Greet students and ask about their daily routines. 2. Ask students to talk about their favourite subjects and why. Step 2 Work on la 1. Introduce the topic of learning from different subjects. 2. Display a sample class timetable and explain how to fill it out. 3. Ask students to write down their own class timetable for today in 1a. Step 3 Work on 1b 1. Reading Material Introduction: Explain that students will be reading a message board with two posts, one from Mike Davis in Canada and another from Wu Binbin in China. They will learn about the subjects each student studies and their favourite subjects. 2. Language Points: Highlight new vocabulary such as“ schedule”“ favourite subject”“ make sb. happy”“ work out”“ useful” etc. Explain the structure and function of“I want to be...” to express future aspirations. Point out the use of“ because” to give reasons for preferences. 3. Reading Activity: Ask students to read the message board about Mike and Wu Binbin's favourite subjects in1b. Ask students to underline all the school subjects mentioned by each student. Guide students to notice the differences and similarities in the subjects studied by the two students. Step 4 Work on 1c 1. Discussion and Completion of Table: Discuss with students the reasons why Mike and Wu Binbin like their favourite subjects. 2. Ask students to read the posts again and complete the table in 1c with favourite subject, and reason. Encourage students to use the language points they have learned to fill out the table. 3. Check the answers. The answers are: Mike Davis: music—— The class is fun and he can learn a lot of new songs. Wu Binbin: maths—— He's good with numbers. Step 5 Work on 1d Ask students to work in pairs and discuss the questions in 1d. Encourage students to share their answers with the class. Step 6 Work on 2a 1. Explain the concept of mind map and its use in organizing ideas. 2. Ask students to complete the mind map in 2a with their own information about their favou- rite subjects and reasons. Step 7 Work on 2b 1. Guide students to write a message using their information from the mind map. 2. Invite students to post their messages on the board and share with the class. Step 8 Summary and Homework Summarize the key points of the lesson.
