Millions of years ago, dinosaurs (恐龙) controlled (控制) the earth. And there were different kinds of dinosaurs on the earth. Some of them were no bigger than chickens, while some were about 90 feet long. But all of them had very small brains (大脑). Later on, there weren’t any dinosaurs. What happened to them?
In the days of dinosaurs, the whole earth was warm and wet. There were many green forests. But the earth changed slowly all the time. When parts of the earth became freezing and dry, the forests there died. Then dinosaurs could not find enough food to eat. This must be one reason why dinosaurs died out.
There were also terrible fights between dinosaurs. Though there was no man to see any of the fights, the animal’s footprints could tell us that the fights did happen.
What’s another reason? We can make a guess. New kinds of animals might come to the earth. Some of them had big brains and were fast and strong. They could kill dinosaurs. Some ate dinosaur eggs, too.
There may be other reasons that we do not know about. Each year people will find some dinosaur footprints and bones. Scientists are trying to tell us more about dinosaurs.

Everyone has their own personality traits (性格特点), but you may think some are not good for your growth. 71
Face up to your faults (缺点). 72 Think about it carefully and write down the traits, like the ones that always get you into trouble. You can also ask a friend or a family member for help.
When you are talking with someone who knows you well, ask them what they think your faults are. Other people may help you see yourself more clearly. They can sometimes see some of your faults that you don’t know.
73 There must be someone you look up to in real life. Maybe they are host, writers, doctors or scientists. Try reading stories or watching videos about these people. This can help you find out the personality traits that they have and that you would like to have.
Put your ideas into practice. You can get started after you decide on the traits you want to change. But if you try to change many personality traits at once, you won’t be able to focus on (集中精力于) any of them. 74 To have a good beginning, you can start with easier ones.

At the age of nine, Taylor became interested in country music as soon as she heard it. After that she began to write songs by herself. When she was twelve years old, she learned to play the guitar and then moved to Nashville Tennessee with her parents. In Nashville, Taylor worked with some experienced songwriters and kept writing down what happened in school. Although some of her classmates laughed at her, she didn’t stop writing, and practicing until she became famous. So far, Taylor Swift has sold more than one hundred and eighty million records. She has held more than one hundred concerts and has won more than fifty prizes. She has become one of the most popular singers in the US.
51.Dinosaurs controlled the earth when ________.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Be patient 75 It can take months or years for your new personality traits to really feel like you. But if you practice them long enough, you’ll make it in the end. Keep moving forward and don’t give up!
A.Make sure they are famous.
B.It’s not easy to form a new habit.
C.What personality traits do you admire?
D.Find people whom you want to learn from.

Recently, a survey was done among 20,000 people about the ways of reading. Here is what we have learned from it.
60% of the people like to read on mobile phones or e-readers, while only 38.4% choose to read paper books. So we can know that more and more people prefer to read e-books rather than paper books. However, whatever way of reading we choose, it can help increase our knowledge and open our eyes.
As for me, I am still used to reading paper books. Whenever I open a paper book, the smell of paper reminds me of the stories in the books from my mom when I was a little kid. Just because of this, I got into the habit of reading. So when I read paper books now, they always bring me the old feelings. On the other hand, compared with the electronic devices, reading paper books is good for eyes. So you see, I believe e-books won’t take the place of paper books in my heart.
