to space” and ask ChatGPT to write a bedtime story. Just one second later, you’ll get the story of Max, who got through many difficulties to sing among the stars.
Developed by US company OpenAI, ChatGPT has taken the Internet by storm. It has won more than 900 million users since it came out in November, 2022. People can ask the robot to write stories and e-mails, translate (翻译) languages, and answer all kinds of questions.
Why is ChatGPT such an excellent robot? Compared with Siri or other chatbots, ChatGPT uses a much bigger database (数据库) for training. It also learns things by itself. For example, if it provides a wrong answer to your question, you can tell it the right one and it will make it right. The knowledge level of ChatGPT is similar to a college student. That’s why it surprised the world.
But one big problem with ChatGPT is that it makes mistakes or even gives wrong information. These are things that need to be done with.

②After doing hundreds of questionnaire surveys, case studies and experiments, they found that students who do well on tests by themselves may also be better at working with other people.

【答案】例文
Learning to get along with parents
Dear teachers and fellow students,
Today my speech topic is “Learning to get along with parents”. In the past, I felt it hard to get along well with my parents. I used to quarrel with them a lot, and even didn’t talk to them for several days. The main reason was that they paid too much attention to my study and always asked me to study hard. I felt stressed and couldn’t understand them.
Later, I realized that I needed to change my attitude. I had a good communication with my parents and told them how I felt. I also tried to understand their expectations and concerns. At the same time, I made a plan for my study and tried to balance my study and life.
Now, I get along well with my parents. We often talk and share our ideas. I also try my best to study hard and make them proud of me. I believe that as long as we understand and respect each other, we can get along well with our parents.
Thank you!
