Ⅰ.阅读
If you really want a taste of Dutch life, a bike tour through Amsterdam is the way to go.
What is included in an Amsterdam bike tour
The bicycle is of course provided and included in the price of the tour. Some tours offer coffee and tea after the tour finishes.Every tour especially has its own theme and route. You can compare them by visiting webpages about a particular tour.
Amsterdam bicycle tour basics
These tours are usually between one and two hours long. They are guided by friendly and knowledgeable tour guides who are well capable in human interactions and Amsterdam information. What's more, the tour guides usually know many languages and are used to dealing with communication barriers.
If it rains, no worries, you can choose to cancel your tour free of charge. This applies of course also in case of (万一) other bad weather or in case you simply don't feel like taking the tour. The cancellation is easy, without question, and free.
Important during the bicycle tour of Amsterdam
Please don't become so Dutch that you disregard the traffic laws.It is a fact that some Amsterdammers often cross a street or a bridge when they feel like doing it.That is why staying alert(警惕的) and a little bit of biking experience can help you to cross the small city streets during an Amsterdam bike tour. Also, unless you are 100% sure that the weather will be plenty sunny, you'd better bring a jacket. When you start moving on the bike, the Amsterdam's air can get quite cold.

The year 2023 marks the 102th anniversary of Noether's ring theory, a branch of theoretical mathematics that is still fascinating and challenging numerous mathematicians today.
Noether was born in 1882 in Germany, whose father was a math professor, but it must have seemed unlikely to a young Noether that she would follow in his footsteps because women were banned from academia and few took classes at universities. After Noether graduated from a high school for girls, Erlangen University started to let women enroll. She signed up and earned her doctorate in mathematics, which should have been the end of her mathematical journey.Teaching at a university for women was still out of the question. But Noether stuck with mathematics anyway, staying in Erlangen and unofficially guiding doctoral students without pay.
In 1915, she applied for a position at the University of Göttingen.Bill Nicholl, the dean at the university, also a mathematician, was in favor of hiring Noether, although his argument was far from feminist(女权主义).“The female brain is unsuitable for mathematical production,” he wrote, “but Noether stood out as one of the rare exceptions.”
Unfortunately for Noether, the Ministry of Education would not give the university permission to have a woman as their teacher.Noether stayed in Göttingen and taught courses listed under the name of a male faculty teacher.During those years, she kept doing research and made important contributions to theoretical physics and Einstein's theory of relativity. The university finally granted her lecturer status. Two years later, Noether published revolutionary discoveries in ring theory, which is the study of mathematical objects called rings.Noetherian rings show up all the time in modern mathematics.Mathematicians still use Noether's map today, not just in ring theory, but in other area such as number theory and algebraic geometry.

Since I was born and brought up in a rural town, I have a great interest in nature.Using the chance of studying abroad in my second year at college, I decided to go to Canada just because I wanted to see the beautiful phenomena there. So after I finished the study program, I went to Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories.
I clearly remember the sixth night in Yellowknife.Suddenly my host mother came to my room around 8:00 p.m.and told me to change clothes and go outside quickly carrying her camera.
The northern lights were flickering(闪烁) in the sky!I was shocked and just stood there with my mouth open.I forgot to take pictures of the mysterious lights.
Since that night, whenever it was sunny, I went outside at night and looked at the sky.It was so cold that I lost all feeling in my hands and feet.
As I took pictures of the northern lights, I came to find a characteristic movement of the lights. They first appear in the north part of the sky and then they gradually come down to the south part of the sky. After that, suddenly, they come in the middle of the north and south only for a while, which is the time when the best northern lights can be seen.Since it is only a few seconds for the northern lights to come down to the middle of the sky, it is very hard to get good pictures.
The stronger the sun acts, the better and stronger the northern lights flicker in the sky. That's because they come about from the collisions(碰撞) between atmospheric gases and the solar wind.Much more solar wind comes to the earth when the sun is active, which leads to the best northern lights. And the colors of the northern lights depend on the height of the collisions and the kinds of gases.

Besides the excitement of travel, one reason to study abroad is that you will experience new customs, holidays, foods, art music and politics firsthand.
“I learned the language and am now fluent, but perhaps more important was how much I learned about cultures, people and myself.I learned this from the viewpoint of an active member of the community and my host family, not from the tourists' point of view,” said Andrew, who studied in Poitiers, France.
Another reason for studying abroad is that you'll gain self-confidence.Christina studied in Caracas, Venezuela, a city of 10 million people and a huge change from her hometown of 35,000!Christina says she learned how to better stand up for herself and her beliefs and to express herself in another language. What could make you more confident than that?
Living away from home can also help you adjust in the transition(过渡) to college and adulthood.Matthew says he returned from studying in Australia with confidence and a real interest in international affairs that really set him apart from his peers. “After having gone abroad in high school, I found the transition to college to be a breeze—moving 560 miles from home didn't seem particularly frightening after having lived thousands of miles away.”
And speaking of college, improving your language skills might help you get into dream colleges and even land future jobs.Colleges and employers know that studying abroad provides leadership skills in a world that is increasingly globally interconnected.
Most of all, it's fun! You're not likely to suffer from general boredom while you're studying in a different learning environment.

More than the challenge of fitting into a new culture, there are many benefits that a student can get with an exchange program. These benefits include:
Diverse academic opportunities. It's not actually the travel that students would love to study abroad. 1 Instead, it will be an offering of diverse opportunities for the student. For example, the student will be able to experience the differences of teaching methods, educational formats and academic program offerings.
2 Studying in another country opens the student to different surroundings, which makes the student know about the country's customs, people and regions. Knowing other culture also teaches the student how to be open-minded.
Personality development. 3 Thus, the student needs to make decisions on his or her own and suffer the consequences or enjoy the fruits of that decision. With this, the student is taught how real life is, what it means to be responsible, and how being resourceful can help in his or her survival. It's no wonder that most students who returned after the exchange program were seen with significant improvement on their personal development. 4

B.Better awareness of cultural differences.
C.More importantly, it is helpful for the improvement of the society.

1.答案 as
此处two ginkgo trees与plant为逻辑上的动宾关系,应用被动语态;在when, while, if, as if, though(或although), as, until, once, whether, unless, where等连接的状语从句中,常省略跟主句相同的主语和从句中的be动词。此处省略two ginkgo trees were后,保留过去分词planted。
4.答案 while/when
the fruits are still fresh是时间状语从句,用从属连词while或when引导该从句,表示“当……的时候”。
5.答案 to remove

As a child, I clearly remember watching the PBS cartoon character Arthur get glasses. The poor guy felt ashamed and was laughed at by other kids due to his glasses. So I was thankful that I had good eyesight.
However, when I entered the eighth grade, I could no longer see very clearly the writing on the blackboard.Luckily, I was usually seated in the front of the classroom, and my study was not affected. So I didn't turn to glasses.
During my first year in high school, my eyesight became poorer. My eyes were examined, and the doctor determined that my eyesight was quite bad.I would either have to wear glasses full time, or try contact lenses(隐形眼镜).Since I had watched the cartoon character Arthur before, I was afraid to be judged by others due to my glasses—it made me believe the glasses would affect a person's beauty. And being a teenage girl, I cared much about my self-image.Besides, at that time, there were few students around me wearing glasses. So I chose to wear contact lenses.I felt they would not affect my appearance. On the contrary, they would make me more attractive. And after wearing contact lenses, my entire world was transformed.Trees actually had leaves.People around me showed clear expressions.I was overjoyed at my new-found sight and appearance, and I had more self-confidence.
But when my junior year came along, I began to have trouble with my eyes.Once in a while, the contact lenses would irritate(刺激) my eyes, almost to the point where the pain was unbearable. It would take me thirty minutes just to get the lenses in comfortably every day, which made me so upset. With time going by, the pain only got worse.
In spite of endless visits to the hospital, my doctor found nothing wrong with my eyes.He tried countless medications to ease my pain. However, none of them worked, and there was nothing left to try.
One possible version:
He suggested that I wear my glasses full-time.I was upset but had to quit contact lenses. However, whenever someone walked up to me, I would immediately take off my glasses.I thought I would become ugly if I put on my glasses. My self-confidence decreased a lot and I hated the way I looked. So, I wore my glasses as little as possible. But it severely affected my life and study.Eventually, I came to terms with the fact that I had to wear glasses full-time.
Later in my summer camp, I met a very outgoing girl who also wore glasses. We both volunteered in the camp. She was kind, spiritual, fun and intelligent. She didn't let wearing glasses get in the way of her outer and inner beauty. At the end of the camp, we both were considered the prettiest girls due to our volunteering. All of these made me realize that actually others didn't judge me by my glasses. It was I who allowed my glasses to hold myself back from being confident and happy.
