When Lauren Schandevel arrived at the University of Michigan for her freshman year, she was struck by how wealthy all her classmates appeared to be.
“Just wealthy in ways that I couldn't even imagine,” Schandevel recalls. Students had fashionable clothes and well-connected and powerful parents.
Schandevel had grown up in the north of Detroit. Her family was working class and she had gotten scholarships and a few loans to make attending the famous state school a reality. When she got to campus, she didn't think much about her status as a low-income student.
Then, during Schandevel's junior year, the university's student government put out a campus affordability guide, written with the average student in mind—but it's worth nothing that the average student at the school has a family income of about $150,000 per year.
The advice didn't go over well with low-income students on campus.“A lot of the advice was like:fire your maid or sell your car.I was frustrated(受挫的) by this guide, and I was seeing others frustrated by it,” says Schandevel.
She decided to make her own affordability guide, and she drafted a Google document and titled it “Being Not-Rich at UM:A Guide”.She added her own ideas—the things that helped her survive and budget. But there was so much she didn't know, so she left the sharing settings open for other students to jump in and edit the online document.
It took off.Hundreds of students started adding their tips about how to navigate college when you are paying your way through college.
Today, Schandevel's crowd-sourced guide stretches more than 100 pages. It includes advice about jobs, housing, teachers and financial aid.Through social media, the Michigan Google document started to make the rounds at other colleges.Students at schools across the country made their own “Not-Rich” guides based on Michigan's version.

We use what is known as inner speech, where we talk to ourselves, to evaluate situations and make decisions. Now, a robot has been trained to speak aloud its inner decision-making process, giving us a view of how it responds to contradictory demands.
Arianna Pipitone and Antonio Chella at the University of Palermo, Italy, programmed a humanoid robot named Pepper, with software that models human cognitive(认知的) processes, which allowed Pepper to retrieve(检索) relevant information from its memory and find the correct way to act based on human commands, as well as a text-to-speech processor. It allowed Pepper to voice its decision-making process while completing a task.“With inner speech, we can better understand what the robot wants to do and what its plan is,” says Chella.
The researchers asked Pepper to set a dinner table according to etiquette(礼仪)rules they had programmed into the robot.Inner speech was either enabled or disabled to see how it affected Pepper's ability to do what was instructed.
When instructed to place a napkin on a fork with its inner speech enabled, Pepper asked itself what the etiquette required and concluded that this request went against the rules it had been given. It then asked the researchers if putting the napkin on the fork was the correct action. When told it was, Pepper said, “OK, I prefer to follow your desire,” and explained how it was going to place the napkin on the fork.
When asked to do the same task with inner speech disabled, Pepper knew this contradicted etiquette rules, so it didn't perform the task or explain why.
“With the potential for robots to become more common in the future, this type of programming could help the public understand their abilities and limitations,” says Sarah Sebo at the University of Chicago.“It maintains people's trust and enables cooperation and interactions between humans and robots. However, this experiment only used a single human participant. It's unclear how their approach would compare across a wide range of human participants.”

Let's be real, we all have a special place in our heart for the home (or homes) we grew up in.
Think of the place where you learned to ride your first bike or the door frame where your parents tracked your heights. But would that nostalgia be enough for you to drop half a million to buy back the house? If you're author J.K.Rowling, and your childhood home inspired certain parts of what would become one of the most well known fiction series to ever exist, it's worth considering.
As it turns out, Harry Potter' author J.K.Rowling owns her childhood home, Church Cottage at Tutshill in Chepstow, according to Daily Mail.Rowling had quietly bought it back in 2011 for £400,000.
Now, the secret is out, as this week, Rowling and her husband commissioned major renovation projects for it, after years of no activity. The district council has granted the couple planning permission to install two rear dormer windows and knock down and rebuild the garage.
But let's talk about that magic that is Church Cottage already.Rowling lived here from ages 9 to 18.The home includes a cupboard under the stairs (sound familiar?), which is believed to have been the inspiration for Harry's room at the Dursley family's house. There is also a trap door in the cottage's dining room, similar to the one Fluffy guards in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Also, the property is near the Forest of Dean, where a large part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows takes place.
Over the years, some wise fans were able to connect the dots leading to the home, often trying to visit it.“For years, every time a book or a film came out, there were always members of the public asking to come in to see the house,” Julian Mercer, the home's former owner, told BBC back in 2011.“That's been happening ever since the book came out.But we haven't let them in.”
Now that the secret's out that the home is back in Rowling's hands, those uninvited fans might be knocking on the door a little more frequently.Although her exact renovation plans may still be a mystery, we sure hope she turns it into a museum for the book.

Ⅵ.读后续写
I always thought becoming a grandmother would be a good experience. When my only child, David, and his girlfriend, Line, got married, both were in their early thirties. They weren't in any hurry to have a baby, so I simply accepted that no new branch would grow on my family tree.It didn't matter to me as long as they were happy.
One morning in early December, my husband and I woke up because of a loud knock at our bedroom door, followed by my son's voice urging(催促) us to get up.
We jumped out of bed and thought that something bad may have happened.
“What's wrong?” I asked.
“Nothing,” David said to me. “I wanted to give you an early Christmas present,” he said excitedly.
“But we agreed not to exchange gifts this year,” I said. “And we…”
“Mom, please listen to me.You will become a grandmother.” he interrupted(打断) me.
I was happy and rushed up to hug and congratulate my son.I was excited but I knew I was not so enthusiastic compared to most people.Even my husband was doing a victory dance across the living room floor.
I spent the next few months saying and doing what was expected of a grandmother-to-be.I was worried about Line's health and asked her about the result of every checkup.I helped plan a baby shower.I chose names back and forth until we were all satisfied.I also enjoyed selecting other things for a baby and a mother-to-be.
Finally, Kara, my granddaughter, made her appearance two weeks early, so we had to wait until the next day to see her.Meanwhile, Line mentioned a backache several times that day.I whispered to my son that he should keep an eye on her.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
One possible version:
The next morning, when we arrived, David was holding Kara. Before I could speak, David placed Kara into my arms. Then he went to take care of Line.I looked carefully at the tiny little baby.I touched each of her fingers carefully so as not to wake her up.As I did so, she took hold of my finger, opened her eyes and looked at me.As a grandmother, all I wanted then was to hold the precious child in my arms forever.
From then on, I felt very happy at every moment I spent with Kara.My husband was also happy when staying with her.Kara was the best present for the whole family.I often patiently took care of her and fed her.I refused to go out to have fun with my friends and to go travelling with them. What I wanted to do was enjoy the happiness with Kara at that time.I was grateful for the little child's coming into my life.
