In the rush of day-to-day life, we don’t always have the time to slow down and move at our own speed. Even on vacation, we always try to visit, do and taste as many things as possible in a new place or many places.
“I’ve heard countless times how tired people are when they come back from their vacation and feel like they ‘need a vacation from their vacation,’ and that’s because many times we pack so much into a very short time,” said travel blogger Esther Susag. “We want to see everything, do everything, and not waste a minute.
There is, however, another method that many experienced travelers suggest: slow travel. But what exactly is slow travel, and how do you take full advantage of this kind of trip? Below ,travel experts break it down.
As the name suggests, slow travel generally needs travelers to slow down and enjoy each moment, rather than rushing to check off the list items. “Slow travel may mean different things to different travelers, but I define (定义) it as staying in one place for longer and going deeper into the local culture,” said Paul Jacobs, general manager and vice president of Kayak North America. “It’s taking the time to make real connections with locals instead of packing a schedule full of tours.”
For travel expert and author La Carmina, slow travel allows people to stop and smell the roses-quite directly. “It’s about being fully present in the moment and experiencing the sights, sounds and sensations (感觉) around you completely “letting the experience develop at its own speed and without expectations,” she said. “To me, slow travel doesn’t have a strict definition or certain things to do, but rather focuses on the feeling of being a visitor to a place.”
Slow travel is becoming more and more popular now, because it can do good to us in many ways.
4. Why are people tired when they return from their vacation?
A. They have no place to rest.
B. They are on a busy schedule when traveling.
C. They travel to some places far away.
D. They feel quite excited and enjoy their trip fully.
5. What does La Carmina think of slow travel?
A. It can let travelers experience the place deeply.
B. It can make travelers save a lot of money.
C. It can allow travelers to explore more places.
D. It can save travelers much more time.
6. What might the author continue talking about?
A. Other ways of travel.
B. The definition of slow travel.
C. The proper places for slow travel.
D. The advantages of slow travel.
7. In which part of a newspaper can you probably read the text?
A. Life. B. Society. C. Sports. D. Education.
C
In a classroom in rural Kenya’s Rift Valley, a student, Priscilla Sitienei, takes notes alongside her fellow classmates. She wears the same school uniform. However, there is something different.
Sitienei is more than 80 years older than them. February 11 was Sitienei’s ninety-ninth birthday. “The main reason for my returning to school was that I would like to become a doctor because I used to be a midwife (助产士),” she said. She added that her children supported her decision.
Back in 2003, the government of the East African country began helping to pay for the cost of primary schooling. This has allowed some older members of society, who had missed out on education in their younger days, to go back to school.
This has given Sitienei more than an education. She has become a film star. Sitienei travelled to Paris last year for the launch (发布) of a film about her journey. It is titled Gogo, which means grandmother in her native Kalenjin language. She will also be heading to New York City soon for a showing of the film there.
Sitienei is in her sixth year of primary school. She said her aims were far more practical than becoming a movie star. She said, “I also enjoy school activities, including physical education classes. They keep me fit. I get to jump around, even though not as much as they do, but I at least move my body. That is my joy.”
Sitienei shares her wide experience and knowledge with the children. Her teachers also use her experience to keep the peace during lessons. Her class teacher Leonida Talaam, said, “I use Sitienei to help control the class. And it works! When I go outside, the class remains silent.”
8. What does Sitienei mainly intend to do by going to school?
A. Take up a new career. B. Make herself popular.
C. Have more classmates. D. Return to society.
9. Why did Sitienei go to Paris last year?
A. She wanted to meet her grandma. B. She wanted to learn the native language.
C. Her movie would come out there. D. Her new journey plan was to be announced.
10. Which of the following best describes Sitienei?
A. Dependent. B. Creative. C. Honest. D. Energetic.
11. What does Sitienei help her teachers do?
A. Keep order in class. B. Organize school activities.
C. Stop the students going out. D. Inspire the students to work out.
D
If you visit Uluwatu temple in Bali, be cautious. The long-tailed temple monkeys there are well-known thieves. Since a long time ago, they have made a living by robbing visitors of their possessions and then holding those objects until a ransom in the form of food is paid. But Jean-Baptiste Leca of the University of Lethbridge, in Canada, wondered whether these monkeys are cleverer still. Sometimes, they do not accept the first offer and hold out for more. He therefore asked himself whether they are able to assess how valuable an object is to its owner, and factor that into their negotiations.
Dr. Leca and his colleagues conducted their experiment by wandering around the temple with video cameras, recording the activities of the monkeys. Every time they saw a monkey show interest in a particular tourist, they recorded the interaction. To work out what was going on, they had first to establish the relative values of food rewards to monkeys, and of stealable objects to people.
To confirm which stealable objects are most valued by people, they divided them into six classes: empty containers, such as phone cases and plastic bottles; accessories (搭配物) such as hairpins and key rings; hats and shoes; spectacles and sunglasses; and electronics and wallets. They then observed how often victims bothered to bargain with the thief for the return of property belonging to different classes, and thus classified objects into low value, medium value and high value.
They found that monkeys do, indeed, have a complicated sense of what they are doing — at least, adults and sub-adults do. These animals have a preference for stealing high-value items, and will often hold out either for more rewards, or for better ones, if they are in possession of such items. But this is something that they have to learn how to do as they grow up. Young monkeys make no such distinctions, and sub-adults are less good at doing so than adults.
12. What is the purpose of Leca's research?
A. To prove monkeys are cleverer than men.
B. To find out what is valuable for monkeys.
C. To record the negotiations between monkeys.
D. To make sure monkeys can judge item values.
13. What does the underlined word "ransom" in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Bill. B. Reward.
C. Tax. D. Rent.
14. How are the values of objects classified in Paragraph 3?
A. By the material of objects. B. By the preference of victims.
C. By the frequency of bargaining. D. By the buying price of objects.
15. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Monkeys' stealing is an acquired skill.
B. All monkeys prefer high-value items.
C. Monkeys have a simple sense of acts.
D. Young monkeys can evaluate items.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was my tenth birthday—double digits—which would be a big day for me, and I would have the biggest party ever. The guest list, which I kept at the back of my homework assignment folder, began with a few close friends. But in the two weeks before that special Friday night, it had quickly grown from seven girls to a large total of seventeen. Nearly every girl in my fifth-grade class had been invited to sleep over at my house for a big celebration. I was especially happy when each guest I invited excitedly accepted the invitation. I couldn’t wait! It would be a night of scary stories, funny games, pizza and lots of presents, which would be a happy paradise (天堂) for kids. Who could resist it?
But as I later realized, I would truly treasure only one gift I received that night.
The big night finally came. Every friend invited came to my house on time. We kept dancing, singing, talking loudly and playing all pop games. As you could imagine, my family room was full of crazy shouts and bursts of laughter. We had just finished a game of Twister and were lining up for the limbo (林波舞)when the doorbell rang suddenly. I hardly paid attention to who might be at the door. What did it matter? Who cared? Everyone I liked from school was there, in my family room, preparing for the game —to lean under the stick held by my two sisters.
“Judy, come here for a minute,” Mom answered the door and called loudly from the front door.
I hated to be interrupted. I rolled my eyes and shrugged to my friends as if to say, “Now who would dare bother me at a time like this?” What I really wanted to say was, “It’s tough being popular!”
注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡相应位置作答。

I ran to the front door, wondering who it was, and then I stopped.

第二节(满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】Paragraph 1:
I ran to the front door, wondering who it was, and then I stopped. My mouth dropped open and I felt my face turning red. There stood Sarah, the quiet girl who sat next to me in music class. She was holding a gift, “Happy birthday!” I asked myself in silence, “How had I forgotten to invite Sarah?” I remembered that I only added a name to the list when someone had shown an interest in me. But Sarah had never done that. Never once had she asked me about my birthday party.
Paragraph 2:
I slowly accepted the gift from Sarah. I asked her to join the party. “I can’t stay,” she said. “My dad’s waiting in the car.” I nearly begged for her stay. “Thanks, but I have to go,” she said, turning toward the door. “See you on Monday.” I stood there with an empty feeling in my heart. Holding Sarah’s gift in my hands, I thought it was the best gift I had received, for it was given by an unconditional friend who stood by me, always encouraging and understanding me.
