Going back to campus every September can be stressful for most students. However, some universities in China manage to make this process easier.
Hebei University
Teachers from the university recently held a treasure hunt challenge to lighten up the atmosphere of getting back to campus for students. Teachers hid coupons (奖券) in surprising places around the campus, such as the top of bookshelves or the bottom of basketball hoops. Students who managed to collect the coupons were rewarded with gifts, including books and stuffed toys.
Zhejiang University
Has carrying your suitcases up and down in your dorm building been a headache? Zhejiang University has come up with some interesting methods to solve this problem. They use a scaling ladder to lift luggage from the first floor. Instead of sweating buckets, students can sit in their dorms and wait for the suitcases to be transported to them.
Chengdu University
Getting along with roommates can be tricky when everyone has different habits and personalities. Chengdu University offers a “roommate-selection system” based on big data. After students fill out the questionnaire, including questions about their hobbies and sleeping habits, their roommates will be automatically assigned (分配) by the system based on their preferences. This way, students have more control over who they share their room with.
With considerate teachers and a personalized atmosphere, students will be more ready for the upcoming semester.
1.Why do the universities listed above take the pleasurable actions?
A.To increase their popularity. B.To reduce the students’ tiredness.
C.To help students find good friends. D.To make returning to campus easier.
2.What measure did Hebei University take for the semester?
A.Lightening up the campus. B.Carrying luggage for students.
C.Making students hunt for gifts. D.Rewarding students with books.
3.How does Chengdu University assign rooms?

A middle school teacher says, “Math is a language, and language is important in the study of math.” Finally, someone gets it. While high school students are afraid of learning Euler’s Theorem and reading Shakespeare, math and English have long been ranked as the most valuable subjects to learn. However, both of these subjects have long been ranked as the least favorite subjects of high school students.
There is a strong support for teaching our youth “critical thinking and communication”. And what are the subjects that most effectively teach these skills? Math and English. By traditional definition, math would teach you critical thinking, and English would teach you communication. But today, I’d like to argue that English can teach you critical thinking, and that math can teach you communication.
When we think of math as a language, we see that math is an expression of communication. If a person in China writes a letter in Chinese to a person in the USA, it is almost sure that the American will not be able to read it. But if, instead, he sends a simple mathematical equation with its solution, it is almost certain that the American will be able to most probably “read” it. That’s communication! That’s using numbers to replace ideas.
And English can provide critical thinking skills. For example, we can look at the alphabet and our system of grammar. We assemble (集合) the letters in different ways to express our thoughts and ideas. This process requires a lot of critical thinking; in order to solve the problem of the world around us, we must arrange and understand the constants (常量) around us to create a thousand different definitions of our reality.
Math is a language, and language is a math. It’s just seeing this truth that may be the tricky part.
4.What do you think is Euler?
A.A musician. B.An artist. C.A writer. D.A mathematician.
5.What can be inferred from Paragraph 2?
A.The traditional idea about math and English is challenged.
B.It is traditionally believed that math can teach us critical thinking.
C.The author doesn’t agree that English can teach us communication.
D.Math and English can most effectively teach critical thinking.
6.How is Paragraph 3 developed?
A.By describing a process. B.By giving examples.
C.By analyzing causes. D.By offering explanations.
7.Where is this text most likely from?
A.A science paper. B.A medical report.
C.A language website. D.An education magazine.

I felt anxious when going into my room from school. Every day, my room was something different. The hours away at school were long enough to cause a terrible change to my peaceful harbor. Today was no exception.
As I entered the house, Mom greeted me with a smile. It seemed like nothing was wrong. But I was still doubtful about it. Yesterday, around the mouth of my favorite figurine (小雕像) was a chocolate cookie. Obviously, Callie had enjoyed the cookie so much that she wanted to share it with my angel.
I looked around for Callie, who had just turned three. I didn’t see her, but I heard the TV blaring (发出声音) in the other room. As I examined the family room, I noticed it was pretty messy. There were toys all over the floor, but none of them seemed to be mine. Maybe she hadn't entered today. I was so hopeful that I breathed a sigh of relief.
I pushed my room door open and saw damage! There were a few headless dolls, some broken blocks, and a few juice-stained stuffed animals. “She did it again!” I screamed in anger. My mother ran up to me, embarrassed. She promised to put a Callie-proof lock on my door tonight. I felt better, because I knew that soon my room would truly belong to me. However, I was still angry with my little sister so I went into the family room to tell her how she had made life unpleasant for me. “Callie... ” I started. “Hooray!” she shouted.
She leaped off the sofa and hugged my knees with such happiness that I could only look down at her and smile. After all, she was only three and learning about the world in her own way. And she always chose to explore and destroy my room because she loved me, her big sister.

A.She was friendly to her sister.
B.She was angry with her sister.
C.She refused to accept her sister’s apology.
D.She thought her sister had done nothing wrong.
11.What finally helped the writer feel good again?
A.Her sister’s honesty. B.The promise to her sister.
C.The love between sisters. D.Her sister’s younger age.

After a serious earthquake happened, a father left his wife safe at home and rushed to his son’s school, only to find that the building where his son studied had collapsed and looked like a pancake.
He was shocked. He didn’t know what he should do for a while, and then he remembered the words he had said to his son, “No matter what happens. I’ll always be there for you!” And tears began to fill his eyes. He started digging through the ruins.
As he was digging, other helpless parents and the firemen arrived and tried to pull him off the ruins, saying, “It’s too late! They’re all dead! There’s nothing you can do!” To them he replied with one line, “Are you going to help me now?” And then he kept on digging.
No one helped. However, he went on alone because he needed to know himself, “Is my boy alive or dead?” He dug for 8 hours... 12 hours... 24 hours... 36 hours... Then, in the 39th hour, he pulled away a rock and heard his son’s words. He shouted his son’s name, “Armand!” He heard back, “Dad?! It’s me, Dad! I told the other kids not to worry. I told them that if you were alive, you’d save me and when you saved me, they’d be saved. You promised, ‘No matter what happens, I’ll always be there for you!’ You did it, Dad!”
“What’s going on there? How is it?” the father asked. “There are 14 of us left out of 33, Dad. We’re frightened, hungry, thirsty and thankful you’re here. When the building fell down, it made a triangle, and it saved us.”
“Come out, boy!”
“No, Dad. Let the other kids out first, because I know you’ll get me! No matter what happens, I know you’ll always be there for me!”
12.Who came to help the father when he was digging?
A.His wife. B.Other parents. C.The firemen. D.No one.
13.Why did other parents and the firemen want to pull him off the ruins?
A.Because they thought he was mad.

C.Because they thought he was too dangerous to others.
D.Because they thought it was not his job to dig.
14.How many students were still alive when the father found them in the ruins?
A.Fourteen. B.Thirty-three. C.Forty-seven. D.Nineteen.
15.What can we learn from the passage?

Dear Locke,
I'm Li Hua, a senior three student. Knowing that you are a helpful psychologist, I'm writing to consult you about some problems I have come across, hoping to get help from you.
There are quite a few headaches flooding to my mind. What annoys me most is that whenever I felt hungry, I would eat snacks like chips or candies without normal meals. Apart from this, I'm easily satisfied with what I am and what l have done, I read books only for school. I always hesitate to work out, keeping myself indoors. All the above have made me suffer a lot. I am wondering if you could recommend some effective methods of getting out of the habit to me.
I would be grateful if you can give me some positive response.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
