Why is setting goals important? Because goals can help you do, be and experience everything you want in life. Instead of just letting life happen to you, goals allow you to make your life happen.
Successful people 45 how their life should be and set lots of goals. By setting goals you are taking control of your life. It’s like having a map to show you where you want to go. Think of it in this way. There are two drivers. One has a destination in mind (her goal) which can be found on a map. She can drive straight there without any 46 time or wrong turns. The other driver has no goal or destination or map. She starts off at the same time from the same place as the first driver, but she drivers aimlessly around, never getting anywhere, just using up gas. Which driver do you want to be?
Winners in life set goals and follow through on them. They decide what they want in life and then get there by making plans and setting goals. 47 people just let life happen by accident. Goals aren’t difficult to set — and they aren’t difficult to reach. It’s up to you to find out what your goals really are. You are the one who must 48 what to achieve and in what direction to aim your life.
Research tells us that when we write a goal down, we are more likely to achieve it. Written goals can be 49 regularly, and have more power. Like a contract (合同) with yourself, they are harder to neglect or forget. Also, when you write your goals in a particular way you are able to make yourself continuously 50 situations that will bring you nearer to your goal.

Over the years, I had lost count of how many times I had dreamed of achieving something, only to find that the world had other plans. I h 56 this for a long time. It was not until I became a football commentator (评论员) that I finally r 57 that maybe the world’s plans for me were better than my own.

Born to Be a Fashion Designer
Who started the world-famous fashion house Gucci? This may be a difficult question for you to answer. Most kids know little about Guccio Gucci (古驰奥·古驰), but seven-year-old Max Alexander has dreamed of becoming as great a designer as he was.
Max was only four when he said he wanted to be a fashion designer. His parents were confused. They had never seen him make a dress before. The boy said that was because he didn’t have a model—if they got him one, he’d make a dress.
Max’s mother, Madison, is an artist. She make her son a cardboard model of the human body. Max then pinned various materials to it to make his first dress. He asked his mom to teach him how to sew (缝纫). And in just a few weeks, the boy could sew better and faster than his mom. Max has learned almost everything else about dressmaking on his own. One of his dresses can now sell for $1,200. With the money he makes, he buys more material for dressmaking.
It takes Max about a week to design and make a dress. He knows it’s finished when it “looked good”. The boy wants women of all sizes to feel beautiful and happy. He never makes menswear. Hundreds of people around the world have asked Max to make dresses for them. The boy decides for himself which task to take on. Sometimes, someone like his friend Sydney wins out over a famous person. Max’s dream is to be the head of Gucci or start his own fashion house. And if you want to get into dressmaking like him, he has a tip: Don’t be afraid to try. Remember that __________________.
